I'm really sad to have to write this negative review. AutoWorks has been working on my Tesla door handle since my first appointment on February 3rd. They said I needed a new door handle (which turned out to not be the problem)I paid in advance for the full repair. My car was in and out of their shop 6 times and they were never able to make the repair. I was unable to open my driver's door, kind of a problem I finally said may really sad I have to write this negative review. I have been very understanding and patient inspite of having to bring my car in 6 times and leave it and make transportation arrangements. AutoWork advertises they are proficient in working on Tesla's, I would strongly disagree with that. Tesla in Chico was able to make the repair, it was not the door handle that was the problem. read more

Autoworks tried to determine why our locking system wasn't working on our 23 year old Toyota. They had the car for several hours and couldn't diagnose the issue. But they didn't charge us! And they made a suggestion as to what we could do to fix it! Thanks guys! read more

I took my Subaru to Autoworks, and it was the absolute worst experience experience ever. At first, they told me it was going to be 200 dollars to diagnosis my transmission. Then they came back and said it would be an additional 400 dollars. So, a total of $600 to tell me the valve body was bad. Then they quoted 2338 to replace the valve body and do a transmission flush. I called a Subaru shop in San Jose and for the same exact quote their quote was $1957. They also quoted me 20 quarts of fluid because the fluid was so dirty. The shop did a video of the fluid and it wasn't that bad. The shop only used 12 quarts of fluid. Autoworks marked up the parts way over list price. So I always have a bit of anxiousness when going to car shops any sort since I have very little auto knowledge, but I tried this place out based on my mom and aunts recommendation. This shop is awesome! Andy, the owner, was super kind and genuinely honest in helping me. I knew I needed a new battery and thought I needed my alternator looked at, but he assured me that it was just a battery issue. He took the time to explain the issue and made a few calls around to get a new battery delivered within 30 minutes. As one can see by my small amount of reviews I usually only will leave a review if the place is great or if it's terrible. Autoworks is one of the true great finds for getting a repair done and I was very impressed with the work. The business is family run and owned and the mechanics know their stuff. Andy the owner is a very honest dude and never promised anything that he couldn't deliver on. There were a lot of cars getting work done there and I can see why. I was told by a friend about the place and saw the reviews and was sold on the place. There were multiple problems but the head gasket on my Prius finally gave out at 180.000 miles and it is a known problem which the computer system code established also so I kinda knew what to expect. I was quoted a fair price and when all the work was completed my car drove like new. It's hard to find a business like this anymore and it's a shame that there aren't more. Though Auto Works specialty is in customizing off road vehicles, they also do auto repairs. We made an appointment and took our Buick Enclave to them to have broken interior trim parts replaced. When we arrived for our appointment, we were greeted and told they'd call us when the car was done. The repairs were completed on schedule and when the car was ready for pick up, they notified us. The work was professionally completed in a very timely manner as shown by the invoice. This shop's owner and staff are friendly and knowledgeable and even called a week after the repair was completed to make sure everything was ok! I will recommend Auto Works to family and friends! He repaired my air conditioning system, and afterwards, I had some issues with a belt making some noise. Andy has taken the car back in twice at no charge, and found the problem. They looked at everything so that nothing would be missed and gave me a fair price for my brakes (at least compared to past fixes at other places. Can't say enough about Andy and the guys are FD. Maintenance, repairs, breakdowns- things I hate and make me regret my lunch. But not since coming here- these guys are TOP NOTCH!! They literally moved their schedule around to get my car fixed up and back on the road, and they gave me additional work to follow up on but they weren't pushy about getting it done right then and there. I couldn't recommend this mechanic enough! My mom and I were having major engine issues while on a road trip from San Diego to Portland and every shop was booked out a week, including Andy and Joy at Autoworks, but they took us in and made sure our car was ready to get back on the road in a few hours. They were kind, gracious and did a fantastic job. My car is running better than ever thanks to their team. Their kind energy made the stress of car troubles on a big trip disappear, and even drove us to and from our hotel. We accidentally refilled the tank with DEF(Diesel Emission Fluid) on the Independence Day in our Sienna gas tank and lost the power after one mile of driving. I called many shops in town but most of them closed or booked due to holiday. Autoworks owner, Andy answered my call and offered the help. He is very patient and check out the root cause of the issue. He even provided me a free loaner car so I can drive around during the repair. His charge is fairly reasonable and service is fast after parts arrived. He even called me the next day after I drove back to SF bay area to make sure everything is going well. Andy and Auto works were incredibly helpful, honest, technically skilled and time efficient. When our van quit running, we had another automotive shop in Redding make a diagnosis and give us an estimate for $1982. It seemed absurd and so we looked for another shop and based on the good reviews Andy had, we called him and described the situation. He also thought it sounded way too high and said he could fix it for a lot less. We had the van towed to him and Andy diagnosed it correctly, fixed the problem for a very reasonable price and in a timely manner. What a relief to have honest and capable mechanics. We're grateful to have found them in Redding and we plan to use them for our future auto needs. read more

I was referred by somebody and was quoted that the diagnosis would run between $75-125. Rather than just replace parts Andy spoke a good game on the phone for the intitial "sale". I believed him and wanted to believe the whole stream of what I was being told and what I observed that transpired over the course of 3 days, with a final result of my car being in worse driving condition, showing 2 codes now instead of just1 code, and a bill for over $700. On the first day he tole me he'd call with the diagnosis, but when I called (he did not call me) he said a bunch of stuff to sound technical and summed it up as the solenoid switch and harness need to be replaced. He said nothing about the price of the diagnosis and when I actually asked to follow up on what was said before, he said "he's got it all torn apart now and he'd working on it. He also said that he only charged me 60 for the diagnosis. But it wasn't even diagnosed. He just replaced the part that his subscription mechanic database suggested because it's the cause the majority of the time. He charged me over 400 for a simple part held by two bolts and a connector, of which none was difficult to get to. Anybody could have replaced that part themselves. But I wanted to do it right and check all the possible causes, including the oil pressure itself. So he told me it was all fixed and it did drive better. I could feel a marked difference with the VTEC now functioning . I was happy, but then 50 miles later the check engine light came back on. I had to stop my road trip and go back. The mechanic was rude to me and the other, blond one, was a total a...hole. I felt like these guys are only on your side if the money is coming in and you were no trouble. Having concern to fix the car for the customers needs wasn't even on the radar. I observed their dealings with other customers too. They see those engine lights as the same as casino goers see the slot machines when they're winning. They took time to simply replace the part and after the mechanic drove the car (no telling how hard as he was mentioning the transmission the day before (I get the feeling that his "true" job is to hunt down any conceivable problems that can be documented as a legitimate fix in the profession, i.e. cya. This was evidenced by the verbage and the way the service report was written. It was everything to make them look good and nothing that could shed light on their lack of thoroughness to make sure what they are doing is the indeed the best thing for the customer, as the customer see fit. Everything was shrouded in vagaries and there were contradictions. In the end, I backed the owner into a logical wall that occurred to me just before they tried to take more money from me. He said the VTEC should actually work right now, until the transmission code turns it back off. "Ok let me verify," because it simply didn't logically add up. I personally thing his mechanic actually lies for him and they have a system. He doesn't disclose something that isn't really fixed if they can get away with it. They sure wanted me out of there when I started asking questions and behaving less like a 'good sheep'. These guys are unscrupulous in my world. Maybe in California that is just the way everybody gets used to. The fact is my vtec problem is probably low oil pressure, which could easily be caused by the oil pan that was shown to me. Nothing was stated to clue me in on the significance or what he thinks about it. He just showed me. Again, this was a CYA tactic. I could say more but it's too much. They took my time, tried to take my money (but was actually unauthorized I never gave a go ahead on part of it, and worst of all, took a car that just got me a 1000 miles and made it drive like I'm afraid it might not make it at any time.... They seem like they know they have some ability to take advantage of people and they've lost sight in quality of the job, that of tlc for a vehicle. Nothing like that.... These people really messed up my outlook on this part of the world. All about buying Tesla's that won't break down mechanically. Manipulators. Bad, bad men. read more

I highly recommend FD Autoworks for their technical skill and their customer service. For a couple of years, I've had a rain leak where water was coming into my Chevy Silverado's cab. I could never figure out where the water was coming from but my driver's side floor was always soaked after a rain. I took the car to an automotive repair shop in town but they could not find the leak. They referred me to a glass repair shop who told me it was likely not the windows. The glass repair shop referred me to an auto body shop. The auto body shop referred me to FD Autoworks. Before I found FD Autoworks, literally no other shop I talked to knew how or wanted to deal with a rain leak in my cab. FD Autoworks agreed immediately to try and find the leak. They sounded like they knew what they were talking about and they did. They found the rear side windows leaking and in addition the rear window seal was leaking. These leaks were coming in under the interior molding and the water was traveling all the way under cover before it would soak my drivers side carpet. Not easy leaks to find. But find and fix them, they did. They also came and picked up my truck to work on it. No extra charge. Oh and my windshield wipers were kind of ratty and they took it on themselves to replace these for me no charge! I felt their prices for the leak repair were reasonable too. So if you want an honest mechanic with technical skill and good customer service, give FD Autoworks a try. I know I appreciate what they did for me and I plan to use them for my next auto repair. read more

We received the best possible service from Andy, the owner when my daughters VW Passat broke down near Redding on our way from Oregon to Southern California. We had the car towed to Autoworks and as soon as I met Andy I knew we brought it to the right place. He immediately ran a diagnostic on the car and had the car fixed in no time. It turned out to be an easy fix that was related to work we had done at the VW dealer a week prior to the trip. My husband and I were traveling through Redding when our van suddenly developed a frightening loud noise. While we were waiting for a tow truck I looked on Yelp for a mechanic. I was feeling stressed and confused and just picked out one with high ratings. FD Autoworks ended up as my choice. The office is clean with comfortable seating, and the workers took our car in immediately, hoping to get us back on the road soon. The problem turned out to be very serious and it ended up with a wait for parts. We were pleasantly surprised when we started to leave to find out that there was a warranty for the work they had done even when we left the area.
