I've heard of floating before but never had a chance to do it 'til last month. I was hesitant at first, thinking I might get claustrophobic inside the tank. The owner, Ben, explained how it works, gave me advice to use the earplugs and the head rest for a better float. When you first get in, it's a bit challenging but once you get the hang of it, it's very relaxing. Give it a couple of tries before making the decision that it's not for you. First Float experience. Full transparency...it was intimidating to walk into this pitch black steel chamber that looked like a morgue door, I was expecting to see a cute, state of the art white pod. Since this was my first float experience, that is what I expected and I had no comparisons. This was my experience... I wish I remembered his name- Bill (maybe?) He was a customer who ended up buying the lounge was very welcoming and informative. You can tell he really enjoyed and believed in the therapeutic aspects of floating. He explained everything in detail...took about 10 minutes to set me up for a successful float. I had my own locked private lounge which consisted of a shower, changing area and float chamber. I was impressed with the cleanliness and appreciated the provided towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and two different kinds of ear plugs. After entering the chamber of darkness and began floating, I did not feel claustrophobic at all, which was my concern. I think it helped knowing I was in a 7ft by 8ft chamber instead of the pod I initially expected. I floated for 60 minutes. It was like a scheduled nap without the guilt of doing anything. My only job was to just relax and be present in this moment. After the awkwardness of this new experience and being able to be completely still, I stopped feeling the water and air. It felt like my consciousness was suspended in a cloud. Only when I purposely moved was when I felt my body again. Surprisingly, I fell asleep and even more surprisingly, I learned I snore because my snoring woke myself up. Embarrassingly, my snoring was the only thing in that chamber with me. I wasn't quite sure what I thought of my first float experience. However, it wasn't until I went about the rest of my day that I started feeling the benefits of my float. I felt very chill, relaxed and centered, I had a sense of zen with me for a few days. Because of how I felt after, I am definitely going to return. Oh man. I hate to have to do this but my previously held 5 star review has to go down to a 2 star. In the last six months, I have become disturbed by the increasingly obvious lack of sanitation and cleanliness. The tanks don't seem to be auto-sanitized after each session like they used to because the red light indicating it is self cleaning never turns on anymore while showering. This has happened my last few sessions, which had started to alarm me. I figured maybe it gets cleaned once I leave the lounge before the next customer, but even that, I am not so sure. The water quality inside the tank has started to feel slimier and murkier. I tried to overcome it the few sessions when I started to notice it by trying not to overthink about it, but after I noticed how filthy the floor was with what looked like it hadn't been swept or mopped in months (see photo), I am now also positive the rooms, floors, and showers no longer get cleaned after each use. I can no longer with any peace of mind patronize this business until its cleaning and sanitation standards improve. It seems as though management really just let the place go and it is such a shame as I really loved and enjoyed this float lounge. read more

Last time I came here which was 2018, the facilities were very clean and relaxing and had a great experience as a first time floater. Unfortunately when I came back very recently, everything definitely had a more worn down look and made me question if this place was sanitary. I was in room 1 and immediately noticed a mildew smell which almost made me want to reconsider even getting into the tank, which, was another thing. The water was ... Not an appealing color. It was kind of a yellowish brown. That's not what a floating tank water color is supposed to look like right?? I know they just put Epsom salt in there which should not give off that kind of color over time....I could see mold and salt deposits in the corners of the room and the shower gel in the shower was super watered down!! I felt kinda gross just using the shower gel let alone the tank. The feeling of uncleanliness and the smell definitely made it hard for me to relax and get into a meditative state. By the time I was starting to feel more relaxed and into a sleepy calm state, time was up! I don't get what happened to this place.... Was it COVID? Apathy? Definitely a bummer. This business is meant to create a beautiful and calming atmosphere where the customers come in to unplug and rejuvenate themselves. First of all I would like to mention the staff.... So friendly, so unbelievably helpful especially to a newcomer. Made me feel completely comfortable and at ease. Secondly, if you've never done this... Highly recommend. I really enjoyed it, very relaxing and a wonderful way to be in tune with yourself, your thoughts in complete darkness, complete silence... Away from all the chatter and noise, especially away from your phone! The only tip I have is if you get a itch on your face and you need to scratch make sure you grab the little towel that's tied on the handle inside of your tank and dry was hand first. I made a big mistake of scratching my nose and I got just a drop of water in my nostril which burned pretty bad. Luckily that towel was there and I was able to wipe my nose on it. Remember there's a lot of salt in that water so you don't want to get that in your eyes, mouth or face. GREAT EXPERIENCE read more

I will open by saying that the staff are very kind and that I have been doing float therapy at another location for over a year and so I'm not unfamiliar with float tanks or what the experience should be like. When walking in I immediately noticed the use of brown/beige old towels instead of the usual white towels for hospitality. Small detail but you generally offer white towels so it's visible that they're clean. When walking into room 1 I noticed immediately an off-putting pungent mold/mildew smell. The floor in front of the float tank had a towel already on the floor presumably because it's not tiled/waterproofed to protect the laminate floor. Now the tank itself is nothing like I've seen before. Other locations have built in lights, sound and bars for safety so that you can lift yourself back up. This looked more like a steel tank that somebody retrofitted with vinyl/plastic lining. There was visible mold growing in the tanks door crevices and the entire inside also smelled off-putting. Unfortunately do not recommend due to cleanliness and the disparity in quality to other locations in Socal for the same or less money. read more

I had my first float at Awaken Float Lounge on Friday and I wanted to wait a few days to write this review to really analyze my experience. My appointment was at 10:30 and I arrived about 15 minutes prior as instructed. I was greeted by a very friendly gentleman who asked me if I had floated before to which I replied I hadn't. He took the time to explain the experience to me which I appreciated. Everything I learned about floating I read Awaken's website and reviews from my fellow Yelpers. My experience: I stripped naked and washed all of the annoyances of the outside world off my body. Then I climbed into the dark tank and closed the door. I laid down in the dense liquid that was to be my conscience for the next hour. It took me a short time to orient my body, but I just let the water dictate how and where my body would lay. The silence for me was a bit defining. After a while I dozed off to the sound of my own breathing and heart rate which slowed down to an almost untraceable level. After dozing off 3 times I began to hear, or thought I heard music, which was the sign that my journey into my own mind was at an end. So I opened the door to the dimly lit world outside with soft music playing. My body shimmering from the salt that had stuck to my body like a piece of bacon being cured. I quickly showered, dressed, and opened the door to the outside world. I had a brief discussion with the gentleman I had spoken to before my journey began. He asked me about my experience and wanted to know if I wanted to schedule another session. I'm sure he is experienced enough to know who did or did not enjoy their experience. Overall I found floating to be an ethereal, even primeval experience. Would I do it again? Probably not. Giving more thought to my experience made me realize it just isn't for me. read more

Expect a small learning curve of being in your body without a cell phone, many of us have habits/survival skills to detach from our bodies. After a couple of times, it's an emotional breath of fresh air (which is funny since it's enclosed.) I like stretching in there. This type of tank doesn't feel claustrophobic like a clamshell, it's pretty roomy, and you can always open the door for a moment at first to get bearings. Float therapy is not for everyone. I read reviews about how it works for meditation and relaxation. I thought it'd be helpful for my friend and me to try out at least once. We got a deal through Groupon and booked an appointment online. Easy enough. We found out they only have two tanks/rooms, which are separated, so only two people can book at the same time. Their location is off the 91/55 fwy in the corner with the brown buildings. If you enter from Tustin/Lincoln, stay to your right in the parking lot. I had to sign a waiver when I got there, and I had no issues with processing the Groupon. The place is clean, which I really appreciate. The host guy was nice and explained things well. The individual room has a shower and racks to hang your clothes. They provide shampoo, conditioner, body soap, towels, and ear plugs. I like using my own products, so I took the advice from another Yelper to bring and use my own. The actual floating experience did not go so well for me. It took me a long time to get used to. I actually felt that the water could have been hotter. I got cold within ~10 minutes of floating - I couldn't even submerge my body under the water. The water tank/room was pitch black, so I just closed my eyes to keep from going insane. My head felt like the heaviest part of my body in the beginning. I would fall in and out of sleep; each time I woke up I wondered "how much longer??" Eventually I fell asleep completely but woke up when the music started playing. I woke up thinking I was in my own bed. I recommend rinsing off EVERYWHERE. Later in the day, my earlobes still were caked with salt. I floated (here) weekly, for about 3 years and then the pandemic hit. My last float was during the spring of 2020. Last weekend I went back. Oh my goodness, I missed it so much. Great experience. Got a GroupOn to try this out for my birthday. The reservation process is quick and easy and they have lots of available times. Made a reservation on a Friday for a Sunday morning. Once I got there was greeted by Eric, a very friendly guy who walks you through the process. They provide the towels, water bottle and earplugs, so you really don't need to bring anything with you. Process is simple: 1. You are shown to your private room 2. Take a quick shower 3. Get right into the tank 4. Relax for 90 minutes 5. When the music comes on, get out and shower off the salt. A lot of people seem to think it's scary or claustrophobic but it really isn't. From the outside the tank is a little intimidating. But once you get inside all you have to do is lie back and float. There's about two feet of their special salt water, which just feels like heavy water -- no real smell or taste. The tank is pitch black once you let the door close so it takes a good 15-20 minutes to adjust and get comfortable and really relax on your first time. Once you're on your back you float without effort, so it's really about finding the most comfortable position -- arms up, to your side, etc. For me my neck kept cramping, maybe I wasn't relaxing enough, so I used my hands and arms to support my head and neck most of the time. It's something you definitely have to try once. And I will say, I was relaxed the rest of the day, so if I did it again I'd probably go in the evening. Overall, the facility is new and clean, staff is excellent and they make it comfortable and enjoyable. I will say the tank is a pretty good size by at 6' 1" I did wish at times it was a little longer. I also wanted the water to be a little warmer (but that's my personal preference and I'm sure there's a reason for the temperature it's at. Again, find a GroupOn and try it out. Cleanliness, is the first thing that comes to mind. These tanks are the best, don't get confused by floating in a pod, while those have benefits, the salt content here is much higher like 200 pounds more. I go there to seek relief of back pain, in 7 years I have never had these results, I have eliminated 2 medications morphine and Gabapentin, I got one more to go. I have been able to sleep longer hours, that has been a blessing since I was only sleeping 3-4 hours then the pain would force me to wake up. I have spent thousands of dollars in state of the art laser treatments, acupuncture, chiropractors who did more damage than helped. This worked for me, it detoxed my body and the benefits remain with me for days. I was a first timer and wasn't sure what to expect. When I got here the front areas was clean, cute and comfortable. The person at the desk very friendly and explained everything and really could see I was nervous. I told him I was a little claustrophobic and he said a lot of people are and said to just leave the towel in the door for the first 5 minutes or so until I got comfortable with my surroundings. I have to saw this was a really unique experience, it's dark, like a dark I've never experienced and quiet. So quiet your mind just wanders. I almost couldn't feel the water and at one point couldn't tell if my eyes were opened or closed. I over thought then slept and relaxed in a way I've never been able to. When I was almost ready to get out (didn't make the full 90 minutes) I thought I was so relaxed I would go home and sleep... nope! I had a burst of energy that I haven't felt in decades! It was crazy how amazing my body and mind energized. This is now my need to go place every couple months when life wears me down. read more

Had my first floating experience here yesterday. I've been wanting to try this for awhile and found a groupon for this place. First impressions: Super clean, each room has a large shower, a shelf for your stuff and the tank. Great instructions by the attendant, made me super comfortable. I know some people are nervous doing this for the first time. I wasn't nervous but very interested to see what it would be like in the tank. The tank: you can see the pictures of the outside of the tank posted by others. This isn't the "pod" type. There's ZERO light inside once the door is closed (you can open the door at anytime). No music, just blissful silence and darkness. There are two grab bars inside and I used them to orient myself a few times while inside. The tank is 5 ft x 8 ft so it's plenty big. About 12 inches of super Epsom salty water so you can't help but float. Even my ample booty didn't touch! The water is slightly warmer than room temp and it doesn't cool off like other places. Stayed warm the whole time. Of course, it got a little humid in there so I did open the door and let in some cooler air a couple of times. The process: First you lock yourself in a room which has a shower, the tank and a small table for your stuff. You undress, put in your earplugs (definitely use these and put them in BEFORE you shower), shower, step carefully into the tank and lean back. Once the water stops moving, let go of the grab bars. I found the most comfortable position was with my hands above my head. At first I was focused on my breathing but then I focused on relaxing and my breathing calmed. Make sure you don't hold your head up, the water will support it and keep it out of the water (they provide a head support but I didn't need it). After that, just zen out, relax, meditate, sleep, whatever. I didn't sleep but found great relaxation. Be careful not to get the water in your eyes. There is a towel tied to the door handle so you can wipe your face if you need to. 90 minutes was kinda long but it is very peaceful. I'm sure it's not for everyone but it was great to disconnect from the world for a few. After 90 minutes they play soft music to cue you, you get out, shower again (they provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash) and you're done. Things I will do differently next time: I will be less curious/anxious since I'm no longer a float virgin. I will bring an extra towel. They only gave me one smaller, thinner towel and I need one for my hair. Bring a comb (my hair is long), bring my own products (I didn't care for theirs), wear clothing which is super easy to get on as there is nowhere to sit in the room (I came straight from work in my work clothes so I had to put them back on), bring a mirror (there isn't one in the room - you can go in the bathroom after you are dressed if you want to). I was excited to try this out. I got the Groupon and booked for an appt online (Groupon applicable M-F with exception of the 9pm slot) so I booked a M at 5:30 P.M. Interior decor is nice and Eric showed my boyfriend and I the room then went over instructions. He was patient in answering questions. You have to shower before hand (with the ear plugs in) to wash off any fragrance or creams that can cause itchiness once in the water (just shampoo and body wash pre-float then can add the conditioner post-float)! I hopped into the tank after my shower and left the tank ajar with the towel until I got myself situated and felt comfortable with the complete darkness. Unfortunately I didn't realize I had a flare of eczema on my back and I had some open skin that I discovered when the salt seeped in and caused a major stinging (my fault). I tried to wait it out but ended up having to jump out and scrub my back in the shower. So caution if you have any kind of broken skin (cuts/scratches) Also in the waiver it says you can't have any recent hair dye treatment FYI Luckily Eric was completely understanding and gave me a credit to use when my skin heals because he really wants me to experience it! However, my boyfriend was 100% satisfied with the experience - he even fell asleep and appeared to be very refreshed after float completion. We both will be back! read more

Amidst a strip mall, and I might as well have been in a field in the middle of nowhere. I can't explain eloquently enough the experience. It's the closest to an "out of body" experience I think I could have. I literally felt like I was floating thru space and time. Sounds cheesy but, try and you'll see.
