We experienced several outages in our home due to faulty circuit breakers and Ryan helped us out on short notice. He picked up the phone and reassured me that he can come out quickly and address the issue. In fact, he was able to diagnose the root cause over the phone and came prepared to resolve the issues. While fixing the issue, Ryan took the time to help me understand my electrical panel and explained the process of how he was going to fix the issue. After the work was completed, he ensured that there were no ongoing issues and that the work was completed to my satisfaction. At no point did Ryan come off as impatient or made me feel like he was rushing. He completed the fix quickly, but was very thorough in his work (something that comes with experience, practice, and being confident in the work). He was extremely kind and patient as he answered all of my questions. The rate Ryan charged was fair (i.e., no price gouging); especially given the short notice. I am definitely going to be calling on Ryan (no hesitation) for any future work that may require an electrician. read more

I called Ryan and got a rough quote on installing a new outlet in our old house which has sketchy electrical and hidden mysteries behind the walls. Ryan came out promptly the next day when I requested and his work was professional and clean. He explained everything he was doing along the way and left everything just as good as it was when he arrived. His rate was very reasonable and the final job cost was very close to his rough estimate. I'd recommend Ryan for electrical work and would use his services again. read more

I've used Ryan twice now. Both occasions were urgent. He's quick to respond, thorough, and kind. We have an old house and weird issues, but Ryan was able to help us resolve them, even when others weren't. I have his number saved for the next time, and won't hesitate to give him a call. read more

Ryan repaired the anchor point where the power lines connect to my house after a storm took down a massive tree limb onto the lines, pulling them down. In a phone call, he communicated what he likely would need to do and gave me a rough estimate that ranged from $500 to $1,500. When he eyeballed the house, he performed the work for $675. He was fast, communicative, and did the work for a fair price, in the low range of the estimate. I'd definitely recommend Ryan. read more

Ryan was really quick to reply and was super helpful! He was available very quickly and showed up right on time. He ran me through all my options and gave me the pros and cons. At the end of my project, I felt very well taken care of. The job was very well done and I understood exactly what had been done and how. The price was very fair and gave options in case I wanted to spend less. Thank you Ryan! I will be going to him for all my electrical needs. read more

I have used Ryan for electrical projects at my home multiple times. The first time was for installing a doorbell in a troublesome spot and the second time was for adding additional outlets to key locations in my house. He is knowledgeable, friendly and easy to work with. He very much has a 'teach a man to fish' mentality, which I have appreciated. He has consistently gotten the job done. I'll be using his services again in the future for sure! read more

While trying to install a new lighting fixture in the basement of our 1920s home, we encountered some truly baffling issues that, among other things, affected the outlets in our living room upstairs. After trying to troubleshoot the issue every way we knew how, we consulted Yelp to see if there was an electrician nearby who might be able to sort things out for us. After reading the glowing reviews of Ryan Electrical Power and Lighting, it was an easy decision. Ryan responded to my request almost immediately and was at our home in Oak Park within an hour. As we expected, our electrical issues weren't exactly straightforward but Ryan took his time to locate and remedy the problem and, in the process, eased our concerns about the safety and longevity of our wiring. Ryan was extremely professional and courteous (he chatted with my dad and explained everything he was doing every step of the way so we know what to be on the lookout for in the future) and his rates were really fair. (When we inquired about the possibility of installing our new Nest Thermostat, he even recommended that we just call an HVAC professional who would probably charge us less!) While we hope we don't have any electrical/wiring issues in the near future, we most certainly will call Ryan first if anything comes up! read more

Ryan is a licensed pro who really knows his stuff, and he's a nice guy. He wired some recessed light fixtures when I lived in a condo, and he just helped me with a shorted out light fixture in the garage at my house. He's also been able to show up faster than any of the other electricians I've used. In that respect, I hope doesn't get too popular. read more

We were really optimistic after reading the reviews for Ryan. After we recently experienced a blackout in our master bathroom, and after my husband checked the fuse without success, I went to Yelp where I came across Ryan's profile. The good: he was responsive and was able to come same day! Unfortunately, his visit did not at all live up to the reviews here or the expectations we'd aligned on via the phone prior to his arrival. When my husband called and spoke to him earlier in the day, Ryan was very elusive when asked about his hourly rate should repairs be required. We should've noted this as a red flag, but we figured we could at least get a diagnosis and then make an informed decision about how to proceed. When pressed, Ryan claimed his fee just to show up and diagnose the problem would be $175. That felt a little steep, but we agreed to that pricing after he explicitly confirmed that cost would go toward any repairs that might be required. After arriving at our home (and after looking around and telling us we had a really nice place/asking what we did for a living...) Ryan ultimately didn't honor that conversation. It turns out the problem was a hidden GFCI outlet (that my husband actually located while they were searching together) had tripped, so after pressing the reset button, the "problem" was resolved. Ryan looked at two additional spots in our home to give us an opinion, without having to do any work whatsoever. No tools, repairs, labor required. He had arrived at 6:05 and by 6:45, he was about to head out when he began a with a casual, "Let me just calculate the cost...the charge is $300." My husband asked how he has arrived at this price given he 1) inquired about his hourly rate both via text and on the phone and was informed that he would only incur that cost if repairs were needed and 2) given he was so clear the $175 covered the diagnosis. His response was that he was charging for two hours of time. My husband noted that he'd only been at our home only there 40 minutes and asked him to clarify, reminding him of their conversation. He kept vehemently replying "that's the price. Sorry you're disappointed" with no justification. Eventually after my husband stood firm, pushing back on him to explain, he started to gradually reduce his price until he was at $200. After a significant amount of back and forth, we finally paid him just to get him out of our home, but the whole experience left a very sour taste in our mouths. Save yourself the headache. Unless you want to chance having to deal with shady business practices, we do NOT recommend working with Ryan. read more

Ryan is kind of a genius of electrical stuff. He fixed my kitchen outlets (1/2 my house plugs didn't work) and added light fixtures. I plan on hiring him again. FYI: when my kitchen outlets weren't working, I had another well-rated company come here. They quoted me $4500, and I'm still not sure if they actually figured out what was wrong. Ryan came and fixed the issue for much less and way quicker. read more

I reached out to Ryan via yelp yesterday 6.16.2021 as I needed to add lighting to my basement area. I had previously request quotes from other companies but no one was able to come out for at least a month. Ryan was over to our home within a couple hours and ready to get to work right away. He provided great advice on a few other future project we have and did a great job adding a couple of additional lights to our basement/utility area. read more

My in-laws had trouble with service company they hired to fix their range 2 days ago. Long story short, the technician blew up their fuse and their whole electric box went out. On top of being on the edge with all the trouble that was done by the repair technician, they had the hardest time to finding an electrician for an emergency appointment. They were told one will come that night but ended up being a no show. I contacted Ryan electrical power for a quote that night and he responded right away. Given that it was already about 10pm, my in-laws chose to just wait for an electrician from Hobson to come the following morning. Thursday morning comes and I get a call that the guy was no show again. I gave them Ryan's number and not only was he willing to squeeze them in for that day but he actually took time to listen to their problem and he was able to walk them to fix their issue of restarting their electrical panel. Folks, this is when you know that one is a master of their craft. It ended up that they didn't even need to have an electrician come over. Thank you so much for your expertise that you were able to help 2 strangers when they were very frantic and tired. We have saved your information and will recommend you whenever a need for an electrician arises. read more

The power went out in half my house on Sunday morning. After resetting all the circuit breakers and calling Comed. I starting calling electricians. My call was promptly answered, and Mr. Ryan explained that he was out on a call, would be available in a couple hours, and he would call me back. He did call me back, but by that time, Comed had restored the power. While he did not actually come out and provide service, I was satisfied with the response and would not hesitate to call Ryan Electric in the future. read more

Highly recommend Ryan. He is responsive, skilled, friendly, and reasonably priced. I had a malfunctioning outdoor light fixture. Ryan came the same day as my call, diagnosed the problem, and fixed it quickly. He was very friendly and we had a nice chat about life as he worked. He is a breath of fresh air in a world where dealing with contractors is generally pretty darn irritating. read more

I contacted Ryan after running into a problem installing a new light fixture. I reached out late Saturday morning and he was here by that afternoon! He was kind, and professional and even took the time to explain to us where the issue was with the existing wiring (even though I'm sure it was obvious it mostly went over our heads). In no time he was at work putting in the new fixture while chatting with my husband and myself and even getting in a few pats on the head for our very eager puppy who was so excited to have someone new in the house. When all was said and done we had a safely wired, fully functional light fixture in our living room much more quickly than I had anticipated. His pricing was fair and as he left my husband and I breathed a sigh of relief that we had finally found an electrician nearby that we feel we can count on for any future needs. I would happily refer anyone looking for an electrician to Ryan. read more

Ryan is very kind and courteous, absolutely no question there! He arrived promptly, when needed. My only issue being his quote deviated from the email quote. Ryan knew our issue prior to arrival so upon his arrival he discovered the issue right away. Ryan is professional and also licensed. He is the best in the business! You will always get the best with him. Advice: get a quote prior to arrival and stick to it. He is a great electrician and worth the money! read more

We uncovered something weird when working on our 1920s home, and Ryan was able to come out right away to check it out and make sure the outlet was working properly. We look forward to working with Ryan again in the future! read more

Ryan has helped us with several jobs recently. He continues to be highly responsive, punctual, and knowledgeable. For the latest job, "an open neutral", Ryan help me with diagnosing what needed be done and what to look for and helped me narrow down the possibilities. I sincerely appreciated the approach of coaching me on how to resolve and saving me money as a result. Ryan's concern was performing activities that I could do myself and not being able to appropriately assess the cost (lots of troubleshooting). I appreciate the thoughtfulness. I will continue to be a long term customer! read more

This is my 2nd review for Ryan. I can't say enough good things about him. He spent most of the day hanging new fixtures, moving a ceiling fan and replacing some faulty outlets. He is responsive, skilled and knowledgeable. He is reasonably priced. He is so friendly and just a nice person. It's hard to find such qualities in people. I highly recommend him. read more

I called Ryan about a circuit issue (that turned out not to be a big problem) and he was able to respond same-day. As long as I had him on a service call, I asked if he could do a couple of smaller jobs: attach a light fixture to an old pancake junction box, and move a dedicated circuit for a dishwasher closer to the sink. (Old house, lots of crazy little problems). He was able to get it all done that afternoon. Great service, prompt, professional, and transparent. read more

Had some electrical troubles in our new house we needed fixed and addressed. Ryan was out at my house within an hour of calling him. Very professional, personable, and knowledgeable. He took the time to not only do a thorough job but explain everything he did each step of the way. Was quite a long project as we couldn't locate the problem immediately, but after some troubleshooting and enjoyable conversation, he located the problem and solved it. I don't know anything about electrician pricing but was told from my family who knows a thing or two about the business that his pricing was great and extremely fair for the job he did the length of time it took. Would highly recommend. Safe to say I've found my electrician for any future needs I may have. Thanks again Ryan, pleasure getting to know you. read more

Thorough Professional. We came to Ryan with a maddening intermittent problem: electricity in parts of a house would turn itself off and then turn itself back on, some highly variable amount of time later. Some times, hours later. With this happening more than once a day, the house was basically unlivable. Ryan was able to quickly track down the problem and, even though it was close to the end of a normal business day, he worked well past that to procure the replacement part and install it that same day. It's been a week with no further incident, so I'm convinced he found the root cause, and I'm as happy as I can be. read more

This man arrived early and told us how to save money rather than rip us off. He shared stories about his own parents situation in a similar older home he rewired himself. Thoughtful and reasonable other electricians were higher tha his estimate by more than 700 plus. He did things right taking his time and showing us exactly what he was doing and why. I called Ryan when our front porch light fixture stopped working, based on the glowing reviews here. It wasn't an emergency, but he still arrived to my house just 40 minutes later. Went through the steps to diagnose the problem, left to purchase a new fixture I picked out, and had it installed quickly. Price was about what he quoted me on the phone, maybe a little extra because I didn't have a fixture prepared so his time to go and get one added a bit to the cost. I had a question about an outlet that needed replacing, and he was generous enough to swap it out for me for no extra cost. Friendly and personable the whole time. I would gladly recommend him for any household electrical needs. read more
