But what really caught my eye was the ceviche they had available. The service was good, she showed us the difference between the Ecuadorian and Peruvian ceviche that we were interested in trying. Both were seasoned very well, but my friend's Peruvian ceviche was definitely the headlining item for her. It was actually her first time having ceviche with fish, and I think it was a pretty good introduction. We also got a very generous portion, which I always appreciate when trying something new that I end to enjoying. All in all, we really enjoyed the ceviche and would definitely return to Andes Café to try some of the other items on the menu. But for sure, the ceviche will be making a repeat appearance on our next visit.

I have been a regular customer at Gloria's, which makes the way this was handled even more…read moreunacceptable. Within 3-5 minutes of my arrival, the valet driver, Gustavo, was involved in an accident in my BMW that caused substantial damage. Valet staff and restaurant management knew there had been an accident, yet no one came to notify me. I sat in the restaurant for more than 90 minutes completely unaware that my vehicle had been damaged. I found out only when I was leaving, when Gustavo approached me with, "Don't get an attitude, I had an accident in your car." That was his opening statement. Not an apology. Not "Are you okay?" Not "We need to speak with you." He damaged my property and somehow I was the one being warned about my attitude. He then became combative, raised his voice at me, and presented himself as though he were management. The level of audacity was almost impressive. Restaurant management did not handle it much better. Johnathan and Jose both acknowledged that I am a regular and recognized my face, yet management showed very little urgency, offered no meaningful acknowledgment of what had happened, and did not even offer to comp my meal. No, a complimentary dinner would not fix a BMW. It would, however, have demonstrated basic hospitality after allowing a regular customer to unknowingly eat dinner for 90 minutes while his vehicle sat outside damaged. The communication afterward with Cedars Valet was even more concerning. Mohammed, Cedars Valet President acknowledged in writing, "we admit what we did" and initially stated, "Rest assure we will cover our damage." Yet the conversation quickly shifted to Cedars attempting to decide, before BMW has even completed their inspection, which portions of the damage they would and would not accept responsibility for. Interesting approach considering Cedars had possession of my vehicle when the accident occurred. Accidents can happen. What does not have to happen is failing to notify the customer, allowing them to sit inside for an hour and a half, greeting them with hostility when they finally discover it, and then immediately trying to minimize the damage afterward. If you valet at Gloria's, understand the risk is apparently not limited to whether your vehicle gets damaged. Pay very close attention to how you may be treated once it does. As someone who regularly patronized this restaurant, I expected significantly better. The accident was bad enough. The lack of transparency, professionalism, accountability, and basic customer care afterward is what made the experience truly unacceptable.

From the moment I stepped into this cozy spot, I instantly felt like I was back home in Puerto Rico. Just like our island, it's small, but filled with a huge heart. We spent time chatting with them about our families, childhood memories, and how happy we are that they've kept our culture alive right here in the Montrose area of Houston. We enjoyed a true Puerto Rican feast: arroz con gandules, pernil, mofongo con camarones al ajillo, pollo frito, empanadas de yuca y masa, flan de coco, limber de guanábana, and of course, more food to take home because we couldn't have it all at once! My personal favorite were the limbers with traditional flavors I don't recall ever having a limber outside of PR. This is a counter-service eatery, where you can see all the freshly prepared dishes right in front of you. You truly can't ask for better service; if there's something you're craving that's not in the menu for that day and they have time, they'll gladly make it for you! That's the kind of love and care you only find in places that cook from the heart. Prices are very reasonable although parking can be a bit tricky but that's mostly all of Montrose. It took me over a year to realize Gusto Gourmet was more than just a cute cafe but a legit option…read morefor Venezuelan cuisine. Their unique position as one of the only Venezuelan spots in the loop becomes even more niche when one realizes that part of the menu is also Mediterranean / Middle Eastern (#1). If that's not Houston in a nutshell, I don't know what is. The place sports a casual vibe with a clean and bright interior. It's been practically empty with every visit, but I suspect the takeout game is strong here. There is limited parking in the back of the restaurant and the narrow alleyway entrance is somewhat easy to miss. Food wise, I am not disappointed. Their cheese cachapa is the stuff of dreams and includes a number of stuffings from ham to shredded chicken / beef. My vote is for their pabellón, which is a nice combination of shredded beef, black beans, and sweet plantains. For cheese lovers, the double cheese is perfectly indulgent with the sweetness of the cornmeal. The main draw for me was the arepas, which is something I missed having had so much of it back in NYC. La Pelua (shredded beef, mixed shredded cheese) is one of my go-tos, but my all-time favorite is the reina pepiada, a shredded chicken mixed with avocado topped with sprinkled salty white cheese. It's a staple in the Venezuelan arepa game and while their version is very solid, I'm just extremely thankful that it's available. Their breakfast platters are a big draw, which mainly consist of scrambled egg combos paired with arepas and various proteins. I think their yuca buñelos, tequeños, patacones, and especially their mandocas are incredibly underrated. The latter is practically dessert since it's mashed plantains with the cachapa stuffed with sugar and cheese. While they're not known for their empanadas, I do think their cazon (#2) is unique and their potato and cheese is always hearty. The shredded beef is a nice alternative to their arepas or arepitas (side) and make for an excellent snack on the go. Fans of Venezuelan cuisine who find themselves in the inner loop owe them a visit and I highly recommend calling ahead of time to ensure they have items available and to get a jump on the wait time for takeout. They are a slept on gem in the neighborhood and one that I hope sticks around for a very long time. _____________ (#1) The owners are Venezuelan and Syrian. The sweetest couple. (#2) Dogfish? It's really a mini shark.

The enchiladas were very soft and cooked well. The cheese was thick and the sauces were very aromatic. The ancho was more on the salty and savory sides rather than sweet. The cilantro cream was earthy, salty and tangy to the right degree. I really liked the well-cooked, tender bell pepper n red onions in the filling. The chicken in each wrap was very juicy, marinated nicely, dark meat and very flavorful. Thick like fajita, but taste, texture and appearance like hunks of pulled chicken off the bone. The black beans were chunky and spiced well. The rice was very moist, buttery and mildly seasoned making a highly addictive side with the enchiladas. The service was very welcoming, friendly and efficient. I need to try their bread pudding with whisky sauce for dessert, which is made in house here next time I come since that's one of my favorite desserts anyway.

They have parking in a big garage across the street, or a much smaller paid lot in front of the building. They have the fancy license plate readers, so you can pay before you get to the gate. For HRW this year, Lymbar just took their entire menu and split it up. Most places will offer you something adjusted from their menu, a special item, or a limited amount of options specifically for HRW. This was not the case here. We also came during happy hour, which allowed us to try even more things without breaking the bank. To start, we ordered their ceviche. Delicious, flavorful, good quantity. The sweet potato was a great medium for a different take. The Crab and Shrimp Tostada. The chip wasn't crisp, but the flavor of the beans and the tostada were great. The Devil Wings. Very flavorful glaze on the wings, the sauce was a tzatziki ranch. Light and tasty. Lobster Twinkies. Our least favorite. Tiny fried brioche. Salad was not flavorful. It tasted more like the filler than it did lobster. The bisque tasted more like oat milk than a lobster bisque. The Rosespud. Basically a refund chips and salsa. beet, plantain & potato chip planks, chive-onion dip & romesco sauce. The chive-onion tastes more like a light olive oil. Loved the chips by themselves, not so much the dips. Ta-cones. Very tasty little things. The meat goes to about half cone. Great texture and flavors mix well. Osao Bucco Mole negro, polenta souffle, roasted carrot & fennel, pickled onion. The carrots were undercooked, but the rest was delightful and filling. Definitely a heavy dish, most of the flavors just combined, versus a medley. It could have used something to accompany it. But really enjoyed it otherwise! Smoked Lamb Lollichops Chimichurri, chili chipotle glaze, vermicelli rice, roasted tomato. This had a delightful array of flavor, and it hit all the notes. The meat was perfectly cooked, and that little bit of char is my favorite. This was by far the favorite entree of the evening. Filete En Mole Verde Grilled petite filet, mole pipian, char roasted broccolini, vermicelli rice, house sourdough flatbread. This was a solid steak. On any day where we were just having a steak, this would be great. But compared to the lamb, it was probably our least favorite of the evening. Still very good though. Then there was dessert... Tequila Bread Pudding Vanilla anglaise, walnut cherry chutney. This was the favorite across the table. It had a very rich and full flavor, and the texture matched perfectly. Perfectly. We were full, but this could not be denied. Highly recommend. Sticky Toffee Pudding Warm brown sugar date cake, brown butter toffee, whipped mascarpone. A very close second in the desert category. This was a much more dense dessert, and in my opinion quite a bit heavier on the sweetness. This could almost be comparable to a light gingerbread. Take this down with some coffee. We also went around the table for cocktails during happy hour. My first old fashioned was a little on the sweeter side, so when I ordered afterwards I asked specifically for a less sweet variant and they did not disappoint. Well done! Overall we had a great evening and a ton of food. Whenever we all get together we earn our next trip to the gym. Service was a little slow to start but once the food started coming it didn't slow down. We were very happy with our evening out. Would absolutely go again and might make this an annual event.
