My experience with Audi of Brookline is best illustrated by this letter I wrote to the owners after I bought an A8 from them a few months ago:
Dear Sirs,
About two weeks ago I stopped by your dealership to look at the Audi A8.
It was my good fortune to be met by Scott Allerheiligen, one of your salesmen. He had me test drive a 2011 A8, and outlined the features of the car. I wound up buying a 2012 A8 from him.
If he is representative of other sales persons at your dealership, you should be proud. I have bought many cars in my life, and never - repeat, never - had a more pleasant experience than I had with Scott.
He allowed the cars to sell themselves. He never pressured, never went through this "I have to talk to the sales manager" rubbish, never spoke down to me. Neither did he denigrate my previous choice of cars - I have owned two BMW 7L series, and one 5. He didn't go through the "negotiation" routines I am so familiar with, and disgusted by. He listened to what I wanted and gave it to me, no more, no less, and no pressure, at the same time he told me the options available. He was very knowledgeable about the car, and was able to respond to some pointed questions I asked, such as whether the flat tire monitor was based on wheel rotation or a built-in sensor in the tire. I was a bit disappointed at the trade in value of my car, but he explained how he got to that figure and I understood.
I dithered for a few days, and Scott was patient. After all, considering an Audi was close to betrayal for me, and I had to feel sure it was the right thing to do. He did not bombard me with phone calls and emails, but did reach out - respectfully - once or twice.
When I decided on the 2012, he went to some lengths to get exactly what I wanted. Once it arrived, he walked me through it in detail, to be sure I knew what I was getting. Again, no pressure, no desperation, just adult to adult conversations. All this as he knew that he was not getting a commission on the sale, since I was using the "Families and Friends" discount program. He pursued the sale with confidence and without regard for his own financial stake - an altruism so rarely seen in auto dealerships.
I am sure, however, that you will find ways to reward him. He converted a BMW lifer into an evangelist for Audi. All of my neighbors have sat in the driver's seat and admired what they see. My UPS delivery guy, however, was unbelieving that I had given up my BMW for the Audi...and then whispered that what he really wants is the S4!!
Your business manager Siobhan was similarly professional. She outlined the many options available, but didn't pressure me or make me feel guilty about refusing things like simonizing. All very businesslike, and I felt - again - respected as an adult instead of being treated as a child.
I am now the proud owner of a lovely Audi. I am delighted at the way it handles, at the fit and finish of the car and at its power and responsiveness. I have learned that there are other driving machines out there, and Audi may lead the pack.
Thank you both for having such people as Scott and Siobhan on your staff. They are credits to you, your business, and the Audi brand.
I look forward to years of satisfaction from my car, and to your staff working on it when needed. read more
