I did take a star off because w/ this being my 1st visit to ATX Tans, Melissa failed to introduce herself to me. I had to introduce myself to her 1st, which then prompted her to tell me her name. Call me a stickler for wanting to know the name of someone who gets the privilege of seeing me in my "birthday suit". I had used this place in the past, my guess is with the old owner and absolutely loved her and the tan. Today I made an appointment for 1240 pm, arrived at 1235 to a locked door and a dark store. In the past she had been a few minutes late so I waited, and waited....nothing. I called the phone number to only hear that they are not accepting calls at this time. Finally left at 105 pm but wasted 30 min. I'll never be coming here again or recommending this place to anyone. Pure disappointment. read more

Best free hand airbrush tan in Austin! I have been many times before traveling or special occasions. Melissa does an excellent job and always has a lot of availability, even when I've booked at the last minute. I appreciate her attention to detail and I've always felt comfortable with her when getting sprayed. As long as you moisturize properly and don't exfoliate after the tan, I've had mine last up to 7 days each time. read more

Okay, I actually had a lot of fun getting this spray tan! When you come in to a tanning salon, you already expect big personalities to be working there and the owner is just that. You can tell she knows exactly what she is doing, and could probably even spray tan someone in their sleep. I think overall it took around 30 minutes with spray and dry time. Being someone who does not often get spray tans, I appreciate the professionalism and direction she would give. She makes sure you look like perfection, and takes the effort to make sure you FEEL like perfection too. I wish I had before/after pictures, but tan looks great in my wedding photos. read more

I am sharing my experience to hopefully help someone from experiencing the same. I went online on a Wednesday evening and booked a mobile spray tan for the following evening. My appointment was confirmed the same evening and accepted. The next day I received a call from Melissa explaining the complexities of her day and the appointment time. In an effort to try to be helpful to her scheduling needs of her small business, we discussed 2 potential other options that same evening. I left work a bit early to accommodate her scheduling need. On my way home, I texted her with my ETA and also called her. She asked me if I received her text, which I did not. She confirmed she had sent the text to the wrong number. She then asked that I come to her salon rather than the mobile tan I had booked. I explained the reasons why I had requested the mobile tan. She then told me a story that her day had changed with 3 additional tans added to her schedule for a bridal party that said that they had booked and not received a confirmation. She told me she was in route to me, but would be a bit later and to get my make up off and get into a robe, which I did. She then called back a few minutes later to tell me she was now back at her Salon as traffic would take too long and she simply could not make it. She placed the blame on my for booking the evening prior. An appointment that she had accepted and confirmed. I asked if she could still do the later evening time that we had discussed as I was leaving the next day. She said she would "need to see how the rest of her night went". and again blamed me for booking the day before telling me that Tuesday and Wednesdays are her worst days. With this information in the future, I would certainly give consideration to booking further in advance to support a small business. However, why offer that appointment time, confirm and accept the booking that same day if the appointment time would not work. I am now left scrambling for another option. Very unprofessional. Also very unprofessional to blame your customer. Very disappointed. I am hoping this review saves someone else from a similar stressful situation. read more

My sister Madison referred me to the place and MAN was I IMPRESSED. The girls here really know what they're doing. I, myself have a very pale completion and was a little nervous getting my very FIRST tan 2 days before my wedding. I gave a rough time estimate of when I would be there not understanding that I got booked at a specific time, I thought it was a walk in situation. When I showed up later than expected I got LECTURED and was treated so horribly. During my tan, I continued to be talked down to until I cried. I booked my tan online using the salons appointment scheduler. My appointment was for today and I got a text at 10:30 last night asking if I could reschedule. I was asleep so I responded today that I have work and cannot come in at 1pm. They told me they're closing early and cannot take me. Now I won't be able to find anywhere last minute since my trip is early tomorrow morning. I have had spray tans from this place a few times over the past 2 years and they were decent. Upon my recent return from travel (May 2023), I realized someone in my party had tested positive for Covid the morning of my spray tan. I tried to reschedule online but was unable to, so I called to let ATX Tans know I would like to reschedule my spray tan out of courtesy for the company. Although it was two hours before my appointment, I hoped they would understand and make an exception, given my loyalty to the company and being an ongoing client/customer. However, to my shock, when I called, the owner (Melissa), told me I couldn't cancel, screamed at me on the phone, hung up on me, and asked if "I was done" when I tried to explain and tell her I'd like to reschedule. I have never once rescheduled or asked to reschedule in short notice, I've always been on time if not early to every appointment in the past with her. She was aggressive and extremely defensive. Worst of all, I'd been her customer many times over the last year and a half, and she said to me on the phone, "you've only visited us once before." That statement was inaccurate, shocking, sad, and disappointing. I have had appointments with Melissa 5+ times and had even recently purchased a package deal with them as I was an ongoing customer. For a small business owner to not know who their repeatable clients are, and to not know when to respect the folks who have been loyal customers to them in the past is unacceptable and bad business practice. 1 star for how Melissa handled the situation and treated me. No excuse for the unwarranted, aggressive behavior from her on top of her not knowing I had been her client for over a year and a half. Going to much better places for spray tans in downtown Austin. I was more than disappointed to get a tan here. The lady who works there is rude and was completely demeaning to me during my experience at ATX tans. The tan was sub-par, way to dark after I asked for a light tan and the lady who tanned me was extremely passive agressive towards me. I've never felt more uncomfortable at a place than here. To add, during my tanning experience I asked where to turn when being sprayed and the lady fully grabbed my ear lob and yanked me by the ear and goes "move right here". Not kidding. So I have gotten a lot of spray tans in Austin and ATX tans is seriously the BEST TAN I've ever gotten here. Melissa is amazing and actually looks at your skin tone and decides what formula is best (instead of getting the same tan as everyone else like other places). I'm naturally pale but like to look tan and Melissa did an amazing job giving me a perfect tan that was natural looking. I got my tan last weekend for a UT football game and it still looks good! As long as you make sure to keep you skin hydrated, a good spray tan should last a while and this one definitely does. I've had horrible tans at places in Austin that leave my hands and feet looking so splotchy and gross. Mellisa is so careful around the feet and hands and will make sure it all blends naturally.
