We had a pre-paid reservation to pick up a car made in advance, however there were no cars available when we came to pick up. We waited for a few hours and also called customer support. No one seemed to care or offer any help. Eventually we left and rented a car from a different car rental company. We had to pay a lot more and missed the even we were supposed to attend. This was a comically bad experience. Just about everything sucked about this place. AVOID. First, my rental didn't come on time because only 1 person was working there and he was "out to lunch" at the time I had reserved. Then they didn't even have anything close to the class of vehicle I reserved. The worker asked "did you reserve this recently?" No, I reserved it weeks prior. Did I mention he helped each person in line in REVERSE ORDER? So if you got there last, you were helped first. The owner/worker, whoever he is, is an eccentric, incompetent little goblin man. I called Avis in Longmont to get a 7 passenger vehicle for 2 days to take our grandchildren out for viewing xmas lights and do some hiking. I booked online and the Longmont CO agent called me 2 hours later to tell me there were no vehicles available and she could not pass me to a manager that might be able to track one down for us. She didn't have the managers number only the regional and could not give that to me. I ask her to call the regional mgr and have her call me. Low and behold the site mgr called me back and was quite snooty. There are no cars, i cant get any cars and thats just that. I explained how back in the day, agents and managers would phone around to find something if they could - she was not open to that citing procedure after procedure. And.... I had to call another number to get a refund for the money i had used to reserve the vehicle. Not helpful at all - and absolutely NO customer skills (either of them). I called the Avis 800 nber and explained. The agent asked me to hold and within 10 mins she had a vehicle for us in Boulder Co to pickup. I thanked her for going the extra effort. Upon pickup the next day, the Boulder agent said hey sorry we couldn't get you a normal 7 pass so we gave you a free upgrade to a Ford Escalade - that way your grandkids can watch the lights from the open panoramic roof !!!! The agent was Jay and he was so very very helpful. We talked a bit at pickup and at dropoff. He was interested in the kids and how they liked the upgrade (3 & 5 yrs). They had a blast !!!!!! And something they will talk about for years ......... now thats customer service and a location that treats you well. Merry Christmas Jay - thank you again - i hope your mgr sees this review. I went to Avis on business and a Sunday. The girls working there was not very happy with life and it was very apparent. An Avis employee came in delivering a car from the airport asking to use the Bart room. He looked to be 80yrs old and pinching his legs together. The girl said her bathroom was broken. But wait, I just used it myself and it was fine. I asked if she could refuse an elder employee the chance to pee, and I offered to fix any problems that may arise. She insisted the toilet would not flush and directed the old guy to pee in the parking lot. Very rude! read more

This was the worst service I have ever received. The agent was rude and arrogant. He could not seem to get my debit card to go through to pay for the deposit and insurance. Who knows what was going on with his system, but he claimed that there was a freeze on my card. There was no freeze and I called my bank twice to verify this, but the agent brushed this off by telling me, "I'm not talking to any bank!" and refused to rent me a car that I had already paid for! When speaking to my bank, I was told that Avis had charged me TWICE for the rental... the rental I was not going to be able to get. I told the agent this and demanded a refund. "I can't give you a refund," he told me. "Then who can?" I asked. He shrugged his shoulders and suggested that this was my bank's responsibility. It took two calls to Avis customer service for me to get those refunds arranged. This all happened a month ago, but to date, I have only seen one charge fully refunded and only a partial refund on the second. It took me four calls to Avis Customer Service to be told that they were keeping $150 as a "cancellation fee," even though THEY were the reason the reservation was cancelled. After an hour on the phone, I was finally able to get a promise for the remainder of my refund. I would never recommend Avis as a company, and, most of all, would advise people to never use the Avis office on E 49th in Boulder! read more

In a word - unethical. I arrived late in the day to pick up my rental car which had been reserved through Avis 4 months prior to picking it up. Rather than asking if I had a reservation, the owner/manager or whoever he is asked how many people and bags I had. Red flag. Confused by the question, I said that I have a reservation. My reservation was through Avis, but he switched it somehow to a Budget rental and assigned an "s" for a standard SUV rather than the premium SUV that I reserved. Being late at night before an early road trip, I had no other option than to upgrade to the premium SUV that I had originally reserved. I had to call Avis 4 different times to get the charges reversed. Who needs that kind of headache before and after a vacation? I wish I had read the other reviews before going to this place but naively thought that by renting through Avis I would be insulated from the dishonest and unethical business practices you read about with other car rental companies. I arranged for an extended rental as I was to be in Boulder, and traveling around for two months. When I arrived I was greeted warmly by Asem. When I mentioned that my 6'4" son was coming to visit, he offered me an upgrade to an SUV. That was greatly appreciated. About 5 weeks into the rental, after my son had to cancel his visit, I asked Asem if he had something a little more comfortable, smaller and better handling. He had a Ford Edge coming in, as I was familiar with the vehicle I told him that would be perfect. The next day, we switched cars and I used it, happily, to the end of the rental period. I would like to offer an aside to this review. Rental cars during the pandemic are not easy to come by as the car rental companies dumped off a lot of their inventory. This puts a lot of stress on the franchises as the selection of vehicles is very limited. To me, that makes Asem's courtesy and accommodation even more appreciated. If you are coming to Boulder, I would suggest you rent your car from Asem's Avis store at 49th and Pearl. read more

The "customer service" representative repeatedly swore at us hung up on us multiple times and refused to do anything about the problem. He then told his manager we were making threats to him. I dropped off my rental here after confirming they'd be open. It took longer to drop the vehicle off than it did to rent the car in the first place. They were understaffed and overwhelmed by one person trying to pick up a vehicle, and one (me) trying to drop off a vehicle. It took 45 minutes before someone could manage to take care of business. I had a slow leak on my front driver side tire. I'm staying in Estes Park and customer service advised I could go to this location in Boulder. It closes at 6pm. Road service advised this location I was on my way and would be there before 6pm. I arrived there at 5:45 to find Avis/budget on 49th closed early even though they new I was on my way with a low tire. Just by Luck Jeff at the other budget location stayed late and allowed me to get to his shop after 6pm. Go support Jeff at his location at 4800 Baseline Rd - Ste D109A, Boulder, CO 80303. Jeff allowed me to refuel and set me up with an upgrade. It could have turned into an nightmare situation do to this location as I drove over an hr on a low tire just to have the location that new I was on the way to close early. Worst car rental place I have ever used. They are totally taking advantage of current climate (pandemic). Due to supply and demand they have the audacity to charge over a $100/day. Well, sorry to say, I have to contribute to my long term experience with Avis at this location. At first, Asem, the manager was helpful and friendly explaining the multitude or rules, regulations, and fine print. Then with other visits for clarification, also with my brother too, to help me understand it all, issues continued. The conflict began in the beginning when I suspected regular overcharges. There was always some explanation that didn't make sense. I kept being charged every 6 days when I paid for 7. Then at the end of my interest in renting from them, I turned in the vehicle one day early before the weekly term was up, in great condition, with my brother as a witness. A few days later I was charged AGAIN for a weekly fee of $325 - even though they had the car, and even though I didn't even use it. The red tape, the fine print, the slick snake oil sales dept., explains it all. Thus, I am writing this to make customers be aware, - and also will be persuing this with the BBB and other industry watchdogs. In other words, don't rent from them. BTW, they have a high employee turn over rate; I wonder why employees don't stay long... is it because they see the fraud? My bankers and advisors directed me to go one last time for an explanation of these fraudulent charges. I did to no avail. Now on to the industry watchdogs to complain further. Meanwhile, I have suffered greatly because of my $325 overcharge that I need for basic living expenditures. Shameful. read more

Very very disappointed with this place. Please avoid this place for renting. Please read my review before you rent this car. If you have kids and planning for long distance don't look at this location. See my summary here. Originally i have rented a car for which there is a limitation on number of miles per day. Also, very expensive compared to my friend who booked in broomfield for half price. Incident1: Immediately my brother booked for the car and they have charged him 700$ with full insurance. We took the first car and after driving one mile Change engine oil light came up. Immediately when we took it back the front desk person said it can sustain for entire yellow stone trip which is 1800 miles. However when we checked the oil life it was 0%. Still he is trying to convince us to take the car. We were relentless in changing the Car and we got a new car eventually. Incident 2: The New car was not cleaned or maintained properly. Lots of bird poop on front glass. Through out the yellowstone trip i have cleaned the front glass at major gas stations. Incident 3: While we were driving in Yellowstone, the car tire was punctured. Two families with three kids(including infant) stuck in yellowstone park where there is no Mobile Signal and wild animal activity. It took 3 hours to reach the roadside assistance customer support. Then they said it will take another 2 hours reach the location. However with the help of rangers in the park we were able to replace the tyre with a spare one. Also, the Spare tire was one of the worst tires you will ever see. It has lots of rubs around the sides. Somehow we were sustained until we reach the Avis rental business in IDAHO Falls, ID. Overall this is the worst place to rent a vehicle. Staff was very unsupportive. Lots of incorrect information. I can give specifics if you need more details. read more

On July 21, 2020, I returned my rental car (black Mitsubishi Outlander) to the Avis rental office on 49th Street here in Boulder. Although it was a good vehicle, I was extremely disappointed in the condition of the car when I picked it up. Had the rental agent given me a chance to get in and look at the car before he sent me off, I most likely would have noticed these items and taken a different car, but I needed to get on the road as time was an issue. He did not do a walk around for any existing damage (there were scratches on the hood when I picked it up), or take a look at the gas gauge. The gas tank was only about half full when I picked up the car - approximately 200 miles left (it should be full with approximately 400 or more or more miles. It cost $17 to fill up the tank before I started using the car. Also, the car smelled SO BADLY of smoke that I left the windows open; bought air fresheners; sprayed the seats with fabric freshener; all to no avail. Avis claims that it has a smoke free fleet - no so in this case - pretty much the opposite. Also, the car mats, etc. were dirty, crumbs in the cup holders I found. It was just not up to par for an Avis rental and I will definitely think twice before renting another car from this agency. With the COVID-19 "extra cleaning claims" - that was definitely not the case with this vehicle. Upon taking the car back, I did fill up the tank to full; advised the agent of the other issues and asked for a credit. He replied "I would not know how to do that" and had absolutely nothing else to say about the situation. The office smelled horribly of marijuana when I was returning the car. This was the most disappointing rental I have ever experienced. I hope others do not have to experience what I did - very sad. Also, when I went to pick up the car, it took quite awhile before someone came out to help. The person before me had rented a 26 foot truck and the response from the agent was "we do not have a 26 foot truck" - not exactly helpful . . . . read more

If we can give less than one star for this rating we will. The agent at the 49th St Boulder facility asked if we wanted an upgrade for our standard rental in which case we adamantly said "NO." Regardless, he ended up charging us the upgrade amount which increased our fee significantly-- even though the vehicle we received was NOT an upgrade based on the description on your website. We didn't notice the charges until we returned home and looked closer at the invoice --- tried to call Customer Service but they weren't helpful since it was on the contract . Look folks, we understand these are troubling times, but that does not give a company like Avis the right to try and cheat your customers . Avoid at all costs. Rented a car (SUV) 2 hours before scheduled pickup. Arrived at location and no car available! I calmly requested that they request a car from another location so I could be on my way - also willing to wait. The bully behind the counter requested that I take it up with customer service and handed me an Avis pamphlet. An hour later, no car. Avis Priority means nothing, 20 years of loyalty means nothing. However, this particular Avis (Boulder) was one of the worst experiences I have had with the Avis. As a result of this, we are cancelling our corporate account with Avis - tired of nonsense at the counter and being stranded on business trips - just not worth it. read more

My wife had rented a car here because her car was in the shop. The gentleman that ran the place called and said she need to return the car immediately because someone else had rented it. We were two hours away staying in the mountains so she drove two hours down to this place to turn the car back in and rent another car. Arrived about 30 minutes before my scheduled pick up, I was greeted politely, and after then normal exchange of business, They didn't have the class of car I had reserved so I was upgraded to a higher class of car which turned out to be better than I expected. The vehicle was clean and worked perfectly. Also comparatively as a last minute rental, the competitors were charging for calendar days used, and Avis charged me based on the actual time I used, so it was almost 75% cheaper than the competitors. Also being open on Sunday to allow for a Sunday drop off was amazing and prevented an extra day charge. I agreed to return a full tank, but with how my schedule worked out I returned it at about 90%. I was charged for 4 gallons of the service fee, but I was given the option to go top it off but declined, so the extra $40 to have them do it I felt was justified. Also the deposit was 1/4 of what I get billed in the past, which tends to cause havoc with the banks. Overall, I liked the way Avis operated compared to others I've used such as Enterprise, and Hertz, and I will most likely check to use them 1st from now on. read more

Reserved a car at this location to pick up around 8 a.m. The office is supposed to be open from 7 - 5, but the door was locked with a note that they'd be back in 15 minutes. 45 minutes later, after calling the main reservation center, they sent us to another location in Boulder to get the car since they couldn't get hold of anyone at this office either.
