I seriously recommend avoiding this dealership altogether. While my stories revolved around repairs, a perusal of the reviews here from people who have bought tell a similar story.
My story is this, and the latter part of it is my own fault, you probably wouldn't make the same mistake (I hope). I moved to the Brookline area and was happy to see this dealership so close. I happened to mention to a friend when looking for a ride to work when I had scheduled my car in for service that I had brought it here. It turns out my buddy had dealt with these guys before and told me I should really stay away. In his case, he brought it in for another repair when his warranty was over, and he got the truly classic overcharge/"we just can't let you leave with the car with (blank) problem" line. But that's someone else's story, here's mine.
Whatever, I thought. Seriously, it seems everyone's always complaining about dealerships, and the location was just too convenient. But I should have listened. The first time I brought it in, I felt the charge for the repair in order was vastly overstated. The rep I talked to was extremely rude when I actually had follow up questions about what exactly had been done and how that resolved my problem. What's worse, the rattle I brought it in for didn't even go away--not even that very day. I brought it to a subsequent, very honest mechanic in another town (I won't say who, as this isn't about advertising someone else), who DID fix the rattle at a fair price and confirmed that this was clearly an overcharge in his opinion. Overcharged for not addressing the problem, wonderful. I can't tell you what they actually did, but they sure made a few bucks off it.
I vowed not go back again. And that remained true for about 2 years. Then, I had something of an unexpected car problem right in the Brookline area where I live, had kind of let the past event recede in my mind a little bit, and didn't feel I wanted to bring the car a more significant distance to another dealership or mechanic. Yeah, that's the part that's my fault--I can't believe I went back to the well with these guys again.
All I can say about Round 2 is that it was even worse. This overcharge was even more egregious. And this time (unlike the first), I was given the "we already started the work" line so I was locked in to just accepting it! In retrospect, I should have taken them to small claims, but that ship has sailed. It was followed up by a problem at the end that I was treated so rudely about when I asked about it, you almost think it's make believe--it seems like a movie.
That was officially the end. I have never and would never go back, even if I got a flat tire in front of the dealership. I've since found the best and most honest autobody shop I've ever had, which doesn't hurt either.
For those considering coming to this place, Audi of Brookline remains the worst consumer experience I've personally ever had, and by the looks of some of these other reviews I'm not alone. You might think to yourself "come on, all dealerships are pretty sleazy," but I've gone to others for buying and service over the years and never seen an operation like this one.
If you have had a bad experience as an Audi owner, consider contacting Audi USA to talk to them about it. Don't just leave a review online. It really doesn't have to be like this.
I think it's also important to note it appears clear that for the last month, this dealership has been posting fake reviews about itself, or paying a service to do that, at dealerrater.com. Before a month ago, over the course of 4 or so years they had accumulated 30 mostly 1-2 star reviews there. In the last 35 days, they have gotten nearly 80 reviews, every single one of them 5 stars. What sort of dealership has to resort to faked good word of mouth? The kind that has earned terrible word of mouth, that's who. It seems a better solution would be, starting today, to change their behavior and earn good press, but I suppose that's naive.
In case that sounds hard to believe, just check the filtered reviews right here on Yelp. 2 hidden reviews are written by someone with the screen name "David D.," both perfect reviews, by the way. Well "David D." is an employee of Audi of Brookline named Davidian. His "consumer" reviews of his own employer started at the exact same time as the new crop of reviews at that other website I mentioned.
