I reserved/rented a car for three days from this location and had a very positive experience. Manager Associate Yasmin was great to work with. I explained a possible need to extend my reservation but wouldn't know until near the end of my reservation. Thankfully this could be accommodated if needed. One less thing to be concerned about which made it all the better of a rental. The car was fine, the price fair and accurate to the quote, Pick-up & drop-off were quick, efficient and done by pleasant & professional people. If I need another rental, I'll be back! read more

Not really impressed. I checked in before I picked up the car and it still took them 40 minutes to get me out, in dirty car. Then, they put a $200 deposit on my prepaid rental. The was filthy. I had to pull over and clean where the camera looks out, because the cruise control got an error and wouldn't work till I cleaned out. Turned out to have a sticky substance over that whole area. I got aTesla, since I wanted to try an EV. I might have liked it more, if it weren't so dirty. At the pickup place they told me that I had to return it above 90% or pay a fee, unless I pre-paid. When I showed them my rental contract that says return it at 10% or above, I was told that "we can see when you return the car and you can talk to customer service." I dreaded the return. So I clean the camera areas and find the car ok. Had my return time set for 7pm, but arrived early at 6 to find they close at 5. Huh, nobody told me that when I booked out locked it up. I waited on hold for 15 minutes and hung up. Found the drop box and filmed my key return. Imagine my surprise when the next day I see a $40 charge to my card. Another 10 minutes on hold and learn that it's an additional deposit since I "still had the car." Volunteered to send the video of the return, but she said that she'd just send an email to the location. This is one of my very few bad reviews and it's not done easily. Yet, I can't even give 2 stars this time. I recommend anyone else, or even renting a scooter before this place. Maybe just cancel your trip first. read more

They will not contact you to let you know they gave your car to someone else so make sure to call before you go to make sure they have your reservation still. This is the second time they have given my rental to someone else and had nothing to offer. Worst experience with a car rental company. I just called the Boulder Hertz location now. The agent placed me on hold while he finished up with another customer. I held for 15 minutes without hold music, or the agent checking back with me. Not knowing how much longer I would be holding, I ended the call. I don't mind working with businesses that are busy at the time of my call. My only request is to at least check in with me once during the hold. I prefer having the option of calling back later, over receiving the silent treatment by the business, any day of the week. read more

Hertz Car Rental in Boulder ruined my family vacation. I get ten days off work per year (unpaid), and I took six of them this year, to go see my family in Louisiana for Thanksgiving. I put in that time off request three months in advance, in September! We booked our rental car online the week before, and Hertz charged a $269.59 deposit for our rental car. However, when my (Black) husband went to pick up the rental, they suddenly started saying that he didn't pass his soft credit check, and even if he did pass the soft credit check, they couldn't charge our (debit) card for the full amount because they have a secret FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR ($500) temporary charge for debit card users!!! So they want us to pay a nearly $300 deposit up, another sum of over $400 for the week's rental, and they want to keep an ADDITIONAL $500 of our cash on hold until we return the car!!! He passed his soft credit check well enough for them to rob us of $269.59!!! They still haven't refunded our $269.59, and we had to buy Greyhound tickets, so half of my ONE week's vacation for the WHOLE YEAR is going to be riding the f*ing bus, and I will only get to spend Saturday, Sunday, and Monday with my family, and I'll be spending Thanksgiving on a Greyhound, thanks to Hertz Car Rental agency. read more

I'll repeat what has been stated here numerous times...worst car rental experience ever, they swear that there was smoking in the car because of ash on the floor (see pictures) and in the rubber siding of the window (see pictures)...in my life I have never experienced this...mind you, Colorado has been in the midst of wildfires for the past several months and there has been ash in the air the entire time. In fact, I live (where the car was parked) just 12 miles from the center of one of the largest fires in state history and the sky has been full of ash for days. The pictures they have from when I picked up the car do not show any of the 3 areas where they claim there is ash. Patrick and Karen were the two employees that I dealt with and they are horrible. Never again. They are nice while you're at the location in person but will try to charge you anything and everything they possibly can and hope you don't notice. Of course, they are practically unreachable via phone. I'm writing this after renting a car from the Boulder 49th Street Hertz location a few months back. The service I received was beyond excellent. I had made a reservation for a car at Enterprise on 28th Street in Boulder. Enterprise gave the car I reserved to another Enterprise location and left me in the lurch (and didn't even apologize for the experience!). Pete Johnson, of Hertz, helped me immediately. Not only did he get me into a car for a trip I had to make, he got me into a gorgeous car at a discounted rate. Pete went above and beyond to make sure I had a positive experience and was able to keep my travel commitment. The rental process was simple and fast and the staff at Hertz, particularly Pete, were helpful and courteous. I've been a life long Enterprise/National customer and my experience here has made a Hertz convert. read more

Very unhappy with Hertz Boulder. We reserved a van last night, to use today to pick something up on a tight schedule. Arrived at Hertz Boulder and was informed that they did not have a van for us, but we could drive a car DIA (close to an hour away) and exchange it for a van, if we'd like. I understand that a car rental company may not have the vehicle we've reserved, for various reasons, but in the internet age, their reservation system should certainly have "known" this in time to notify us, so we could make other arrangements. Instead, we had to make other arrangements at the last minute, and show up late for our commitment. A phone call would have been so easy, to save us the trip to Hertz. Without her expert help I'm not sure we would have even made it to our trip! She was kind, courteous, and helpful. She was responsive and communicated as the situation developed. In my judgment, after a heart-breaking struggle with the other location, Karen went above and beyond and did everything in her power to ensure that we were taken care of and sent on our way with positive feelings. I needed a car while mine was being repaired. The rental car was "ok" , but not very clean. The service was terrible. The agent was honestly the most incompetent clerk I have ever experienced. I'm not saying this to be cruel but to state the fact. It took him 45 Minutes to work out my billing as I had returned the car days early and he had to adjust the amount. The initial billing was was very high and when I protested, he was able to bring it down by $120.00. Having read Yelp negative reviews before going in I stayed to make sure I was billed properly and not-over-billed. Thank goodness I stayed! There was no one else in the office and the agent ignored the consistently ringing phone, explaining why I myself could not get through earlier on the phone! I suggest there should be a second agent on duty in that office, both for accurate billing and time involved. (Other clients were waiting to be served). I am also going to notify Hertz main office. Surprise! You can pay, be told you are "good to go", and a month can go by, but you can still wake up to an additional $500 being taken from your account and get over-drafted. It's all smiles in your face, but they want to lure you into a false sense of security before they rob you blind. Looking at the experiences people have put in reviews, it looks like this is their entire brand. I have already reached out to the BBB and will be making sure everyone knows how underhanded and shady they are. They took an already traumatic experience and made it that much worse. If I could give this shop 0 stars I would. The car I just picked up was filthy. Inside and out. My husband picked up his rental car from this shop 4 weeks ago had the exact same experience - coffee spills, dirty mats, ACTUAL GARBAGE and the outside was dirt caked as well. Nasty car aside, they actually ripped us off claiming we chose daily insurance on the car when we did not and billing us a total of $386 for it. We have insurance. We never choose insurance on a rental car. After I asked for the charges for insurance to stop immediately the Manager went so far as to claim I was not my husband's wife - this was AFTER discussing all of the charges on our account, etc because there are "many people who have my last name." Apparently, I could have randomly walked in off the street, guessed correctly that there was a billing issue with someone who shares my last name. (again, he didn't mind discussing all of the details of this person) I travel for work all of the time. I know how to rent a car and what to expect everything about the service and product were sub par. There are plenty of other car rental agencies in town. I would strongly advise getting a printed copy of the receipt before you leave the Boulder Hertz Branch. I needed to get supplemental insurance because I don't have car insurance. I clearly asked how much it would be. I received an answer that I thought I understood, but I was clearly wrong. My credit card bill was $48.77 for the supplemental insurance and car insurance in addition to the car rental for one day. The problem was that I was not told that. I thought that was the total bill. I had a reduced rate on the car. Hertz main office said that it was my responsibility to have read the contract. I agree, but it is their responsibility to be straightforward and honest and give me a printed contract, not tell me that they will email me one. I have not rented a vehicle for two years, but supplemental insurance did not cost that much then. BTW the man was friendly and spent twenty minutes cleaning the vehicle after I arrived to make sure that it was ready to go. The car was fine. But when I called him to discuss the bill, he did not let me know why the bill was the way it was. I had to call the main office who were very perfunctory, left me feeling like I never wanted to rent a car from them again. read more

this place is totally small and stuck in a corner where you would probably never notice it, unless you were actively searching. after having to drop my car off at a local dealership for expensive bodywork, i was sent to hertz by my insurance for a rental. an associate picked me up and drove me back to their location, where i filled out my paperwork and was given a car. although insurance was covering mostly everything, i was slightly disappointed that i was not able to choose my own car, and even more grossed out when the car i was given was a fucking brand new camero. like, i GET that most 24 year old college students would have a squeal-attack if they got this car, but not me. im not a fan of having to lie down to get into a car. i was seriously scared shitless that i was going to crash this thing somewhere during my five mile drive home. despite being plagued with my penis-car, the associates were nice to work with and cooperative. i accidentally left the parking pass to my apartment in the rental when returned it to the dealership, and they worked with me to retrieve it. read more

I'll post this review again since it didn't "make the cut" to Yelp's standards. In addition to my review below, turns out Hertz lost my battery anyways. Seems Matt, the "manager" doesn't have enough time to put the pipe down and find my battery. I get you're not responsible per your contract, but God forbid you put forth a little effort to please a customer. How hard is it to successfully mail a package? I guess there's a reason you're working at Hertz in the first place. What a JOKE of a Hertz branch. I travel 3 out of 4 weeks, every month, for work. I utilize Hertz locations nation wide, and this is by far the worst branch I have ever dealt with. Both employees named Matt (one is supposedly the manager) are the epitome of incompetent employees. They weren't properly staffed during the middle of the day and therefore, they could not have an employee meet me at the body shop to pick up their rental, so I left it overnight (as instructed). In fact, they didn't make it over there until the next day to pick it up, and upon that time, whichever employee picked it up - claimed I had damaged the windshield. Not only did they avoid taking responsibility for the window chip they caused themselves, after Matt (the "manager") spoke with me and confirmed that I would not be charged, he sheepishly charged my credit card for the entire cost of the windshield. Also, to add to injury, I left my brand new mobile battery pack in the vehicle and upon my 3rd phone call to the branch, I finally had an employee tell me "I'll put it in the mail." It's been over a month since he told me that and still no battery. The complete disregard for customer satisfaction at this location is appalling. Do yourself a favor a rent a bike instead, it's not worth the hassle of dealing with this incompetent branch. read more

My wife was in a car accident and her car was totaled she's not able to work so I rented a car here so that I could get to work to make some money so that my family does not end up homeless no exaggeration we're right on the edge because of this accident. However there was an opportunity for me to make a significant amount of money a real godsend at just the right moment so I rented a car at this location I receive the confirmation number everything was good to go until I need to pick up the car they told me there was no cars available and they didn't know when there will be cars available I asked them how does this happen I had a confirmation number you had told me that the car was ready to go I have received email and confirmed on the phone.The person that I talk to at the front desk said oh they always overbook it just in case and I said that I have a confirmation number or is that worthless he said yes that's worthless he said if a car happens to come in then I might call you. He didn't care in fact he treated me like I had done something wrong and was angry and belligerent with me even though I remained calm and courteous there is nothing I can say that it's not terrible about this place.So thank you to this location and to hertz for ruining Christmas good job. I've never regretted spending more to rent from Hertz instead of its competitors. We found ourselves in Boulder needing to add an authorized driver on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend with three people ahead of us in line. The employee working was faster than any car rental employee I've ever seen - she managed to rent two cars to the people in from of us in line, and get our paperwork processed (with a AAA discount, making it free) all in the space of fifteen minutes while being friendly and courteous. It's employees and locations like this that will keep me paying extra for Hertz. read more

Pick up service is not available after 4:30. Office closes at 5:30. As I had a work meeting until 5 pm, I had thought I could have them pick me up after work and then get the rental car before they closed. I did not find this out until I called to confirm my pickup time and location as only the office close time was disclosed when booking this online. When I rescheduled my pickup to accommodate their schedule, they added an additional day to my rental without noting this. They also gave me a car with half a tank of gas, but the paperwork indicated a full tank. I caught these errors a few minutes after I had the rental car, but had to head into their office to get updated paperwork to insure there would be no overcharge. The car was clean, but when I asked whether they had any other options that had better visibility they only cars they offered were +$300 more. Guess they didn't have any other full-size rentals (or it was 5:15 and they couldn't be bothered) as all they offered were luxury cars. read more

Traveling from San Jose to Denver with Front range outside Boulder as our ultimate destination. Checked Hotwire, Priceline etc for best car rental deals at Denver Airport on midsize for 2 weeks: $650. Hertz Local Edition $307. Was going to take super shuttle from Denver airport and ended up splitting a cab for $60 to Boulder to Hertz. Nice friendly staff, car was a Chevy Cruze which was brand new and got great gas mileage from 5-12,000 feet in elevation. Returned to Denver airport on Greenride for $50 saving $200+ All things being equal, we'll go Greenride both ways to Boulder Hertz in the future. read more

TL; DR: This branch was terrible - neither the desk staff, the management, nor the mechanics are competent. The customer service is awful. I would have saved time, energy and money taking the bus out to the airport and renting my car there, from Hertz or literally anyone else. Long version: I arranged for pick up service online, but nearly a half-hour after my rental time there was no sign and no contact for confirmation. I called the branch, and they said they'd send someone right out, then immediately called me back and said they had no cars to rent me as the car they had slotted was recalled. I'll let that slide as it's likely out of the branch hands, but they then asked me to wait around until they'd have something without giving me any kind of time window. Renting a car became waiting for the proverbial plumber. The pick up got lost trying to find my home, and what should have been a 15 minute wait turned into another thirty minutes. The pick up car was unwashed and un-detailed, and had a maintenance light on the dash - this was the car they turned right around and rented to me. Despite having aprox. 16k miles on it, the car was clunky to drive. The on-dash computer showed there was lower air pressure in one tire, but a warning not a concern according to the computer. I drove the car over the weekend, and the night before returning noticed that the tire in question was now a flat. I called the branch in the morning to report the problem. The person who answered didn't know what to do about the problem, put me on hold, and then asked me if I could either drive the car with the flat to the branch or swap out for the doughnut myself. Since I was only 15 minutes away, I opted to drive over. I asked if I could have the car a bit later to make up for lost time dealing with the inconvenience. I was rented my car originally three hours late, and the manager offered me one extra hour of rental, stretchable to an hour and a half with their grace period. Given the problems and how long they took to resolve, this let me come out close to even on my rental time, but still fell a bit short. I travel frequently for professional and personal reasons, and rent from a variety of providers in a variety of cities several times a year. This branch has been my worst experience. Until they're ready to take care of their fleet and their customers, they have no business playing at being a rental shop. read more

I couldn't have dreamed up a worse experience with Hertz had I tried. My friend and I rented a vehicle from them in March. There was an issue, we brought it back, we were given a new car, and in the process of moving our stuff from the first car to the second car, Matt Tudor, the branch manager, moved the first car before we were done moving and ran over some my belongings. This included over $1000 worth of camera gear that was completely destroyed. After we had a serious confrontation with him that involved a paper shredder, we got a statement in which of course he tried to shift the blame to me. I spent 2 months trying to file a claim through Hertz, and since it was an unusual situation, no one knew what to do. I found the process for talking to Hertz completely impenetrable - it took a month just to find the right person to talk to, and employees were on average very rude. Naturally, when they evaluated the claim, they found themselves not liable (go figure!) and denied my claim despite the fact that none of this would have happened had they given us a car that worked in the first place. After that, I took Tudor to small claims court. The Hertz corporation somehow doesn't have an agent listed in Colorado to whom I could have had papers served, so I had no choice but to go after him instead. The court case was this morning, and Tudor brought in a witness who was working the front desk, Leonard Martinez, who is apparently the Broomfield branch manager. Well, both of those slimeballs LIED UNDER OATH, telling some cockamamie story that I kept pointing out the holes in. But because my friend couldn't be there to corroborate my side of the story (i.e. reality) and it was me alone against two other testimonies, the judge ruled only 20% in my favor because Tudor didn't check behind the car and 80% in his since she dumbfoundingly found them both to be credible. Clearly, Tudor knew that he would have lost had he told the truth, so he had to lie to cover his ass. The security footage that conveniently wasn't presented would show that they pulled their farce of a defense deep, deep from where the sun is unable to shine. If you want to rent a car from lying scumbags who aggressively confront their customers when at fault, then I wholeheartedly recommend Hertz! I can also attest to the sincerity of the corporate douchebaggery that so thoroughly propagates through multiple departments and chains of command within this multi-billion dollar company that thinks integrity is worth less than $1000. As for me, you can bet that I and everyone I've told this story to will forever take our business elsewhere. I implore you to do so as well. read more
