A-okay! 3.5 stars. Tried this August8 location for the first time over the weekend for AYCE and I have no complaints on the food. I went here for lunch and ordered a lot of the dim sum options in addition to the sushi rolls. The dim sum food was pretty good and you don't usually see this at other AYCE restaurants so I quite enjoyed this. My go-to dim sum dishes are chicken feet and beef tripe, and both of these were fairly good here. The sushi and grill options were quite standard here - the only roll that stood out for me that was unique and surprisingly delicious was the mango/avocado/cream cheese roll (forgot the specific name of the roll).. yes, it sounds a bit odd, but it's definitely worth a try.. just don't dip it in soy sauce! My only complaint about this place was that the ice cream was served in foam take out containers along with plastic spoons - very wasteful. read more

By far one of my favourite all you can eat restaurants. They had me at Dim Sum! Not only is the atmosphere great, the staff and service is incredible!!! One of the reasons I highly recommend this place. I'm always a fan of AYCE Sushi but the added Dim Sum portion to the menu takes the cake for me. It's rare to find Dim Sum served at AYCE Sushi so I recommend you give this place a try. Wasn't disappointed with anything about my experience. I have been going to this location for many years. Last night was the first time I have experienced this poor level of quality. The restaurant was packed, the surrounding were very dirty. The air conditioning was not on - it was smelly and stuffy. We had bones in our salmon sashimi, the spicy butterfish was warm smelled extremely potent and gave the overall impression it had been sitting on a counter top for a long time. The service was very low quality and the table was wobbly, we were more upset at the fact we lost one of our favourite sushi spots. We had reservations for 6 they did not let us in until 6:30. It was so horrible we left before 7:00. I paid the full tab of $96 and we felt we couldn't of got out of there fast enough. Today I decided to try the take out and I have to say I'm beyond disappointed! I ordered to pick by 7:30PM and at 6PM I got a message that my order was being prepared and asking not to be late. It's almost 9PM and no sign of my order. There are people waiting their 6PM order. Come on!!! 3 hours wait!!! They should have been clear with all the customers, giving a estimate of the time so we could decide to wait or cancel. Clearly they took way to many orders than they could process. And here we are waiting with no estimating time. They have to react about this because it's unacceptable! I hope to get a call on the new year with a big apologie and a make up for my waisted time, terrible customer service and horrible experience! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and it was a good experience overall. The restaurant was very well designed, big enough to occupy large groups, and was kept well cleaned. The service was good and similar to other ayce restaurant. They promptly fill up our water glass.The ordering system is on a tablet which is nice. The food was really good and I have to say that their teriyaki beef was cooked really well and was probably one of the better ones I've tried at an ayce restaurant. I'm surprised by the terrible reviews; in my opinion, August 8 is a solidly middle-of-the-road AYCE place. It's right off the highway, and I visited as a lunch break while driving back to London area from Niagara. Prices are fair for an all-you-can-eat weekday lunch. The look of the restaurant is very slick: the interior feels like a place you could take a date, or even a work associate. The service is inconsistent: some dishes came out fast, others (such as a request for more ginger) didn't arrive at all. The check was processed very quickly when we decided we were ready to leave. Overall, the food was all decent: nothing was terrible, but nothing was stellar, either. Even at lunch, you can choose from a nice variety of sushi and other food. The tempura veggies were alright; the tempura scallop was excellent. Skip the beef roll appetizer! The shrimp and chive dumpling was decent, but could have used a dipping sauce. The cream cheese wontons (a recent addition to the menu, I believe) were only okay. The sushi rolls I tried were all very good. It tasted fresh for the most part; one bite of one roll tasty very fishy, which concerned me, although I didn't get sick from it. The mango ice cream tasted a little strange, but the tempura banana for dessert was probably the highlight of the meal. Despite the reviews I have read about this place, I still went because I was in the area. Expecting bad food and bad service, I was completely surprised after entering. I was welcomed by a friendly host and was brought to my table. She explained to us how the menus work (though I already knew). We made our orders and shortly after, the food started coming in. I was expecting bad food, but again I was surprised as to how good the quality of food was for an ayce! One of the best in Hamilton and GTA FORSURE! I don't understand how this restaurant has bad ratings and reviews but i was more than happy with my visit. This restaurant doesn't get enough credit than it deserves. August 8 - They have octopus sashimi ! Yummm - Sushi Bars Near Me - Hamilton, Ontario

Came in late-ish around 8:45PM on a Friday night for 2 and the place was packed. Few tables ahead of us in line but got seated within 5 minutes of waiting. They have their own private lot but it is a little tricky to get out of if you're not turning right (you'll see when you get there). I love the decor in this place; it's modern with lots of space in between tables and booths along the sides of the walls. It's an iPad order system = minimal interaction with anybody but your company. The waitstaff are nice and clear tables quickly. The food comes out roughly 3-5 minutes after you order it so there's always something on the table. The quality is decent for the price. It's like you're paying to sample a little of everything. The rolls are good as they don't try to stuff you on the rice. Try their mango roll with cream cheese if you want to try a veggie roll. I wish they had soft-shell crab rolls though. Only negative star is the price. I'm so used to Toronto where everything is competitive that keeps prices low and they have a wider selection. But if you're looking for a good night out for AYCE - this is a must. Such a wide selection on their menu and great ambiance. read more

There are a few locations in Hamilton, and this is the first one that I tried. I have since tried the other location in Stoney Creek so I will only comment on this location and the service. The food here was mediocre, they did not have as many items and options as the other location (it seemed) and it also felt as they it didn't have as many choices as other favourite sushi restaurants of mine. A little disappointing. They have iPad ordering, but I think that is quite normal now for sushi restaurants. The food does come out really quickly, hopefully this means the quality is still decent. As I mentioned previously, not my favourite tasting food. I found that the plates and dishes that everything was served in were huge - our table filled up quickly (even if the plate only had 1-2 items on it). I felt like I was constantly stacking plates! Portions also seemed a little smaller than I am used to at AYCE sushi places. Now I do need to say the atmosphere in this place is not the most inviting, it seemed a little dark and a weird set up for the tables - this particular location has been a ton of different restaurants and none have lasted too long. I hope August 8 can fix a few of these things and stick around because the other locations are really great for AYCE! read more

Went here with family yesterday, I live in the states but I'm originally from Hamilton. Every time I come back this is my family's go to! I've gone to different locations but this is the closest to us. This specific location is alright I gave it a couple of chances before I decided to write a review. There's just a few things that kind of bring the place down. For example the bar has a full set up but does not even have one side full of selections of liquors. They don't even have the basics. I get that's not what they're known but but why have a bar? Next, when we ordered there was a bunch of our orders that never came. Not a big deal, we can just order it again but I don't think that's efficient. Then, one of us ordered the cup of tiramisu and when she got it there was a long ass hair in it.... she pulled it out, it was disgusting. And last... the staff could be a bit more social or atleast look happy? I mean, they are in the service industry....They all just seemed very robotic? They do have some pros though. The food taste great, the staff gets your plates out of the way and keeps your tables clean. read more

Awful! We used to love eating in this restaurant. Just got takeout and it was disgusting. Dinner for 4- chicken teriyaki with no sauce, bland fried rice and a pathetic sushi platter with messy rolls made without care. The worst however was the tempura shrimp and vegetables which were hard and dry and you could tell they had been sitting around for a long time. The side salads had brown lettuce. $71.55 was the total with a 30% discount - I don't mind paying that for quality food but after this we will never go back. So disappointed. read more

Groupmates decided on coming here for group bonding time or as one member said "all-you-can-stuff-your-faces-with sushi". Had heard a lot about August 8 since moving to Hamilton about a year ago. A really cool place from inside, there's a lot of space, so it doesn't feel crowded at all. They have lots of booth seating, which is where we got to sit. Ordering is by iPad...can't be a super hip place and not have that :P. The only thing they don't have during lunch AYCE is sashimi, which is fine with me. The food is good. Dim sum is fresh. Sushi rolls are nicely made, not too much rice so you don't start feeling stuffed that quickly. Our group stayed away from the teriyaki, fried rice, etc, and focused on the sushi which was definitely awesome. Awesome experience, pricey, but if you go once-in-a-while, well worth it. read more

The flavours were okay but the texture of all the Maki Rolls were awful. Too dry and it became mush in your mouth. The sashimi was decent but left much to be desired. The dim sum dumpling was tasty but you can tell they are just frozen items they receive so it doesn't make them very special. Absolutely disgusted with their service. I've never had such a horrendous experience with a restaurant. To start, the food tastes day old, and took twenty five minutes to reach the table, per order, even when we ordered ONE piece mango chicken. I'm allergic tea bean, and can't consume byproducts , including their green tea ice cream. During dessert, I noticed there was a big chink at the bottom of the bowl. Went to this location last week. I know August 8 is a franchise so I was disappointed by our experience. It started out great we got seated right away, our drinks came fairly quickly. After we started receiving our food is when it went downhill. We ordered dimsum and when our first basket came there was short rib bones in the bamboo. They kept screwing up our sushi/sashimi order, not to mention the rolls were super small! I do get it is AYCE but the rolls were tiny! We order dessert and the spoon was dirty! Yesterday we have come around 630-7 without no reservation for a party of 9 people and a half. It took them 15 mins to prepare and get a table ready for us. The servers and hostess were unsure and seem as if they are scared to speak up. Our first patch of food came out so quickly. It was good. Second round, we order food and ice cream, to no vail, ice cream comes out first and food came out 30-45 mins later. The order was placed at 7:59 and at 8:45 our order did not come yet. The servers avoided our table and when we requested assistance thru the iPad, no one came to us. They were avoiding when coming to get plates as well. We were upset at this point. One server came and we expressed our frustration of how long the order been placed. The server apologizes and comes back with our miso soups. He then apologizes once again, and said there was 3 other big party going on. That our order is on the way. Another server was on training, she gave the other tables our orders and express she made a mistake. Another server told her its ok, and to keep going. Sushi that we ordered was nearly empty, and they didn't tell us that they had run out of a lot of inventory, so when I ordered it the Rainbow Roll it came out with 0 advocado, and the salmon the used had gone completely bad. Called in here today with my Wife about one thirty, first the iPad order tool would not show most of the pictures of the food items. We ordered from memory ( regular customers ) and had to wait the longest time for the food, so we thought at least the food will be hot, We were wrong. The deep fried shrimp and scallops were lukewarm, the waiter almost threw the food on the table, no communication at all, the portion sizes have shrunk noticeably. I come here all the time. The service is usually pretty quick and the food is always fresh and delicious. There's never a massive wait, the place is clean and staff are professional. I have a shellfish allergy and the waiter came over to ask me further questions - despite serving a wealth of seafood, they were still able to cater to that. Their desserts are amazing. They can be quite pricey if you eat during dinner, though most all you can eat places are and in that sense, they're well in line with their competitors. If I could give a zero I would! I am so very upset and disappointed in my experience today. I ordered online at 5:15 and picked a pick up time for 6:45 as that was the earliest you had! I show up for my food and my daughter was told that my order did not go through which it absolutely did as my credit card was charged immediately for 65.25. You then say if u would like to wait ANOTHER 40 minutes you would make it?! Really?! Then my daughter said no thanks and we left. I get all the way back home in Ancaster, no food for dinner, and you call me to say you just opened your web again to accept orders and mine is now mysteriously there and if I would like to wait 40 minutes and come back you will do it?!!! I was just there! Then you sadly say well we are just busy! You don't think I knew that when I picked a pick up time for an hour and half later! Then you tell me that my money will not be refund for 3 days! 3 days for an order you said never went through!!! And then suddenly you are able to make it in 15 minutes if I want to drive all the way back. I am beyond ticked off and thank you for ruining my Mother's Day! Shame on you and your business practice! The service at this place is terrible, greeter is rude, and this happened on a number of occasions. The food is really good most of the time, but they do screw it up once in a while. I would recommended for a decent AYCE sushi place, but you have little to choose from Atami? Spring? Really they are all 3's.
