A diamond in coal country! We come in from Cleveland a couple times/year to visit family, and have had a difficult time finding a go-to place to eat amongst all the chains and standard food that we could just make at home. Not anymore! We will definitely be back to Avenue Eats! The burgers and fries are perfection and on the same level with our Cleveland favorites (like iron chef Michael Symon). We also had the wings with the spicy Thai sauce- yum!!! Our 91 year old grandma had the apple/Brie sandwich on cinnamon raisin bread- and that was divine. The salads looked great as well. We stopped here for lunch while driving through on our way home during a torrential downpour. The place has a hipster-y vibe to it that's fun. I got the Brie and grilled pear burger- gave the bacon to my husband- with a side salad. It was delicious, though a bit too salty for my taste (I'm pretty sensitive to salt, so I think most everyone else would think it was just fine). The brie with the pears and caramelized onions was a great combo. My husband got their special burger with the patty that has 25% of the beef replaced with mushrooms. It was so good. The side salads were good too. We didn't get any dessert, but saw the display of cupcakes that looked amazing. Nice hipster vibe restaurant that is also family friendly. My family and I tried this place while in town to see oglebay Festival of Lights as it was recommended by a friend. Seems that I maybe a family owned restaurant and the service was nice. They have a nice selection for everyone's palate and food choice. Started out with appetizers that included pretzels and poutine. The pretzels were really good and beer cheese was perfect. The poutine was good but is definitely not like a traditional Canadian poutine. The cheese was melted Mozzarella instead of cheese curds and the gravy was thin. We tried the burgers since that's what they are mostly known for. They use grass fed beef with a variety of delicious toppings. We had the smoked Gouda , the pub , and blue cheese burger with absolutely no complaints regarding taste. The burgers were juicy and cooked how you want and are more on the smaller to medium size serving. We had the side salad which was lacking and nothing special that I couldn't make my self. We ended with dessert deciding on cupcakes as they were out of cheese cake already although it was a Saturday at 4 pm. The cupcakes were really fun flavors and moist. They had an Oreo , lucky charm , and a fun popcorn Carmel movie theater cupcake so we decided to split all three. The Oreo cupcake was divine ! Would try again if in the area. read more

The food is amazing. All of it! Seating is a little crammed. The servers are nice and helpful. Never try to reach them online for events though. They take a very long time to get back. I've noticed management has been rude indirectly to customers in the past so I'm taking off a star for that. In reality, you probably shouldn't try to book an event here just because it's so tiny. I travel 3/4 weeks a month for work, all over the country; I get to try some of the best and worst food out there. Avenue Eats is one of THE BEST restaurants I have come across. Everything my partner and I ordered was not only good, it was exceptional. The ingredients are high quality and the food is perfectly well prepared. I don't often bombard the waitress with food compliments, but tonight I had to let her know that I was truly surprised and incredibly satisfied with our meal. If you're looking for somewhere to eat and you're in the area, go! If you're 40 minutes away, still go!! I sincerely hope I get to return one day in the near future. Homemade fresh farm to table cooking. The food is tasty and it has different herbs and spices inside that bring out the taste. I wish they had more comfortable seats with cushions because I'm old and I have some hip pain but other than that I highly recommend the place. read more

Driving through on I-70, we chose Avenue Eats after checking it out on Yelp 3.5 hours before we arrived. With that much anticipation, it easily could have failed to meet our expectations! The staff was wonderful. The patio is nice, though noisy. And the food was delicious. We had the pretzels appetizers, my husband had a Gouda burger, I had a grilled pear and brie burger, and we shared a raspberry lemon cupcake for dessert. My husband found a beer he wanted, though he suggested they needed a good pilsner to go with the pretzels and mustard. When we got the bill, we were even more impressed, as that meal in a big city would easily cost twice as much. We plan to come back in a couple months when we are driving through again. read more

This place never disappoints. We hail from 2 bigger cities and this place could certainly hold its own in both. LOVED the vegetarian and vegan options, the black bean sliders are my favorite veggie burgers of all time. And the teriyaki tempeh tacos were sublime. Even the side salads were always fresh and fantastic - I recommend the balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Awesome dinner with friends in a small town. My husband and I stopped in for dinner Friday night and happened to find friends also having dinner. Food was excellent and company was delightful. I had the barbecue beef and he had the jalapeno bacon burger and both were excellent. I asked to substitute the homemade fries with a side salad with added ingredients. I had heard good things about this Wheeling Restaurant from patrons of Wheeling Coffee Shop which is just across the street. I went to try it out last night, fully expecting have one of their fresh ground hamburgers that people were raving about. However, we had the black bean hummus and black bean sliders with crispy fries and carmelized onion dip. It was great!!!! I will try the hamburger next time, which won't be long. Definite recommendation for lunch if you're headed down 71 from Pittsburgh. We had the Portobello sandwich and a burger - everything was supremely delicious, and we are not easy to impress. Ate there this evening after a recommendation from a friend. It is small, parking can be a challenge, but IT'S WORTH IT. Menu is limited, but nothing wrong with that. I had the portobella burger as I do not eat meat, along with french fries, and salad. French fries were great, done just perfectly, salad and honey mustard dressing were just great, with greek olives! We had the pretzel appetizers, and the blond brownie dessert. It was all perfect. Wheeling is a smaller town, but has its charms! If you are looking for something vegetarian, there are quite a few good options here... black bean sliders, a few salads, tempeh burgers, and sometimes a special of tomato/mozzerella flatbreads. Place is small, but I've never had a long wait. Service was easygoing and friendly. A friend of mine recommended this place to me, and I'm really glad that she did. The atmosphere is cozy and there's adequate seating for small parties, but don't expect to be able to fit larger groups here. I started off my meal with poutine fries, which were standard. I selected the Gouda burger for my entree accompanied with a balsamic side salad and thoroughly enjoyed the cheesiness. The patty was cooked medium well per request and did not disappoint. The burger itself was a little small for my liking, however. I ended the night with a Blondie brownie Sunday (which tasted as good as it sounds) and promptly passed out from hyperglycemia. read more

This locally owned restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with friendly service and great food. You can tell everything is prepared fresh. The burgers are outstanding (which I'm sure you have heard), but even the salad and fries are amazing! Krista (I think that was her name) was a great server too. The only problem I have is the lack of parking and limited beer selection (I don't drink wine, so I couldn't tell you about that). One of the other servers (I didn't catch her name, but she was tall and skinny) was also somewhat rude. She wasn't necessarily rude to us or her guests, but I could see the way that she was treating her coworkers, so I am glad she wasn't our server. There also wasn't a manager around when the table next to us asked for one. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to friends though! read more

The last two times I've been here, they screwed up our order. I will happily keep going back. This may sound contradictory, but here is the thing - these folks genuinely care about making customers happy and making things right. I'm solidly and proudly on my way to becoming a "grumpy old man" (heck, the alternative is much worse!). I think my other reviews show that I have high expectations and I'm a "tough grader". But, I also understand that mistakes can happen. These folks bend over backwards to take care of whatever happened and make sure the customer leaves satisfied. This is a small place, so they still have that personal touch that often gets lost when you go to one of the big box franchises. By the way, the food is excellent. I think it's fair to say they have the best burgers in a 60 mile radius. My personal favorite is the pub burger with the pub cheese, onion straws, and mustard. If you get French fries, make sure to get gravy instead of ketchup. Lastly, don't forget dessert! The cupcakes are just fantastic. read more

Avenue Eats is life changing. Once you go there you will be spoiled and all other burgers will just be second best. This place is cozy/ funky/ homey /eclectic all at the same time. The burgers are the stars, but it is Vegan friendly as well. Sample multiple appetizers, because they are all crazy good! The Berry BBQ wings recipie was obiviously made by Angels.
