Cold and dry tempura selections
Ray B.

Was in the mood for some Sushi and so thought I'd give August 8 a try. Wasn't impressed with the food or service. Took a while to get seated and drinks and food were slow to come. No sashimi is served during the lunch service so was rather disappointing. Beef teriyaki was dry and cold, nigirizushi toppings of shrimp, tuna, and salmon were dry. Odon noodle broth had little flavor. Our desert order didn't get served and we had to leave before they could get things sorted out. They did take the drinks off our bill but that couldn't make up for the lackluster food. Wouldn't recommend, especially for lunch.

I went for the All You Can Eat Drive-In. To start with, I parked my car in front of the store and I went in to check in, pay for my meal and receive my QR code. The staff were very friendly and explained everything to me. The price was $48 per person ($36.99 all day dinner + 15% service + tax) and the lady gave me a tray with ginger, wasabi, soy sauce, cutlery and garbage bag. After scanning your QR code, you can order from appetizers, tempura, sashimi, sushi, teriyaki, Maki roll, dim sum and dessert menu. with each order, you can order 5 items per person and then you have to wait until you receive your order and only then, you can order another 5 items. And you have to wait at least 20 minutes for each order to get ready. This makes it a very time consuming process. Also, the rolls are smaller than usual (Maki rolls are 4-5 small pieces). After finishing each order, you can remove the packages from the tray and put them in the garbage bag that you were provided. When you order dessert, they know you are done and come and collect your garbage. Overall, it's a nice experience, but you need to have 4 hours of free time to spend; otherwise, it would be a waste of time, cause you can order more food with this amount of money.

The food is always prepared so well. They have so much to choose from and I can't pick a favourite item. Well actually the cheese wontons are top notch. Since it's all you can eat I think the price point is great.. especially for the quality of food.

I stopped in at August 8 for an AYCE sushi lunch. The location is downtown Hamilton which is a little dated and parking can be difficult. The interior is ok but could use an update. Now enough of the boring stuff let get to food. Right if the bat I ordered 24 salmon sushi.. yes all for me! It was fresh and well presented. Next up.. Dim sum. The Sui Mai and Har Gow were exceptional! Continuing on ...they offered tacos. I had the Dynamite tacos which are a spicy shrimp taco with a hard shell...tasty. Service was ok and I did get everything I ordered unlike some places. So as of May/2023 the lunch is 27.99 which I think is pretty fair for what I ate. I recommend this place if your looking to get your Sushi fix.

Not as good as it used to be. Nice variety but not as high quality as when it first opened.

When I got home my food was still hot which I loved. OMG the fried rice was soooo delicious. I didn't need to add anything to it and the ribs were soooo delicious tender and good. I didn't stay obviously, but inside was very spacious and can accommodate a fairly large group. This is now my new favourite Chinese food spot. I can't wait to go back and try more options in the menu.

It's always a good sign when you can find Cantonese-speaking customers in the restaurant - and we did. The restaurant appeared clean, although was dated. There were basic dim sum choices on the menu, but quite a number of items were crossed out and marked as not available. We tried the Shanghai Style Fried Noodle, Preserved Egg and Pork Congee, Steamed Sui Mai Dumpling, and Steamed Chive Shrimp Dumpling. We ordered the Pan Fried Dumpling with Minced Pork - it never arrived. Just as well because we had enough for two people and were already full. Of all, the congee was the most flavourful. The other items were standard. The noodles didn't have as much flavour and 'wok hei' as we would have liked, but still ok. I did ask if they made the dim sum in house, and the server (owner?) answered, "yes" but I do have to wonder. I would give it another try for dinner entrees.

When I did a staycation in Hamilton in February 2020, I remember passing by an August 8 restaurant…read more It has a handful of locations that offer all-you-can-eat sushi. Last month, I was back in Hamilton for a mini staycation. I needed dinner. I looked on my Uber Eats app and saw that this August 8 had a number of BOGO items. I had to get in on the deals. I ordered the following items: - Avocado salad - California roll - BOGO - Sticky rice (3) - Salmon sashimi (3) - Steamed sponge cake (4) - BOGO I drove over to the eatery to pick up my order. It's located in a tiny plaza with limited parking. I managed to snag the only parking spot available. I had to careful back in, as there was a car parked illegally in the parking lane. It's the downside to fetching or heading over here to dine. The parking situation is atrocious and downright dangerous. More on that in a bit. I headed to the counter and got the nicest young man. I let him know that I had an Uber Eats order and stated my name. He found my order and handed a bag over to me. I thanked him and left the eatery. There were a handful of students hanging around outside. One of the guys was sweet to open and hold the door for me. Kindness isn't completely dead. It was a nice touch. The downside was that the woman who parked illegally parked in the fire lane didn't bother doing a check behind her and decided to back up. I don't get why she needed to back up, but she nearly backed into me. I was not impressed. I actually managed to get out of the way and had a good look at her from the passenger side of her car. I let her know through some arm gestures that she needed to be careful and that she nearly ran over me. My gestures did have words accompanying them. I can't state them here. They weren't pleasant words that I use regularly. I got to my car and safely placed my food in it. I then drove back to the hotel room to chow down. The food was yummy on the whole. I will break things down: Avocado salad The miso dressing was flavourful. The avocado slices were delicate and were starting to turn brown. The veggies were fresh, but I didn't love the iceberg lettuce. I'd skip getting this salad. California rolls Excellent! The filling was warm, which was different. I loved them. The fake crab, avocado, and julienned cucumbers were so good. They did have black sesame seeds around them. Sticky rice (3) It was a bit weird seeing white paper wrapped around each bundle of sticky rice with its own leaf wrapping. I felt that it was a waste of paper. The bundles had more white pepper than necessary. The filling was generous, with small chunks of pork. I ate one each day. They heat up nicely. Salmon sashimi (3) The best! Each piece melted in my mouth. You don't need to chew much. The sashimi was super fresh. Steamed sponge cake (4) I am a huge fan of traditional steamed sponge cake. There was a twist with the version here. You get dainty triangles with layers of sponge cake. I'm not sure what separated each layer, but this cake was subtly sweet and still warm. I loved it so much. I want to return and get some more food. I'd avoid the avocado salad. The parking situation makes me want to fetch food from a different August 8, though. Maybe I should try coming during lunchtime when I'm in the area and see if parking is better. (442)

The place looks like a home that was converted into a restaurant with parking in the back but once you enter, you feel like you are going into one of your Auntie's places for an actual home cooked meal. And they did not disappoint! Each dish was made to order and took a short time but you could tell it was prepared by a chef with a lot of experience and care--just looking at how the veggies were chopped/diced you can see they put their energy into each dish. The flavors were really superb and not at all overpowering and one major bonus--nothing was over salted or over oily as you might think typical Chinese food can get. Our party of 4 loved every bite and finished all our dishes, no leftovers. As you can see in the photos, they make an excellent meal. Prices are also very affordable and competitive with anything near the touristy areas. So if you want a solid, great meal prepared by a true mom & pop kitchen that feels like a home cooked meal, you really gotta try them out. I asked them how business was in summer vs winter and they said it's tough when it's winter (less tourists) but they make it work. It's also nice and quiet/intimate so you can have an actual conversation with your group rather than try to talk over some loud music at a chain restaurant! ----TL;DR---- Pros: excellent Chinese cuisine at very affordable prices and great portions. Not too salty or oily. And super nice, friendly owners who provide great service and great food. Cons: not easy to walk to from the main strip but if you have a car it's an easy drive. Skip the touristy places and come here! Bottom Line: it was the best meal we had in Niagara Falls and everyone was full and satisfied. I'd definitely go back again.

Service was slow and there was really only person trying to handle everybody. We were told to simply write down the numbers associated with the meals listed in the menu because the waiter was too busy and seemed to have limited English. Although the waiter vacuumed the floor by a previously used table he was able to get to bus or clear that table left with dishes from a previous diner. So the ambiance was marred by the lack of staff to clear the tables. We were treated with an extra dish of four hot and spicy fried shrimp and took it home because we were too full to eat any more because we still had some lobster left over.
