Big enough to split but promise me you won't want to lol If you are looking for your local 2 egg breakfast joint with a glass of OJ, this ain't it. But if you want to feel like you've been transported to the Emerald Isle, with Irish decor, shamrock inspired menu and green carpet to match? You've found your place. We had a bunch of rowdy 10 year olds that were spilling things, and causing chaos. Our waitress, Elizabeth took it on stride and was calm and friendly. The food was soooo good. I had the burger of the month, ( French dip burger), my buddy had the blue cheese burger. Absolutely perfect. Great atmosphere. The best place to stop by after a day at the beach. My family used to live two blocks from here , and today stirred up some great memories of their food and atmosphere. We will be back!!! read more

We were at the Hobie Surf Shop across the parking lot last evening. We had an event at 6:30 in the neighborhood. When I spotted this charming Irish pub I said let's grab some early dinner. There was live music on the patio, but the pub was warm and cozy and not too busy for an off-season Friday night. We were cheerfully greeted and quickly told "to sit anywhere. We grabbed a cozy booth and surveyed the tasty options on the menu, While we waited for our drinks, which quickly appeared. The waitress was tall and beautiful and very efficient. The drinks were good and we ordered the sliders and onion rings. The food was fresh and really good and delivered fast and friendly. The onion rings came with a side of barbecue sauce. We left full and happy and not broke. The live music was good, really good. The parking was free and easy. The "Hook and Anchor next door was buzzing. Love the atmosphere at the outside back bar, great for watching a game and they have been all in for the World Cup so if you're into that this is a great place to go. The food is pretty good, they have a nice selection of American/ Irish food. Burgers, sandwiches, salads and soup, the French onion soup isn't half bad and goes great with a French dip sandwich. The bartenders are really awesome people, they can mix just about anything with the full bar. If you are in the sjc area with Trevor's and other restaurants packed on the weekend, try Hennesseys tavern, it's a nice calm getaway from the crowds for a minute to relax with a drink. read more

I reserved the Green Room at Hennessey's Tavern for a Saturday night birthday + going away party, and the entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. I initially spoke with the manager, Ellis, who was incredibly accommodating. I called a week before to confirm and again the day of the event, and each time they had all my information ready to go. I even needed to push the reservation back by an hour, and they handled it with zero issues. When we arrived, there had been a small mix-up and some guests were accidentally let into our reserved Green Room. As soon as Ellis realized what happened, he immediately stepped in and graciously relocated the other group without any awkwardness. It was handled quickly and professionally. We had about 35-40 adults in the room, and our server Olivia was AMAZING. She kept up with all of us effortlessly, handled separate tabs, brought water without being asked, and was consistently available and helpful all night. Truly impressive service. The Green Room setup worked perfectly for a party -- multiple square tables with chairs and a large TV (we didn't use the TV, so I can't speak to that). They were able to play music in our room so it wasn't quiet, and there was also a live band that started at 9:00 p.m. right next to the Green Room -- and they were very good! Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. I absolutely will be back and would 100% recommend this spot for your next party or event in South OC. Some guests ordered food, but I personally didn't get a chance to try it, so I'll refrain from commenting on that -- I like to be honest in my reviews. A group of four of us stopped in on St. Patrick's Day for dinner. Overall, the food and table service were very good--no complaints there. The atmosphere was festive, and our server was attentive. However, I have a serious issue with how the beer was handled. Two of us ordered Modelo on tap and were told it was only available in a 23 oz pour. When the beer arrived, it was served in what looked like a standard plastic pint cup. I questioned the size, and instead of a simple clarification, the bartender came over with an attitude. He brought what he claimed was a 23 oz glass and poured it into the plastic cup, stating he didn't appreciate my "accusations." Even then, the glass itself didn't appear to be filled to a true 23 oz level before pouring. To be sure, I took the plastic cup home and measured it. Filled completely to the brim, it holds about 22 oz--and there's no realistic way to serve a full pour to the absolute top without spilling. In other words, what was served was almost certainly less than 23 oz. The bigger issue: we were charged $14.24 for a Modelo. That's extremely high, even for Dana Point--and especially if the pour size is questionable. I didn't push the issue at the time because we were enjoying the evening and didn't want to create a scene. But in hindsight, it feels like we were overcharged for a product that didn't match what was advertised. Bottom line: * Food: Very good * Service (server): Good * Bartender interaction: Unprofessional * Value: Questionable I don't mind paying premium prices in Dana Point--but I do expect honesty and transparency in what's being served. read more

This was a Tuesday when they offer 2-4-1 breakfasts. We got one eggs Benedict and one Dublin Benedict (with corned beef and hash) and one giant burrito to go. The food was spot on and was delicious. There was a little attitude problem with the server but it was understandable, it was early, the place was getting crowded and she was alone. Pretend to be a little busy and the staff is super friendly, just a little slow at times because they're either short staffed or overwhelmed. They do a good job of checking in on you during your stay it really are happy to help make you experience enjoyable. Tuesday is Bogo burger day, any burger on the menu. Thursday is $10 Smashburger day in the portion size is a great value. Recommend the chicken lemongrass potstickers, Korean barbecue boneless wings and pretzel bites. There are various events throughout the week including karaoke, live bands, and other events. My one and only complaint is that it smells like stale beer in there, they really should give the fabric on the booths a good cleaning as well as maybe the carpet. Hennessey's is a great place to come when everything else in town is closed. You can consistently get a good meal after 9pm at night. This is essential for our lives here in sleepy So OC. It seems like the rest of town rolls up the sidewalk and goes to sleep, then we want to go out for dinner. The outside bar and table area is a nice place to sit. I rarely have eaten on the inside but we did have a large group inside for breakfast and it was convenient and really very nice. We were the only people there. I'm not sure that many people know they are open for breakfast. The food is pretty good for bar food. Not gourmet but not mediocre bar fare either. They are a step above that. Very fun place, especially great if you get the right employees. I went here after my first functional night after an extended stay at the hospital, and Justin and Chelsea seemed to know somehow. They were very attentive and kind to me. The bar can be trashy, crowded, and loud, but that's really what you come for- to cut loose, get tasty, decently priced drinks and food, and to party. The crowd runs both very young and very old, so if you want someone to talk to, chances are you'll find a drinking buddy here. Additionally, they constantly have live bands and karaoke going on, so there's always some entertainment. Service was very nice! We had someone being trained and they did a great job! The food was the worst I've had at a Henneseys ever. I had a fried chicken sandwich with 1/2 and 1/2 fries and onion rings...the fries were great! The onion rings and chicken sandwich were so overcooked they were inedible! Awful!!! My wife and I have been coming to Henneseys for 35 years starting in Seal Beach while in college. I bit the onion ring and it cracked so hard it flew all over my shirt staining it. Tried the chicken sandwich and it was so overcooked I put it down and tried to cut it and it exploded all over the table. Overpriced and bad food, my wife told me that she came her a few months ago and something wasn't right and the waitress told her "we're not known for our food" hahaha It's Sunday and games are on and there are 12 people in the whole place, indicative of what they have become. It's a shame another icon of Southern California down the drain won't be back do not waste your time and money... it's not like it has an ocean view to negate the bad food and drinks! read more

I was down in the Dana Point area on a Saturday afternoon (9/28) and stopped into Hennessey's for lunch. Casey was the very friendly bartender and she provided great service. I ordered a bottle of Smitgwick's which was served cold and quickly. For lunch I ordered the The Dublin Burger (medium) (Irish Cheddar, Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce and red onions, I swapped the tomato for onions) and served with fries. Definitely took most home. It was very busy and there was a band playing classic rock covers. Although being super busy, our server was quick to greet us and the wait time on our meal really wasn't bad considering the amount of people. Very much a bar seen, I imagine it's different during the day.
