Thorough disappointment! Ridiculously difficult to find and Sub-par food all the way around. Greasier than all hell egg rolls, tasteless hot/sour soup, dried-out teriyaki chicken, boneless ribs...they should call them boneless gristle. I haven't had food here for some years. I moved and now they are the closest. I ordered General Tso's chicken and the combination (house) lo mein, both with fried rice. It was by far the worst food I've had. So disappointed! The chicken was all the same size pieces like it was premade or frozen. Even drenched in the sauce, they were so dry and tough I couldn't eat it. The lo mein was a little better, but it and the fried rice had no taste. It's like it was all reheated. This is our go-to place for Chinese takeout. It's a small place with hardly any seating, but with great food and awesome staff. We have never had anything bad from here. We usually get vegetables Szechuan style, vegetable lo mein, and hot and sour soup. We have in the past had their general Tso's chicken, chicken with black bean sauce, shrimp lo mein, wonton soup, steamed dumplings (delicious!!), beef with broccoli, chicken chow mein, Szechuan pork, etc. My absolute favorite thing is their plain white rice though. Price charged on take out was higher than on online menu. One qt of lo mein close to $10. Shrimp was recommended. Almost all noodles which were kind of greasy (which would be ok if there were some other ingredients) . Shrimp were very mealy, or mushy, with no distinctive shrimp flavor or taste. Very very few vegetables, a few trace pieces of soggy lettuce or cabbage, and one or two 2" green onion stem pieces in the entire Qt. If you crave a greasy hangover meal this will do, but if you want even so/so take-out lo mein this is below par of your average Chinese take out In the days of covid, Chinese Buffett (which is no more) for $10 one can have had their pick, if the lo mein was bad, you had other choices for you hard earned $10. Instead stuck with a gloppy bucket of noodles at home. I love lo mein and had the craving but this was a disappointment. Not a food snob but that's why the buffett style (though sometimes looked down on) is safer, you can see what your getting. This was below what one would get at a typical buffett. Point being, I have never felt these buffett's were beneath me. I love Chinese food especially lo mein, this was a bust. read more

China Wok is not only the best Chinese food in the Ohio Valley, it is the best that I've had anywhere! As a Wheeling local, I've been eating here for many years. My wife and I regular get their sweet & sour chicken, chicken & broccoli, or chicken lo mein. The restaurant is not much to look at visually, seating is limited, and it can be hot inside during the summer, but their staff is always friendly and the food is excellent. Whenever my wife and I recommend China Wok to our out-of-town guests, everyone has always been thoroughly impressed by how great the food is and generally express that it's among the best they have ever had. read more

I'm staying here in Wheeling for work. This place is close to my hotel and is absolutely awesome. And they are quick at making the food.

Do not eat here!!! This place is horrible!! I got my takeout and went home open the dinner to see minimal chix in my dish. The crab rangoons were cold and it wasn't very good. I told the manager the next time I went in and she DID NOT CARE. They didn't have the heat turned on in the building and it was 30 degrees out. There are better places in Wheeling to get Chinese food.. don't waste your time with this place. read more

The hot and sour soup was filled with delicious fresh greens and mushrooms that had the distinctive wok hay flavor that you can only get from stir-frying at a high heat. It's the best I've had anywhere! The chicken with Chinese vegetables was also incredibly flavorful and fresh, packed with cabbage, bamboo, and celery. The broccoli in garlic sauce was tasty, though a bit sweeter than you might be used to from other restaurants. There are a few tables for dining in, although it's really set up as a takeout restaurant. I seldom post about food that I order out. I usually am just not too impressed most of the time. I guess that's because I am a fairly decent cook. Today I wanted Chinese and ordered from China Wok in the Bridge Street Plaza in Elm Grove. I ordered hot and sour soup, and Chicken with Garlic sauce. Both were FANTASTIC!!! The soup was a perfect balance of hot and sour. Full of cabbage, bean sprouts, mushrooms and tofu. Delicious. I am a meat eater but I could eat this and be totally satisfied. The Chicken with garlic sauce was superb! First of all, it was ACTUALLY chicken. The fried rice was perfect. Not one clump, each grain separated, with the right blend of add ins. The chicken was moist, and plentiful. the vegetables were plentiful and perfectly cooked. And the sauce? Let's just leave it at I would swim in it if they would let me! All this came in at under $8.00!! I ate half and will eat the rest later. What value. So if you want great chinese in elm grove, China Wok is my strong recommendation!
