I've been a few times now so I feel like I can write an honest review. You're here for coffee right? Well the coffee is good. Not amazing, but definitely good for a morning run before work or a coffee break. I was a bit puzzled that they charge extra for oat milk; it's the only independent shop I've been to anywhere in Brooklyn that charges extra for it. It's a spacious space but there isn't a whole lot of seating. It's not really meant to be a shop you sit and do work or even have a small meeting I don't think. It's meant to be a place you get your coffee and leave. The service is alright although it can be a bit slow at times. Depending on the time of day there will only be one person working there. The pastries are good but I think they're slightly pricier than surrounding bakeries and coffee shops. It's not significant by any means, only 25-50 cents more. But this can add up if you're going every day for coffee and a pastry. And that's my issue with this shop. On its own for a one-off, it's fine. But if it's your regular shop you go to 4-5 times a week, I think you're getting ripped off compared to other shops in the area. And I think because of their location, they think they can charge a bit more than others for little things. Because really, how far are you going to walk if you work in that area or are trying to catch the train? It's good once in a while but as a regular go-to coffee shop? Look elsewhere. read more

Dude behind the coffee was extremely rude to me for someone who's visiting for the first time. I ordered a hot coffee, and then I catch him putting hot water into the cup. So I asked him "Sorry, was this a coffee, or an Americano?" and he sassily told me "I'm making a new batch- so unless you want it to be extremely acidic, this is it." And then turns around. Do you know how easy it is to make a good customer experience at a coffee shop? Do you know how many coffee shops are surrounding this place? To top it all off, the cup wasn't even full! I LOVE AVAbrew! The coffee is always on point and the atmosphere is relaxed and positive. When I went on Sunday the baristas were joking around with each other and were so friendly to me. It warmed my heart to see baristas who obviously enjoy their job. The barista with the pink hair made me laugh and feel included in the conversation while the other barista made me a wonderful drink. Tldr; check your receipts, they might be overcharging you. I just moved to the neighborhood and came here looking for a place to make my regular coffee joint. The coffee and pastries were good frankly, but they have some fraudulent business practices. They charged me a different price than what was clearly stated on their menu. I only noticed the discrepancy because they use square terminal and I got the receipt emailed to me. When I raised this with the barista, he did a few things that were unsettling: 1. He said the extra money was tax-no, actually, tax is charged in a separate line item in square. This was clearly just a lie. 2. He said they're in the middle of changing ownership and the big menu needs to be updated, so he pointed me to the small, temporary menu-fine, but the temp menu also shows a different price than what I was charged. 3. He said I should have seen this when they were ringing this up-so, somehow it's the customer's fault that you can't get your menu right? 4. He then asked "what, you want a refund?" In the rudest tone. After some back and forth, he finally admitted that they need to fix the menu as well as the temporary menu. I wish he had just done that in the beginning instead of blaming the customer for what was likely a corporate problem. For some reason he chose to make it his problem, when clearly the extra money wasn't going in his pocket! Anyway, I refused the refund because I was so fed up at that point, but now I wish I asked for it-don't make the same mistake as me. read more

I heard about this place online and checked it out during a work break (around 2pm on a weekday). It was virtually empty, which meant plenty of seating and no wait for service. I chalk this up to a lot of construction still going on with the building and I would expect things to pick up in the next few weeks/months. My iced coffee was quite good (although at $4.25 for a large, just a bit steep on price). It was slightly nutty but smooth, just the way I like it. The barista was very nice and I enjoyed having a few options for creamer/milk and sweetener. Super clean, super spacious (although maybe a bit of an echo for people talking). Definitely a good, little, non-Starbucks option in the area. read more

This place is a bit more expensive than the other coffee shops around. That doesn't mean their coffee taste better. My latte was weak, burnt and acidic tasting. Assault on my taste buds. I brought a 8oz hot chocolate this morning $5.50 with tip. When I asked the barista if she called my drink after several minutes of standing directly ifo her, she proceeded to tell me she called my drink several times (*which I didn't hear nor did they attempt to get my attention visbly or by name). I went here with a friend in the early afternoon to grab a coffee and chat. The place is not too big, but it is a good size for a coffee shop. We were drawn to the place because it is not a chain coffee shop nor is it cart coffee. They have a fair amount of seating. A nice couch that would comfortable seat 3 people and uncomfortably seat 5 thin people. They have about 3-4 tables with chairs and two bright yellow wooden chairs. The coffee shop is attached to the high rise residence next door which has more seating for its residents through a glass door. Not sure if you really could sit over there without any issues, but we didn't not want to take on the fuzz so we could gossip privately... so we lowered our voices. The iced coffee was really good. I would definitely come back and try more items. They have a lot of desserts too. I hope the pics I took are helpful so you can see what they offer. The staff was very friendly as well. read more

This is the nastiest coffee I have had in a minute, and especially for $2.75 for a small cup. Bitter, thin, smells acidic, tastes burnt. Too bad, this area needs another cafe, but the Brooklyn Brewery in the mall is better than this.
