First, the waitstaff and bartender are very friendly and it's a nice place. We waited 45 mins for a takeout burger for my son one night while other people were seated, ate, and left and KellyAnn quickly apologized and made things right. My son absolutely loved this burger and fries were perfect! Then we ordered a margarita pizza the next day and it was tasty but disappointing. There was barely any sauce or cheese (kinda dry actually) and it needed longer in the oven despite again waiting a long time. I think the staff shortage must be in the kitchen. Took my wife here for a "Birthday Breakfast", and they did not disappoint. Food and service were great. We both got omelettes with bacon and breakfast potatoes and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The Pilsner was serviceable, this part of the country has some amazing Pils beers so the bar is pretty high. The Belgian Wit was fruity and balanced. I was beyond disappointed. I ordered tuna tartare and when they brought it out it was grey. Even after seeing that we didn't touch it they didn't ask if there was a problem. We ordered a cheeseburger for our child, confirmed three times that it should be a cheeseburger and not a plain burger and it still came out wrong. The scallops were so salty we couldn't eat them. There were fruit flies swarming the table. And finally, the server spilled a flight of beer all over our table and food and the server told us to move ourselves to a new table. Though there were certain setbacks because of the reopening, my waitress, Sue, was more than helpful with her service. I got fish and chips and enjoyed them very much. I recently stumbled upon the brew pub on Tuesdays after basketball. It happened to be a "taco Tuesday". The tacos are spectacular and at a great price. I've ended up here for the past 8 weeks. Even better than the tacos is the company of the bartender, Ryan. I genuinely look forward to spending an hour or two with Ryan and eating as many tacos as I can each week. I was staying at a hotel nearby when I heard this place would have good food. I was thoroughly disappointed with what I experienced. Although this restaurant has expensive prices, the food leaves you feeling like you had an unfair trade. I had three in my party for breakfast and one of them got the omelette which I hated to say was horrible. It was cold and the cheese inside was felt like you were chewing on rubber. My waffle was beautiful looking but extremely doughy. If that wasn't enough to make us stay away we got burgers the next day for lunch. Family of three went at 7pm on a busy Saturday, wait was 30 minutes with no reservation, so that was not bad at all. Could have been nicer if there was a true waiting area, but the staff was really nice and accommodating. It was restaurant week and there was a special menu starter, entree & dessert for $35! Each option looked great. I got the scallop over goat cheese risotto starter. Very rich risotto but if you don't mind the strong goat cheese taste like me then you'll enjoy it. The others got the lamb chop starter. Very very small, but delicious. Just kept you wanting more which is okay for a starter. Next I got the bone in filet mignon with blue cheese whipped potatoes and a Béarnaise sauce on the side. I requested medium rare. It came extremely rare. I am okay with rare to medium rare so I still could enjoy it, but others might have sent it back it was that rare. Portion on the steak was extremely small and if it weren't for the potatoes I would have still been hungry after my starter and entree. We figure we're paying for the portion size, so onto the dessert. There were two options NY cheese cake and Crème brûlée. Dad got cheesecake and mom and I got Creme Brulée, our favorite. Waiter came out right away to say that they had run out of Cheesecake and that he could order anything else of the dessert menu. Which was great because there were many more options. We'd be jealous if we didn't love what we were getting. So out came the chocolate lava cake and two Creme Br....there was something very wrong. The Brulée was missing. We were looking at just the vanilla custard and NO hard caramelized sugar shell? We were confused, so when our waiter came back over to see how we were enjoying our desserts we asked him confused/curiously, what had happed with the Brulée part? He was a bit confused and I don't think he had ever seen/heard of what makes up a Creme Brulée. He took it back to the kitchen to investigate. While he was gone another waiter came over to vent...how it is horrible how they serve their Creme Brulée and if he had been our waiter he would have warned us not to get it. This lead us to believe this is how they serve Creme Br...well just Creme haha. The manager (who was super super nice through out the entire meal) comes out with our waiter who I have to add was fantastic the entire time except for maybe forewarning us about this little dessert modification. The manager told us that the kitchen had run out of the fuel for the torches and that they cannot make the hard shell of the Creme Brulée. Why the Chefs would still send it out claiming to be Creme Brulée is beyond me, but we got to choose another dessert off the menu. All was well on our end. Everything was fantastic and I would definitely go back again to try things off the normal menu. Just ask if they are out of fuel before you order the Creme Brulée :) read more

We had some hotel room issues so they gave us a free dinner at the pub. I am not one to complain or write bad reviews, especially at restaurants. However this was a terrible experience. We started with the Bavarian soft pretzel. Looks great but was covered in salt- and I love salt on a pretzel but this was extreme. It also seemed like it was stale. It was inedible. Next was my salad - seafood Cobb- with lobster shrimp and crab. Except the salad was missing lobster and nobody said anything. For 25$ it should have lobster. Ordered kids pasta with tomato sauce - the sauce was almost spicy it was so salty. Clearly the chef tonight loved salt or something. My hubby got the crab cake sandwich - it was covered in mayo. Literally the bread was soaked. We had ordered take out from here a few nights ago and got the fish tacos. They were blackened and also super salty and covered in the aioli. We've had a great experience the two times we've gone. They have an outside patio with an awning and fans (although really in August it is still hot, but I don't blame the restaurant for the weather!). The place is right next to the beach. If you want to sit inside, there's a nice dining room that has these big leather seats and low lighting. I always think of drinking a whiskey or scotch when I go in. By the bar, there are a few high top tables. they do have highchairs for little ones. I've had the calamari twice and both times it was good...lightly breaded. the sauce has some bite, but not super spicy. My husband's turkey sandwich had lots of turkey and he liked the Pilsner. I had the fish tacos, which were ok. We ordered the kids grilled chicken and it was a huge piece of chicken and a big scoop of mash potatoes. I also had the Oasis of Peace...if you like cocktails that 'don't taste like they have alcohol', then get that. The drink was well mixed and the 'punch' comes later. ;) read more

I recently spent the weekend in Avalon, NJ with my family and we made our way out to the new Avalon Brew Pub in the Icona Avalon Hotel. The first thing I must say about this restaurant is the décor is like no other restaurant I've ever been to. They have keg's (yes keg's) hanging from their ceiling and they managed to do it in a way that still looks like an upscale restaurant. My family and I decided to order all appetizers just because the menu choices sold us: We ordered the Brew Pub Fries, Truffle Fries, Brew Pub Mac & Cheese, Beer & Cheddar Soup, and Crispy Cheesesteak Egg Rolls. My favorite was by far the Brew Pub Fries, which came with braised short rib, Wisconsin cheese sauce, picked chili peppers, and scallions. The braised short rib was so well cooked that it literally melted in my mouth. The Beer & Cheddar Soup was also amazing. It was made with Avalon IPA, farmhouse cheddar, and had pretzel croutons. This soup blended the perfect amount of saltiness with cheese that had more wanting more pretzel croutons. The Brew Pub Mac & Cheese came with applewood smoked bacon, oven roasted tomatoes, orecchiette, and Wisconsin béchamel. The bacon and oven roasted tomatoes was a great compliment to the mac and cheese. The Crispy Cheesesteak Egg Rolls were served with Thai Chili Ketchup and the Truffle fries, which came with truffle oil, parmesan, and parsley were also delicious. We also had one of the beer flights but I won't go into detail with our choices since they state they change their draft list seasonally. We tried one Hawaiian option and the rest were local to the South Jersey area. I highly recommend the Avalon Brew Pub to anyone planning to spend some time at the Jersey Shore this summer! read more

If it wasn't off season. We would of walked out and found other options. Bartender looked at 3 parties waiting to be seated. One finally went to the bar. The other walked out, smart people. The we got oh sit anywhere. Once we found a clean table we sat. The waitress didn't know what they had. We only ordered water and a soda. The water came out so cloudy and the lemon with it was sticky and horrible looking. We changed to another soda. Both came out without ice. The waitress never brought over silverware or napkins. The food runner brought out the appetizer and dropped it off and I asked him for plates and napkins etc. he asked if we want silverware. YES. 10 minutes later our meals came. Then the waitress came over and asked did they come out ok. Had to flag her down for another iceless soda. The food was overpriced, not exactly bland. But not worth what they charged. The waitress was asked by another table for a box and check. We got a hold of her for the same and got a OH COOL from her. Like oooo. I'm gonna get a tip. The check came extremely quick to both tables. Then the box. Didn't try the beers. No mention if we were interested in that. Which is fine. We were in town for a wedding and will enjoy there I hope. We went here tonight because we've heard a lot about how good the food is. This is true- The food is delicious. However, what stood out the most to me is how accommodating the staff is. We were a party of eight with 2 young children and the staff could not have been nicer. They put together a table big enough for all of us and kept checking in to make sure we were comfortable. Maureen, our waitress was sweet and available to us with whatever we needed. And there was a wonderful girl named Crystal who kept stopping by our table to talk to the kids and they loved her! Can't speak for the food besides the pretzel, which was to die for, but the drinks were very good! If Shaquille is your bartender be sure to ask him for the Beach Berry Breeze. There was an error in my order (I ordered soup that never arrived) and slow perfunctory service. But these are minor. I ordered boullibaise, which was not only poorly prepared and presented, but it was a paltry portion and cost $38.00. I am a small, petite woman and I was very hungry after finishing my meal. After eating at the Avalon Brew Pub, my husband and I went across the street to the Concord so I could have a good dinner at a reasonable price. I went to ABP for a date May 24th and had a reservation for 8:00pm. Atmosphere & Ambiance: The atmosphere and ambiance was nice--you saw people dressed in dresses and heels as well as and khakis; but you also saw people in boardshorts and flip flops. The bar and dinning room are separated by a short wall so it was very noisy. Service: I forget our waitress's name but she was very nice. The reasoning for the low rating is because even though we figured that the kitchen was backed up and issues had arose, we weren't offered anymore water or drinks and we had to ask after 35 minutes about an estimated time for our appetizers. She rarely checked our table and gave us updates so we basically we had to hunt her down. It took us an hour to finally get our starters. Food: The food in general was alright--nothing too special. For starters we ordered the giant pretzel which was pretty good and the cheesesteak dumplings which we liked better; the pickled onions were very good. My date ordered the chef's weekly burger which seemed a little small and I ordered the pork chop which came out dry. Was a bit disappointed. But the local beer was very good. My favorite was the peach and his was the Chillpill. Overall I feel like if we went another day it would be better. I wouldn't mind giving it a chance for redemption but not too keen at the moment. read more

Also, if you are a woman I would advise against ordering wings. Wait staff made multiple comments of concern and mocking jokes regarding the need for napkins. Ok "hun."
