The burgers are Amazing!!! I highly recommend this place. They are a little pricey but it's totally worth it. Super friendly service.

It is with great sadness and a burgeoning hunger that I start describing the best burger joint I have ever been too in my life. The ingredients are fresh. The meat is outstanding. The execution of composition, cooking and plating are exquisite. I have eaten here twice with my girlfriend. The first came on a whim on route to see her mother in Columbus, OH; the second came on the return trip where we literally planned our departure time so we could arrive in time for lunch. That's when you know you've got something. When people make their travel arrangements around your hours of operation. We have tried several burgers, all of which we highly recommend: the poutine, roasted jalapeno, mushroom, and smoked gouda. My favorite part is knowing that I can try something new each time and love it just as much as the last one. My least favorite part is that I don't get to eat the one I had last time. So this is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in Wheeling. It opened last week and I've already been twice (don't judge me) :) Pros: Everyone at dinner both times was really happy with their food! Things that got especially good reviews: The portobello mushroom sandwich, the burgers, and the brie/pear sandwich (which is served on cinnamon bread, which sounds superweird yet I really want to try it!), fish tacos They have a good selection of smaller plates if you're not super hungry. For such a nice place the prices are really reasonable! Water comes in a big glass bottle on the table so you can serve yourselves - supercute. Cons: Seating is super-limited. They can fit a party of 6, mayyybe a party of 8 but there are only 7 or 8 tables in the whole place. They're definitely still working out the kinks with service and getting everything up and running (i.e. they don't have their liquor license yet) but give them a chance! I am sure that's standard for any new place. Other: Parking - I think the lot fits like 3 cars but it's not really a con since street parking was never a problem to find, more of an FYI. I contacted Avenue Eats with a unique request... I live in Phoenix, AZ and there is someone special to me that lives in Wheeling that had a birthday coming up. She happened to forward me a photo of this amazing cake that she saw on Avenue Eats' Instagram account. Being that I live in Phoenix, I figured it would be worth a shot to call and see if I could order this cake, and as a stretch, see if I could offer additional money to one of the employees to deliver it to the birthday girl, who works 3 miles away from this restaurant. I called late on a Friday and the girl I spoke with could not have been nicer. She recommended that I email Lara who is in charge of all special cake orders. I proceeded to email Lara and explain my unique situation. She quickly responded back to me the very same night. She was so sweet to offer to bake and deliver the cake herself. I expressed my gratitude and we kept in touch all weekend. I followed up to arrange payment and sure enough she is delivering the cake, along with a note personally. Unique situations like this don't come up every day and I am not quick to ask people to go above and beyond. Lara was so gracious and kind to not only accommodate this request, but to it with an eager and sweet demeanor that truly explains why her business is successful. Thank you Lara, I appreciate you helping me try to make someone's birthday special, from 2000 miles away. This review is actually not for Avenue Eats, but their new bakery endeavor, Whisk. I am NOT from Wheeling and on the recommendation of my hotel, ordered a dozen plus cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries to my hotel for a surprise for my boyfriend. These cupcakes were BEAUTIFUL, and HOLY DELISH!!!! I am gluten free and the gluten free red velvet cupcakes were fantastic - they did not taste gluten free, but were, as a hospital stay was not included in our weekend getaway. Everyone I spoke to at Whisk was so nice and made sure that the gluten free cupcakes were baked separately and were in a different box from the gluten-full cupcakes for my boyfriend. He was delivered an arrangement of Key Lime Pie and Peanut Butter cup chocolate ones and I am pretty sure he ate about four cupcakes in a row before breathing they were delicious. It was such an EASY experience ordering custom baked goods and they were beautiful and delicious. My only complaint is I don't live closer to order from them more often!!! We tried to check out Avenue Eats to see how magical the non-baked goods were and unfortunately it was closed due to a kitchen flood. Look forward to returning to try out Avenue Eats soon, and HIGHLY recommend Whisk. read more

We were staying the night at Oglebay Resort and the onsite bar/grill was packed so we ventured out into Wheeling. Avenue Eats' Diner Burger was rated as one of America's best by Thrillist, so we had to try it! First things first: the burger is worth the trip. Simple but delicious. Perfect bun, delicious accomplishments. Our table also had the sloppy joe (yum), the grilled chicken sandwich (sans bun, #gluten free), and the BLT. We rolled in about 40 minutes before they closed, and the staff was really nice about it and the service was excellent. read more

I went to Avenue Eats for the first time today and ordered take out lunch. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was different from what the neighborhood usually offers, which is a welcomed thing! The noise level was average. There was a television on one of the walls which wasn't overbearing. Food: There is a good selection from which to choose. I ordered the barbeque burger with fresh cut fries (total came to $7.42). I liked the portion size, it was just right for me. Compared to other places such as Quaker Steak & Lube, where the burger and fry portions are monstrous, Avenue Eat's sizes are smaller. However, I never eat all 3000 calories from Quaker Steak so this place was just right. The fries were very delicious and were salted just enough. The burger was so much better than the traditional McDonalds/Wendy's burger. I will definitely be going back to Avenue Eats and will recommend it to all of my friends. read more

THis place has the best chairs. We sat in these really nice cushioned chairs adn had dinner. My boyfriend and i stopped here while driving to st. louis and it was great. I got the black bean sliders (pretty good- wish they had some more hot sauce), and he got the fish tacos ( he was a fan). The service was great. The people are so nice. Just make sure you aren't in a rush, because these people aren't speedy. But I do recommend this joint. read more

A surprisingly delicious gem on Washington avenue, Avenue Eats has a simple, yet delicious menu. I heard they had great burgers so I had to try the jalepeno burger. The meat was fresh and the fried jalepenos added great flavor to it. The fries were also delicious and fresh. The service was just ok, but it didn't bother us. In a city that doesn't seem to be able to keep and support local small restaurants I hope Avenue Eats sticks around for a long time. I can't wait to go back and try some different items! read more

Never disappointed! The burgers are absolutely the best in Wheeling. Cheese plate for two is so so so delicious! The burgers were tasty. Mine was greasy, but I'd ordered mine rare. My wife's burger was fine at medium-well with no grease. The grilled buns were a good touch. Her fries were a bit over-done in appearance but tasted great. We both polished them off. My side salad was good. The dessert cupcake was like so many gourmet cupcakes...half the height of the thing was icing. We split one. It was good, but we left a lot of icing on the dish. The waitress was friendly and the service outstanding. If we come through Wheeling, West Virginia again, we will make it a point to stop here to eat if we're hungry. Stopped in here on a Saturday evening. The place is pretty cramped with only a few tables for more than 2 people in the back of the restaurant. We were seated at the only available table and were given menus right away. The menus are pretty tall and you and the other person at the table can't really lay them on the table at the same time to browse because the tables are so small. Trivial detail. We both ordered waters and were brought out 2 very small"cups" and a glass carafe of water, which I really liked, but it adds to the cramped feel of the table. I was expecting glasses and these "cups" were a foggy plastic, much like the older Coca-Cola cups that used to be around in family restaurants. I had a pub burger which was very good. It is grass fed beef and it has a "sausage" like texture compared to grain fed beef. A lot of people think the burgers are expensive, but a pound of grass fed beef can go for as much as $6/lb, so that is the reason. The burger was excellent. The fries were great, but it wasn't much food, again, attributed to the cost of the beef. In Avenue Eat's defense, they were very busy night with only 2 servers. I had to get my own ketchup and napkins from a storage area nearby. Will I be back? Probably. Although I would really like to see this place in Centre Market Wheeling to add some competition and variety to the downtown area. Edit : I visited this place a couple days after they reopened due to a burst water line flooding their kitchen. Food was excellent. Had the Gouda burger. As I said before grass fed beef has a different texture, almost sausage like. The burger was full of flavor and served hot. I opted for the fries and they seemed to be fresh cut and fresh out of the fryer. Ketchup was served in a steel condiment cup on the plate. Service was excellent. I apparently forgot to review this when I ate here about a year ago. Really impressed with the burger I had--quality ingredients and very well prepared. Cupcakes also very, very good. I just had one today they had donated to a charity bake sale, which is what reminded me to check my review. Really top notch cupcake. (They now have a separate bakery called Whisk, but I hope they still serve the cupcakes at AE!) Prices a little steep for the area as I recall, but not exorbitant. Lack of seating is unfortunate, I bet they could do a lot more business with a few more tables. read more

'Gourmet' sloppy joe on a brioche bun! It was delicious. My only complaint is that it could have been sloppier. Read: more sloppy meat please. The burgers and fries were also really good. One of my favorite places in Wheeling! My fiancee and I went again today to celebrate a special occasion, and had a great meal for a very reasonable price. At $11, the cheese board for two is a real treat. Three kinds of cheese, assorted olives, grapes, crostini, and amazing house-made balsamic tomato jelly. This is the second time we've had the cheese board, and it might be nice to see a few different cheeses now and then (although the ones they do have are quite tasty.) We also shared the fish tacos, which I actually can't recommend. They were a little bland, and could use a more flavorful sauce. Dessert was a different story though! The waitress mentioned that they feature special desserts on weekends, and this weekend it was red velvet whoopie pies. So amazing! Will definitely be going back! read more

Gourmet at Gramdma's was the thought that came to mind in this house turned foodie haven. Not sure what I would get in W VA for food and so I followed my yelpt family. Once again I was put on the right road(Avenue---get it, OK a bit cheezy). Any how, pleasantly surprised with my roasted red pepper and goat cheese burger on a ciabatta roll. The grilled chicken club is TO DIE FOR, and their pretzels and burgers are AMAZING!!! This is my favorite restaurant not only because of the food, but the servers and ambience are so great! I went with my mother because we heard it was good food. The place was dirty and they served us funky smelling tap water in a dirty glass carafe. There were only two other tables seated when we got there and we were treated like an inconvenience. When we looked at the menu, it was grossly overpriced for the selection. Then to top it all off, one of the girls who worked there had her butt cheeks hanging out. I am not talking just short shorts. I mean several inches of cheek showing. I don't really want butt around my food. If I did, I would have gone to a strip club. I certainly wouldn't take children there and was extremely embarrassed that I was there, let alone having my mother with me. We didn't even make it to the food. This eatery was fabulous. They have a very accommodating and friendly staff along with amazing food! The staff allowed us (along with our dog to eat on the deck, which was perfect given the beautiful weather that we had that day. My family of 4 ate lunch here on a Friday afternoon passing through Wheeling on our way to Ohio. They were very busy, but the staff was busy hustling to assure that all of their guests are taken care of. I ordered the Blueberry-Pomegranate Salad with grilled chicken. It had almonds, goat cheese, fresh blueberries and pomegranate seeds along with a flavorful balsamic dressing. Perfect. I highly recommend this place when you are in Wheeling, WV. read more

I stopped here for lunch while visiting the area for a wedding. A neat place but very small inside. Server was very friendly. I had the Grilled Brie and Apple Sandwich with a Side Salad. We stopped here during our road trip because of all the great reviews. At first we were a little disappointed because of the long wait for our food. However, the food was well worth the wait! The burgers were amazing! I got the one with bbq sauce, carmalized onions, and cheese. The cheese was covering the sauce and onions. So good! The burger was so out and flavorful. Hubby got the mushroom swiss burger which he said was excellent. Our boys got the wings. The buffalo and the Korean bbq. Both were so flavorful and crispy. The Korean was definitely different. Lots of cinnamon flavor. They must use Chinese 5 spice, which I love anyway. We went about noon which was apparently a good time because when we left there was a huge wait. What a charming restaurant in Wheeling! It's not too far from the freeway if you are traveling on US70. Most of the menu is made up of different types of burgers and now I understand why. The meat was fresh and cooked perfectly. The brioche buns were delicious and so were all the toppings. I had the roasted jalapeño, my husband got the Greek burger and my sons got the steakhouse and breakfast burger. All were happy with their choices. The server was very attentive and prompt and the restaurant was very clean (including the bathrooms). It was an excellent stop on our road trip! read more

I enjoyed the black bean sliders but I found the 'gourmet' sloppy joe to be on the bland side. We have been there 3 time and I have never found the beer to be as cold as it should be served. Heard, as many in the Valley have by now; of the great burgers offered by Avenue Eats. I'm happy to say they lived up to their awards and merit serving me one of the best burgers I've had. The food alone was enough to score a 5* review from me. Coupled with a "front house" staff that was friendly and helpful instantly gave me hope for an overall great experience. Unfortunately that's where everything stopped. The wait staff was pretty well indifferent to our presence, not even asking if we wanted drinks. I can excuse that due to the fact that 2 in the afternoon saw a never ending flow of patrons. What drops the review for me, however, was after reading others' reviews and driving by everyday and seeing that kitchen door hanging open. Other than sanitation issues there's a severe food safety issue. We'll go back but not until that issue is fixed. read more

One of the best restaurants in Wheeling. Especially friendly for vegetarians, I totally geeked out with their tempeh options. Tempeh tacos were delicious and the burgers can all be tempeh as well if you'd like! However, nearly everything has cheese so that limits the vegan options. The food is great, however if you are quite hungry this is not the place for you, portions are quite small. A bit pricy for the amount of food given.
