Curried Chicken
Harshika J.

Cute hole in the wall comfort food joint in Mill Valley, perfect for a spot after a hike in the nearby trails. Food is served in steel plates just like India. The menu is limited - but offers a lot with the base combination of rice and chickpea curry. Highly recommended spot for vegetarians, and non vegetarians can add meats on the base rice and chickpea rice plate or burrito. Cash only, so be prepared to carry approx $20-25/pp.

Mustard Green Spinach Tofu Burrito

Came here after a long hike at Mt Tam, and wow the food here really hits the spot! My friend has been here a couple of times before and recommended I try the mustard green tofu burrito. There is a blend of so many flavors inside: the mustard greens, tofu, fruit chutney, rice, pickled carrot, etc. Each bite is savory, rich, and fulfilling. The clever usage of Indian bread around to hold it all together is such a good decision/idea! I've had Indian Pizza before, but haven't ever had an Indian burrito. Avatars Restaurant does just the right twist on a classic staple! Low key going to plan future hikes to Mt Tam just so I can come back here to try more of the burritos and the plates. Heads up: cash or Venmo only! And the seating inside is limited, but creates a nice cozy vibe. Service was quick, and you could tell from the interactions with the customers that this place is a beloved hometown classic as well as a worthwhile stop for those passing through.

Yummy burritos with an Indian cuisine twist. Yes, they offer the same meals in plates instead of burritos as well, but I got the burrito! They only accept cash or Venmo, no credit card! Got the curried pumpkin burrito with curried lamb and a curried lamb burrito. I was not expecting ground lamb for the meat, I was hoping it would be shredded lamb at least. However, the curry did not disappoint, lots of flavor and good portion of meat. I felt the burrito was missing something, like a fresh flavor or crunch. While eating the burrito, I thought it would be great to have some type of crunch like fresh or pickled radish inside. To my surprise, there were some pickled carrots way at the bottom of the burrito, for both burritos. Also, would have been great to have some fresh herbs or a cream sauce to go with the burrito, that would make it 5 stars for me! Overall, a tasty burrito, but could use an upgrade and more even portion of ingredients inside the burrito!

open face chicken tikka burrito

Food was delicious. I had a lovely open faced chicken tikka masala burrito. The ambiance inside is just ok. We sat outside on a picnic table but they didn't have any heaters.

We tried the curry lamb burrito, curry lamb burrito with sweet potato, the roasted eggplant burrito, and the blackened veggie burrito with salmon. All of the burritos were similar in profile: flavorful but mostly one-note. The lamb was tender. The burritos had a lot of rice which hides the other ingredients a bit. The fruit chutney was a nice addition in terms of sweetness and texture variation. But the burritos needed yogurt (we didn't see any) and cilantro or something to offset the singular curry taste.

We asked for chicken tikka masala for our kids. They provided chicken that appeared not fully cooked with no sauce.

Curry chicken in the burrito was dry. Otherwise flavor was good. Pumpkin was good. Food came out quick. Would give this place a second chance.

We sat outside with our dog, and enjoyed hot chai, papadum, carried chicken with vegetable and curried lamb with smoked eggplant. The plates were beautiful, as well as delicious and a little spicy. It was just the right amount to eat without having to bring a cooler and take food home. Highly recommend the food, friendly woman, and choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Hope they get a larger place someday since things were hopping and they appear to be doing well.

Avatar's is probably one of the best restaurants I've visited in the bay area since a long time. If anyone is visiting Sausalito/Marin County, this is a must visit - I cannot stress enough! It is a quaint joint very close to the Sausalito boardwalk. We were hosted by Mr Ashok who was very excited to know that we are vegetarians and offered to decide what we would like the most and we loved the whole spread! The whole spread was vegan, and very light yet flavorful- Saag tofu was actually made with leaves of sweet potato plant which was mind blowing. The enchiladas had a taro filling, and were topped with curry sauce which had an amazing balance of flavors The ravioli was stuffed with tofu and methi, and the sauce was nice and tangy. We were extremely happy with the personal attention we got, and since the restaurant wasn't super crowded, we were served pretty fast.

Tasty vegetarian options! Good service. Not a whole lot of seating so I'd recommend not going at peak hours

I was in Mill Vally area and was craving for Tandoori chicken so decided to try Prabh…read more Tandoori chicken: Yummy !! I highly recommend this dish. Very flavourful. Comes on sizzling plate which gives amazing Smokey flavour. Side green chutney is great and compliments very well. I also got yellow Daal. This was simple daal with some spicy tadka. I loved it. It was definitely spicy. We also got assorted naan basket in which we loved onion kulcha and garlic naan. We decided to get simple chicken curry. It was ok. It's funny how other yelpers are finding food too spicy, as an Indian I thought it's less spicy . Ambience and service were nice too. Overall good place !!

Soft, flavorful, and really well made. * Basil Garlic Naan - good balance of flavor, enjoyable. * Plain Parantha - just okay, a bit on the dry side. Last time we ordered dal makhani, and it wasn't what you expect from a restaurant-style dal makhani. We actually had to add tadka at home just to make it edible. Still, we decided to give the restaurant another try with a different item from the menu. Unfortunately, the gobi manchurian turned out even worse than the dal. At least the dal was still edible, but with the gobi manchurian, I don't know what went wrong. Maybe it was too much soy sauce, vinegar, or just too many sauces altogether--but the only thing we could taste was a harsh tanginess, blackish color, and the coating was too thick. I'm sorry to say, but it's something you could make better at home. There was no real flavor of gobi at all, just an overpowering sauce and thick coating. It was really disappointing because we hoped for a better experience this time, but sadly, it fell short again.
