I visited today for lunch and had a wonderful experience. I made my reservation online, which made everything smooth and easy from the start. Jacob greeted me warmly, showed me to my booth, and had my green tea ready in no time. The service was excellent--everyone was polite, attentive, and made me feel welcome without being intrusive. I especially appreciate coming here because it's the perfect spot to enjoy a great meal while getting some work done on my computer without interruptions. Was in the mood for some Sushi and so thought I'd give August 8 a try. Wasn't impressed with the food or service. Took a while to get seated and drinks and food were slow to come. No sashimi is served during the lunch service so was rather disappointing. Beef teriyaki was dry and cold, nigirizushi toppings of shrimp, tuna, and salmon were dry. Odon noodle broth had little flavor. Our desert order didn't get served and we had to leave before they could get things sorted out. They did take the drinks off our bill but that couldn't make up for the lackluster food. Wouldn't recommend, especially for lunch. read more

I went for the All You Can Eat Drive-In. To start with, I parked my car in front of the store and I went in to check in, pay for my meal and receive my QR code. The staff were very friendly and explained everything to me. The price was $48 per person ($36.99 all day dinner + 15% service + tax) and the lady gave me a tray with ginger, wasabi, soy sauce, cutlery and garbage bag. After scanning your QR code, you can order from appetizers, tempura, sashimi, sushi, teriyaki, Maki roll, dim sum and dessert menu. with each order, you can order 5 items per person and then you have to wait until you receive your order and only then, you can order another 5 items. And you have to wait at least 20 minutes for each order to get ready. This makes it a very time consuming process. Also, the rolls are smaller than usual (Maki rolls are 4-5 small pieces). After finishing each order, you can remove the packages from the tray and put them in the garbage bag that you were provided. When you order dessert, they know you are done and come and collect your garbage. Overall, it's a nice experience, but you need to have 4 hours of free time to spend; otherwise, it would be a waste of time, cause you can order more food with this amount of money. read more

I stopped in at August 8 for an AYCE sushi lunch. The location is downtown Hamilton which is a little dated and parking can be difficult. The interior is ok but could use an update. Now enough of the boring stuff let get to food. Right if the bat I ordered 24 salmon sushi.. yes all for me! It was fresh and well presented. Next up.. Dim sum. The Sui Mai and Har Gow were exceptional! Continuing on ...they offered tacos. I had the Dynamite tacos which are a spicy shrimp taco with a hard shell...tasty. Service was ok and I did get everything I ordered unlike some places. So as of May/2023 the lunch is 27.99 which I think is pretty fair for what I ate. this place is quite good for an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord. You will find sushi options next to dim-sum options next to tacos (!) The quality and freshness of the fish is OK and the execution of the dishes is not bad. For about $30 you can feast like a king for lunch. Simply order the dishes on the table-side tablet and the dishes will start coming from the kitchen just as soon as they are ready. August 8 has a lot of promise, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt-- going from a two to a three-star at that point. We came in during what we thought would be a moderately-paced time-- midafternoon on a Saturday- and they were pretty slammed, so we had to wait a bit for a table. There was some sort special pricing going on for the all-you-can-eat, which we should have taken advantage of, because we ended up paying damn near that much for a la carte. For this we take responsibility for the error of our ways, though the pricing the server told us was different from two different prices listed on two different menus. This is a pretty basic management error in marketing that should be easily corrected, as you need to be able to make your pricing and offerings instantly legible to your customers. A tempura shrimp roll with eel and roe was great, but came out way later than the rest of our food, and was lukewarm to boot. Sushi's either gotta be cold, or, in the case of the rare tempura-oid sushi rolls, it's gotta be hot. Lukewarm is a bad thing. The seaweed salad was an ample serving, though, and positively delish. One can on occasion get screwed on the meager servings of seaweed salad. The udon chicken bowl, though, was utterly lackluster, with some quite soggy, though quite fried, chicken katsu, a dull broth, and little in the way of any sort of garnish or flavor complements. But the shumai were good, and I saw some other stuff on the menu that I'd love to try next time I'm in. read more

Only allows TWO tablets per 12 person table, I confirmed they actually do even just one. Can you imagine the wait until you get your turn, or being the last. Sushi is starting to come, I asked at least 5 servers for ginger and wasabi without which I cannot eat sushi and sashimi, nothing. I had to get up, go where the restaurant manager is to ask for two big bowls of each, just in case other people wanted them. Yes, the place does serve both sushi/sashimi/tempura and dim-sum, but there is a LIMITED menu of each. Nowhere near the variety from other restaurants. If it was my choice, I would never visit this brand, this location. I'd rather go to a real good sushi place or a real good dim-sum place. Plus the Zoo part. The service is so so. Come pay $40 for a good aesthetic, bad service, and okay food! Lunch today was a joke. We were there for 2 hours, and 3/4 of that was waiting for servers to check on all the things we ordered and never coming back or properly fulfilling our orders. They then proceeded to treat us like we were weird for asking about our orders (which we weren't because the iPad proved everything we ordered), while a bunch of the employees sat behind us at a table, bringing themselves plates and plates of food. Standouts: - The sesame balls here was the best I've EVER tasted, I could eat those for days! - I usually love the kalbi at any AYCE sushi restaurant and it was no different here - Presentation for sashimi plate was stunning (as shown in picture) Fell a little short: - The salmon sashimi was too thick for my liking, it could have been cut thinner - Green tea is not free here, we thought that it was and they charged us for that on our bill Overall, the food was great! The other location disappointed me (Upper James) - I called to book a group of 10 two weeks before the date we wanted to come in but they could not accomodate my request. Instead I was asked to call back a week before to reserve the date- when I called about 4 days to the event, I was told to call back again. We placed an order at 11:00am for pick up at 5:30. We were told to be prompt picking up our order. We arrived at 5:15, stood outside until 7:00 asking periodically what was going on. I absolutely love it here! Yes it is alittle busy near the end of lunch and at dinner but thats just because its great! Food is always hot, fresh and great tasting! Service is fast. Been many times and only 1 one minor problem (ordered a mango icecream before paying and never got it) but it was probably my own fault. Wasnt very impressed with this August 8 location. Service was extremely slow, we waited 16 minutes to get any of our first order. The pan fried veggies were over cooked, we received the wrong order of maki rolls and the overall quality wasn't great. We also waited again to see our tenderloin steak.... 24 minutes to be exact. The sushi however was delicious. Normally slow service doesnt bother me but the waiters and kitchen staff were hanging out socializing, which was obviously quite annoying. I would highly recommend trying the Burlington location instead of this one, the food is a lot better and the service is much faster. read more

Went here with a large group of friends for a birthday over the weekend. It seems to be a great spot for big parties - there was lots of space to accommodate us and the service was fairly fast. The decor was also really nice and gave it a more upscale feel compared to other sushi restaurants. Everything we ordered was good, although the all you can eat menu was lacking in selection. Went there on New Years Day with a group of friends. It was slightly slower than usual, however the service was even slower. The food itself was subpar, the waitress messed up our simple drink orders and to top it off the restaurant didn't tell us they were charging a holiday rate for the food so dinner was an extra ten dollars a person. I've been to this location quite a few times and I highly recommend it to those that want a nice experience. The atmosphere is calming and the staff are very friendly. Now for the food review. Since I usually visit at dinner hours, I find that they have quite a wide range of selections in terms of AYCE. Their many rolls range in flavour from deep and rich to light and refreshing. Personally, I also love ordering their spicy beef udon; the spiciness and saltiness are, in my opinion, perfectly harmonized. I also enjoy the galbi quite a bit. As an out of towner I was a Novice A8 goer. My teenage niece's fav spot so decided to give it a try. Wonderful lunchtime all-u-can-eat $18 mid week. Was apprehensive from some lack luster reviews but the fun table-based-Tablet ordering system made things VERY easy and understandable. You get to see the food items by category with pictures names and ordering quantities. No mystery as to just words without description SOOOOO easy. Some of my MOST enjoyable items were seaweed salad (1/4 cup size), Large prawn tempura (1 pcs and up order), shrimp dim sum dumplings (3 pcs per order min), grilled salmon with light teriyaki sauce, spicy seafood udon had great flavour. Dessert was delicious tiny yummy mango pudding (3 tbs), green tea ice cream so creamy and refreshing!! Items that DIDNT thrill: shrimp dim sum with green onion LOST the shrimp to too much Gr Onion, then tempura broccoli was thick thick batter way over cooked veg and same with tempura crab spear. I tend to avoid heavy carbs at all you can eats but there were lots of great sushi, cones, rice bowls and maki roll choices. No sashimi during the lunch period and bonus if you're into it fountain drinks (pop/ice tea) are Large size and refillable. Given the many many wonderful Japanese restaurant options in Vancouver I would NOT say tasty if not 100% true. Wish I could pack em up and bring em home. read more

Chain AYCE Asian fusion restaurant. We like the dim sum, sushi selections & teriyaki dishes. Staff are prompt about serving food but need to be reminded to bring drink orders as well. Love the warm salmon bellies, a rich melt in your mouth dish similar to the salmon collar offered at some Japanese restaurants. Shrimp and chives dumplings, a dim sum selection, are great too. Debit is not accepted but there's an on-site ABM in the lobby. Conveniently located to Silver City Hamilton Mountain Cinemas so you can have an Asian lunch then go to a matinee movie. Our family ritual is to go here and to the movies once a month on Saturday afternoons. read more

We had one of the soups, a rice dish, shrimp, salmon, chicken, the food just kept coming. Our table filled with food twice and we had desert. I went for the all you can eat drive in tonight with my cousins and to be honest it was the worst experience I've ever had. It took 30 minutes for each order to get ready. I had an appointment at 8 and went there at 5:30. We could only stay there for 2 hours, so i thought I'd definitely make it there at 8. Most of our orders were cancelled because they thought we are 3 people instead of 4 so they rejected the orders cuz they thought we were gonna take them home. Took them an hour to bring us chickens and about 50 minutes to bring us sushi!! We were so mad and told them so they gave us an extra 2 hours but it was even worse. I think they just wanted to stall us to not let us order a lot. I was so excited to try some special sushi rolls that are only in the dinner menu but they were all rejected and none of them were made. Not to mention, they would only bring us half the food we ordered. It took them 40 min to make 3 sesame balls, which I'm pretty sure they could make them in 10-20 min. Also, no it was not busy and there were only 5-6 cars. I used to be a huge fan of this restaurant but as of now I wouldn't recommend to anyone. After getting the last order (sesame balls) i immediately called my friend (who hasn't been to august 8) and told her to not waste her time cuz they legit think we are idiot and it is not worth the money at all. Very Disappointed! We come here all the time but this time we we're not impressed. First we arrived and the lineup was long, no big deal except the phone rang and the greeter said "don't worry I'll seat them when they get here". Seconds later 3 prissy girls arrive bragging that they don't have to wait in line and low and behold they are seated right away. When I confronted the greeter he said the person who called was "a special customer". When we went to get seated half the place was empty, why the lineup? We got sat right next to those same annoying girls. Twice we got food we didn't order. The first time there was nothing on our order history, the second time there was a separate order just for the one item which we never have and never would order. The waiter got defensive but how would we order and separately without even touching the iPad? Food was sub-par, not cooked as well as normal example: yam potatoes were still hard.
