He picked up the phone and reassured me that he can come out quickly and address the issue. In fact, he was able to diagnose the root cause over the phone and came prepared to resolve the issues. While fixing the issue, Ryan took the time to help me understand my electrical panel and explained the process of how he was going to fix the issue. After the work was completed, he ensured that there were no ongoing issues and that the work was completed to my satisfaction. At no point did Ryan come off as impatient or made me feel like he was rushing. He completed the fix quickly, but was very thorough in his work (something that comes with experience, practice, and being confident in the work). He was extremely kind and patient as he answered all of my questions. The rate Ryan charged was fair (i.e., no price gouging); especially given the short notice. I am definitely going to be calling on Ryan (no hesitation) for any future work that may require an electrician.

Ryan came out promptly the next day when I requested and his work was professional and clean. He explained everything he was doing along the way and left everything just as good as it was when he arrived. His rate was very reasonable and the final job cost was very close to his rough estimate. I'd recommend Ryan for electrical work and would use his services again.

Once the electrician gained entry to my home, no inspection was performed, and the visit was instead converted into an attempted upsell to a paid diagnostic. This conduct reflects a classic bait-and-switch. The "FREE QUOTE" was used to induce the appointment. This conduct implicates multiple consumer-protection violations as outlined below, including heightened concerns where deceptive in-home solicitations affect senior customers: - Bait-and-switch -- promising a "FREE QUOTE" to induce an appointment, then substituting a paid diagnostic once access to the home was obtained, in violation of 815 ILCS 505/2B and FTC Act §5 (15 U.S.C. §45). - Deceptive and unfair business practices -- materially misrepresenting what the "FREE QUOTE" included and failing to provide the promised inspection and written estimate, in violation of 815 ILCS 505/2 and FTC Act §5. - Material misrepresentation -- the scope of the "FREE QUOTE" was a material term that influenced the decision to schedule the appointment and allow entry into the home, actionable under 815 ILCS 505/2. - Deceptive inducement and reliance-based harm -- the misrepresentation caused reliance before any payment occurred, which constitutes legally cognizable harm under 815 ILCS 505/2 and federal unfair-and-deceptive-acts standards. In-home solicitation violations -- deceptive conduct occurring inside a consumer's residence, which is subject to heightened scrutiny under FTC Act §5 and Illinois consumer-protection enforcement standards. - Senior consumer protections -- misleading in-home solicitations and high-pressure upselling affecting a senior consumer trigger enhanced enforcement priority under Illinois Consumer Fraud Act (815 ILCS 505/2) and federal consumer-protection policy concerning older adults.

I found Chris via Yelp when I had a wall that start buzzing when I turned on a light switch,…read morecoupled with a three way switch that wasn't behaving normally anymore. No one I knew had any recommendations, so I contacted a few electricians on Yelp because I didn't know where to start. He responded quickly and was EXTREMELY helpful, talking to me on several calls to give an estimate and initial troubleshooting ideas, including suggestions for what to tell my building's engineer in case I opted to have the engineer try to fix it first. He had me send photos of my electrical panel and he mentioned the brand of breakers I had (Challenger) are known to be problematic and hazardous, so he suggested that I have them swapped out when I have the lightswitch fixed. He said my building engineer could probably do it if I preferred that, which would be less expensive. Because my building just changed maintenance/engineering companies earlier this year and I don't really know or trust the new engineer yet, I wanted to have an electrician do this to make sure it was done correctly. I was impressed by his Yelp reviews, Angie's List reviews, and BBB rating, so I hired him. Chris was super easy to work with to schedule the appointment, and he gave me a 2 hour window for when he'd arrive (and as it approached, he called/texted to update me on a more exact ETA). I ended up having him replace all my breakers, and he also replaced the three light switches that were faulty. He also swapped out my hardwired smoke detector, since my old one was past its prime. I pre-purchased the breakers and detector since I had a few days' lead time, so he only charged me for the switches and his time (which was spot-on with the estimate he gave me over the phone). He also went up on my roof when he saw the breaker for my AC unit seemed to not make sense for the size of my apartment, and sure enough it was not what the AC unit sticker said it should be. So he replaced that one with the correct amperage, which reduces the strain on the AC Unit (so it doesn't get damaged) and reduces the risk of a fire. He also found some problems with my building's roof and some building wiring that was exposed up there, which he photographed and sent to me so I could pass it along to the board and management company for them to handle. Chris is a super nice guy, and he was great at explaining what was wrong and what needed to be fixed without upselling me. I'm someone who stresses out about anything home maintenance because I'm terrified of something going tragically wrong, so I appreciated the info he shared. I've already recommended him to my neighbors in our building's facebook group, and I will definitely hire him again for any other electrical work I may need. (I may eventually get my life together and replace some ceiling light fixtures and install a fan. While in theory I could do it myself, I'd rather not accidentally electrocute myself. Plumbing and electric are the two things I don't mess around with, even for simple fixes).
