While working, they discovered our dryer vent was heavily clogged and not releasing lint properly, turning what we thought was just a routine cleaning into saving us from a genuine fire hazard. Seems like they did a good job, took around 1-1.5 hrs, however left a lot of dust and debris after on my kitchen counter and on the bed in the bedroom after they left. They also helped me change the air filters in the heater. Addendum: upgraded to add 5 stars after they reached to to rectify the situation. Appreciate it

The quoted price for a two-head unit with external pump was in line or lower than the competing bids, backed by an extended multi-year warranty as Mitsubishi Diamond Certified installers. Heat pumps installed alongside existing central air is not an uncommon request, but we had a great conversation with Brook on how we might update to a more modern system in the future, given our original(!) furnace's age. Side questions for him aside, we had a thoughtfully sized system outlined and quoted within a day, and scheduled within two weeks. Our experience with the installation was similarly great, with the team arriving promptly as scheduled and taking the care to put on shoe coverings moving through the house. Everyone was polite and efficient, bringing the plan to life and bringing us in early when there were onsite decisions to be made in our unique spaces. When an issue arose on the cooling not blowing as cold as we had expected, they were quick to assist with troubleshooting, and had it fully remediating within the week. Permits are still pending due to the Oakland backlog, but their lead electrician will also be onsite during the inspection process so I have no worries there. While our immediate need during the heat wave this Spring was cooling our living spaces, I have full confidence that whenever we go to multizone heating and cooling, Spot Free will be our go-to experts!

I received 3 quotes for our HVAC work:…read more- Spot Free: $21K - Vendor we used: $23K - Another vendor who we used before and were happy with but increased their pricing recently: $32K We decided not to go with Spot Free for 2 reasons. First, the heat pump brand was changed in the quote to one that we did not want (Carrier). We were replacing it due to leakage of carbon monoxide. This is obviously a safety concern for us, but also a peace of mind issue. We had discussed using Carrier at the site visit, but I was adamant to avoid it. Second, Brook mentioned that there was a manufacturer's recall on our existing 1-year old Mitsubishi heat pump (we have 2 zones with 2 separate units) and that we should pay him out of pocket to fix it. I was confused, because we received no information regarding a recall and typical costs associated with a recall are not paid by the customer. Furthermore, we hadn't experienced any issues and we're still within the warranty period from the manufacturer and installer. Brook said he had been processing a lot of recalls on units he installed and Mitsubishi was slow to send parts so it's easier to pay him directly for the repair. I contacted the original installer, who we had a very positive experience with initially, and they said there was no recall. I also looked online and couldn't find any information regarding a recall.

We decided to hire ATLAS for the job: the furnace was old, and the original roof ducting did a lousy job distributing the heat throughout the house. I was always cold even when the heat was "blasting". ATLAS did a thorough and patient analysis of our old system. They decided to double up the ducts to provide more air flow, and they also organized the flow inside the ducts: it worked. Frankly, the final cost was reasonable, considering the benefits I am getting from it. I particularly recommend Nick and Scott who supervised the project: they really looked into the project, then fixed the problem. Plus: the work was clean, and the communication great all along. The biggest thing that sets Galaxy apart, though, is their communication. Every message was answered promptly, and none of my questions went unanswered. I really appreciated that because many contractors are simply too busy to stay on top of communication. Greg and Jake did a stellar job, including some impromptu cleaning of the back deck! I chose to include a disinfecting wipedown of all the individual items stored in the basement - and removed for the cleaning - so now feel truly at ease about hygiene, (eliminated) hantavirus risk, etc. It was pricey, absolutely, but I won't have to do this again for ages, so well worth it. QC referred us to Harry Clark Heating and Air Conditioning for a complete upgrade to replace our gas furnace. HC owner Don Marshall spent an hour and a half assessing the existing heating system in our 1908 home, answering all our questions and providing a detailed quote for a two zone system the next day. After reviewing the quote with QuitCarbon, we decided the price was competitive and chose not to get other bids. I should mention that I'm a licensed mechanical engineer and have lots of experience working with contractors. Armando Hernandez and his crew completed the install in one week and we were up and running on day 5. The quality of the workmanship was excellent. Armando addressed my many questions and was a pleasure to work with. There was an issue with a defective part in the air handler. The project manager Matt Schwoyer was able to resolve it with their supplier, and the part was replaced the following week. Everyone at Harry Clark was professional and responsive throughout the whole project. We are pleasantly surprised with the improved and consistent comfort level in our home and would recommend HC to anyone considering a heat pump retrofit.

I opened a project on Yelp and went with Harry Clark. Oscar was the tech who came out on the scheduled appointment date. He was very tidy wearing shoe covers and after climbing his ladder to get into my attic, he was able to determine that it wasn't the pilot light that was the issue with my furnace, but it was simply turned off. He turned it on and then went to work installing my smart thermostat. After he got it installed, he showed me how to adjust the settings. Finally he also examined my living room fireplace and showed me where the switch was inside the panel to turn it on. He was clean and efficient and I'm very happy with the service. I called them later and asked to be put on a list for annual furnace maintenance. High recommend Oscar and Harry Clark Heating and Air.
