Options in Camarillo are extremely limited when it comes to car rental. It's either Avis/Budget or Enterprise. When I usually get a vehicle from Avis/Budget, the gentleman who is usually behind the counter (unfortunately his name slips my mind at the moment) is very professional and there's usually no issues with my rental. Unfortunately this past weekend, I had to make a last minute reservation on Saturday night (right before the Memorial Day weekend) and Avis/Budget was the only rental place openn the following Sunday morning. Upon arrival, I was told that there was several of us who made reservations that Saturday night. I reserved my vehicle for 9AM, I arrived around 9:15. They did not have inventory and we were told to come back at 10:30 to see if any vehicles become available. I call at 10:30 and told no vehicles were returned. I was then told to attempt again at 11:30. So I call again at 11:30, then told again, nothing has come in. The following day (Monday), the location is closed. Customer Service advises me that my reservation was canceled and I would be required too make another reservation. I asked who canceled my reservation as I was not informed by the location at all that my reservation would be canceled. So, not only was I allowed to make a reservation when there should've been something in place to not allow it, especially if you're out of inventory, they canceled my reservation without even telling me that was going to happen. So I make a reservation Monday night, to pick up for Tuesday. Upon arrival, Albert who appears to be going to a sporting event (guess there's no dresscode for this location), greets me. I tell him my situation and see if there's anything he can do for the inconvenience and he couldn't explain why no one informed me about canceling my reservation, simply shrugged, and said sorry. Then, as I was I filling my paperwork, he gets to the point of where I signing off on possible damage that's on the vehicle. I've rented plenty of times here and Enterprise, and they always bring the vehicle lot and have you go over it before you sign off on damage on the car. He directed me to to to the back and check the vehicle, and of course, there's a rag in the vehicle. Customer service (besides the gentleman I mentioned), needs to be retaught at this location. I might have to just pay more for Enterprise, at least they seem to care about how they treat their customers. read more

Car smelled of cigarette smoke the entire time I had it. Then when I returned it they said it wasn't a complete full tank of gas because the marker was at the bottom of the fill line and they made me go back to the gas station to top it off. Said they couldn't compensate me or do anything in exchange for giving me a car that smelled of smoke. If you can avoid using them I'd do business elsewhere. ****Camarillo Avis never again**** They also rent budget. This time I returned my rental ensuring any trash was removed. Previous post where John complained that I left an empty soda bottle in the car. I was out in the desert for the week on travel for work. It was windy and dusty. I returned the car to the Camarillo Avis. John happened to be outside and told me I need to wash the car or a 125 dollar charge. It annoyed the hell out me. I have returned rental cars over the years through rain and snow no issue or charge to clean the exterior. This guy is just lazy. He reduced the charge to 75 dollars. I truly miss Alex who ran this establishment prior to John. Below is the picture of my rental as returned. I going to see what corporate Avis can do, 1st tier unsuccessful, 2nd tier tomorrow. My conversation with Avis/Budget on the morning of my reservation: I received a voicemail from John at Avis/Budget this morning. He left this message a few hours before pick up.. "I was I was calling about your reservation for today unfortunately I am out of vehicles at the moment For For today If you have any questions Give me a call 805987 7214 Have a Have a good day talk to you later..." I called back and spoke to John. A: "What do you mean you have no vehicle for me? I made this reservation 5 days ago." J: I have no vehicle for you. A: I don't understand. Why don't you have a car for me? J: I have no control over people not bringing their vehicles back. A: So why did you allow a reservation to go through if you don't have enough vehicles? What is your solution for issues like this? J: People can change their reservations and extend it. We have no control over that. I called you this morning to help you out! I could've let you come to the counter at noon and told you then. But I'm helping you by giving you a call!" A: You're calling me the morning of my reservation. This doesn't help me. And it's your job to call your customers! I have to get home today and now I'm stuck here because of your incompetency. Wish I was on a rotating phone so I can slam the receiver to hang up on him. I've had reoccurring issues with this location. The first incident occurred while on government travel. The vehicle was filthy. The representative acknowledged it was filthy and offered another vehicle for an additional fee. I asked that he cancel my reservation and walked out. The second incident occurred while renting a personal vehicle. We booked the vehicle through USAA. The individual at the counter complained about the price and asked how we expected him to stay in business with those rates. He than proceeded to rent us a filthy vehicle. Dead bugs, bird droppings, dirt, and dust on the outside. Spilled soda, food, and debri on the inside. Having previously worked in the industry I decided it was time to contact corporate. They were beyond accommodating and genuinely concerned. Corporate immediately issued certificates and contacted the district manager regarding our less than stellar experience. read more

Avis offers great car rental service. They are efficient and friendly. When they didn't have the car I had scheduled they were able to offer me an upgrade with no charge. I was able to rent very last minute on several occasions and they always pull through. I've only ever encountered one mix up with location of drop if but was easily cleared up. The office it's self could use a little up lift in decor but it's a car rental place you want to be in and out and good to go on the road and that's what they're good at. My experience has been consistently outstanding--just like Dawn's. Alex could not be more helpful. I reserve a Premium car and he typically offers me a choice of a few different cars so I get to drive something different every time. His reviews of what each's strengths and weaknesses are is spot on as well. I've rented here a dozen times in the last year, never waited more than a couple of minutes in out. I do remember a long line behind me at opening time once, so I avoid doing that. I would also never pay those ridiculous prices for gas, so I fill up down the street before returning the car. Couple the great service with the way better rates that Avis offers, all the bonus deals they send to my eMail, and the result is that I probably send more friends to this place than any business in town. I rented at this location ONLY because my usual place was booked up. I called to make sure they had vehicles available (after an issue at the Avis in the Oxnard airport) and specifically asked if they had the smallest size/cheapest because I couldn't remember if it was classified as economy or compact which I made clear to him. The guy I spoke with said they did have it and offered a price $15 higher than what's online. I told him I'd reserve online instead and gave him my name. When I went to pick up there was no greeting or acknowledgement whatsoever from him. He walked out while there were two other people waiting ahead of me. Fifteen minutes later her assists me and doesn't apologize for the wait. He tells me I reserved the smallest size, but he doesn't have it. That I didn't ask for a sub-compact car. WHERE AND WHAT IS THAT OPTION??? Then he tells me he'll give me the car he has without charging the difference, but next time he will charge me. He lectured me on this for about five minutes before handing me the keys to a small versa. It wasn't exactly a luxury vehicle so I'm confused as to why he spoke to me like I'm a child. If there were negative stars, I'd use it all on this review. My family & I put 2 cars on reserve last night, via Avis Budget website. Drove 30mins to pick up the entrusted vehicles. Upon arrival, we were informed the vehicles had been rented out. We tried to get a solid answer on what happened. Henry? could not give an explanation & constantly cut me off every single time I tried to ask any question. He was rude, clothes were extremely baggy, customer service less than poor, & did not seem trained in the slightest. His actions spoke as if he was trying to start a fight. As a business traveler living in Camarillo I've been renting at the Avis Camarillo for over a decade. When Alex ran this operation everything was great. Friendly customer service and everything was always on point. Ever since the new management took over a few years ago everything about the location has suffered. I got accustomed to the borderline contentious service and attitude from the counter agents. But today was the final straw. Congratulations Avis Camarillo, you've lost me as a customer. This place has become the most unfriendly, unaccommodating, hillbilly hell hole. Customers are treated like an annoyance by the generally disheveled staff who typically have their child there with them, dirty stained clothes on, no longer allow entry through the rear door, have a basketball hoop blocking the parking area, and tell you that they don't have to honor your reservation if you arrive a few minutes late. It's a car rental, not a flight. The fact that they no longer offer drop off and pick up service at your residence takes away anything unique about this Avis. I know they say they still offer it but every time I've called to schedule a drop off or pick up in the past 3 years, Avis says they cannot accommodate me at that time. Which leads me to the assumption that they no longer offer it. Based on other reviews written they have experienced the same. If you want a friendly experience and a clean car I recommend choosing any other rental location in town. There's a Herz location in the same parking lot and I will have my work set up my rentals through them from now on. read more

I rented a car from this Avis a few weeks ago and had a great experience. We wanted to upgrade to a SUV and were given several choices that were all reasonably priced. Everyone at the store was really nice and friendly. Pick up an drop off were hassle free. We were so glad that we rented from here instead of the airport. read more

Just verified with the local avis guy on the phone- they cannot guarantee a ride back to your residence, even with 24hr notice. Why offer a ride to/fm if you cannot deliver? If I knew, hertz or enterprise close by would have been my choice. read more

Another bad experience at Avis. New rule you can't walk through the back even though they leave it open. All the cars are in the back so it only makes sense. Also, apparently I'm responsible to throw away my empty soda bottle. The comment from the counter clerk, "I'm not a maid." This is probably the reason why the cars I get are so dirty. I'm a veteran who has rented from this Avis location multiple times without incident. John and Aly are the customer service representatives that work here, and they have always been kind, courteous and accommodating. John stayed late once to take in my last minute return, which was a free truck upgrade when a compact wasn't available.. That's service above and beyond in my book. There are some other rental agencies in town that have failed to pick me up in the past, but I have never had an issue here, and I will refer others. When I used this Avis I would be traveling for work and going here was the easiest part of all of it. They were also extremely flexible with changing my vehicle if I needed, when they had the means to. Renter beware! I have rented from this Avis in the past with no problems. This time the incompetence was staggering. The vehicle was returned the day before it was due so I dropped the keys in their drop box after hours with the appropriate amount of gas in the tank, which happened to be 3/4 of a tank according to the contract. I was not only charged for the extra gas, which filled it to "full", but I was charged an extra day because the vehicle was checked in later the next day by an employee. I noticed the charges on my credit card and went down to Avis to find out why. I was told by the manager she would credit my card for the $97.00 since her employee made some mistakes when the vehicle was checked in. That wouldn't have been so bad however, I spent the next 3 weeks trying to get the charges removed with no luck. Avis just kept saying they will keep resubmitting the charges and there was nothing more they could do. WOW! I had to call corporate myself and after much confusion and several attempts, with my credit card statement in hand,they finally said they credited my card. We shall see. Avis needs to problem solve and not just keep doing the same thing over and over with the same result. They weren't even willing to figure it out. Somebody needs to be accountable and in charge so things like this don't get ignored. I will not be renting through any Avis in the future. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had with a customer representative ever. I am disgusted and appalled buy the behavior of the employee named Daniel. He was rude and condescending. He made me cry as I was alone with 5 bags of luggage and 2 kids after driving 400 miles, he refused to help me find a ride home or give me the wifi password so that I could call an uber. And when I asked to borrow a pen to write his name down. He offered it to me and snached it away as I reached for it, commanding me to say please. Horrible experience. Booked online and prepaid with my wife's credit card. In the past they have been able to use my card for incidentals when I pick up. They refused today and switched the agreement to her name causing a "young renter fee" because she is 24. They did not allow me to switch the payment to my card only. Very frustrating because I've done this many times at this SAME location with the SAME employee. Save yourself a headache and go to enterprise. read more
