I give this place 5 stars Hazel is amazing! Does a fantastic job with coloring hair and managing her clients, front desk makes you feel welcome and appreciated! Some of the other students are nice doing a great job as well. Unfortunately I did have a Starbucks cup get stolen that I had left at the salon literally noticed 5 minutes after I had left, called the front desk they said they didn't have anything turned it. I scheduled an appointment online to get my balayage redone last Tuesday. I received a call as I was on my way to the appointment after leaving work early, to tell me that the appointment would need to be rescheduled because they were overbooked. I rescheduled for the next day and it was an awful experience. It started with the student not even asking what I wanted but saying "we're just gonna do a touch up right so I'll just go get my instructor and mix up." She then came back 15 mins later and said there's no history of me in their system and when I asked them if they wanted me to show a picture of what I wanted The instructor said it was "not necessary" and they would just "aim for the same color I had on my ends." The instructor then upped the price by $30 in the chair and later my student said it was because I "let my hair grow out too much" (3 months). No foils were used to bleach my hair, I sat in the hair washing bowl for 23 mins until she came to tone me, and I was left with orange chunks of color in my hair that resembled nothing of a balayage. Half of my hair was a nice cool toned blonde when I walked in and it was bright orange and dark when I left. Although my student did proclaim that this was only her second balayage and it was "so much better than the last one," I do think most of this falls on the instructors who didn't guide her to use foils, and who convinced her to change my price, and then allowed her to let me leave with orange hair. I asked my boyfriend to call them first thing in the morning the next day while I was at work, because we were leaving for a vegas trip the following day and I had my birthday and graduation pictures coming up. They told him they would file a complaint with the educator and that he was coming in at noon and she would rush it so I would be able to get in at 5:45 that night for the night shift. My boyfriend followed up again and then again (3 times in 4 hours) and each time they reiterated that it would be taken care of ASAP. At 2pm when I got out of work, I called back to follow up and the receptionist told me the educator would call me and ask about the whole experience and then try to get me in. Cut to today, 5 days after the service, I called back to follow up and was told the educator never even looked at the complaint yet. Ari on the phone was extremely kind and got the complaint up to their director, but they still can't get me in until later in the week which will be past my birthday/birthday party. I'm extremely disappointed with the service all around here. They said don't offer refunds but I don't trust them to fix my hair anymore seeing as some of the students don't have the skills/ability to fulfill a balayage and some of the instructors don't seem to do their job either. It's not just the quality of the service but the customer experience after of feeling unimportant and that I should've expected bad quality because they're a school. The director or educator or whoever has never reached out to me and they allow the poor receptionists to deal with it all. There's nothing they can do to fix this before my birthday and wouldn't work with my schedule. I wish I had saved my money and time read more

First I want to state that I know it's an institute and they are students learning not professionals. However, I have been to other institutes and I have had an amazing experience with great quality and I would definitely recommend those to people. This institution however should not take clients. They were reading off instructions and they had no clue what they were doing. The service quality was not good and they were not prepared at all for my appointment. It felt very lazy and the workers seemed to care less about what they were doing. Overall I do not recommend this place. read more

Not sure how I should feel.... I'm loving my haircut but at the end (just yesterday 4/12) I was treated pretty differently than the rest of the clients in there.. My haircut wasn't even finished yet....i asked the girl doing my hair (Ari) if she could just blow dry it straight rather than styling it, the haircut already took longer than expected-which I know, they are students but still; as someone who got their haircut there often, it shouldn't have taken that long to where I couldn't get a decent blowout afterwards. Anyway. Ari walks away and then comes back shortly...As she starts blow drying my hair, one of the ladies at the front desk comes up to me and asks me to pay because she's "asking everyone". I have done nothing but look around the whole place the whole time and I was the only person she (or the other girl at the front desk) asked to pay before I was even finished. I carry a CLEAR PURSE and can see the CASH inside. Did they really think I was going to walk out of a $12 haircut!? Ridiculous. They only care about money here, which is unfortunate. Considering how many hours it takes to graduate, I wished they would have taken the time to at least log the hours correctly or fix them in a timely manner. If you reach out about problems in any capacity it takes weeks to resolve or to even be addressed, and you have to stay on top of of bothering them to get it resolved. The esthetics instructor Ms. Lili would bully and be mean to students, calling them incredibly innapropriate names. The directors are also rude... just take your money elsewhere. read more

I've been there TWICE now to get my hair done, and it has been FANTASTIC!! The first time I went my hair was very grown out, and about 7 different colors/shades between dark brown and blonde. Marisela died half of my hair a very vibrant red, and the other half a shiny platinum blonde... EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!! Today I had my roots touched up for that hairstyle and Marisela did AMAZING, AGAIN!! I can not recommend her/that school enough!! I would unfortunately not recommend this school to anyone who actually wants to be an esthetician. They don't teach you anything. It is mind blowingly so disorganized. The admin tries to mess with your hours so that way you are short hours towards the end of the program and then you have to pay per hour that you "go over contract". The quality of the equipment,supplies & lack of knowledge they bring to the table is also disappointing. They are 100% there for the money. I didn't like my hair cut at all on 10/22/24. It was a horrible experience with instructor Brenda at the Mesa location. Even though it was a quiet and slow day at the salon, Brenda didn't want to communicate with me. She was hard to find each time when the student needed her, she didn't show/teach the student, she didn't care about my hair style. As a long-term client at this salon, I have met so many amazing instructors and have been very impressed with their professional skills and customer service. However, Brenda is different. After giving this place my business twice they have proven that they are not interested in their clients or customer service. The so called director Julianne Clark is completely useless at her job and quite rude to clients. If they screw up they have no intention to fix it for you. They have a 7 day timeframe that they will supposedly fix their clients hair when they do it wrong... except here is the catch... they don't call you back at all until that time has lapsed and then lie by saying they have called to reschedule with you several times. They messed with our hours, kicked us out of our virtual class of our wifi went out and THE STUDENTS would get docked hours for it. I can't say enough great things about Avalon! I had my second appointment on Friday. First of all I'd like to say I have been going to get my hair done at beauty schools for almost 20 years. Why you say? I tell people they do a great job. The students are excited , enthusiastic and engaged in learning. They actually enjoy what they are doing. They aren't burnt out from doing it for 30 years and don't care about how you feel. I am never disappointed when I go. Best kept secret my hair looks fabulous for 1/4 the price of a fancy salon! Although you will get your hair done and feel fantastic, downfall is you will probably not see those fabulous students the next time you go in-thats because they graduate and go on to be professionals. My second time coming to Avalon School with Autumn as my stylist. Super happy with the end result! I did a fully color and layered hair cut, took 3 hours, including education moments between my stylist and the instructor. Chelsea, the instructor, was super nice and helpful. Even when she was educating or correcting the stylists she did it in a kind and professional way that made the client feel at ease. Great atmosphere with current music playing in the background and all the stylists happy and chatting with their clients and with each other. 100% recommend Autumn! read more
