I am the type of person who researches every electronics purchase meticulously and I have grown unbelievably tired of trying to chase down pimple-faced teenagers at Best Buy so they can pretend like they know what they're talking about. When some tool box asked me to plug in my ipod to test a pair of $3,000 Boston Acoustics speakers it was all I could do not to Hulk out on him. But that's another review I guess. After a month of reading I narrowed my search to a couple of systems, both manufactured by Definitive Technology. I was happy to find out that DefTec had a licensed Vancouver retailer in my area, so I was on my way to Sound Room. I was fortunate to be introduced to salesperson Claude (hope I'm spelling that right) who was incredibly friendly, honest, and about as low pressure as you can be in a retail position. Not only did he take the time to walk me through the different systems and break down all the differences in each speaker/receiver/sub, he handed me the remote and gave me free reign over the system. People reading this are probably thinking "congratulations, that's what a salesperson is supposed to do" and that may be true, but I'm not done. Claude was able to give me a very competitive price on each piece of equipment, even matching Amazon's would-be prices, which is outstanding for a Canadian electronics retailer. When I asked what my delivery options were, Claude actually offered to deliver the gear personally in his own vehicle after the store closed. I actually ended up riding home in his van with all of the gear, which he helped me dolly up to my apartment. I obviously can't guarantee that my experience is typical but I am certainly over the moon with the customer service I received and I will undoubtedly recommend The Sound Room to anyone shopping for home theater equipment.

I never really use Yelp but this is a special situation. The tall bald dude (probably Igor) was…read morevery - as the other low rating yelp reviews stated, ARROGANT. Just seems like an unfriendly fella. When leaving the store the first thing that came to mind was arrogant. Reading these other reviews it's seeming like a theme. Did not seem like he wanted me in his store being that I'm younger and don't have as much money to spend as these big ballers. I set up an appointment to demo some equipment the store had and wanted to inquire about some phono preamps without the promise of purchasing but then just felt kind of pressured to because from the vibe of it, seemed like he wouldn't be happy demoing his products without purchasing something (after purchasing, he seemed more open to allowing me to listen to stuff, but was still stand-offish). I love Hi-fi audio and told him I'd for my ears to learn different hi-fi systems as well as looking for stuff to purchase. Walked between different rooms comparing songs and everytime I left a room I just felt uncomfortable in the open areas like I wasn't wanted there, lots of one-worded responses when asking about the different systems, didn't see one smile on any of the employees faces. No thank you's for supporting their businesses or anything. I was listening to a song in the room with the Mcintosh system, he had the volume set to 90 and either the streamer or receivers or whatever set to %50... I had opened the door to check something out and he walked over without saying anything and turned it down to %10 and I said "sorry was that too loud?" and he said "no, %50 was is fine, just can't blast it too loud because these speakers have been sold"... Makes sense yeah, but why turn it down to %10 when that was the volume you had it set at? and why the passive aggressiveness... 1st time I went there a few months ago I didn't have an appointment and couldn't listen to anything which makes sense, mostly dealt with the old man who also didn't seem like he wanted to give me the time of day, second time was the taller dude who was just not pleasant at all. Lastly, the old Asian fella. As I was leaving, he was at the front desk, I was looking at the items a little bit and he must have been trying to make small talk or something but all that came out was "so what did you buy"? told him I got a preamp and he didn't really say anything. That wasn't a big deal but really? Along with your coworkers being douche bags that's it? I also said thanks, didn't get one back or even a "have a nice day" (didn't expect one back) and got out of there with a sour taste in my mouth. I'm already pretty discouraged from going into hi-fi stores being that almost everyone in the business come at you like bad boujie car salesmen. After this experience it's just that much more discouraging. Hi-fi salesman love to judge. You are not pleasant people and it shows. I love Hi-Fi audio and I am in love with a good conversation where I can learn about why someone is so passionate in something I also admire. I love that there are hardware and software that a music and movie experience to something more beautiful than it already is, but the people in it are ugly. Thank you for a terrible experience!

I'm a huge proponent of supporting locally owned businesses, big or small. So, I was excited to…read morediscover this company through Google, as it's challenging to find individually owned shops that make cameras or production-related items. However, I first called around 9 a.m. No one picked up. They indicated a faster response over email, so I complied. I inquired about the return policy in case their item wasn't compatible with mine (it's online, and pictures only do so much). At this stage, I just needed to get my hands on the item and try it (proprietary design versus proprietary design). The response was similar to what you'd get from a Los Angeles DMV service; unmotivated and passive-aggressive like an ex. While expected from a tired, understaffed customer service representative, this came from sales, haha. It made me snicker; This person is unhappy with their life choices. At the very least, they could've copied and pasted their return policy, but that was too burdensome. **No Google Page = RED FLAG. It's an attempt to hide bad reviews, and it all makes sense now** I'll go with Adorama or B & H because they care about fostering relationships. I'm a Union Cinematographer who owns gear and knows plenty of people who do. I would not recommend them based on their weak service.

Save yourself countless hours of research through online forums and call Burt for all your AV…read moreneeds! Home AV is one of my passions and definitely a hobby. One of the frustrating things about getting into something beyond Home Theater in a Box is the barrier to entry. Burt at Seattle Hi-Fi can help you demystify any questions you might have whether you are a novice or interested in bi-amping into a stereo amp bridge to a mono-block. Burt can hang with just about anyone and has the same positive attitude no matter the conversation. One of the key differentiators with Seattle Hi-Fi vs every other company I have done business with is how welcoming they are to your needs AND budget! Any AV shop will cater to your needs if your budget is right. All AV shops can make you feel welcomed if you are spending a huge amount of money. Burt has helped me when I was spending a single digit % of his suggested budget on an item the exact same as when I was spending more than what he suggested! I have felt like an extremely valued customer through every interaction with Burt, regardless of what I needed or what I was spending. Burt has spent time helping me debug problems AFTER the purchase was complete on a new use case I had and just generally is fantastic. Seattle Hi-Fi is my favorite store in the greater Seattle area, and my favorite AV store I have ever been to! Cannot recommend Seattle Hi-Fi enough.

If anything, they've limited sound quality. Seattle HiFi recommended the Niagara 1200, and phoned me when one became available. Immediately heard improvements. Cleaner top end, more detail, better bass definition, and less ear fatigue when listening to digital gear. Color me highly impressed again.
