Absolutely disgusting experience. I would give zero stars if I could. The sushi had barely arrived at the table when I found a hair in the food. I forgot to take a close up picture, but I found this hair in the picture I took before eating. That alone was enough to ruin my appetite, but unfortunately, the hygiene issues only got worse from there. From the food pickup area, I could clearly see into the kitchen, and it looked filthy and poorly maintained. The women's restroom was even more shocking -- one of the toilets was literally covered in feces. I honestly cannot understand how a restaurant serving raw fish can operate with this level of cleanliness. The food itself was also terrible. The sashimi was served at room temperature, did not seem fresh, and the sushi was not good at all. When you are eating raw seafood, freshness and proper temperature are the bare minimum, so this was especially concerning. Between the hair in the food, the dirty kitchen, the horrifying bathroom, and the questionable sashimi, I completely lost confidence in the restaurant's hygiene and food handling. I will absolutely not be returning and cannot recommend this place to anyone.

One of the BEST Japanese restaurants in downtown! Just 5 minutes walk from Bloor yonge station. The staff are great and short waiting time in the weekend. I ordered Sashimi Don and it came with a salad and miso soup. All the sashimi were fresh and the portion was big. There's more than 9 different types of sashimi. With the price $28, it's definitely worth the price. One little tips, if you pay cash, it's 5% off! I am definitely coming back again.

Love this place! I got take out a few times but this was the first time I got to dine in. The food quality has been consistent each time and the filling to rice ratio is unheard of for such a casual/affordable place - this is a good thing as there's more filling to rice. Service was fast and friendly Would definitely come back

Definitely a hidden gem in my opinion. Came with a girlfriend for lunch and we had a great time. They have great lunch specials that come with a miso soup and salad. Here's what we ordered: * Salmon & Tuna donburi $19 * Roll Set #2 $22 Both were delicious. They had a generous amount of fish in each and the fish was also very fresh. Only critic is that it was a little hard to get the staff's attention at times for napkins, more water, and the bill. I loved the interior -- very much like an izakaya. 20250619

3.5/5, decided to try again after seeing someone order it on tik tok. Nice presentation but nothing special and it was pricey. There's definitely better sushi in Toronto! Everything just tasted ok.

I can see why patrons are drawn to the restaurant. It's a cozy place that seems more at home in a suburb than amongst the Yorkville set. Their menu's extensive and prices are very reasonable, especially given its location. Five large prawns arrive with the shrimp tempura ($12), freshly fried so it's wonderfully hot and crispy. While it could have benefited from being drained a bit longer and the dipping sauce less watered down, it's a great way to get the meal started shared amongst a table. I was astounded by the size of the hamachi kama ($9) given the bargain price point. Sadly, you get what you pay for as the generally tender fish jowl was overcooked leaving the dish too dry and a bit chewy. Always go with a restaurant's namesake menu item as the Kiro roll ($15) was my favourite bite that evening. The rice was pressed to a cardboard thinness, the California roll base (imitation crab, avocado, and cucumber) topped with salmon, scallop, and tobiko before having a light torching. Try as I might, I could not get the entire bite into my mouth in one go. There was a great number of toppings and the julienned cucumbers so crispy and fresh that it brightened up the entire maki. If only the spicy mayo had some heat, this would have been perfect. If you're not a fan of oily aburi, you'll love Kiro's ebi pressed sushi ($16). The shrimp topping didn't have an ounce of mayo instead relying on tobiko, scallions, and furikaki (a rice topper) to give it texture and flavour. Of course, that dryness doesn't lend itself to capturing that smokiness and caramelized colour you'd expect from a torched sushi but does create a lighter bite.

Wanted to like this place. It's rather affordable for the style of food which is sashimi dons. Got the Tuna and Salmon don which was loaded with tons of sashimi. Tasted fresh and was topped with some furikake seasoning for some extra flavor. I thought it was great...until I went home and had an upset stomach afterwards. Needless to say I had to take some stars off but it would have been an easy 4 stars.

Was heading to a concert and decided to try Kiro Sushi since it was nearby. I tried the Spicy Salmon Dragon roll, Crispy Spicy Tuna Roll, Kiro roll and Salmon Fusion roll. All were really good and tasty! You can see that the staff took their time with making the rolls and they were presented so nicely! The rolls were decently priced as well! The ambiance was nice and cozy and filled up quickly! The only downside was that we had to wait a long time to get staff for the bill. In the end, since we were running late for our concert, we decided to go up to the counter and pay there. Otherwise, would recommend for people who like sushi and want to try a variety of different rolls!

I came for lunch with some friends, as one highly recommended this spot. We were quite hungry coming in, and left full and happy :) I got the Roll Set #1 with Dynamite and Spicy Tuna rolls, both of which were fresh, tasty, and quite filling! Miso soup and salad were provided on the side as well. Although there was only one waitress, the service was very efficient. Overall, this is a solid spot for sushi in the city. I'm excited to come again!

Absolutely wonderful. My favourite sushi spot in Toronto. Kiro Sushi consistently delivers an exceptional dining experience that keeps me coming back time and time again. The fish is incredibly fresh, with each piece expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The rice is perfectly seasoned and the temperature is just right. The atmosphere is welcoming and the service is attentive without being intrusive. Whether you're ordering traditional nigiri, creative specialty rolls, or sashimi, everything arrives with remarkable quality and attention to detail. If you're searching for authentic, delicious sushi in the city, Kiro Sushi is an absolute must-visit destination.

I've been here a few times for takeout and love coming here. There are big pieces of fish in the sushi, and it's always fresh. Even the tempura is always crisp, not soggy. Love Kiro!

A bit of a hidden gem in this area! Located right next to the Toronto Reference Library, this small, unassuming restaurant has a mellow, sedate vibe with comfortable private booths - perfect for a relaxed evening. The menu is quite extensive, but we decided on the sashimi don and zaru soba. Both came in beautiful, delicate bowls - the stunning presentation was better than shown in the menu pictures! The sashimi was extraordinarily fresh, especially the amaebi (sweet shrimp) - I almost moaned as it went down my throat. The other thick slices of fish were delectable as well, and the sushi rice was well cooked to great texture and just lightly seasoned. The soba was also enjoyable, paired with a subtle dipping sauce and crispy, savoury tempura. As expected, service was excellent and our waitress was kind and warm - the lovely Japanese hospitality we recognize. Menus, tea, and food all arrived promptly, but we were never hurried. Although prices are slightly high, it's quite reasonable for the area and is assuredly compensated by the superb quality of the meal. I will have this place earmarked for future visits!

Decor: Small restaurant with four booths alone th side wall & some 4 seater tables. Wooden tables, fabric covered seats in the booths. Modern light fixtures. Food: Delicious Japanese food! Some rolls unique to here that I haven't seen elsewhere. For appetizers we had the beef short ribs & chicken karage. I had the pink lady & salmon Aburi dragon. So yummy & presentation was top notch. Clean, minimal & the food is the star. Hubby had the yam & avocado roll which was bigger in size than I'd anticipated. I couldn't finish my rolls so I boxed them up to go. For dessert they only have ice cream (3 flavours) or cheesecake (2 flavours). We had the black sesame ice cream. Again, quality was great & the ice cream was scrumptious. Service: When we came in there were only two waitresses. Probably there isn't room for more waitstaff as it's a small place. The restaurant wasn't full but it seemed busy. There were plenty of people picking up their take away orders. Washrooms: This is important. In my opinion if you run a restaurant the washrooms must be clean. I don't care how nice the decor is if the washrooms are dirty. There were 2 stalls in the ladies washroom & it was clean. Hubby said the men's washroom only had one stall & their washroom was clean too.

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

We walked into a lively, casual space that works especially well for groups, celebrations, or any meal where you want to take your time and enjoy the experience. The energy in the room is high, with the sound of grilling and conversation filling the space, and the table setup encourages a longer, more relaxed pace than a typical restaurant meal. The biggest highlight is the meat selection. The quality is consistently strong, with different cuts and marinades that give each plate its own flavor. The miso steak is one of the standout items, with a really good balance of savory, slightly sweet, and rich flavors. The marinated meats are where Gyubee really shines, coming seasoned well and developing a great char from grilling at the table. We worked through a range of options including kalbi, hanger steak, and sausage, mixing and matching as we went. The fun part is being able to control the cooking yourself, whether you prefer a lighter sear or a deeper grilled flavor, and the grill setup makes it easy to cook at your own pace. The sides and extras are also better than what we usually expect from an all you can eat BBQ spot. The sushi was surprisingly enjoyable, with smaller portions that made it easy to try different rolls without filling up too quickly. The bibimbap is another good addition, especially when paired with the grilled meats. Takoyaki and other sides helped break up the meal and added variety beyond just ordering meat after meat. The spread is broad enough that you can build a well rounded meal without feeling like you are stuck in a single category. Service was a strong part of the experience. Even with the restaurant being busy, the staff were attentive and checked in regularly to make sure we had what we needed. They kept the table moving, helped with ordering, and made the process feel smooth despite the constant flow of guests. The wait can be the biggest challenge, especially during dinner hours, but the service once seated helped make up for it. The staff also handled the high turnover of tables well, keeping the pace steady without making us feel rushed. Gyubee is one of those places where the experience is just as important as the food. The combination of grilling at the table, quality meats, good sides, and a fun group atmosphere makes it a great choice for a longer meal with friends or family. It is worth planning ahead for the wait because the meal itself delivers the kind of relaxed, interactive dining experience that makes you want to come back. The format encourages you to slow down, cook at your own pace, and enjoy the meal as a shared activity rather than just a quick dinner.

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.
