When that didn't resolve the problem, they said I needed a new water pump and hoses, which failed to resolve the issue. Finally, they told me I needed a $4500 head gasket repair. At that, point, I sought a second opinion at the dealership. Only to learn the problem stemmed from the previous work, which had not be done properly. I am a teacher who cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars for "guesswork." Despite multiple chances, the shop has not offered any refund or attempt to make this right with me. At this point, based on the actions (or lack there of) of this shop, I no longer believe this is a case of gross incompetence. I believe it was done with intentional deceit and I can't with good conscience recommend this place to anyone.

I was hoping it was just a dying battery, since I have jumper cables, and that I could get this errand completed even if I had to beg a jump-start from some stranger. Alas, it was not the battery, but the alternator, which had failed -- meaning no more juice was going into the battery, and my car therefore went completely dead about 10 minutes from my destination. But I coasted to a stop -- with the engine dead, no power steering, no dashboard lights at all -- into the parking lot of Deerfield Auto Repair & Kwik Kar. Owner Joe Fallin and his capable staff promptly diagnosed my problem and gave me a fair estimate. They replaced my alternator and battery both (never keep an old battery with a new alternator!) within the estimated time, about three hours, and hosted me in the meantime in a clean and well-appointed waiting room (easy to maintain pandemic-driven social distancing). Friendly, competent, honest, diligent -- fate delivered me into good hands, and I'm happy to recommend them to anyone.

Later, I was told that the windshield had already been ordered and that I would be charged a $133.80 restocking fee if I didn't proceed. I was extremely frustrated because I had only been requesting information and had explicitly said I had not made a decision. Customers should be clearly informed and asked for authorization before parts are ordered that could result in a fee. Very disappointing experience.

The mechanic, Willie, was rude and appeared frustrated, tried to pressure me about brakes I didn't request, and repeatedly called me approximately four times back-to-back, even texting me while I was still at the shop -- luckily, I keep unknown callers on silent. They put the wrong oil (5W20 instead of the required 0W20, which is stamped on my oil cap) into my car without asking. I immediately called my usual mechanic, who confirmed that using the wrong viscosity can damage my engine. The oil filter was changed at the same time, meaning it now contains the wrong oil and should be replaced again, but the shop refused to do so. To make matters worse, the owner (I assume) tried to grab my receipt and nervously laughed when I took a picture documenting the mistake. They even left my car running with the windows down after the error was "corrected," creating a safety risk. This shop is careless, disrespectful, and clearly assumes women customers don't know anything about their cars. Women are fully capable of reading manufacturer recommendations and recognizing when something isn't right. I will never return and strongly caution others. I now have to closely monitor my vehicle to ensure it was corrected properly. Willie claimed he was "trying to help," but disregarding manufacturer recommendations is completely unacceptable. For the safety of both your vehicle and your sanity, I strongly advise going somewhere else.
