Eye doctor
Austin H.

Seriously, these people have absolutely no respect For other people's time! Every single appointment we have had with them they've been almost an hour late! No apologies, no explanations-nothing! Our last appointment I physically SAW the doctor come into the office 45 mins AFTER my husband had already gone back! FOURTY FIVE MINUTES!

Sherry M.

They do cataract surgery with professionalism and heart. Can recommend Dr Wong without hesitation. While their surgical center was way south from where I live, my follow-ups were right around the corner on Jollyville Road. Totally remodeled building and they even thought of their cyclist patients with bike racks.

Five years ago I had Ling's replacement surgery with Dr. John Odette at Austin eye. The results are still miserable.

Ask the Community - Austin Eye

Do you take Bluecross blue shield?

Yes we do!

Approximately how much to correct for no reading glasses and do they take HUMANA Plus insurance?

The cost per eye will vary based on your examination, condition of your eyes, surgical option and insurance deductible. Basically the cost will vary between $0-6100/eye. In order to obtain an accurate estimate, we would need to examine your eyes.

For ten years I've struggled with my bottom lashes growing up into my eye. This was not my first visit with an eye care professional in those ten years. But this was the first time I found out anything could be done about them. Julie offered, I acepted a bit skeptically. She was apologetic for every lash hair she plucked out though only two hurt. She was more concerned about getting every hair than I was. After leaving and the irritation settled down, i kept turning to my friends like "It feels like my eyes aren't there because I can't feel them for the first time in ten years." And I used to have to dab at my eyes every three minutes, but not anymore. My hands kept coming up to wipe phantom tears. I came in for an eye exam and new glasses because my frames just broke. I left with what felt like new eyes.

I decided to go to Dr. Soltys after doing a little Yelp research. I found two optometrists in the…read moresouth Austin area that were rated 5 stars. One was in a Walmart and the other was in the Barton Creek mall. I read the reviews and both seemed good. I chose Barton Creek mall because it was closer to my area. Overall I had a great experience as you can tell from my high rating. The only negative was having to walk through Sears to get there. The front desk was very professional and friendly. Once seated, I spent just a few minutes waiting for my appointment. There were videos playing on flat screens about various eye stuff. It was a bit scary I have to say, but I can understand it's helpful. The two assistants that did the pre-workup were professional as well. They were very attentive to my comfort and tried to make me feel at ease by asking questions about football, my job, my school etc. I hadn't been to an optometrist for a few years and the equipment and techniques seem to have been updated. For one, they took a photo of my eye with a laser beam. It was a little uncomfortable putting my eye up against the device and it made my eye water, but it was quick and painless. The two assistants took me into a patient room and did the standard stuff. They asked me about my eye history, did a reading of my current prescription from my current glasses, asked about medications and explained what the doctor was going to do once he started. This whole process took about 10 minutes. Once the doctor came in, he went over my pre-work and did an eye exam. I felt like he was very professional and thorough. He answered all of my questions. I have seen a lot of doctors in my life, and I am pretty hard on them and usually ask a lot of questions. I could tell right away that I liked him. Unfortunately for me, I had gotten a bit older and my prescription required bi-focals. I had never used them before and the Dr. explained my two options with lenses. You can do a progressive bi-focal which has a transition between the two prescriptions, or you can do a standard bi-focal. The Dr. recommended the progressive and I agreed. I had my prescription filled and I immediately realized that I could not work with progressive bi-focals. I called the office back and scheduled a followup. The office and Dr. were very nice and thorough again and it was no additional charge. I decided to have two glasses made, one with my distance prescription and one with my reading prescription. The cost was about the same as the progressive prescription. I have been happy with this solution so far, although I have to carry around an extra pair of reading glasses with me. I guess that is the price of old age.

I just happened to be in…read morethe Barton Square Mall and was looking at one of those chain eyeglass stores and asked someone there about optometrists. Both of the young employees enthusiastically recommended Dr. Soltys, although there are several other optometrists in the Barton Creek Mall. They were not just selling me, they really meant it. I like this office for several reasons. 1. Dr. Soltys is a really good optometrist. I've been to lots; I know 'em. The doc is excellent. Very professional. Very competent. 2. The office is open 7 days a week. There are other dr's there and I really like the idea that someone is always there in case of an emergency (retinal detachment, etc.) 3. They have state of the art equipment including a machine that takes picture of the back of your eye without need for dilation. It takes a cool digital picture that shows you what your cornea looks like for now and for future reference to show changes in your eye health. This is a great machine and I would never now go to an optometrist that did not have this technology. 3. Its in the Mall!! Easy parking and access. Good excuse to shop.

Unfortunately, what I expected to be a simple eye exam turned into a frustrating and unprofessional experience. When I booked my appointment, I specifically stated that I wanted **traditional pupil dilation**, not photo imaging. When I arrived for my 5pm appointment, I was told I had "signed up" for the $50 photo imaging instead -- which is **not covered by insurance**. I explained that I never agreed to this, but the staff told me that because I had a 5pm appointment, dilation would "run the doctor over schedule." That is not my responsibility, and it felt like pressure to accept an unnecessary upsell. From that point on, the experience felt rushed. The exam did not feel thorough, and I left feeling uncertain about the accuracy of my prescription. Sure enough, when I compared my results to last year's prescription, this year's exam claimed my vision had *improved* -- despite the fact that I came in specifically because my vision has felt worse. That raised major red flags about the quality of the exam. On top of this, the office aggressively pushed expensive add-ons -- from luxury frames costing thousands of dollars to lens upgrades -- which felt more like a sales floor than a medical practice. I later learned my coworker visited the same office the same day and had a similarly uncomfortable experience. We both work in the medical field, and we agreed this is not how patients should be treated. I called to speak with the manager afterward. No apology. No offer to re-check the exam. No attempt to resolve the situation. I've since spent over an hour on the phone with my insurance to arrange a second opinion elsewhere. If you're looking for patient-centered care and a thorough exam, I'd recommend going somewhere else.

In short, there have been multiple errors over many months, and I am not seeing LSE own and correct these errors in a reasonable way. I see from other reviews that errors and money grabs are a common theme here. (1) We discussed a specific contact lens Rx in the office, and then the wrong contacts lenses were ordered. When I attempted to reorder, it took months and multiple calls to receive the correct lenses. (2) When I went to fill my glasses Rx, I realized it was the wrong Rx. I called them to correct it, and they said since 60 days had passed, I would need to come back in and pay another $75. I was never even handed a copy of the Rx at the appointment, otherwise I would have realized the error on the spot, and we could have fixed it. They attempted to fix it by putting a random "Add" on the glasses, but I don't use reading glasses. I have asked them to own and correct this error, but they have dug in their heels on charging me another $75. I can't get a new - and correct - Rx for that elsewhere. Thankfully I noticed the error, and then the second error with the Add, or I would have been out hundreds of dollars on glasses I couldn't use.
