    Superb iced coffee

I had the best breakfast from Avenue Cafe delivered via DoorDash while in town for work. I ordered their famous iced coffee and it was fantastic! I rarely drink iced coffee but I decided to give theirs a try. It was perfect. Not too sweet, not too strong. It was just right. I also ordered a yogurt parfait that was amazing with crunchy yummy granola!! For my entree I tried the salmon bagel sandwich. It was also delicious. They packaged everything really well too and I appreciated that. All of my food was really great and it made my long work day so much better. It was the prefect way to start my day in New Orleans!!

Stopped by for a coffee and breakfast sandwich. As we arrived we were greeted and assisted with putting in an order. We got ice coffees and a pair of sandwiches. (Mushroom Muffin Sandwich & Sausage Muffin Sandwich. It was a great breakfast.

Let me tell you a little story about this place. It's a fun and artisty little coffee spot with a decent loaded menu of snacks and lite meal options. The staff was friendly and attentive. The shop was clean each time we came here. Yup, we hit this place up 3 days in a row. Coffee was tasty and hit the spot rightly in our bellies. The delicious food was filling but didn't over deliver, leaving you with stuffed brain. Prices were reasonable and affordable. This place is cute and should be experienced if you're in the area.

When traveling, I always try and find a bagel with vegan cream cheese. It was pretty hard to find in New Orleans, but Avenue Cafe delivered with a tasty vegan breakfast sandwich and even better that it was paired with a bloody mary! The staff were all very friendly!

Avenue Cafe is a great local coffee shop. You can sit enjoy your food an people watch or grab and go. They offer an nice selection of breakfast items and pastries. I give them bonus points for offering a vegan bagel sandwich that is very tasty! Pro tip: there is only one restroom so if seeing folks line up to use the facilities is annoying to you, don't sit near the coffee station because you will have a prime seat to anxious folks doing the pee-pee dance.

So, the Wife and I decided to try this local spot about two minutes from our hotel. I have found myself amazed by establishments here in New Orleans that don't look like much from the outside but are gems on the inside. This establishment is no different. It is very clean and laid-back, and the staff is very friendly. We had the vegan bagel sandwiches, and they were awesome. I had the Chai Tea with Oak Milk and while it was pretty good it could have been a little hotter. We will visit again whenever we are in the Crescent City. Eat, Drink, and Be Merry, my Friends!!

Updated review: I frequent this place somewhat often, but I do not like that the tip option on the card machine has changed. It does not let you do a custom tip and forces you to do 15% + or no tip. I try to bring cash with me but I don't always have that on hand. As much as I would love to tip 15-25% to the staff- I can't afford that (especially coming from food & beverage myself.) It is not full service so 15-25% is a lot when you're ordering more than just a drip coffee. I LOVE the granola fruit bowl here, and the coffee dressing station is the BEST. Latte only comes in one size which is kind of annoying when you have people ordering who don't understand coffee in america is super sized. My brother loves the croissant sand-which, and chai tea. All in all, once you find what you like and bring cash to tip - it's a pretty good time.

The stories about the line are true: it was mid morning on a Sunday, and there was definitely a line, but we put in for a table for three and were seated within 20 minutes. First up was a bloody mary, the canonical brunch beverage, and it was a winner. Dressed with some nice veggies in handled jar, it was delicious and refreshing. As for the food, I was torn between a couple of the benedicts, so I ended up combining and getting crab cake and andouille sausage, both on the same croissant. It was delicious if a bit much; I ended up taking half to go. The crab cake was substantial in size, with a good crab to cake ratio, and the sauce which was touted to be excellent, certainly was. This was a very tasty breakfast. The decor was very cute and bright, and our server had a great smile and proper NOLA accent, tending to all of our needs with aplomb. It was a great experience, and one I'd do again for sure.

There was a line when we arrived, but we liked how the host walked the line asking how many people in your party in case they were able to seat people regardless of your position in line. We were seated pretty quickly, our server was great. She came over with a big smile, very mild mannered, but attentive. We ordered our meals, which came out quickly. Omelet for my husband, grits bowl for me. The grits have smoked gouda. The grits bowl is if you have a big appetite because it is big! My husband enjoyed his shrimp and crab Omelet, but he did mention that he couldn't really taste or see much crab, but it was tasty. The grits bowl has a lot of sautéed veggies so if that's not your thing say no veggies or light veggies. I had one of the fresh juices, the Ginger Sun, I believe that's the name. Oh my!!! It was so good and honestly I wasn't feeling my best when I arrived and after drinking the juice my body really started feeling better. I wasn't able to eat all my food, but I can say that juice was the highlight of it for me. The restaurant was clean and I love the long bench with the pillows that line the wall. Also, they have 2 sides, the other side is for to go I believe and its for tacos/quesadillas, etc...

Both were outstanding. The Bananas Foster French Toast was rich, indulgent, and packed with flavor without being overwhelmingly sweet. The bananas and sauce were the perfect complement to the French toast, making it feel like a New Orleans dessert and breakfast all in one. The Boudin Breakfast Biscuit was equally impressive. The biscuit was fresh and flaky, and the boudin added a delicious Cajun flavor that set it apart from a typical breakfast sausage. Every bite was savory, satisfying, and uniquely Louisiana. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was welcoming, and it's easy to see why Surrey's has such a loyal following. If you're visiting New Orleans and looking for a memorable breakfast, put this place on your list. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town.
