    Avocado Salmon Roll
    Jo-Anne L.

This review is looooong overdue as UberEats tells me I've ordered from here over 50 times last year. It's not so much that this restaurant is spectacularly mind-blowing as it being just sufficiently good - and cheap enough - for me to shrug and reorder whenever I'm feeling lazy (which...seems to be pretty often: see above). The quality could be somewhat inconsistent, with the rolls arriving either packed full of thick slices of fresh sashimi, or the rice completely falling apart around stale avocado. At one point they even delivered it in a beautiful box, but of course that didn't last. In my lengthy history with this place, I suppose I've never had an experience truly bad enough for me to turn against it, so it's quite likely I'll be ordering again soon. If I didn't know better, I would suspect they're putting something addictive into the food.

We came here at lunchtime on a Sunday but ordered dinner menu since we're sashimi lovers! Lol The restaurant was rather busy with almost all tables full, so they had 2-hour limited seating, but since there were no shortage of tables while we were having lunch, they didn't ask us to leave. I have been to multiple locations of August 8 and I like the vibe and love their special maki rolls; Princes Roll, Torched Red Dragon Roll, Green Dragon Roll. The appetizers and tempuras are of good quality. Sashimi's we ordered were fresh. The only thing you need to consider when ordering your food is that the service can be slow sometimes, so you need to know how much you can eat and order the most of it on the first round.

I went for their $28.99 weekday all you can eat lunch and tried to get my money's worth lol. Lunch doesn't have sashimi so I had to get sushi (pictured below) nigiri. I ate the fish and put the rice to the side. I was also excited to try the sushi tacos, which is a novelty for me. Someone tell me why they came in Old El Paso corn taco shells LOL. They were bigger than I expected but the spicy mayo sauce and fish with fresh avocado and cucumber actually worked with the Mexican shell! This place also has a few dim sum options but I stuck with sushi. I got a sushi pizza and chicken gyoza too so for this price I'm glad I got a variety of things. For dessert they have either tiramisu or cheesecake, mango pudding cup, sesame ball, fried banana (didn't get this one) and ice cream. Matcha ice cream at the end is like a tradition for me, I got it on top of a slice of tiramisu, which was quite mid and tasted like it came from a box but this is not a dessert place so I can forgive that.

I came here with a friend / ex-coworker from my last last job. He has been to August 8 before and every time he is here, it has been positive. This is my first time and I have to say: Wow definitely my favorite all you can eat Sushi restuarant in Canada as of Feb 2023. This a real Japanese/Chinese AYCE restaurant. Why I say this is back in Metro Vancouver (where I am from), we have these BS AYCE restaurants that enforces a limit of how many sashimi or how many rounds you can order (usually two) or how many certain items you can order and on top a time limit with super slow service on bringing the food out. Worse is that these Metro Vancouver AYCE are not only slow at bringing the food out but they strictly enforce the time limit so you could end up leaving the AYCE place hungry. I am not joking about the Metro Vancouver AYCE places. So first off I am impressed. The food were freshly made upon order. Everything were very tasty. Service was great. This location is located in Chinatown and given how expensive real estate pricing is, the restaurant itself is small. Meaning the table are quite small. I came with a friend and the food came out so fast that we basically ran out of room at the table. I love how you can order the food using the Ipad. They do enforce the 1.5 hour rule but we are fine with that because we left full and all or majority of the items that we ordered did come out. I loved how they served the sashimi on ice to ensure freshness. I loved the torched sushi here. They also have Chinese dim sum. My favorite items are: 1) Scallop sashimi 2) Beef short ribs 3) Green tea ice cream (wow its not the cheap stuff) 4) Egg Yolk bun 5) Seared sashimi 6) torched sushi My friend loved their sushi taco here. They also have sushi pizza. Overall, we enjoyed our food and I highly recommend coming here. I am also impressed with the number of items that they have.

Have been going to this location for a few years now. It's convenient and gets your cravings satisfied. We haven't been in a while and gone for the first time. We were surprised how thick their rice has gotten for their sashimi sushi, it felt like we can get full after ordering like 10 pieces. The service itself was pretty quick and the servers were mostly attentive. The place is pretty nice and cozy, the day we visited it, we found it a little chilly with just a t-shirt. Another thing that kind of disappointed us was that there wasn't a lot of choices for lunch in comparison to dinner. May be more worth it to get dinner if you are looking for just sashimi and many more choices.

Wanted to go to a different AYCE sushi spot, so we tried August 8 for the first time! The service was great, and it was a short waiting time for the food! I highly recommend the assorted tempura, fried squid, popcorn chicken, chicken feet, and the seafood tacos! Wasn't a huge fan of the sushi, but overall the food was pretty good! Restaurant was smaller than some other restaurants, but the ambiance was nice and they played great music too! (RATING: 3.5/5)

Came here for an early dinner on a Friday night after craving dim sum and sushi the whole week! While dinner is an extra 10 dollars, I definitely think it's worth it for the sashimi and torched sushi options! There was only one other table when we came, so service was super quick. The sashimi was super fresh, and the dim sum, while nothing amazing, definitely satisfied my cravings. Dessert was also very yummy, definitely recommend trying the mango pudding and coconut ice cream. A great place to come once in awhile for a special occasion. While it is a bit pricey, they do have a 10% cash discount if you show your student ID!

This place is alright. Weekend lunch cost 21.99, which is comparable to other AYCE options in the city. They stop taking lunch orders at 3:30 PM and their staff go around informing you of last call 15 minutes prior. Ordering is done using a tablet like many other AYCE places, but you don't need someone to come over and confirm your order: just pick your items and send it to the kitchen and the food arrives. August 8 offers japanese options, but in addition to that they also offer a decent selection of popular dimsum items such as chicken feet, har gow, siu mai, curry squid, pork bun, and more. While the lunch option will save you $10 compared to dinner, you won't have access to sashimi, torched sushi, a bunch of "special rolls", and a handful of other items. Overall the food is pretty average, but it's within expectations for an AYCE. The sushi rice had an odd flavor, but I'm not sure if it was the way the rice was done or maybe eating dimsum and then eating sushi results in odd flavor combinations. They didn't have mackerel which I generally enjoy, which is unfortunate. They do have great fried chicken wings though that come hot, crisp, and juicy so that's always great. It's a nice place if you find other japanese AYCE places to be a bit limited in terms of variety.

A Japanese style restaurant and they have ayce menu. It is a good choice to dine in with friends but may be there is 2 hours limit if they are in a rush moment. The service was good and the food was delicious. Everything we ordered were delivered as soon as possible.

As someone who will never tire of sushi and dim-sum, I was extremely pleased and excited to hear that an establishment was serving both. Located in Toronto's own Chinatown surrounded by many other excellent shops, I expected the same of this shop. There is certainly some truth in that no one location can perfect the craft of two different cuisines and that certainly holds true here. The service was good, not amazing. We had to hound staff down for water refills which was extremely necessary because their dim-sum dishes were on the saltier side. Otherwise, ordering was made simple as they have tablets on each table that sends each order into their kitchen. The process is seamless and is definitely something I think is beneficial for AYCE spots. As for food, their dim-sum (2/5) was the most lacking of the two. The items were salty and super small. We ordered spring rolls, chicken feet, and shumai were very small and not even decent quality unfortunately. The spring rolls were very thin with practically no filling, the chicken feet pretty much came just the bone and barely any meat (and chicken feet is already not very meaty), and the shu mai did not taste fresh. Although, it was disappointing we were pleased to see how extensive their dimsum menu was. The sushi, however, was decent and much better in comparison. They gave thick slices of sashimi that were fresh and not fishy. I was super surprised that they offered scallop sashimi, which are my absolute fave. Their rolls also had a decent amount of rice to fish ratio, with the rice being not too much but still more than average. Overall, the spot serves decent sushi and not so decent dim-sum. For the price, I wouldn't return. I would rather pay less to get great sushi and dim-sum separately.

    Shrimp and Chive dumplings
    Krissy L.

So this place is such a cool vibe. It's located in Chinatown in Toronto and it's fairly small on the inside but I love how each sitting area is a booth (despise sitting in chairs at restaurants). I ordered an eggplant dish from their dim sum menu and shrimp/chive dumplings. The dumplings are really small which I didn't expect nor like, I just feel the dumplings should have been bigger or give people more dumplings than 3 per order. That's my only negative, for each dim sum it was around 4.50 and up so it adds up if you order multiple dumplings so it forces you to do their all-you-can-eat dinner which is over $30 per person. Not cool BUT the food was tasty nonetheless and the service was great. Good spot for taking pictures too.

Come for the dinner service, lunch menu is underwhelming. The dinner service is the best AYCE in the city. The cuts of sashimi are high quality and thick. They have a huge assortment of torched, rolled, maki, and some weird sushis. They also have some dim sum, but it's not much to write about. If you want good sashimi and lots of it while having a bunch of other options, this place is it.

    Sashimi Bowl Set A

Came here with my family on a Thursday night. The place had mixed review, but we decided to try it. We would have their buffet, but we ended up doing a la carte because we just ate somewhere else. I had their Sashimi Set A, and the fish was so thick and fresh. It was served on a bowl of ice, keeping it cold. I definitely wish I had not eaten anything prior to coming here. If you did a buffet, then you can order from a tablet that is on each table. The portions are small, but of course, you can order more if wanted. The services were quick, and the place was clean. The next time I am in the area, I will definitely do their buffet. Better yet, please open one in America!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn.
