Came here with some friends after a hike and ordered the Chicken Curry Burrito. It was okay, and probably could've used a bit more spice/flavor. Unfortunately it gave both me and my friend pretty terrible upset stomachs afterwards. Our other friend got the lamb burrito and he had no issues, so hopefully was just a one off, but I probably wouldn't come back here. read more

My wife and I were a little hangry after a nice hike, and finding two restaurants closed that said they were open on their website (updating your hours cannot be that hard!). Fortunately this place was right next door to one of them. The smell drew us in. Mixed Veggie Burrito: 3.5/5. I enjoyed having a burrito encased in Indian bread and the veggies had a nice flavor. Overall it was "pretty good", but I would like to try other things in the menu. The woman behind the counter was very nice, and while there are not a lot of tables there, the street outside the restaurant is pretty quiet, which makes for some nice outdoor dining. read more

Such flavorful food with great quality ingredients Seating both inside and outside Fairly fast service considering there are 1-2 in the kitchen and they are taking multiple orders and that the kitchen is small Variety of options, vegan friendly Only take cash read more

Interesting concept! The food was good and the service very friendly! I thought the Punjabi Enchilada was a fun idea and quite enjoyed it. There was a lipstick stain on my glass and a hair in the curry though.. read more

Going to look past the cash only part since a lot of other reviews have already mentioned. Got the chicken curry "burrito". It was extremely good. Would come back again if I'm ever in Mill Valley read more

The wraps all have rice, chana (garbanzo beans) and veggies wrapped inside a roti. There are several options to add either extra vegetables or meats - we added smoked eggplant. The wrap was delicious - it really hit the spot. It was seasoned and spiced very well and that made all the difference. I've had Indian burritos before and they've generally been either too bland or filled with too much rice. This one was well balanced, with great flavors and bold spices. read more

My wife and I are big fans of this place. I love the jerk chicken burrito while my wife favors either the pumpkin curry or smoked eggplant burrito. The woman at the counter may seem severe at first, but she is actually a sweetheart. Moreover, it feels good to support Avatar's because they make such a positive contribution to the community. Great food, great people. A delightful alternative to standard fast food. read more

Kind people and convenient setting. However, the amount of meat and vegetables should both be increased substantially to be called a "plate" at $15 - a sprinkle of lettuce and radish, and a sprinkle of meat, topped over a bunch of sauce, rice, and a few garbanzo beans does not warrant a "$15+ plate." Situated on a nice quiet street. read more

Always excellent. I've been going here for 25 years. One of my favorites is the Punjabi burrito with veggie and salmon. The level of spice and vibrant flavor make it just perfect. Thank you for being there all these years! read more

Is this place connected to the other avatar's in Sausalito? If so, I will not be going there. Food was so subpar! And the woman makes you feel like she's doing you a favor. What a turn off in both the food and service. Would NOT recommend. If your tastebuds are that of an old Caucasian, then perhaps the food may suffice, but then you would not tolerate the glum looking face making your food.. read more

Fantastic vegetarian burritos- we tried green mustard aka saag burrito and blackened vegetables (charred essentially) and both tasted really good. Charred veggie one was a little oily while chai tasted more like Starbucks chai latte. Must try for Indian food lovers. read more

My significant other and I were stopping by after a lengthy and arduous hike closeby. We both love indian food and were stoked to try this fusion. We both ordered and shared the curried lamb and curried chicken. When the food arrived, we both took a few bites and were surprised that it was all undercooked. The rice and potatoes were extremely raw and felt it was boiled for likely a few minutes max. We both ate the entire thing out of need to refuel but appalled this place has quite the high reviews. This was a first to eat outright raw food. We will definitely not return to this place again. I was very surprised to see the popularity of this place. read more

Punjabi Mexican fusion didn't feel like a great combo but once I tasted the food, I realized the flavors are still pretty authentic. To their benefit the Aunty who makes the food there retains a lot of the flavor but still makes it healthy. The portions disappointed a few of the folks but my spinach tofu hit the spot! The vegetarian rice plate was a bit meh. read more

What a fantastic idea: Indian Burrito. I asked the owner how long the restaurant has been around: 25 years! Wow. And here I never knew this gem was in Mill Valley. First off, they had options of mango, plain or Rose lassi . I tried the Rose lassi, and it was superb! Light, ephemeral after taste of rose. I recommend it. For lunch I tried the Curry pumpkin curry chicken burrito. Imagine wrapped in whole wheat Indian bread: Curried garbanzo beans Basmati rice, Fresh herb salsa, Chutney, Carrot pickle, and Tamarind sauce. The combination of flavors was amazing, and I look forward to trying more of their menu. They also had rice plates (not just Indian burritos), so if you're in the mood for a plate instead of a wrap, you can have that too. I look forward to going to Avatar again. read more

Was in the area and stopped by to pick up some food on my way home. Unfortunately I was having issues with my card but the lady working the counter was so so sweet and understanding. She told me just to come back and pay the next time, but thankfully I was able to figure it out!! I really appreciated the kindness they showed me. Also the food is so so good. Had the lentil soup and mustard greens burrito and it really hit!! read more

Prices keep going up here and the servings stay about the same, perhaps even get smaller. I used to love this place, but $15 for an average sized burrito? I just can't stomach that any longer. read more

The burritos here are to die for. Amazing mix of Indian flavors and texture in a naan wrap. Great taste and great owner too.

Amazing, healthy food! we loved our rice plates with pumpkin/grilled veggies and salmon. what a treat! a We ordered it mild, and there was just enough spice!! The chai teas were delicious and we split the almond gelato pie with mango and rose petal drizzle. What a treat, and such nice people. So affordable I could eat there every night. Well be back!! read more

A small hole in the wall Indian restaurant with great service and amazing food. We ordered a veggie and chicken plate and pumpkin with chicken plate and everything was super delicious. Concise menu and quick service. Watch out: they are CASH ONLY. I would say avoid the soups. The burritos and platters are pretty good. Rice, garbanzo curry, yogurt and Indian chutneys for sauces. Choice of your curry/protein. The burrito gets an Indian roti for the wrap. Our food was delicious. read more

So delish I love the chicken plate with mustard greens, and the papadam - also super nice owners

Great vegetarian options. Delicious! Small walk up counter with outdoor seating. Quick & easy.

Went there on the weekend with family. One of the family members have onion and garlic sensitivity and we specifically asked if the dish ordered has them or not. We were told clearly that it did not. Wrong. There was onion in the curry and it caused a major flare up that has lasted for well over three days now. Transparency is good to have. We would have either looked for alternates or chose to go to some other place had the host provided us with the right information. Will not go back to the restaurant again and will not recommend read more

Avatars is a good fast food option in a town with shockingly few. Mill Valley, meet the Indian burrito, with pumpkin or eggplant and veggie or meat options, including lamb and chicken. For less than $11 a burrito, cash only btw, you can grab and go and try something a little unusual. It's turned out to be a recipe for success, causing them to open another burrito shop just down the road in Tiburon, and yet another in Larkspur. I admittedly find the Indian version of burrito skin a little chewy and powdery, so I tend to order their rice plate, which is a bargain and far more my speed, mainly because it looks lovely on the plate and has a little bit of everything to try, separated out. The female owner is friendly and straight to the point. You'll find very limited seating here: a few rickety tables inside and a few outside. Its a good, quick option if you are looking for grab and go in downtown Mill Valley. Try the rose or mango lassie. read more

Pathetic quantity for high prices. It was $17 for one ravioli dish which was just mango pulp We went to this restaurant as a family of four. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the expectations of the reviews. The price was way too high for small quantity. The rose mango dreams cost $17 and was just four pieces of ravioli. The flavors of the dish came from the rose syrup and mango pulp. While the flavors were a unique taste, the quantity and price weren't reasonable. The shrimp and rice enchiladas and salmon had a decent taste but still was not worth it. The dessert was $9 dollars was a very small slice. The flavors were again rose and mango with hints of chocolate. The pricing for the dessert was extremely high. Overall the flavors of this restaurant are decent but too overpriced. I will not be visiting this restaurant again. read more

The food here is so good. My only wish is that they would open up in Burlingame. They would be so successful there!

Good tasty food but adjusted to the western palate. Nevertheless tasty and light. Doesn't make you feel full. Also it was a warm day and so we ate outside, this makes the experience better. The service is good. We were new there and the lady said she'll surprise us. She did and the choice was simple. We got rice with sag paneer and chole. and the burrito must have been sweet potato and pineapple in sweet and sour sauce. Both were good. BTW they take only cash. The lady at the counter is good and is easy to converse with. Overall a good place to go if you on that side of the bay. Otherwise the toll + drive, I'm not sure if its worth it. Mill valley is also a complete change of scenery when compared to south bay, so that adds a little bit to the equation. read more

The place is nice inside and outside they have a little patio with picnic tables. The food was so so. I ordered some fusion type chicken dish that just didn't hit the spot and it was somewhat expensive for lunch. It felt like a neighborhood type place with friendly owners and not a destination unless you work or live in the area. read more

Overrated, overpriced terrible Indian food. Service is terrible and slow = terribly slow. Nothing to see, taste or try here. Look, spend and enjoy your meal elsewhere. read more

Wow what a great little place tucked away in the middle of mill valley!! I really like their unique idea of Indian food in a burrito concept! My friend and I had just finished a hike in the golden gate national recreation park area and were ready to chow down on some good food. I searched using yelp and when we saw the "punjabi burritos" headline we both knew we had to check it out. And it didn't disappoint! My friend got a chicken curry burrito and while I was tempted to get a burrito also, the "whole wheat wrap" steered me to the rice plate instead. So I chose the eggplant with chicken curry rice plate. We didn't have to wait long. However, instead of eggplant I got squash in my chicken curry instead. Just a little snafoo that was quickly corrected - they gave me a small side of eggplant. It was good and my friend really liked his burrito so I was willing to overlook this little mistake. Overall, our leap of faith with this find was a success! We'll definitely be back to test out more of their dishes. Also I could have jumped up and down with joy when I saw the "no dairy" and "no gluten" words pasted on their menu. Because of those four little words, I instantly fell in love with this place. PS. They only take cash. I didn't see a sign anywhere that said "Cash Only" but the huge ATM machine on the wall was my first clue and the second was the missing credit card machine near their register. read more

Sanitation Issue. SO unfortunate. Was truly looking forward to taking out some Indidan food. The owner greeted me promptly and was friendly -- however -- the same hands that was handling plates and money, dirty cash money, grabbed a somosa without washing his hands. Then he tried to convince me that he was a nutritionist, and there was nothing wrong with it. As an immunousppressed person, I was not convinced. He asked one of his assistants to make the somosas. They were overpriced and oddly flavored, (and I have had several thousand Indian meals, from many regions). The lassi tasted watery, and frankly the worst rose lassi I had tasted. The whole experience was disappointing. If you care about food safety and hygiene, skip this restaurant. read more

This review is for the little store downtown Mill Valley which I think is better that other branches Ive been to. Surprisingly great Indian Food. Hits the holy trinity of Good, Cheap and Fast! And it's really good. Lots of vegan options. I always get one of the plates. This pumpkin curry is great as is the smoked eggplant and their saag "paneer" dish (spinach) which is made with tofu instead cheese. All plates come with a main, super long grain basmati, three outstanding chutneys that they make in house and chickpeas (channa masala) that like other items, is better than versions served in many sit down indian restaurants. I live in SF, but anytime I am close by I grab food from here for take out. read more

Super friendly staff and plenty of easy parking. It's a good place for kids. I don't like their food as I find it has too many flavors. I prefer something basic with saffron or turmeric and good, simple ingredients suited to my dosha. The chefs here seem to think the more flavors you put into something the better. I don't like garlic or onions or complex flavors as a pitta dosha. My wife, as a kapha who needs many flavors to fire her up, loves this place and I respect that. Staff could not be nicer, but if you want a simple chana masala of chicken tikka or something that is basic but good you cannot find it--they will add 15 other spices in which tend to have an adverse effect on my body. read more

A fun, nonchalant, CASH-purchase stop for a quick food fix- most menu items are pre-cooked, Indian food counter style, the 'fusion' that customers reference is due to the plated presentation of a burrito or enchilada. Rarely is there a wait- whether in line, or for your plates. Select a drink or two in the fridge. Eat at the humble few tables, or take your food to go. I have stopped here for food for years and have always exchanged niceties with the family and others behind the counter. I have FaceTimed with a cashiers family overseas as she took our order. Always good vibes! No rsvp needed, you'll see why; you are in, pleasantly fed, and you are off to traipse the streets of Mill Valley without a hitch to your Dipsea-hiking schedule! If you crave a more restaurant-y vibe, with a more expanded menu, take a short drive over to the Avatar's restaurant in Sausalito. read more

A great plate of food time and again at all of their locations. The first time I went to Avatar's was their Larkspur location. it was a great experience I am happy to say was repeated at the Mill Valley location. Indian food served with a twist and tastiness that brought me back. I recommend trying the specials This time it was a Great special in the form of a turkey and sweet potato rice plate plate thing. Super yum and gone all to quickly! They also have Bundaberg Ginger Beer here. Thins of it as a ginger ale with big brass balls. Best non-alcoholic thing they could have had to go along with the plate. Hint: They do have a bathroom here and it's clean. You just have to ask. Glad I stopped by and know I will be back in the future! Thanks Avatar's Mill Valley! read more
