My physician uses this facility for prodcedures. Up bright and early with the building opening at 6am, someone comes down to unlock. The lobby is on the second floor and there were two windows for check in. When you were up, they used the loud speaker (too much for 6am and only 2 people in the lobby) to call out your name. Sheesh. Fill out of the forms and tagged for the procedure had to wait to be called back. All the staff were professional and polite with no issue throughout the process. Afterwards, recovery was simple and they walked you out of the building to confirm you were safely in your transportation home. read more

Her PCP had referred her to another doctor, but since this location was closer, we decided to go there instead. Unfortunately, I will never return. They told her that due to her age, there was nothing they could do and simply sent her home. As someone who works in the medical field, I found this incredibly disheartening. I obtained another referral to the doctor she normally sees, and he has been able to work with her and provide appropriate care. I mentioned a had a little headache before they put me under and they said it could be due to not having coffee. I agreed that was likely. My doctor referred me to this place, but they do not personally call you to schedule a visit. They want you to download an app to recieve a message for you to schedule an appointment. If you try to contact someone, the bot system does not even work. It is all very impersonal, and I can't imagine going to a place that could careless about contacting you regarding your health. They sent us to the wrong location for my daughter's colonoscopy. The form they gave her stated the Shoal Creek location but after signing in they told her it was the Bee Cave location, 40 minutes on the other side of Travis County during rush hour. When we arrived they told us we went to the wrong location despite us showing the document. My daughter was already anxious (and hungry) about having her first colonoscopy in her twenties and they made the experience much worse by screwing up. No apology either. read more

One suggested a possible cause, but moved on quickly without suggesting any remedy. Very superficial attention to symptoms. If they suggested I try something and I told them I'd already tried it with no improvement, they ignored me. They gave incomplete instructions, so it was difficult to follow through on recommendations. read more

I regret having to leave a negative review, but my experience with Dr. Lubin's office at Austin Gastro has been highly disappointing. The doctor may be competent, but the staff's inability to provide essential patient support overshadows any positives. Calls to schedule appointments go unreturned, emails are unanswered, and there's no follow-up, even in urgent situations. I have waited over 9 weeks, and still no response (and yes, I am a current patient of Dr. Lubin). In the meantime, I contacted a different Gastro practice at Baylor Scott & White, who got me in within 2 days, scheduled my procedure, and have already done the follow-up. When dealing with severe gastrointestinal issues, timely and responsive communication is critical, and Austin Gastro fails spectacularly. It is unacceptable and inexcusable to leave patients feeling neglected and unheard, especially when they are in distress. Although Dr Dalapathi is very good , I am deeply disappointed in the delayed response of his medical staff for critical questions regarding serious medical conditions. They did not try to phone or text with critical info regarding important test results and also sent incomplete answers via their web portal for questions left via phone and portal where specifically asking for a phone call. My severe colitis returned as a result of taking an Edema supplement which i later learned contained laxative ingredients, I was taking medication for a long time to address the colitis and continued to do so daily. I asked the Dr. for help with the new development. The response was for me to make an appointment; I did so, over 30 days away. I sent another message that my conditional was urgent only to be told a new prescription had been issued for the same medication I was taking on a daily basis. Really disappointed with my experience. I went to the GI clinic and was assigned to Dr. David Kim after having esophageal problems: difficulty swallowing, terrible acid reflux, and an inability to burp. Dr. Kim was focused on my colon and said I was due for a colonoscopy when all I wanted was help for my throat. He confirmed that lab showed I had a small hiatal hernia and yet he still completely dismissed all of my esophageal problems and said everything from the endoscopy was fine. He showed all kinds of results from my colon which was actually fine. I'm now being treated elsewhere. Dr. Kim traeated me like a number, not a person, and didn't take any of my concerns seriously. I initially posted reviews on Dr. Tau's review site. I got him mixed up with Dr. Kim which should further illustrate the complete lack of care demonstrated for me to not even know who my doctor was. I have never had a harder time trying to get a person on the phone to schedule a procedure. No one answers and then takes forever to call you back. The last time I talked with a scheduler she loaded me with excuses about how she's been out of town -- how unprofessional for this sort of business. I had a bad experience. Of all the preps available, they prescribed one that caused intestinal bleeding. They even acknowledged it happens roughly 20% of the time. Also, the prep was not covered under my insurance and cost $166. The person I spoke to at the Dr's office said they had no idea how much the prep costs (wow really?). The person said I had time to request the Dr's office to request an authorization from the insurance. That was false, I picked up the prep on a Saturday, and the procedure was Monday morning. I felt a real lack of respect and concern. Lastly, I was hung up on. I'll be taking my business else where. read more

My doctor of 15 years retired this year. I chose to move my care to Dr. V. Sumana Kumarappa. She was rushed and dismissive the entire (very short) appointment. She cut me off and talked over me multiple times. I have 15 years of experience dealing with the issue we were discussing. (15 years of tests, procedures, appointments, blood work, etc.) She dismissed my comments and experience as though I were a young child. I was fat-shamed and repeatedly told things that I have known and dealt with for 15 years. At no point did I feel like Dr. Kumarappa viewed me as anything but a paycheck and a waste of her time. I have NEVER left an appointment at Austin Gastro feeling so dismissed and frustrated. Dr. William Stassen and PA Jessica Langston always made me feel valued and heard as a patient. (The staff at Wyoming Springs and Hero Way have always been lovely and competent.) I will never book an appointment with Dr. Kumarappa again and I will never recommend her to anyone else. read more

Going to the gastroenterologist can be a vulnerable experience, so I'd expect more measures to be taken to ensure my comfort than I'd expect in a regular primary care setting. This all stemmed from a simple request regarding my preferred name--my name is a nickname and I prefer to go by the longer form of the name. I usually go to ARC for all my medical needs and it has never been an issue to note my preferred name in their system. But at Austin Gastro, it was a nightmare. I told them my preferred name in their message center when they followed up regarding some documentation they needed me to submit, and they did not acknowledge it. No "there's no place to enter your preferred name but we'll make note of it in your chart" or "unfortunately we can only use your legal name per policy". When they responded to my message, they referred to me by my preferred name though, so I thought it had been notated somewhere. When I showed up for my appointment, I was called by my legal name, which I was willing to let go, but the receptionist specifically mentioned my legal first name and how "cute" it was. I brushed it off. Then when the nurse called me back, she specifically mentioned my legal first name again, and said it was "unique" and asked if it was short for something. I told her I mentioned in the portal that I preferred to go by the longer form of the name, and she brushed it off saying she thinks she remembers noting in my chart that I preferred that name but that she didn't look at my chart before she came in. She said something about how they use a patient's legal name for insurance purposes, and I told her I don't have any issues using my preferred name at ARC and she said "well that's Austin Regional Clinic" with a hint of disdain. At this point I regretted even mentioning my preferred name at all, I wouldn't have bothered if I knew how much trouble it would cause. I'm not trans, just a girl with a nickname for a name trying to feel more professional as an adult, but this whole experience could have been very distressing if I was trans and they were constantly dead-naming me. For a specialty that requires a patient to be highly vulnerable, you'd think they'd do more to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. I don't normally make reviews, but hopefully this will help a more vulnerable person avoid this practice. read more

I do not recommend Austin Gastro. My impression is they either do not know what they are doing and/or only care about your money. I had a stomach infection which should have been diagnosed with a quick non-invasive test. They did stool tests for everything but that. Then they ignored my suggestion to test for it and had me do a colonoscopy as a healthy 25 year old (cost insurance $10K). My colon was healthy so they weren't as responsive and prescribed me medicine to cover a problem I didn't have. I pushed them for 2 months to take the stomach infection test (which came back positive) and then had to push them again to prescribe me the antibiotic for my condition. Then they charged me for a follow up call asking how I was doing after treatment (another $180 from my insurance). read more

First I want to say that I see Dr. Lubin, and he is wonderful. For that reason alone, I will stay with Austin Gastro. His PA, Mikel, is also wonderful. However, the rest of the experience with this office is absolutely horrible. You're treated a bit like cattle. Once you've seen your doctor and it's time to book a procedure, you're shuffled through a process to tell you how much the procedure will cost. The people you deal with are absolutely unfeeling and cold. They act like everyone should have enough money to shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars for a procedure, with no option of a payment plan. I've left crying every single time I've had to deal with these people. They are ruthlessly, unapologetically cold. In addition, Austin Gastro farms out their pathology to third party vendors. The only way to know that is once you receive a bill from a third party with no explanation. When I called to ask about this and spoke with someone in Austin Gastro's billing department, she acted like it was my fault for not knowing this vendor and for not having filed my insurance with them. Not sure how it's possible to file insurance with a company I didn't know existed. read more

Went for an initial visit & was then asked to schedule procedure for the following week. Since I had to make sure I could get time off work, I asked if I could get back in just a bit once I arranged time off. I was given the schedulers number and told it would be no problem. I arranged time off from work for one of the dates I was given and tried calling the scheduler back within a couple hours. However, she never answered the calls (I made at least 6) and never returned my call until my 7th or 8th call over 48 hours later & after having to go thru several receptionists to make sure she would respond. When she finally did call back, she had no times available that were discussed during my visit and nothing that worked with my work schedule. She was completely indifferent and took no accountability for her failures to be available or respond timely. If this is representative of how this clinic operates, I definitely will not trust them with medical procedures or any following care. I don't usually write reviews for doctors appointments, but I see so many reviews I disagree with, I felt compelled. I saw Dr. Scott Becker at the James Casey office. He came highly recommended by medical professionals. I will start by saying, I am probably a nightmare patient. I'm not particularly trusting. I have medication allergies. I am gluten-free and vegan. I ask all kinds of questions. I am whiny about colonoscopy prep. Generally, I am high maintenance. This was my first colonoscopy. I put it off almost 10 years after it's recommended. (Because, you know, all of the above issues.) I was there, grudgingly because my mother nagged me. Despite that, my experience with Dr. Becker, the office staff, and the consultants/schedulers was fantastic. I found Dr. Becker to be quite charming, personable, and easy to talk with. I asked a LOT of questions. He was patient in answering them, and even had a sense of humor about some of my paranoias. The procedure itself was on time, professional, and uneventful. Even the anesthesiologist was particularly compassionate about my IV issues. The last thing I remember before counting down was a cute joke. I wish I could remember the name of the staff member that scheduled the procedure, and talked to me about the prep. She was amazingly accommodating. I could not/do not, eat the majority of the things on the soft food prep list. I am gluten-free, vegan, and avoid sugar. So, the clear liquid food list was problematic. She came up with fantastic ideas for hydration (coconut water), healthy, clear liquid options, and alternatives to the standard junk food low fiber diet. Brilliant! I was very resistant to the idea of the standard prep. Dr. Becker recommended one he thought would be best, and I ended up using it, hesitantly. It was much less miserable than expected and non-traumatic. Overall, it ended being lots of mental stress about nothing. The appointment was pleasant, the prep was simple and straightforward, and the procedure was quick and painless. I was back to obsessing needlessly about other things, in no time. So take my advice, buck up, and get your colonoscopy done. Follow the advice they give you. And, take some responsibility for your own treatment, and ask questions if you have them. read more

This place is great, and Dr. Kumar is fantastic! Caring and professional. I felt like he took the time to analyze my condition and provide (and rule out) potential causes. He is also very big on long term preventative health care, such as colonoscopies, and he double checked to make sure of what my status was. I was also in and out in FIFTEEN MINUTES! Almost the whole time was with the physician. Great service in a field where it often gets overlooked. The only caution: in-person visits (and online appointments) are booked out pretty far in advance (maybe in part Covid related), so book early. read more

I want someone who specializes in the concern I have rather than a generalist and 2. I wanted to see a female doctor. Well, they won't allow me to see a doctor of my choosing without "taking it to management to get an official approval." WHAT?? I have to get management to approve me seeing the doctor of MY choosing? Apparently, it's our fault that they don't check their messages. They still insist we owe a no-show fee even though we called about the cancellation within the cancellation window. Take note that there are 18 pages of 1 star reviews ALL telling the same story. The office manager responds to every bad review. "we strive to do better, blah blah blah". I stopped counting how many times i read that sentence by the 13th page of awful reviews. If you've been getting the same consistent bad feedback for this many years..... ARE YOU STRIVING TO DO BETTER? This place's main motivation is to keep 60 colonoscopies/endo's on the book every day of the week. That's it. Feels like they are meeting a quota. I scheduled the same procedure twice with the same insurance (same deductible cycle) and was given a different dollar amount for the part i owed on the day of SIX times. Every employee I spoke with gave me a wildly different number. After I cancelled, they sent me an email with a NEW number, letting me know they hadn't verified with insurance and I might be responsible for the entire balance day of my procedure. I can't tell if it's dishonesty or incompetence, but it feels like more than anyone should be asked to deal with. I'm headed to Baylor Scott and White in Buda to start all over again because i wasted a year trying to get BASIC care here. AVOID AT ANY COST Here's my timeline, I'd be willing to bet a lot of others folks had the same experience. 1.)You get a referral to a doc at AG. 2.)You call and make an appt 4+ months out. 3.) They call and say they have a PA that can see you in 1 month or less 4.)You go to a quick appt and are told you need a colonoscopy AND and endoscopy to be safe in less than 10 minutes of meeting your new doctor. 5.)You go sit down with the billing department (who is somehow in charge of quickly giving the prep steps for the procedure while you're signing paperwork). 6.) You get the absolute run around. How much this will cost? How much money do you need to bring? Is this approved with my insurance? I showed up with fresh CT scans ready to talk about what i needed and the PA didn't look at them,(until i scheduled a second visit and insisted) and told me they needed the procedures before they could have ANY idea what could be wrong with me. I was unhappy with the bedside manner of the first two. My friend suggested her doctor at Austin Gastroenterology. I asked to switch a third time. I was not "approved" and was told to go somewhere else. I was also told that I was not allowed to return...ever. I was really suffering with intestinal issues and needed to be seen. Doctor Dalton dismissed for 5 YEARS my concerns about my stomach. Every time I asked a question about the results of my exams her staff said "you must schedule an appointment" which means, every time you need a routine test, you'll have to pay three appointments: the one before, the one for the test, and the one for the answers about the test. They will withhold info about your tests to force you to another extra unnecessary appointment. And when at the appointment, she dismissed my pain and tell me all the time that I got nothing. Lack of compassion: last appointment, I made it 1 MINUTE late and Dr. Dalton dismissed me because she doesn't have time for me, her patient of 5 years. But I had to wait for long periods of time for appointments, calls, tests... cannot tell you how many times had to cancel plans because her appointments are never on time. Heartless and cruel. And staff quite incompetent. Asked for medical records to find out a bunch of diagnosis she never spoke to me about. I have a pre-cancerous condition. Would have been addressed with a medical service not as poor as the one she provides. Also, three years ago they sent me a bill they forgot to send me when performing the endoscopy. The anesthesia, which was 2,000 dollars. Not even a call, they sent it straight to collection. Cannot tell you how much distress this bad, sort of illegal practice has caused to me. They should be lawsuit for many reasons. If someone here thinks of doing that, count on me. read more
