Stopped by visiting Tenino for the first time. Kate is so wonderful. She mentioned to my family and me that she just made sourdough. We bought some and a lot of chocolate. She's so sweet. We talked for a bit. Made us feel so welcomed. We got in the car and drove home. We started munching on the bread and chocolates. Omg the sourdough is DELICIOUS!!!! It was so good. We almost ate the whole bread. We got almost one of every chocolate. Everything was delicious. My favorite is Milk Chocolate Toffee. Definitely will be coming back. Definitely add this to your next stop You won't be disappointed. Again, thank you Kate for everything you're so sweet. My 1-year-old daughter was getting a little fussy and she gave her a chocolate. I stopped by today in hopes of buying a couple of cupcakes and had a wonderful conversation with Kate and learned how hard our economy has been on many of the Tenino-based businesses we've come to value and love like Aunt Kate's! Oh my word! YUM! I won a basket of delights, donated by my dear friend, Gretchen Borck, at a recent auction...OH HAPPY DAY! I admit I am a bit of a snob when it comes to chocolates and cake. It is a burden I must bear...and in this instance...HAPPILY! These chocolate confections are FANTASTIC! The pecan bark (both dark and milk chocolate) are clearly fresh and gorgeous! The orange ones, and I don't even usually care for those, are...were delightful! A small place but not to be overlooked. Homemade, handmade confections of exceptional quality and generous proportions. The chocolate oranges come with *two* jellies inside; the peanut butter cup seems to weigh a quarter pound; cranberry hearts are loaded with tart berries; and oh, the fudge! Slabs of rich, creamy chocolate as smooth as satin, studded with walnuts. Tenino is a quaint little town on Old Highway 99 about 20 minutes south of Olympia. Can't seem to comply with mandates that have been around long enough for everyone to know about...if you can't hear your customers then you need to get some hearing aids and ask people to speak up, not take off their mask. If you truly are hard-of-hearing, there are other options then making all your customers take off their masks just to be able to come into your store. read more

We went with our two grandchildren, 1 and 4. Kate was very sweet and helpful with them. We had the chocolate tasting and it was delicious. The chai tea in pretty china cups was special for our granddaughter. We purchased chocolates and didn't mind the price because the chocolates are homemade and delicious. On my frequent jet-setting trips between Paris, Milan, Beverly Hills, and Tenino, WA, I like to stop my private jet and sample the local haute cuisine and sweets. I entered the store with great expectations and the prices of the candy were very affordable on my multi-billionaire type budget. Pssssh.... fifty bucks a pound for chocolate we ultra rich people call that "poor people food". I purchased two average size pieces of chocolate, about three mouthfuls a piece and some sour worms, maybe four ounces. It came to a tad under sixteen dollars, and since I only carry thousand-dollar bills, one of my many servants found some small bills to pay the bill...... Seriously though...I've had better candy out of a Hershey bag.... Ridiculously overpriced candy 2x the price of Godiva and some high end brands. My dad and I came in to do a chocolate tasting last week. Kate was very friendly, sweet, and knowledgeable. It was very interesting just talking with her. Her chocolate was very good. My personal favorites were the orange jellies and the raspberry truffles. Definitely would recommend! :) read more

So yesterday my kids and I walked into the store excited about trying out this little place as we had just driven a far way to get to this little gem so to speak. I wish we hadn't, as soon as we walked in the lady came from the back and immediately told us no masks allowed in the store, we were taken back by this. My kids looked at me and I responded excuse me what did you say just to see if what I heard the first time was what I heard. She proceeded to tell me and my kids no mask are allowed in the store, at this point my daughter asked very politely "May I ask why?" mind you with my daughter mask still on. The lady said if you must know my medical issues I'm hearing impaired and I can't serve you if you have your mask on. Ok understandable right however, the tone and rudeness we got from her was totally unacceptable. If that's how you treat all your new customers you don't deserve to have a store. There is a better way to talk to customers. We just left and both my kids acknowledged that this behavior was just terrible kept talking about the fact that she didn't even say hello or welcome how may I help you? But instead they felt ridiculed for keeping themselves and you safe. Well done! I'll rather take my kids somewhere else. read more

I have been sneaking into Aunt Kate's since the day she opened. Kate, herself, is a sweet and overly caring individual and is obviously passionate about what she does. There are always multitudes of amazing treats to take home. She's always making something new or trying out new recipes. If there is an empty shelf, it's because she's made room for that new special thing. Kate not only sells chocolates but tea and other novelties. I bought my first set of wine glasses there when she first opened and she greeted me with a taste of her chocolate chamomile tea. I have been hooked ever since. As far as small town, home feel, and friendly service, A++. I will never like another Chocolate store as much as Aunt Kate's! read more

Nice friendly neighborhood candy store. She has a nice supply of international licorice, teas, and candy. She makes her own chocolates with skill and imagination. With some advance notice she made up a big batch of brownies for a group of bicyclists I had arranged to ride through Tenino. read more

I wanted to like this place. The lady was friendly ... That's what the 1 star is for. Dirty shop, small assortment. Most importantly the 3 chocolates we got, for $17 werw awful. My family and I stop in to get candy when we're in town. Kate is very friendly and informative about her candy, and also her teas in the tea room. The candy may be a little more higher price than the grocery store, but it's always fresh and yummy! I recommend the fudge! read more

I dontunderstand the point of this ridiculous website if they are going to filter out all the legit reviews only to leave ones that are MOREsuspicious than the ones they claim were "suspicious" so that was why they were filtered? I stand by my last review i go in here about once a month and buy some candy, usually dark choc with coconut or turtles for my husband, and pink grapefruit slices or cinnamon bears for me. I wasn't asked to write there reviews i made that decision on my own so im pretty aggravated that yelp is doing this ridiculous filtering claiming reviews aren't genuine and that its not fair to the consumers. ., the whole point of this site was supposed to be to let people read the reviews and decide if they like the sound enough to try the place themselves people cant read all the opinions on a place if yelp isn't gonna even botherletting them. This store is absolutely delicious! Some have said it's expensive... you get what you pay for. This is handcrafted small batch chocolates and I love it! Such care and loves goes into every creation and the finest ingredients used. You can see and taste the difference. I first met Kate in a bazaar where we were both participants. I was not feeling very positive about being there. We exchanged greetings. Minutes later she came to my area exclaiming over my "stuff"---my positive energy returned and my sales went quite well on that day---it seemed a metaphor for a sprinkling of fairy dust. Dirty, filthy, piles of stuff everywhere. Open containers of food on counters, bags of pre packaged chocolates on the floor. The Red Velvet cupcakes ( on her facebook page as made there) were for sale in a glass display, when we asked if she made everything by hand herself, she said "yes". But there was an open package of them on the counter from Costco. We pointed this out and she made up a quick story...She just takes off the wrappers, Very disappointing after driving almost 30 minutes, will not use our chocolate tasting we paid for. read more

I'm a total fan of Aunt Kate's. She is very selective in the ingredients she uses for her candy and treats. You are not just buying candy, you are buying delicious, mouth watering delicacies. The selection of her specially blended teas is overwhelming to me and she is so helpful with guiding me on my purchases of tea. We are blessed to have her in our small home town of Tenino. She is always willing to help the needy, that is why she has an area of (garage sale) items to help the community. We went to Kate's Chocolates to buy some fudge with a wallet full of $$,, what a horrible mistake & experience! She was rolling her eyes at every question, and saying snide remarks! I asked her if she had any samples because we never tried it before, and wanted to know what we're buying(it didn't look very good),, she snottily says she doesn't have any! So I asked to buy a piece to try before I spend a bunch of $$, and again for the last time she rolled her eyes & insultes us! So I grabbed my $20 back off her register, and walked the hell out of that dump! Who treats their customers like that?? Obviously she doesn't need the business!! I love chocolate, and have been in countless shops, and NEVER did they not have samples(they want you to try it so you buy more), and we're always nice & helpful! She even has the nerve to go on her Facebook page trying to say we wanted a bunch of samples, lmao,, I asked for ONE ONLY,,I EVEN OFFERED TO BUY THE SAMPLE!! So If there's a place to write a review, believe me, I'm leaving one about this terrible experience, and telling everyone I know! I took the kids and thought we would have fun picking out our chocolates, but it wasn't fun. First the place is dirty, the clerk wasn't even in the shop and took her time to come out. She acted like we were intruding on her day. The prices were AWFUL. We live in Rainier and would easily go back several times if the prices were better, shop cleaner, and a friendlier face would be there to greet us. read more
