I had mistakenly made my reservation for the previous week, so when we checked in, there was no record of us. I was momentarily flustered at my own screwup but I am grateful that the host and manager working the front were so understanding and accommodating and they got us seated anyway. It didn't seem like the place was super full but it's possible they were just managing the capacity based on the amount of servers they had. In any case, I appreciated the stellar service. I'm really disappointed (and a little angry) with this place. With the prices they demand for a plate ($79 for a set brunch) you would think the service would be top notch. It's not. I'm celiac. There are no meaningful replacements for glutinous things -- especially deserts. The food server brought over was 1/3 gluten. If I can't have gluten, why bring over a croissant and a muffin and charge me for it? The deserts he brought over (half were clearly glutinous) and the other half the server wasn't sure about and didn't follow up with the chef to see if I could safely eat it. I had one server tell me the fries were cooked in oil shared with gluten, and the other one said they were separated. What a waste of money. Boo on this place. read more

My husband and I decided to have brunch with some of our good friends at Aveo and tugged along our little toddlers. Not only was this restaurant extremely kid friendly (sippy cups for the children, an attentive and kind staff, and a kid menu that would make any adult drool), but it the quality of the food was impeccable. Everything is made fresh and the portions were quite generous. I had the crab cake eggs benedict and the servings were larger than what I would expect, not to mention delicious! My husband had the Crispy Belly burger and devoured the whole thing. On top of the excellent food, the ambiance was amazing. We were seated outside with a magnificent view of the Monarch grounds and ocean. Overall, we had an amazing experience and would dine there again. I was recently staying at the Waldorf for a conference and our only option for lunch was Aveo. I have stayed at this resort many times (I attend this conference yearly) and have eaten here every year for the past 8 or so years and it's always been great but this last week, the food was horrible. Both days I was hosting clients for lunch and they all agreed that the food quality had gone down and did not enjoy their meals. The service was also a bit slow but it is expected in the pandemic. We tried the ceviche trio, spaghetti, salmon, Cesar salad, chicken and lobster roll and all had little to no flavor. The chicken breast was very undercooked. The salmon was extremely small. The rest of the food was just bland. The only decent tasting item was a club sandwich. I'm very disappointed in the food and will consider leaving the resort at lunch next year to another restaurant. read more

My friend and I live locally and had lunch here to celebrate her milestone birthday. I work in customer experience as a profession and the hospitality at Aveo was a fantastic and memorable experience from start to finish. I had called ahead to give them her name and asked if they could do a special dessert. From the moment we approached the hostess stand, they greeted us and said Happy Birthday to my friend. We were seated at a beautiful table outside near the fire pit and the most beautiful view. Our server was Esthefani and she made us feel like VIP's the entire time. She was warm, friendly and very competent. She welcomed us with complimentary champagne and greeted us by name. We were already impressed by the level of hospitality and the location, but the food also exceeded expectations. It was fresh and incredibly delicious (we had to split the leftovers because we both loved it). After lunch, Esthefani brought out an excellent dessert with a special birthday message that included my friend's name. We were there for over two hours and did not want to leave. My friend and I don't get to see each other often, so this was really a special day for us and the team at Aveo and Monarch Beach Resort really knocked it out of the park. I highly recommend it if you love corn and butter squash (two of my top favorite veggies.) My friends ordered the Breakfast Taco with soy chorizo from the lighter fare breakfast section which wasn't so light at all. The order was pretty huge and they loved it. I ordered the Breakfast Taco the next day since everyone recommended it but I didn't really enjoyed it as much as they did. It wasn't bad but personally I don't like chorizo. It gives me great pleasure to write this review for Chef Donald Lockhart! We met at his cooking class for members only and from there it has only been an amazing experience. He manages all of his guests with patience and knowledge. Then you get the surprise of his delicious dishes all beautifully presented. I believe that Chef Donald is on his way to make AVEO a Michelin star restaurant. I feel very fortunate to have become a member and to enjoy all of the amenities that Monarch Beach Resort offers. A horrible experience!! Went to dinner here last night and waited over 1 hour for one appetizer out of our two appetizers to come. Then the next appetizer arrives 15 minutes later after about an hour and 30 minutes we got our entrées the only reason I would give this place a one star is because out of our two entrées the steak was actually quite good and prepared well. The descriptions of the food on the menu look amazing but when you get your food it's so below average it's nothing like what is described. I know we can't blame the food not coming out of the kitchen on the waiter, but the waiter was completely frazzled he could not remember to get ice which we asked for, he could not remember to get us limes to go with our sparkling water, which we asked for twice. He may not have even put our orders in because he just didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. All the people around us were also complaining and quite unhappy we really actually didn't say too much, but people around us had gotten their meals comped they didn't even offer to comp our meals and we actually didn't say too much other than we did speak to the manager for a moment after it had been well over an hour and we hadn't gotten any food but the manager didn't seem to really care too much because he didn't offer to make any type of concession to us for the fact that it's been over an hour wait for one appetizer to come. The food was less than the quality you could get at low end chain restaurant. I walk away from here asking myself how can this restating be in this place!! read more

It was the most disjointed dinner I've ever had. The point of eating together is the together. - we ate rather in shifts. Bad on the chef. This had little to do with the servers on a relatively misty and quiet night. The desert - meh- the baklava was NO baklava - a tasteless layer cake absent of any filo or nuts or honey. Wow. My wife and i went here for dinner for our 5yr anniversary this weekend, and it was excellent. View was beautiful, food was great, service was perfect. I think our server was Nicole - she was very sweet, gave good input on food items, etc. In fact we interacted with several restaurant staff, all very professional and kind. The manager came to our table to congratulate us too. Great experience. Tiger shrimp cocktail was excellent, but could have used a bit more cocktail sauce. It used to be the home of the famous brunch when It was a Starwood property. But that's changed, so we have to move on. We had breakfast after a leisurely coastal drive to get there. The staff was attentive, and it was fun watching a seagull being opportunistic with bits left over by other guests. They do serve breakfast brunch, but unless you feel like eating like a horse, order it off the menu. It will be fresh out of the kitchen, and not dried out by having been presented in the buffet table all morning. Go there to enjoy the company that you keep, the view and the ambiance. Depending on your mood, heck, sometimes Taco Bell is fantastic. So, we don't always make it about the food. Don't get me wrong, though. The breakfast was still good.
