Raul made time for my hard drive upgrade right away. He offered fast turnaround, with the replacement SSD installed and my iMac ready for pickup in a single day. Unfortunately, in the course of opening up the iMac --which requires removing the glass with a pry tool -- the Apple was nearly sliced (see photo). I won't lie: I was mortified by the damage but also felt bad for Raul since clearly this is not easy news to break to a first-time customer. (I found AV Computer Repair on Yelp.) However, upon plugging in the computer the next day I found that the microphone was not working. According to Google, this is a possible "complication" of upgrades to an iMac. Upon taking the computer back to Raul, it was discovered that the kit I provided to Raul for the original work included display adhesive that wasn't pre-cut for the microphone on the 2017 iMac. (Most iMacs have the mic located near the iSight camera at the top, whereas this model and a handful of others locate it at the bottom of the display.) So it would appear to be that the company I bought the kit from sent the wrong adhesive and Raul didn't catch that it ran over top the mic. I was terribly nervous to take the iMac back for the mic repair because prying off the display on iMacs that use adhesive strips is risky. (Pry too hard and the glass will crack, at a cost of ~$500 cost to replace a 5K Retina display.) Raul took his time to open up the iMac and to remove the old adhesive to ensure cohesion (another risk is failure to prep the surface for new adhesive strips can mean the display falling off and breaking at a later date since the only thing holding it is tape). In the past I have done my own upgrades on Macs that are easier to get into (some are easier to work on because the glass is held on by magnetic clips, not adhesive). But in this case, neither myself nor my spouse wanted to chance this type of work. (My spouse actually works in IT but we needed someone who is comfortable repairing broken phones or tablets, in the knowledge that opening this iMac up would be more akin to getting into a phone or a tablet than your average desktop computer.) Although I was initially unhappy with the cosmetic damage and then the discovery that my mic didn't work, I count my lucky stars that everything is back together and there is no screen damage (main fear going into this job). Of all the possible accidents that could have occurred with the 2x task of opening this 2017 iMac up, cosmetic damage was by far not the worst outcome. In closing, I appreciate that Raul stuck with this and made things right. As a result, I am updating my review from two stars to four. read more

Suddenly one recent day, I got a blue screen which said there is a problem. Big frowny face. Followed by a couple lines of text that instructed me to boot up using other media. A restart seemed to fix it, but it kept happening. For the first time I called Raul and he said bring it in. Eventually he told me this PC's Win 10 Pro operating system does not want to be repaired. We discussed transferring data off. He added that there are a couple more last-ditch tricks he would try, and fortunately one of them worked. He got it to boot up and ran a Win repair routine. Raul knows his stuff. First of all, he works out of his garage but has a professional business setup and communication (e-mail, text, phone) was excellent. My aftermarket SSD hard drive crashed on my 2009 MacBook Pro. He was able to recover the data, order a new SSD hard drive, reload the most current OS, and get me back up and running. Best of all, he provided me with the invoice and description of the problem that I was able to supply to my renters insurance company and get the repairs covered. He dealt with me indecisively trying to figure out if I wanted to just buy a new computer or have him fix my old one. He patiently talked me through options and let me make the decision and then had a rapid turn around time. I would recommend Raul. This is s relatively new, one man shop, low budget set up in a swap meet like place -Sol Plaza - at 1140 Commerce Center Dr, Lancaster, CA not the address on yelp- basically a bunch of small independent stalls in a big building. I cracked the screen on my iPhone 5 and didn't feel like paying $600 to get a iPhone 6 as my 5 - other then the cracked screen - worked great. I searched phone repair and found 1/2 a dozen + places in the AV - most were voicemail or nationwide outfits that advertise and sell the leads I left many messages but Chris was the only one to return my call-- as of a week after I left the VMs. Was quoted a reasonable price - $50, same as the place I'd used that messed up my iPad from eBay. I dropped the phone off and ran an errand and came back less than an hour and my phone was ready to go, good as new. Turned out he said my iPad was butchered: by the guy on eBay who used crazy glue- Chris said he could fix the iPad for $30 and have it in a day or 2--- which he did. All in all I'm pleased with and highly recommend this young guy-- he was trained by Apple and my phone is as good as new-- my iPad is still a little glitchy, but it's pretty banged up and far better than it was-- certainly better than spending $600 to replace it with a new one at this time. read more

I had 2 iPad 2s - one black with a completely shattered screen that has been sitting around for almost a year and one white that had cracks along all of the edges from a lifelock cover. At the Apple shop, the price to repair even one is so high that I might as well buy a new iPad or get a couple of used ones off of eBay - thus why the black one sat for so long. Anyway, the two bad yelp reviews seem fishy (same syntax & spelling/grammar errors) because my experience with Raul & his wife, as all of the rest of the reviewers, was great. The PRICE was more than reasonable, but he offered a discount on top of that because I had two machines - awesome. Saved me HUNDREDS. He takes CASH or CREDIT CARDS @ PICKUP using the Square swiper on a phone - easy-peasy, The TIME was a one-day repair for both machines, which he actually fixed not only the screens on but a few other issues (vol button, sleep button, etc.) - awesome. SUPER QUICK - imperative for our homeschooling & our scheduled vacation a few days after. We had a lot of COMMUNICATION before I dropped off the iPads through EMAIL (he graciously answered all of my questions) & by PHONE after drop-off (he realized he didn't have a white screen in stock so offered a black screen to maintain the one-day turn-around or to rush order a white one to get it to me in a few days - went black for speed). Honestly, DROP-OFF was a bit of "Hail Mary" because the LOCATION was just a house with a shy woman answering the door (his wife) - no signs or anything. But I figured I could always grab my burly hubs & come back if need be, lol. She took my iPads & my info & had Raul send me a receipt via txt/email; I didn't get it for several hours, so I freaked out a little & called the PHONE NUMBER on the website - it went to a funky voicemail with another number (I assume he must forward the line to his cell or something), but fear not - he does eventually answer and/or call you back. He resent the receipts immediately & I felt better ;) PICK-UP was with his wife again - she's really sweet - so I never met Raul face-to-face. But that's OK. He kept me up-to-date with emails & phone calls. The REPAIRS were top notch: the machines looked new & I believe he would have done even more had they not both been pass protected.We have had absolutely no problems with the touch screen or any of the buttons he worked on; we have also had no bubbling or hairline cracks or LCD issues I hear some complain about after a 3rd-party repair. No complaints AT ALL. LOVE LOVE LOVE - we now have 2 iPads that have been working amazingly for a few weeks, even through our vacation with a couple of rough falls & we couldn't be happier. SUMMARY: great price, super fast, good customer service, terrific repair - AWESOME! AV Mobile Repair is now our go-to shop & I have/would/will recommend them with 100% confidence. I'm thrilled with Raul and AV computer repair! A couple weeks ago my computer went dark and I contacted another computer person who told me it was for sure a new hard drive and it was going to be expensive. With this news I decided to upgrade from my 8 yo computer and went to Costco and bought a new one. Well, during this 2 week trial with the new computer I really didn't like it, I missed the ease of my old one and this morning decided to call a different company and found Raul here on Yelp and called. Immediately I liked the way he spoke to me and quoted me reasonable prices depending on what it was, to be fair he thought it might be in need of a new hard drive as well, so instead of him coming here, I dropped it off. He works out of his house, well, the garage actually, but don't be put off, it's pretty comfortable thanks to his wife that set up little tables and chairs. Terrible... I called Raul ahead of time to see if he can possibly take pictures off my LG G2 cause my phone just went black on me. He said he'll try its a 20 dollar fee okay. Dropped my phone and sd card off with his wife on Dec. 18 due to the fact he said he would be there and he was not. He told me he would keep me updated via email I never received an email I had to keep calling him. I went to pick up my phone Dec 22 and there's no SD card which had the rest of my pictures on there he said he would call his wife and call me back no phone call for 3 days. I've been calling him since he can't return my calls and he tells me today Dec 27, 2014 He lost it WTH what kind of business is this you don't keep in contact with your customer then you loose something that is priceless.
