I reserved a minivan months back and didn't get it, which I had always been concerned about. I did get an upgrade to an SUV, which I was initially bummed at but overall it did work out better than I think the minivan would have. Ultimately though I just wanted to write a review that Matheus S. was one of the kindest and most helpful employees I have ever worked with at any store, much less a car rental store. Salem helped us out so quick and so professionally. It was the best rental car experience of my life. We rented a Chrysler Pacifica from the airport- the tire pressure was low and was making abnormal sounds w the wheel. The threads were worn out. We rented it for a week for a Texas road trip- drove it for under a day- and didn't feel confident it would get us there safely. Hence went to this Avis to get car exchanged. I recently needed a car for a 4 day business trip from Leander, TX to Brenham, TX. I use the Costco Travel site to set up my short term local (not-airport) rentals and AVIS is always one of the choices I receive. I have used this location on numerous occasions, as they seem to offer competitive deals with quality automobiles. We arrived in Austin to find we had issues with our rental car, an Avis competitor. So we decided to go next door to Avis; at the airport. We then were gruffly greeted by a unhappy rental car agent, who had listened to our problems next door at their competitors. He proceeded to tell us he couldn't help us with the daily rate, that he could only give us the walk up rate AND could only get us into a small car; we are not a small couple and having just had shoulder surgery the smaller vehicle was extremely painful and uncomfortable. Next time we will spend more and use Enterprise, as their Agents are more accommodating and are able to offer better upgrades and/or better rates. read more

Do NOT Pre-pay. I am an Avis Preferred Customer, and that loyalty means nothing. The past few years of ONLY choosing Avis... It was wasted time. Bad Service, Bad Policy, Bad Company. Issue: If *anything* changes in your reservation, AND you pre-pay you LOSE your money. No alternative ways, no credits, no exchanges, no transfer of rental to different location, I tried EVERYTHING for Avis to EARN my business. Nothing... no alternatives, nothing... I PRE-PAID! As in... here... I trust you with my money... a LOT of money but just in case something changes there are NO alternatives. No refund, no exchange, no credits, no discounts... nothing... It takes me a lot to write a bad review because I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. We made a reservation Friday night for a full size car. Show up at 9:00 am on Saturday, the employee says we only have a full size truck or a Toyota Camry available. I ended up taking the truck and it wreaked Of smoke, wasn't even vacuumed nor washed. I got home and ended up taking my own vehicle as I was pressed for time and refused to drive that rental. I called the office inside Walmart, had my girlfriend stop in their office inside the Walmart and even called customer service looking for a full refund and got the run around. After multiple unpleasant experiences at this Avis, I felt obligated to leave a feedback. This place is within walking distance to my house so I use this location a lot The agent there is absolutely useless. I think his name is Sam, an older gentleman. It's not Matt (Matt is the younger guy and was great btw). The older agent does the absolute minimum and have never inspected the car once when I first picked up. These things are not a big deal but the few times where I had issues, you really see the incompetence of this agent. He was rude, completely useless and not even apologetic. He's attitude was always I didn't do it, don't blame me, call customer service. Never once took accountability or even offered to help. 1 - rented a car that literally smelled like an ashtray. Since I was late for an appt I ended up just taking the car. I called the store shortly after to let them know the smell and he jokingly asked if I smoked. When I returned the car the next day I asked Sam if there anything he could do for renting us this ashtray. He immediately took 0 ownership and even said "what do you want me to do?" I mean you are working there, I'm sure there are some things you can do with a smoking car. Avis is supposed to have a nonsmoking fleet. Anyways nothing was done there and I had to call customer service. 2 - this happened recently. I made a prepaid reservation and stopped by a few hours later than my scheduled pickup time due to work. Our fav agent was of course behind the desk. Sam said they gave my car away because I was late and had 0 cars available. When I asked what's the point of me making a prepaid reservation then? He told me to contact customer service again and said it wasn't him who gave my car away. This lack of accountability is just amazing. Customer service told me with prepaid reservations, the store is supposed to hold the car for the day. I had to spend time on the phone to modify my reservation to a different place, which was farther. Missed my doc appt, and ended up paying $20 uber to pick up my rental. If I could gave 0 starts for this location and more specifically Sam, then I would. I hope Corporate will do something about this because his actions are driving away a lot of customers. read more

I generally like to give people the benefit of the doubt, maybe they are having a bad day. But when it happens 2 times with the same person, I believe it might just be a customer service problem. I reserved a vehicle through Costco travel in Aug, for an Oct pick up. I walked into this location (Walmart on 620) 2 weeks before pick up, just to make sure I knew the location. I actually ran into a friend returning a car. He informed me that when he arrived for his pickup the day before, they did not have the vehicle he reserved, so in a pinch he had to drive a tiny compact. So I called the day before my pickup to make sure the correct vehicle would be ready for me and they confirmed what I had reserved. When we arrived at 1pm to pick up the car that was reserved for noon, it wasn't there. They offered us a lower class vehicle which we declined (taking a long road trip, we chose a larger vehicle for a reason). While waiting another hour for the original vehicle to arrive and then be cleaned up on site, I tried to contact customer service to get some kind of compensation for having to wait. Unfortunately, the main computer system was down and they couldn't help me. While all of this was out of the control of the man at the counter, his professionalism was still terrible. He was short and unemotional with his words and actions. When he walked us out to look at the 1st vehicle (and each time he walked with us), he walked a good 30-40 feet ahead of us (I truly would have needed to jog to keep up with him). 2 1/2 hours late, our vehicle finally arrived, got cleaned up and we were very pleased with the 2018 Kia Sorento on our 1,600 mile, 8 day road trip. I finally talked to customer service and they offered me a credit of $40 for my inconvenience. When we returned the vehicle, the same man was there and still just as unprofessional as the week before. When I asked about the cost of our bill, he rudely snapped that I should have the amount on my original contract. I wanted to know why the $40 credit wasn't applied. After calling customer service myself (because he was not willing to help resolve the issue), they informed me that the credit would appear in 3-5 days (which it did). I didn't get this man's name as he wasn't wearing anything to identify himself personally or even with the company. While this location was convenient and had the best rate, I will not be using this location again. AVIS did their job in making the reservation process easy, a good price, a great vehicle and compensation for the delay. However, my personal experience with this man is what gives this 1 star. read more

Absolutely the worst. The agents at this location were helpful and kind, but Avis is the absolute worst car rental company out there. I picked up a car and noticed it had a speed wobble, so O took it back to the location and was provided another car. I was given another car with a bit of a wobble in the parking lot, but had to get to work so I didn't take it back. I worked closely from the location and had no need to drive over 30 miles per hour so I had no idea what I was in store for. On my way home from work, the car was literally SHAKING. Concerned for my safety, I drove to Firestone. They told me that the car was not safe to drive as both of the front tires were about to blow out. By this time the location I rented from was closed so I called the number on the keychain. After over an hour of sitting, they told me that I could pick up a replacement car at the airport location (45 minutes away) and that a tow truck would come and pick up the inoperable vehicle. I was greeted at the airport location by a very rude man, but at least he gave me a car that worked. I needed the rental because my car was in the shop and I had to pick up my daughter at camp the next morning. So I figured, stuff happens and at least I got it resolved even if it took 3 hours. I received no follow up calls about my experience, no one asking if I was okay, and no reimbursement for my troubles. To top it off, I have now received a BILL for the towing!!!! Really Avis? I will make sure to never use your service again! How can you make a customer responsible for your negligence? When you rent a car, there should be an expectation of receiving a vehicle that is safe to drive! read more

I rented a vehicle from Avis Car Rental at the airport, I was told that I can return it to any other location closest to me. I returned it to the Avis location in Round Rock and was charged $138 extra for 2 days rental. That is stealing. I called customer's service and was told that I wll be refunded $40. My vehicle broke down the day before my daughter's first birthday party, and I was in a bind. I needed a car while the vehicle was in the shop. So, I prepaid to get things moving quicker. I went ahead and rented for a couple of days, since I unsure of how long my vehicle would be in the shop (also considering this was a holiday weekend). I asked the guy at the front counter, if I needed to return the vehicle early, would I be able to get a refund for the days I didn't use. He said yes. To reconfirm, I also called customer service and asked the same question. They said yes. Fortunately, I was able to get my vehicle back from the shop, later that same day. So I went to my nearest avis location to drop off the vehicle early and was told I would not get a refund; and was told to call customer service. I did, and was told since I prepaid, I couldn't get a refund for the days I wasn't going to use the vehicle. They refused to even try to work something out with me. I went over the contract and nowhere in it does it say, if you prepay, you can't get a refund. If that was presented to me at the time I paid for the rental, I wouldn't have paid in advance. I would've paid per day. I will never use avis again and I will tell anyone who will listen, to never go to Avis either. I will tell them to use Enterprise! read more

I've given this location inside the Walmart 2 stars only because the corporate customers service line was helpful, friendly and well-versed in customer service. My frustration begins with making a reservation online for a last minute emergency trip 1200 miles both ways. I got off my computer and called the location on the way to pick up my mini van, only to find that they don't have one. Wow!! The agent told me that they know the system shows they have them, when they don't because they're shuttled 30miles from the airport to the location. I called later in the afternoon so i was out of luck. I get back online to book another reservation, only it's dangerously close to closing time now. 3 calls, to let them know i'm coming,to that location go unanswered and as I arrive i find the agent siting in a chair reading something. He turned out to be very friendly , HOWEVER, I am told that I get charged each day for 24hours of use BUT on Sunday, my return day, they close at 2 instead of 6, the time I rented. I can't return at 2 but Joe, the manager, rambles on and on about policy instead of being a human being for a second and answering my question... "Do you think this is fair?" I will be charged a 3rd day if I can't return it by 2 and that's how it is. When did people stop listening and become robots?? Not only did I bring it back on Sunday but I vacuumed it first. 4 kids and 1200 miles and I brought it back spotless. That's the respect I show. Joe could've handled this many different ways but instead he chose to spout policy instead of doing right by his customer. I have 20years of customer service management experience and 6 of those in the car rental industry and I still find it puzzling how someone like this manages a customer service business. Thank you, corporate customer service for doing what's right and making sure I don't get charged the 3rd day. We reserved a suburban or comparable vehicle 3 months in advance of our vacation, Salem assured us he would have a vehicle for us. We should call the day before to confirm. I literally called at least 50 times through out the day, even having the manager at Walmart going over to make sure they were open, they never answered the phone. We are scheduled to leave in the afternoon, so decided to pick up the vehicle at 10:00 am. Avis called at 9:00 am to tell us that they dont have our vehicle. We asked about a little smaller vehicle and they said they would charge twice (149.00 per day) what we originally reserved the SUV. We heard everything from they were short because people kept vehicles longer and vehicles were in accidents. Customer service told us that Avis overbooked. How is that for customer service? I would give them zero stars, but that is not an option. I will not use Avis in the future. Longhorn Rentals saved the day with a 15 passenger van. We were looking forward to a little more comfort, but are thankful to have a vehicle to accomodate all of us, read more

I found this business by making a Priceline bid for a week-long rental in order to attend a funeral in Utah, 1250 miles one way. The office is very small, located inside of WalMart on 620, near 183. But the service is incredible for a small office. The managers, Scotty and Joan, are efficient, detail-oriented and attentive. I thought that the seat adjustment on the Nissan Sentra was broken, for example, but Scotty politely showed me I had been working the wrong lever -- personally going out in the heat to work out the problem. When I returned the car, eventually, Joan actually ran to get the receipt to me and close our business -- who runs to serve these days?. I had to extend the car by one day, after encountering a problem with the corporate reservation office, and Scotty resolved the problem quickly. After working through a number of coupons and discounts, Joan found a good deal for me to extend the original return date. It was a tough trip for me, long and grueling, but this Avis/Budget rental business not only facilitated my trip but also stands out as one of the more pleasant aspects of my travel. Please note that the corporate reservation office can not make arrangements with their franchisees and somehow the receptionists seem not to know that. But if you understand that you are working with a franchise with control of its own cars, then I strongly recommend this particular business. I would go far out of the way to use this business. In spite of my real frustration with the corporate office, I can not lessen any stars because of the excellent service here. read more
