This place was alright... I think the atmosphere and the weird service took away from the quality drink I had. I got a mango smoothie, which was delicious. But it was partly made and cashiered by the owner's daughter, who couldn't have been more than 8 or 9. (I also saw her sneeze while walking back into the ktichen area and she didn't cover her mouth.) The place was cute, but kind of cramped in spots, although the window seats were nice and private. All in all, I might try this place again, but it wouldn't upset me if I didn't. read more

Avenue Brew is a toxic wasteland of potential. My few experiences at Avenue Brew have been for the Highlander Grogg and the Jeni's ice cream. I love both of those things, but the service is so bad that it is not worth enduring the environment any longer. Here is my main problem with Avenue Brew: If you do not pay with cash, you WILL be lectured by the staff about how inconsiderate it is for you to pay with a credit card. At first, this is mildly annoying, but it happens EVERY TIME using a VISA card. I have suggested instituting a credit card minimum like other coffee shops have, but they insist they do not want to have a minimum . . as it would be bad for their customers. In actuality, badgering customers in front of other patrons about their method of payment is BAD BUSINESS. The badgering has ranged from a slight suggestion to bring cash, to an outright LECTURE, yelling about how much it hurts the business and attempting to embarrass customers in front of other patrons. **IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO PAY THE CARD FEES AS A SMALL BUSINESS, DO NOT OFFER THE SERVICE TO PAY WITH CREDIT CARD. IF YOU ARE THAT PASSIONATE ABOUT PEOPLE PAYING WITH CASH, YOU COULD ALWAYS CHARGE A CREDIT CARD MINIMUM . . . .BUT PLEASE, DO NOT BADGER THE CUSTOMERS AND LECTURE THEM TO BRING CASH TO YOUR STORE** I also do not like that there are signs all around the store telling you what to do. For example, there are signs in the Men's restroom telling you to flush the toilet, or Christine will find you. POINTLESS! There are signs above the napkins telling you not to take more than two, or Christine will find you . . . which seems kitschy and funny at first, until you realize that Christine probably will find you, and LECTURE you, the same way she does if you pay with a credit card. Overall . . . . I like the Highlander Grogg that I get each time, and it is usually made fresh for me which is a plus . The management makes the experience so terrible that I don't feel comfortable inviting my coworkers to come with me in fear that they will pay with VISA, or take 2+ napkins. . . . and if they did. . . GUARANTEED there would be a scene made. Avenue Brew is not worth the hassle. read more

We went Sunday morning after 8am mass, so it was around 9:30 or thereabouts. Lady running the counter was above friendly and very personable. My kids got iced coffee/chocolate drinks and I thought they were a bit too icy and light on the flavor. My husband loved his veggie omelet, though. However...our food came out 10 minutes after my husband's, so we basically sat there and watched him eat. My side of goetta was ICE cold. Not just like it got cold sitting out, but refrigerated cold. I ordered walnuts on my french toast and had to remind the waitress about them. The french toast itself was nothing remarkable....texas toast like it said on the menu, with syrup and it was just fine. The kids liked their food, and their goetta was hot, so not sure what happened there. You are supposed to pay for coffee refills, and I came prepared to the counter but she let me refill for free x 1, which I appreciated. I probably won't go back, because it takes a while to get there and I wasn't all that impressed for the money. Not that the food was bad....it wasn't. But the very staggered food delivery, cold meat, and average food just didn't make me want to go back. Bellevue Bistro across the street is much better....but they were super crowded by the time we got there, which is how we ended up here. read more

I stopped in here while visiting from out of town and really liked how comfortable this place feels. I didn't get food, but the food that I did see looked good. Their pastry case was enticing, but nothing had prices and the barista seemed annoyed when I asked how much the muffins were. Ordering my cafe au lait was also unnecessarily complicated and the barista's unfriendliness continued which is what keeps this from a 5 star rating. Two of my friends from out of town and I were recently wandering around Bellevue and decided to stop into Avenue Brew for a quick bite to eat and coffee. I had never heard anything about Avenue Brew nor read any reviews on it, so I went in with no expectations, high or low. This place has the potential to be really awesome, but it fell short for me. I'll start with the positives: Friendly service, extremely wallet-friendly, large menu, offers customer loyalty cards (buy 10, get one free kind of thing), a lot of seating, and free wifi. The negatives? Everything we ordered was mediocre. The iced tea was very watered down, the coffee was just ok, and the sandwiches we ordered didn't taste like much (lots of hot sauce required). My friend's sandwich had the piece of paper from the cheese grilled into it, which was pretty unsettling. If I'm in the area, I might stop back for a quick drink or snack, but I probably won't be going out of my way to pop in. This isn't a bad place, but there are other coffee shops I'd prefer to frequent. read more

Awesome little independent Mom n' Pop coffee shop. Dogs welcome at the few outside tables. Great coffees, with a good selection of home made breakfast and lunch items. AMAZING chocolate chip muffins. Live music usually first Friday of the month for Shop Bellevue. They are now open 7 days a week. GOOD NEWS! The patio will soon be open and they are working on a liquor license. Larry and Christine give their shops tons of personality. They are very connected and caring of their Bellevue community neighbors. I consider Christine my barista and personal therapist! The chocolate chip muffins are irresistible and if you are lucky enough to get one, do it. They often sell out the entire tray to a certain local news personality. read more

When you step in to this place, you feel like you are at home. Christine (owner) and her staff always greet you with a welcoming smile and hello. The food is comfort food made with love, and a great selection of coffee. Craft beers for the later crowd are always rotating, and if you haven't made it down for a night of music you are missing out. Evenings are laid back and family friendly. I bring my kids down for dinner and music with their regular group The Goodle Boys. This is a staple family night out during the summer. Since moving to Bellevue 4 months ago this is the one place I frequent the most. They have a wide variety of coffee and tea. They even have hot organic green tea, but my favorite is the nitro coffee. They have an adequate menu including pastries and desserts all made in the house. I typically have the goetta egg and cheese sandwich but this weekend I opted for the biscuit and gravy with two eggs. The food is always delicious. Sometimes the wait can be long when they are busy but you can call ahead and pick it up. The atmosphere is cozy and everyone is always friendly. My only complaint happened yesterday when I brought in my 74 year old mom and stepdad for breakfast. My mom ordered her oatmeal with the toppings on the side including milk. When she received the oatmeal it had not been cooked. It was a misunderstanding and because my mom said she wanted the milk on the side they thought she didn't want them to cook the oatmeal in the milk as they normally would. It's possible they could have tried to clarify this while she was ordering and her response wasn't clear. Not sure, I didn't hear it even though I was standing right there. It was loud and people were waiting in line behind us. So my issue isn't the mix up. My issue is when the owner came out, whom I have met before, and tried to clear up the situation. She was frustrated and it was obvious. She spoke to my 74 year old mom with her hands and an attitude. She said she was here to make her happy. That is NOT what is sounded like to me. She was quite rude. My mom was respectful and tried explain what she ordered. My mom's feelings were hurt. Not a great first impression and my mom will likely not want to come back. This is not good for me because I love this place and wanted to share many more meals here with her in my neighborhood that I'll likely live for many years to come. I understand the owner works her ass off. I have seen her there every time I have been in there. And you never know what is going on in someone's life. What they are dealing with that day. So while I understand and will absolutely be back I also think we should have a little more patience, kindness and understanding for our elderly. read more

We absolutely love this little coffee shop! The owners are always kind and know their products well. We've lunched here as well as just stopped by for a cup of tea/coffee. We often have our 1 year old with us and it's a very family-friendly atmosphere. Recently they added a bar onto the back of the other side but we've not yet visited the new addition. A one year old and a bar do not mix! I've never ordered anything I regret, but I have found some of their specialty drinks a bit on the sweet side for my liking. read more

I stopped in on a Friday morning for a latte. Atmosphere was great. Comfortable, relaxing. Latte was good. The only thing I would like to see different is the payment process. After swiping my card, a screen with options for a tip popped up,(very 'in your face' almost threatening) and I felt obligated to tip even though the only service carried out was making a cup of coffee. I could be wrong, but I thought a tip was earned because of great service and it's hard to know that at the start. I could have chosen no tip but I didn't want to look like a schmuck, being that the owner or worker was standing right there watching me complete the transaction.. Sorry Avenue Brew. Been several times with bad experiences. I wanted to like you. I love coffee shops especially little local ones. First time I went there I ordered an omelette, it was just me and two other customers, not sure either one ordered food. The omelette took very long and came out and it was not good, and not what I ordered. Ate it anyway, whatever. Came in again and it was really hectic, coffee just ok but again took forever! Last time I came in I walked in the door and a woman working screamed "WE ARE CLOSED" and she looked extremely annoyed. Very rude. It was a saturday.. checked my phone and it said 4:02, the door was opened and there was no closed sign. I guess they close at 4, didn't check the hours since no one closes at 4 on saturday!! Avenue Brew is a nice little coffee house with good drinks and affordable prices. The staff is nice and the owner is usually on site. The seating is small and uncomfortable, the atmosphere is great, a lot of regulars come in and everyone is friendly. The choice of music seems to always be classic rock, I would prefer a change now and then. The coffees are all flavored or blended, I have not seen a single origin coffee. Overall this place is worth a stop whenever you are passing by. read more

This place has positives and negatives. 1. Good quality coffee and espresso beans. Local coffee shops generally seem to use espresso beans with a distinct, not-so-good bite. Avenue Brew's beans are good. 2. Bad quality syrups. I've worked in coffee shops and know that flavored syrups can be quite expensive. However, if you don't shell out the money for a quality syrup then you don't get a good flavor. Skip the foo foo drinks at Avenue Brew because their syrups stink. 3. Atmosphere: wish this was the type of place I could hang out, drink coffee and work on the laptop. The decor is hodge-podge and more like a tacky home than a coffee shop. Most of the seating is tiny & uncomfortable. Also, there's usually some kind of distractingly bad music being played like disco. 4. Awesome baked goods! Everything I've tried in the sweets department has been fresh & very tasty. 5. Service: very pleasant and enthusiastic 6. Health Dept code violations!!!! Seriously. Ew. Anyone who's ever worked in food service or just has common sense knows that you don't eat in front of customers and you certainly don't stuff morsels of food between your lips AS you're making someone's coffee drink! The OWNER actually ate the whole time she made my drink. And by eat I mean tiny bites of candy or something which required that she touch her lips every time she put something in her mouth. Also, they serve lunch there too and while my drink was being made she allowed an older girl plus a child to stand behind the counter eating the potato chips they serve with lunch. Basically these two people were jamming their hands into a big communal box of husman's or whatever, sticking the chips in their mouths, licking their fingers and then going back to the communal box for more. I really want to support my local business from my town but Avenue Brew makes it hard. Stopped by today, girl working the counter wasn't friendly and wasn't listening to what I said. I had to repeat my order 3 times. Than I realize my Small Skinny Caramel Latte is more money than a large Caramel Machiatto is. When I asked the girl working about this she told me yeah it makes no since the Machiatto has more things in it. $4 for a small Caramel Latte is ridiculous. read more
