I read all of the reviews, especially the negative ones, before spending over $750 with AV retro over the last 4 months. I don't want to write a review that is just another person's "positive experience" but a review that addresses some of the negative reviews left for this establishment, as I've been through the shopping, purchasing, servicing, and return/exchange process. I've been able to see "ah that's what the negative review was talking about" and I would find that the reality is much different, and that in most cases people are expecting "big establishment" services from a local shop. Pricing: Yes, some of the games you can find online for "cheaper." But I find that 90% of their games are priced well and in much better condition than the online stuff. I don't care that I can get their $8 GameBoy game for $3 online (before shipping), I'd rather be supporting a local business. It's the big titles that are priced at market value, and you cannot put that on the owner. You or me would do the same. Their consoles are usually 10% - 40% higher than what you'll find on FB Marketplace, but again what they offer has been checked, repaired, and will most likely be in better condition. The fact that they offer store credit if the game is unplayable or offer 2 year repair warranty on their consoles more than makes up for this in my opinion. Rude staff: Eyad, the store owner, runs the place by himself. He will have help on busy days like weekends, otherwise it's just him from what I can understand. He is handling the store, the repairs in the back, and is on the phone with customers AT THE SAME TIME, the entire day 6 DAYS A WEEK. So if you come in, and he goes in the back and cannot attend to you for a minute, try to appreciate that you're in a physical retro game shop in 2025 and try to be understanding. The helping staff have been nothing but kind to me in my experience, and Eyad has been kind and professional too. I can see that he is going from the store room to the back room, checking on repairs, while trying to attend to the storefront with an AirPod in his ear talking to customers simultaneously. This ain't Best Buy, and I think it's unfair that there are several negative reviews painting a picture of him or his staff being inattentive, rude, or unreasonable. I can report that I haven't experienced such a thing in my 4 months of shopping thus far. Returns & Exchanges: They do not offer returns on games (not sure about consoles), but will offer store credit if the game is unplayable. I got Twisted Metal (PS1) for my PS2 and they ensured that the game would play. It unfortunately didn't. Eyad gave me store credit and that was that. No friction at all, unlike what some of the reviews would suggest. I would personally want the option to return the game, but I can see how that could be unsustainable for a business such as this. Summary: I find their inventory well priced and their staff kind & professional. Their warranty & exchange policy is a saving grace in case a game or console is damaged/unplayable, and makes up for the slight markup on the popular games. Let's celebrate that we still have physical retro game shops in 2025 and support local businesses where we can! read more

Ahhhh this place SAVED THE DAY! We literally were given a free Nintendo Wii and we were missing one tiny little piece/cord. And this place was able to save the day! I have a Microsoft Office and Computer Repair certificate, but my heart is in Culinary Arts rather than Tech. Over the years, I have learned a thing or two. I could have just done the maintenance myself on my counsels, pc, and laptop, but being a chef takes most of my time, so I've been coming here for years. Don't get me wrong, I get quotes from all the computer shops in the AV, and there are not that many anyone can do all this in one day. At the end of all this, I looked at the pros and cons and always came here at the end time and time again. You won't have issues often if you take care of your belongings. I come here at least every 6 months to get all my counsels and pc cleaned. I have a PS4, PS4Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox series S, PC, and Laptop; they are fast and quiet like a mouse since coming to AV Retro. read more

Came in for a ps4 hdmi port fix. Upgraded for expedited services and cleaning. Paid over $150 for this and port repair lasted a few weeks. Came back in to get it fixed again , owner denied any responsibility and was still trying to charge me again for the repair he should have corrected the first time. Be cautious. read more

This place is amazing and the staff well, not the guy today with tattoos. He was unprofessional was on his phone the whole time texting while we asked him questions about the system we took to fix. Last time we came to drop it off, the kind lady was so nice and told us that when we pick up the system they'll test it in front of us. This guy from today was too damn busy on his phone he look irritated and wanted us to basically just leave so he can continue to text. He didn't test it Infront of us because "he didn't have the cords for it" but I have a feeling he just didn't want to. So unprofessional. But the other staff who was there last time was with us. We tried to have a video game controller repaired. They told us $20 diagnostic and hyphen told us an additional $20 to repair. They advised us not to repair it because it would not be worth the repair versus buying a new one. So I canceled the repair. When we did a price check for a new controller via amazon, we decided to move forward with the repair. The owner refused to reopen the order even though we hadn't yet picked up the broken remote. He said he had closed the order and to reopen the repair it would cost and additional $20 diagnostic fee even though we had already paid one for the item. Thieves. We took our broken controller and left. You are better off going anywhere else than this place. It's a terribly dishonest way to do business. Update! - The owner came back and stated via google hangouts (not text) that he was willing to fix it for free and then tried to say that our conversation was a miscommunication. He did this after he read my reviews, then went on social media and stated that I lied and then tried to cover up the fact that this happened. Strange response. His response to this whole mess has been very unprofessional. Hopefully no one else gets charged a second diagnostic fee for a dumb reason. Mission accomplished. Update 7:50 PM - The owner sent a message that he would no longer fix the controller and offered to refund the original diagnostic fee instead. Time will tell. His offers and story keep changing. Update 10:00 - The owner changed his story yet again. This guy should seriously be flagged. Update 11:57 - after a horrendous public via social media battle - the owner impulsively sent me a $40 refund after he tried to say his books proved he did not do the above. (He is the owner and can modify such books. I'm not buying it.)I got a refund which I didn't ask for but it took a lot of headache folks and at one point, I was told "f*** you" but one of his buddies because I spoke out. Unprofessional & way above market. This store has been closed constantly lately, I've been meaning to stop by for a while & had some free time to stop in. Unfortunately they have to "look up prices" on most items in the store before selling them to you & will be priced far above market value after being "checked." What is the point of having items on the floor when they are not priced & when you ask about pricing, they just check eBay current listings & ask about 25 percent more than that? Almost all of the items in this store are much higher than market value & also in a much worse condition than elsewhere. As often as this store is closed, you would think they would take some time to price items as they are put on the floor, not at the point of sale. Everything in here is overpriced & most of the higher end games are in poor condition but priced above market but in much worse condition than what is available elsewhere. read more

Everyone should be aware of this business. My first interaction at this place was returning a game my brother bought for me for Christmas. It was a Dreamcast game. when I got the game, the game didn't work so I took it back to the store to get a refund the employee did not want to give me a refund. He resurfaced the game and I had him check it before I left and sure enough it did not work. The gentleman did not want to give me a refund. He said they would only give store credit so he gave me a receipt several months went by and I bought a game, after the purchase I was left with a remainder of 40 on the receipt. On 082224 I went back to the store to use the rest of my credits when I tried to purchase some games the gentleman said that this receipt wasn't any good that I was supposedly issued a gift card via email. He said it was either through his AV retro email or square the gentleman is not aware of which platform he's using to send emails, and he said he couldn't check his transactions history because it was too along ago. So intern he could not redeem my credit, but yet there was no proof any email been sent to me with the store credit and he can't prove it because he says his system doesn't go back that far which is really convenient for him so I cannot in good conscious recommend this place if they can't look at their past transactions then my question is how far back does your system go? and if that's the case then you need to inform customers how long they have to redeem their credit since their system only goes back so far . He no imperial proof that he sent me an email only his word because he cannot check the transaction history/system because it doesn't go back that far. I never received an email with said credit. So the moral of the story is this business sells broken and there is lack of qc and does not honor his past transactions and he doesn't need to because he doesn't have proof and can't look up things that far back. This is the world we're living in, buyers beware this is bad business. Shady and dirty business practices. read more

So my Laptop computer Failed to boot up and I needed a technician. I found AV Retro on my phone and it was very close to my house. And I did not want to deal with Geek Squad. So I showed up without calling ahead, and asked if The gentleman could help me. And very politely He said he would call me the next day with a diagnosis. Well He actually called me just a couple hours later with the problem and recommended solution and price. I had him do the repair, which was a new Hard drive, I had my computer back the next day. My computer now runs better and faster than before, Due to a more reliable solid state drive he installed. I was very impressed with the service here, and very happy. This place is utterly awesome. I bought a Super Nintendo classic from them and for a reasonable add-on price they loaded another 60 games of my choice into it. They not only did so quickly but it works like a charm and they were very prompt communicators throughout the process. Was confused by the only photo that was posted for this company because I don't believe it's from this location. It's a small business right off J, but don't let the small space fool you because this guy is GREAT. I brought my ipad mini in to get the digitizer replaced. He warned me over the phone that replacing the digitizer may not fix the issue but i brought it into him anyways just so he could check it out. He said that "because the lock button doesn't work" it's actually an issue with something on the motherboard. He could have easily taken my money but he was up front&honest. (other repair shops I got quotes from didn't tell me the problem could persist after replacing the digitizer). I decided to just get my glass repaired on my iPhone 8 by them since I was there anyways. It was the least expensive quote I got from any repair shop. He stated it would take about 2 hours but 1 hour later it was done! The quality, quickness and honesty of this repair shop is AMAZING! Will definitely return for future repairs! THANKS! read more

So the day before yesterday my brother took my iPhone 8plus in to his store to get the charger port and the speaker fixed but one of the main things I looked at on the phone was the camera cause I said it looked just a little blurry, yesterday I picked my my phone up and my front camera is completely black but the back camera is magically super clear again and when I asked what was wrong with my camera they said they didn't know, I honestly feel like they sabotage my camera to get me to pay more money for another problem that wasn't there and now I have a black front camera and they tried to blame it on me he said and I quote " I have 3 cameras in my operating room cause people say things like this all the time" meaning I'm not the first person it's happened to Im just probably the first one to get on Yelp and I wish someone had told me like I'm telling you DO NOT GO HERE AT ALL Update: anyone who wants to go here and think Im lying please go a couple stores down to d and d wireless I then took my phone there to get my camera fixed and he was so nice and fixed it for a decent price and did it in 20 minutes he also said people who go here always come down there complaining about av metros work, he also said my screen was fixed very unprofessionally (my brother took the phone a couple months ago to get the screen fixed) and he said it was fixed poorly I wish bad on no ones Business or store but the truth is the but the truth is the truth one minute my camera worked when I picked it up it didn't work anymore don't u think if my camera was broke I would have asked for it to be fixed as well ? Took my son's PS4 to replace the HDMI port that was damaged. Called ahead to see if they were able to repair it and the gentleman that answered the phone and said yes. We drove straight there and was in and out in less than five minutes. He asked if I'd be interested in having the console deep cleaned and the heat sink cleaned to prevent overheating at a discounted price (since they already were going to have the unit opened up). I said yes and he told me that they'd have it completed within 24hours. Sure enough he called the next morning to let me know it was ready. Pick up was also a breeze and I thought the pricing was very fair. PS4 was fixed as promised and works like new again. Due to the coronavirus, they were only open for repairs and this was a lifesaver since the schools are closed. My husband took my iphone into have the battery replaced and it was in the shop all day. When he picked it up at the end of the day and brought it home it was the same color but not my phone. Now it will not turn on at all and on the invoice in writing it describes the damage to the phone on the sides that were there when he dropped it off. When he picked my phone up there was no damage to the phone like they stated on the invoice and with the new battery it will not even turn on at all. The only reason I took my phone into the shop was because my battery would only hold a charge for a short time and now I have a new looking iphone same color that I can't turn on. All my personal info is on my iphone and now it's gone. They got us good ..... My husband didn't flip out like I would have so I figure it's better to post the experience so other people don't get taken advantage of. read more

I have been a loyal customer for about 5 years now & I have to say the customer service is AMAZING. I have brought in my old laptop and a few phones over that time. Recently I got both my front and rear iPhone XS Max screen repaired. The back of my phone was originally white but I wanted the gold back and they ordered it for me no problem. We did encounter a small hiccup with the front screen. The digitizer on the screen wasn't welded right and was causing a blue shadow on the screen. When I came in and talked to the owner he was very transparent and told me they had been having that issue lately, apologized, and went ahead and replaced the screen free of charge. I had a screen protector on the screen and he went ahead and threw one on after. The following day I noticed a very slight blue mark again and brought it in. He looked at it and he didn't see it but he took my word for it and replaced the screen again with another screen protector withing 15 minutes. I was really appreciative because not all repair shops are that nice. The owner and his employee were very nice and courteous during every visit. I highly recommend them read more

Oh My Gosh!! I am so grateful for this company!! i bought a computer from amazon that was rebuilt. About a week in the computer had an error message but i thought it was something rebuilt computers did so i paid it no mind. About 3 months later it gave me the message again and i contacted the seller and they stated the return was already expired. 2 months after that the computer stopped working and the error message never went away. so i took it to AV Retro and they stated that my hard drive had crashed i asked them if i would be able to save any data because stupid me didnt have anything saved on a flash drive. please people save your information and data to a flash drive just in case. The nice young man said they will do all they can to save my data and they did they were able to save all my information and data. My programs couldnt be saved but i didnt care because he saved my babies videos and pics i am so grateful for this company i would have lost all of my personal information and my work. Why i didnt have a flash drive backup was so stupid. Btw i went to another place before i found them and they stated they would not be able to save anything and they were going to charge me a lot.
