Fish sandwich on a bun has two fillets
    Jason J.

Local family fish market and restaurant in the old downtown. Staff is friendly and helpful in a casual atmosphere. Food is good and homemade. You can get the fish sandwich on a bun or traditional white bread. The alligator soup is more like a vegetable soup with some alligator in it. It was good but couldn't really taste the alligator. There are two different lines with two different menus. Standard line is quick and the specially line may take up to 15 minutes to prepare. Also, you want to order things from both menus, you have to wait in each individual line and pay separately (although the lines are right next to each other and the cash registers are right next to each other), not sure why.

Stopped at Coleman's Fish Market to grab lunch on my way from Cleveland to West Virginia. Coleman's is located inside Central Market, which has a couple of other food related businesses. Coleman's is both a full service fish market and a fish restaurant. You order and pickup your food and there are tables to eat in the market area. The menu is what you would expect, fish and some seafood, fried or broiled in various forms. I ordered the Canadian white fish sandwich and the oyster stew. Food took a little while to come up; once the order is ready you receive it packed to go. The fish sandwich was 3 good sized pieces of fresh fish, breaded and fried served on pieces of commercial white bread, no tarter sauce of other accoutrements. The fish itself was excellent, very mild and flakey, well cooked and a generous portion, I would have liked the option of some kind of sauce and better bread or bun. I also would have preferred either a batter coating or some kind of more interesting breading to add more flavor. The oyster stew was also a generous serving of boiled oysters in a very thin oyster broth. The broth had good flavor but had a very simple flavor profile. The oysters were fresh and tasty. Overall a good value for the price. Coleman's does a nice job of providing good value, simple fish and seafood items in a casual atmosphere. Flavors were good if a bit simple and straightforward; personally, I prefer a bit more diverse flavor, but it is hard to fault them from what they do. Great place to grab some well prepared fish and seafood if you are in the area, but probably not worth a special trip.

Visited this shop while in the area on Christmas Eve. It is a great place and in a cute part of Wheeling! We visited later in the afternoon on Christmas Eve, so they were out of a lot of items. However, what we did get was superb. We ate two of the fish sandwiches, wedge fries, and the pub fries. Everything was so good! Will definitely visit next time we are in the Wheeling area to try more of the menu. There is indoor seating just outside of the restaurant that is shared with the other businesses in the Market space.

Even though I had just eaten lunch, I was still able to scarf down one of these bad boys. It was one of the best fish sandwiches I've ever had and the accompanying coleslaw was great too.

Absolutely must stop when you're in Wheeling. I got their fish sandwich and a cup of Alligator soup and they were both amazing. The staff were really friendly and down home and the building itself is really retro and cool. Loved Coleman's and will come back again next time I'm here.

Coleman's is a sit down restaurant and a fresh fish market. The Wheeling Central Market is a historic market that has been around for a long time. I travel frequently and Coleman's is one of the best seafood locations in the country in terms of taste and value for the money. If you have been to Pike's Place Market in Seattle, Coleman's would remind you of the famous place there (I can't recall the name).

Be sure to get in the right line! We had to ask the locals where we should be standing because the line was long and no one knew where to go. It was clear who were locals and who weren't (aka the people with confused looks, like us!) We ordered from the line on the right, which is the standard menu line. I was surprised that the fish sandwich I had heard so many rave reviews about was on plain white, untoasted bread that came in a bag with one napkin and a plastic fork. And let me tell you - it was delicious. Perfectly cooked, flaky, tender, amazing breading. The best tartar sauce I've ever eaten. The thick cut fries were perfect with the sandwich. The chowder was perfectly seasoned and delicious. A place to sit may be hard to come by. So divide and conquer if possible by allowing one person to order and another to scout out a seat. This hole in the wall place is everything it's hyped up to be. I hope we get to return some day.

Coleman's Fish Market smelled heavenly. I am not a huge seafood person, and found the aroma noticing. The market is located inside the Wheeling City Centre Market. The prices were reasonable. You can purchase to go or have them cook it up fresh. It is long and narrow but there is some tables near the counter or you can dine in a large open area in the market dining area they share with the other eateries Next time here, definitely going to give into the aromas.

Needless to say we are both somewhat picky when it comes to seafood. I was somewhat skeptical when we approached, however this place was super clean, the products were well sealed, nothing freezer burnt or of low quality. My wife was impressed with the pompano, which we both like. Remember we have access to wholesalers and the quality exceeded what I can get in Columbus, Ohio. The fish were rather large as well. I resisted the urge to splurge, I got some excellent scallops that were on par with wholesale prices. They are basically selling seafood at wholesale prices. We drove home 3 hours with the product in a professional cold bag...the fish was still rock hard. Both me and my wife were impressed with the freezers they were using as they keep everything extremely cold which also preserves product. I know there is wholey's in the strip, but frack that traffic. All in all, when we come through Da Burgh, which is often this will be one of our must stops. Honestly, you're gonna do a disservice to yourself if you don't stop in for some seafood.

Wheeling seemed to be somewhere in the vicinity of our drive to Morgantown tomorrow so I decided to stay the night. Looking for a place for dinner, I stumbled upon this place on Yelp in wheeling. Little did I know what an iconic place this is. We arrived at 5:15 on a Wednesday evening bc we are getting old. A couple leaving at 5:15 made us see our future. We were fortunately seated immediately. The inside is SO CUTE. I can't get enough of it. It felt like such an authentic Italian experience. Our server was incredible. So nice, personable, helpful. We started with our beverage orders. I went with a little something off their cocktail menu the elderflower martini which, exactly as I expected, was way more like spiked juice than a "martini" but I wouldn't want it any other way. Don't think I wasn't intrigued by the fried cheese but we have been eating a fair amount of that lately so instead of offering an app, I opted for an entree (stuffed rigatoni) and a side of broccoli. GF ordered fettuccine with red clam sauce. She got a house salad and I didn't for some reason. The broccoli was seasoned wonderfully but the texture wasn't as crisp as I would have liked. The rigatoni and the house sauce was ORGASMIC. That sauce is incredible I would gladly buy it by the jar. The rigatoni were al dente pillows of creamy ricotta heaven. Spectacular. GF regarding her red clam sauce pasta, "delicious". We also ordered the tiramisu to go so stay tuned on that.
