I had a cortado and a breakfast burrito, both were great-- and I always appreciate when a cafe has not just coffee but also food. I am a local tour owner and operator here in New Orleans, and as anyone from this city knows, hospitality is not just a tradition -- it's a way of life. That's why I was truly disheartened by the experience I had at your establishment this morning, between 8:30 and 9:00 AM. Upon entering, I greeted the staff with a warm "Good morning" -- something that is customary and expected here. To my surprise, one of your chefs looked me directly in the eye and deliberately turned his head without a word. This dismissive behavior happened right in front of my guests, who were visiting and looking to experience the authentic warmth and spirit of New Orleans. I felt compelled to correct him on the spot, because I take pride in setting an example of how we treat people in our city. Unfortunately, the chef never acknowledged the issue or offered an apology. He simply stood there, fully aware of the impact his actions had on not only me, but also on the guests I brought in. As someone who works hard to promote local businesses through tourism, I know firsthand how much reviews and word-of-mouth matter -- especially in the hospitality industry. Moments like this can seriously damage the reputation of a business, and frankly, this kind of behavior is unacceptable in a city known for its southern charm and welcoming spirit. I'm sharing this not out of malice, but out of care. I hope this feedback reaches the owner or management, and that some serious attention is given to staff training and guest interaction. I went as far as to ask him what his problem was bc he was being so rude and he responded "sorry you feel that way". I live in the neighborhood. I don't go to cafes nearly as often as I should, let alone this one. But I've started to pop by more often because their food is low-key one of the cheapest and tastiest breakfast options in the neighborhood. Grits, burritos, potatoes, bagels. Their coffee is really good, plus they always have good doughnuts. The people who work here are cool. There's a sort of a Bohemian, 1970s cafe vibe going on both inside and out. There's usually a clothing rack with items for sale from a local vendor. I wouldn't be surprised if I walked in to the sounds of a slightly off-kilter personality playing acoustic guitar with a tip jar, though that's never been the case. It's definitely not a tourist place. In fact, there have been multiple occasions where I felt like I got out of here just in time before I had to interact with someone completely unhinged. But that's par for the course in New Orleans, baby. In that respect, this is a very good New Orleans place. read more

Feeling lucky this was the first meal of my trip to Nola. Great breakfast options including bagels, burritos, breakfast sandwiches and my favorite, grit bowls. For $5.50, I couldn't turn it town. Despite inflation it seems the prices have seemed steady over the year but you couldn't tell by quality - the food was made with love. The sautéed onions and peppers, the best cheese grits I've had in a long time. All milk and cream types including oat milk available at the bar. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating in their massive yard. Check out their vintage rack, really nice variety of stuff at a great price and profits go to charity. Great disposition of the gentleman on the other side of the counter as he takes & fills your order. Food items are delivered to your table if it requires a wait. There's a self serve area for tweak your coffee or other items. Artwork on the walls, some for sale, adorn the place for a eccentric, mellow yellow kinda vibe. Narrow two seating tables allow for maximizing of space. Although the space is intimate, it works. Some people sit outside in the front, great view of the street & all things Marigny/Bywater... Some people sit outside on the back patio... Then others take their items to go... Anyhow you do it, it works. Free WiFi is way cool. A water jug & cups sit out for thirst quenching breaks as needed. I found the pricing to be fair as well. There's a little lot off to the side, idk if it's for tenants or the coffee shop, either way, I suggest street parking. Summertime hours means closing early, like 5ish. And there's a five dollar minimum on credit card transactions. read more

I went here twice when I was in town because the location was very convenient to where I was heading. The shop is so tiny, but comfortable with tables and enough room to sit and talk or work. The coffee is good. It's strong and flavorful. I had my espresso with condensed milk, which was a nice treat. They have some bagels, but they aren't really fresh. The shop is small but quaint and cute. The service was excellent. The granola was awesome and the coffee was just ok. I ordered a large Americano which comes with two shots and I ordered 2 additional shots, it was piping hot and truly ok...but I love for my first sip of coffee to make me close my eyes, smell and savor it. Sadly that didn't happen with cup but I'll give it another try! The owner contacted me right after I posted my initial review through Yelp and asked me to remove my "bad" review, saying that they were a local shop catering to neighborhood and so on. I explained to him that my review wasn't negative and that i gave honest feedback and that I indicated I would give their coffee another try right in my review. What I left unsaid at the time was it "is now my neighborhood"...it was one of the first places I went the day after moving here. The owners email was a complete turnoff! It certainly lacked what drew me to the city and what I've experienced from other places here...that good ole southern hospitality. I went on to read responses made by the owner's wife to folks that actually gave poor reviews -- in one she cussed someone out. Here's the thing, if you can't take constructive feedback and utilize it to improve what folks are saying about your services, then you're probably not going to stay in business. *Oh Saint Coffee, I should be offering prayers, but instead I offer praise* With it being but a (extra dark roast) coffee bean's throw from my house + those friendly, speedy baristas (including one of my favorites, formerly from Orange Couch), tasty cold brew, not one but two non dairy milk options *and* vegan offerings for lunch and treats (haven't tried these yet), Saint Coffee is quickly becoming my go-to for coffee on the go. I wouldn't mind spending more time in there, though I haven't really been dwelling at coffee shops when I'm in town, probably because it's where I spend most of my days when traveling for work. It's small/cozy inside, but they have a really nice side patio, too, though on nice days it may be hard to get that coveted outdoor seating! I love all the local art they have going on in there and right now there's some interesting jewelry, too. This place really offers up that quintessential Marigny/St. Roch/St. Claude neighborhood feel. Full disclosure: I may have an extra soft spot for Saint Coffee because it reminds me an awful lot of my former business, The Lucky Cat, when it was more of a coffeehouse and less of a bar/club. read more

St. Coffee is a lovely little coffee shop on St. Claude with good drinks and friendly baristas. This place is FUNKY with a capital FUNKY. The inside has so much wood that you might mistake it for a (funky) cabin. The low relatively low ceiling doesn't feel claustrophobic - it hugs you like a nest. There are giant (funky) murals that blend folk art with graffiti stylings that are positively beautiful. I've only had the iced coffee and it was good, albeit inconsistent in strength. Give it a taste to evaluate its strength before dumping tons of milk in and you'll be good to go. The coffee beans are from (funky) Portland, not Coffee Roasters of New Orleans. That's a welcome change since practically all New Orleans coffee shops get their beans from that one (un-funky) roaster. St. Coffee seems to draw a tight knit, local crowd of (funky) individuals who have all been exceedingly nice, even when I roll up looking all too J Crew. I was also pleased to see the baristas offer the same hospitality to people walking in to buy a cup of hot coffee with a handful of change as those buying a triple extra dry soy cappuccino. WIFI tip: don't connect to the unprotected "guest" wireless, instead ask for the (funky) password to the protected one. read more

On my first visit to Saint Coffee I scan the menu, then approach the counter to order my favorite drink, a caramel macchiato. Saint Coffee has both machiatos and flavored syrups on the menu, so I thought they could accommodate the request. When I ask for my drink I am told by the clerk "we do not make those Starbucks drinks." The clerk then points to a small framed picture of a saint, adjacent to the register, and says "You see, this is St Coffee." Thoroughly confused, I settle for a regular macchiato. My girlfriend, who accompanied me, orders a bagel. Strangely, the clerk asks us if there are any bagels left, gesturing to a metal container that she herself can see. There aren't any there, but another clerk points out that there are bagels behind the counter. The clerk assisting us looks at the bagels, pauses, and turns to tell us "We aren't doing bagels right now." I pay, and tip generously, as a courtesy of it being my first time. Then we wait on my machiato for 15 mins, all the while a clerk wrongly calls out that my "caramel machiato" is almost ready. My machiato tasted remarkable, although it had an unusual amount of grounds. Personally, I find the establishment, or perhaps its employees, to be pretentious. I believe I was given bad service because the clerk assisting me formed an opinion of me. Another small coffee shops that has flavored syrups, MonkeyMonkey, has no issue accommodating a caramel machiato. read more

I love this place. Their outdoor patio is an awesome place to bring your dog or have a nice breakfast! They had a great americano, which was perfect for the rainy day. Their donuts & Apple fritter were also very good. I would like to come back to try other breakfast items, because they all looked & sounded good, plus they were very reasonably priced. It's hard to find good espresso these days. Seems like the trend is moving towards commercialized, higher-priced coffee that is very light. I was certainly impressed by the espresso from this place. People that think whatever they like is fine for everybody else do not deserve my business. Only getting a 2 star because the coffee is good. However, me and my girlfriend walked in and everyone stared at us, we are black and instantly felt singled out. No one even greeted us, when the barista walked up to me she just stared, I had to speak first. Told her it was our first time there and all she did was list the flavors, did not mention any favorites of the shop or anything, customer service was lacking. Also forgot to mention, we were only greeted 2 minutes after she finished having a conversation with coworkers. We got our coffee and were still not acknowledged by saying "thanks come see us again" for them to be supportive of trans and queer lives, they sure did not seem supportive of black queer people. Did not feel welcomed at all. If you're black and decide to go there, don't. But if you do, I hope you have a good experience. It's 2023, almost 2024 damn it, please stop being weird.
