Last year we had Attic Construction rodent proof our house, remove and replace the attic insulation, and they did a superb job. Very strange experience. I thought these guys come highly rated on YELP so i gave them a call. (Now as I inspect their reviews, i see lots of 1 star complains of scams and high pressure sales tactics.) Now my review: I am adding 1100 sqfoot addition to my home and we're at the stage where we need insulation installed... I called two other companies and their bids came in at around $1500 and $1600. I called Attic and their bid came in at a whopping $6800... nutsz. Maybe they don't do insulation or the estimator doesn't know what he's looking at.. Who in their right mind pays $6800 for insulation of a 1100 sqfoot addition LOL... I showed my contractor the bid from Attic and he laughed so hard , he thought it was unbelievable the price they quoted. Update: I had a competitor install the insulation which was installed between the outside walls, in my garage attic and subfloors. Total cost was $1500. For $300 more, I could have had them put insulation between the first and second floor of my addition. My contractor told me I should pay approximately $1400-1700 for my insulation and the competitor came in right in the middle.. The inspector came out the next day and signed his approval. Now back to Attic Construction's bid... uhhh $6800? No matter how much Kevin C. trying to justify their pricing, its ridiculous. For $6800, I should be insulation a 3000 sqfoot house with 10000 sqfoot of insulation lol. Total rip-off.. beware, they are high pressure sales.. Don't fall for the do it today and get a discount .. Make sure you get multiple bids from other contractors to compare the price difference. I think these guys eventually find a sucker that overpays for their work -- not with me and hopefully not with YELP customers. Or maybe they saw I was spending lots of money on a new addition so they jacked their price up thinking I was a sucker. read more

As the name implies... Attic construction requires that your home actually have an attic for them to do insulation. A really nice gentleman came out on time to give us an estimate today and he informed me that they do not insulate homes with flat roofs, especially ones with plaster rather then drywall in the ceiling. This is an unsolicited recommendation. It is rare indeed that I get such superior service from a contractor. I needed to get new screen vents under my eaves to prevent any rat infestations into the attic. Their service representative, Jason, gave a thorough inspection of our attic and stated it did not need any other maintenance other than the vent replacements, and did not try to up-sell us on anything. Attic construction came out to bid a full attic restoration that included removal of old insulation, rodent proofing, vacuum, sanitize and new insulation. The sales rep, Adam, was very friendly and did a thorough job explaining everything to me and performed a full inspection with pictures. The were very accommodating with the scheduling process and their entire staff communicates very well. They also arrived on time. Once the project was done they sent me before and after pictures and followed up to make sure everything was good. Very expensive but the do great work. I would definitely recommend them. These guys did the classical pressure sales pitch of we just finished a job and had product left over!, if you buy today you will get it for a super price! Been there and heard that from everyone else! The guys are actually very nice people but do have their faults. They came to our attic and yes it was old insulation and for the safety of our 1 year old we wanted it redone. They put on their suits and go up but never protect their feet so when they came down it was all over my floors but what was worst is that they then proceeded to give me a quote and sat on my new dinning table chairs with their filthy suits still on. To say the least they left a lot of trash they brought from upstairs into my new chairs that we sit on. The stuff is filthy and nasty! We still agreed to it because it seemed a fare price and we didn't want our baby breathing all the old stuff in the attic! They put protectors on the floor but still the stuff that sticks to their feet when they are going up and down flew all over the place in the house. Then they used a window for better access for the hoses but that left dust all over our bedroom! Not fun to clean up! The job was going to take like 4 hours but it took more like 7 or 8 hours and we were hostage to stay at our house until they finished. We had to get my mom to keep the baby overnight because they finished soo late we had no time to go pick her up! If a more realistic time frame would have been given to us we would have planed accordingly or left it for another day no matter the cost! Once done they picked everything up but it was hard to see how well they cleaned because it was so dark! Nevertheless they all left but two guys and when I opened my bathroom it was all covered in pink stuff they sprayed! I then went to my husbands bathroom and the same thing but even worse it also happened in my daughters bedroom! I ran out and told them that it needed to be cleaned. My sales guy immediately got one of the guys, who did not want to do it, to come clean up everything they missed. The guy finished and left immediately but when I turned our fan on a whole lot more started falling into our bathrooms again. Since the cleaning guy had already left the poor sales guy had to do it. Then we noticed that one of our light fixtures in the kitchen had been pushed down and it was hanging down more on one side than the other. They tried to fix it but really couldn't do much, it is not very noticeable but it was just superficially fixed. We thought we were all done with the nightmare when overnight we noticed we were freezing! I am glad we had arranged for our baby to stay ay grandma's or she would have suffered. When we checked our heater was not working and it was late and freezing! unfortunately for us it was one of those rare super cold nights in San Diego! I called them in the morning and they said they would call and see if they could find a heater repair company to fix our problem! It was the weekend so none were available and he said they would try to find someone for Monday! We couldn't wait that long with a one year old so I started making calls myself! I did find an emergency repair guy but he was pricy! My husband proceeded to go to the attic to see what they had done wrong and lucky all they did was forget to plug it back in! All the cold and stress for a mistake they did and actually could have cost them if my husband hadn't gone up to try to fix it himself. We also noticed in the morning that our front porch and grass was all full of the pink stuff! It was very frustrating to have to do some much cleaning afterwards and concerning since these are the areas where our daughter plays! It is now 2 months later and we still get pink stuff coming down from our vents but not as much! I think all they had to do is tape up those vents and prevent anything at all from coming down into the house and they should check the whole house before leaving as their job effect the whole house. The sales team is really nice and hardworking but there are definite areas of improvement needed. These guys are nice but there are also other professional companies that do the same job for the same price! read more

I could not be more pleased with the service by Tomas and the rest of the crew from Attic Construction. Tomas and another gentleman showed up on time and checked my attic for rodents. A few minutes later they emerged from my hot attic with pics and a proposal. Minutes after I agreed to a complete clean out and re-insulation, three more guys appeared and they were back in the attic... From noon until 10:00 that night these five guys busted their butts cleaning out the old, nasty insulation, sealing all the openings with screen and foam insulation, sanitizing the space, and blowing in new, fluffy insulation. They also walked around the outside and sealed possible entry points. When they were done, I couldn't tell they were ever here. Frankly, I was a bit concerned about handing anyone such a big job on short notice but Attic Construction did a fantastic job at a VERY reasonable price. read more

Called Attic Construction out to look at our attic insulation. We were losing a lot of heat in one upstairs bedroom during the winter, and gaining a lot in the summer. So I wanted to see if we could address this problem by improving our insulation. Another company came out and told us they could add six inches of blown-in for $1,100. Adam from Attic Construction came out, did a *very* thorough inspection - and told us we didn't need anything at all! Our insulation was fine, the problem was just that the room is above a garage. More insulation in the attic wouldn't solve the problem. I really appreciate Adam's integrity and professionalism in not trying to sell us something we didn't need. I didn't end up using Attic Construction's services, but believe me - if I need attic work done in the future, I definitely will! read more

They have a picture of a rat on their business card. Very appropriate. So here's what will happen: A super-nice, young, but naive guy will come to your house and measure and inspect your attic. He'll recommend removing all the current insulation and cleaning the hell out of the attic, as if you breathe the air that's up there. You don't and, by the way, a better company said there's absolutely no need to remove the old insulation if it's not moldy, wet or contaminated (rats/mice). So the guy gave me an estimate for insulation removal, cleaning and sealing the attic, and blowing in new stuff. It was based on $1.50/SF. The removal was about $2,700 and the installation of the new stuff was the same. So $5,400 total. The salesman called his boss to "let him know what was found." I've never seen a rep call the boss for approval of a price. How ridiculous. Of course, the price was good according to the boss. A few minutes later the boss called back and said there had been a cancellation for this Sunday and if I took that time-slot they would give me 15% off. This was an obvious sales maneuver and I told him I had to gather other estimates. The guy left looking and acting surprised that I wouldn't say yes to the sale--after all, what a great price it was. I came to know about Attic Construction on a coupon I had received in the mail. I had them to have my attic assessed after I heard a few noises thinking I had rodents up in the attic. The staff is extremely professional and gave me an earlier appointment that originally scheduled, which worked out perfectly with my schedule. Good news is there were no rodents and I really appreciate Tony's professionalism and honesty in his assessment report. I am pleased to give positive feedback about my attic inspection. Jake came to my home on time and was very nice, he's dog friendly too. Following the inspection, he gave a favorable report. There was nothing to clean with no signs of pests. I had a coupon for an attic cleaning. Jake could have easily gotten his vacuum and 'worked' the deal. I really APPRECIATE Jake for being so honest. I have anxiety about 'estimates' and 'inspections', very rarely can you find companies who allow their technicians to be honest and not overcharge the consumer. In this case, Jake said there was nothing to do, therefore no charge. I wish there were more companies who treat people fairly. read more

Mike and his crew came out as scheduled for the initial work.., even in the middle of a pouring rainstorm. Mike and team were also very professional & respectful. Unexpectedly, they ran into an asbestos issue an hour or so into the job. They had to stop working until another company could come remove it, but that too all got resolved the next day. A few years ago, rats found their way into my attic. I hired a contractor, who sealed some of the entry points, but apparently not all of them. The pesky vermin eventually found another way in, and my attic was a mess. Yuck. I happened upon Attic Construction when I was looking in a coupon book. Dan arrived to our scheduled appointment early (after courteously calling to make sure it was ok), and he took a look. He and his co-worker took pictures of the worst areas and showed them to me, so that I didn't have to actually go up. We then negotiated a price and they began work that same afternoon! In one afternoon, Dan and crew removed all of the horizontal insulation, power vacuumed, removed and replaced a heating duct, sealed various potential entry points, sanitized with a chlorine bleach solution, let it dry, and then sprayed new R-30 insulation. The entire process was efficient, friendly, professional and generally very well done. I never heard a swear word, the guys were super courteous, quick and hard working. Not a typical contractor experience. I am especially impressed with the 1 year guarantee. If rats make their way in again, Attic Construction will come out and take care of it! One word of warning... it is an expensive process, so be prepared. However, the price I paid came well below another quote I got. What choice is there, though, when you have soiled insulation and rat carcasses in your attic??? I'm not gonna get up there and clean it like they did! Amazing company!!!. I found them from an ad in the UT newspaper. I read your yelp reviews and decided to make an appt with them for Thursday, 1/8/2015 at 8:30 am. After meeting with them, I told them if they could do it today that they are hired. Needless to say, their owner/manager is a business man and move schedules and crew around. So they gathered the crew and stated by 10am and were completely done by 8:30 pm. What did they do: Removed all the old attic installation. Sealed all the openings into the ceiling of the house and around attic vents. Added wire mesh over all openings in the roof vents to prevent rodents, etc from entering the home (nice inclusion and very unexpected. KUDOS.) Then blew in all new Owens Corning insulation. We did R38 as I am fighting a HUGE SDG&E bill (side note SDG&E price increases have added a $100+ to my monthly bill with no increase in Kwh). The team did a very professional job. We used Attic Construction to remove the insulation from our attic that had been previously infested with rats. After the insulation was removed they sprayed the attic with bleach to disinfect the area. They also secured all perimeter holes so new rats couldn't find their way into the attic. From the bid to completing the job, the guys were awesome! They were all so friendly and courteous. Several times throughout the day I personally noticed them really taking the time to do the job right. Jake came to my house to give me an estimate for installing insulation in my attic. He was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He went up into my attic to survey it, whereas two other estimators (from other companies) had just gotten on a ladder and peered into the attic. Jake explained the difference between fiberglass and cellulose insulation and the advantages/disadvantages of each one. I ended up having Attic Construction install the insulation and they did an excellent job. They laid down plastic throughout the house and even vacuumed everything up after the job was finished. I cannot tell you how pleased my wife and I are with the job they just did for us. We knew we had had animals in our attic -- and perhaps still did. Two companies came out and confirmed our worst suspicions and tendered bids to clean up rodent droppings, remove the old insulation (where some animals had forged nests), repair/replace damaged ductwork, sanitize the entire area, and install new, more current insulation. The first bidder didn't even include new insulation in its bottom line -- and was a full $1,500 higher than Attic Construction. Jake and his crew were marvelous. He explained every step that would be taken... and then informed us that his crew had finished another job early and could start ours within minutes. They did all of the work described above in 6-7 hours (the other bid called for work to take place over 3-4 days). They protected themselves with proper ventilation gear and and took appropriate rest periods, and they protected our property with plastic sheeting as they went about their business. Their cleanup was so thorough, it was impossible to tell that a four-person work crew had been in our house. If your attic needs cleaning, get several bids -- but make sure Attic Construction is on the list. read more

My home was built in 1958 and the original insulation was barely there. Lots of debris from the new roof installation had fallen through and it was one big mess. Not to mention the gaps around the edges where the roof meets the header of the house frame. Nice entry points for bugs, rats and anything else that will fit. No problem for Antman to get through. Enter Attic Construction and crew. Adam was the supervisor, along with three associates they got down to business. I originally contacted him for an estimate only. But when I saw the condition of the attic I couldn't put it off any longer. Heat was escaping in winter and I had no protection against the hot summer day. The team was amazing and they went start to finish in 6 hours. On a Sunday no less. I highly recommend this company without reservation. I got the best insulation you can get. Ron and his crew were outstanding. This was our second bid for someone to come in and re-insulate our house that was built in the 1970's. My husband and I suspected that our upstairs would be cooler if we replaced our insulation. Called Attic Construction because I received a postcard so made an appointment, Mike the technician arrived on time, made the inspection and show me some pictures of my attic and gave me an estimate of what needed my attic to be done. So the 95.00 for clean up fro the postcard ended in clean up, removal and installation of new insulation, sanitation and deodorization. = $000.00 but I guess is something I had to do it according to the pictures taken by Mike. He explained everything what it needed to be done and worked with me on the $ in which initially gave me a very high estimate but fortunately we came to a fare price. My attic was a mess, and before I started contacting attic repair companies for quotes, I went into my attic a few times to check out what needed to be done, and decide what things I could do myself to save some money. When I finally admitted that I was in over my head, I requested a quote here on yelp and they responded immediately to set up an appointment for Adam came over to check out my attic and give me a quote. He took pictures of the places where rodents were getting in and the damage they'd done to my insulation. He was extremely professional and explained exactly what fixes and improvements needed to be done. Based on all the time I had already spent crawling around my attic and researching what repairs I needed, I can say he was 100% honest and accurate, and gave me a competitive price. I was able to set up my repair for the next day (another client cancelled so I took their spot). The guys showed up on time in the morning and were finished by the end of the day. We saw their ad in one of the San Diego magazines few weeks ago. Made a call to get an inspection done in our attic to see what needs to be done since we were hearing some noises ever now and then. Got the appointment scheduled for Sunday morning. 2 gentlemen showed up ON TIME, unlike most of the other companies. They did a complete inspection of attic & went through everything with my husband and reported no issue. This FREE inspection took them at least 45 minutes. I recently had my house tented for termites and wanted to be sure the attic was clean. I had an appointment to clean up any debris and perhaps get new screens for the vents. Josh was prompt and called me to let me know he was on his way. After a quick inspection he determined that my vent screens were fine and I had no rodent debris to clean up. Josh came out and did a complete inspection of my attic, then sat down with me to go over the entire process. Other companies I contacted just emailed me a quote. Jose and the crew were extremely professional and thorough. My attic is difficult to maneuver, but without complaint they cleaned out all of the old insulation and debris perfectly. We were really impressed with Attic Construction's quality of work, politeness of the crew and overall professional approach to the job. We received 3 quotes from attic repair contractors, and I must say their quote was originally the highest. However, after mentioning this fact to our very knowledgeable sales rep, Oscar, he was able to get the price reduced to be competitive. We were very relieved because we felt that the work from this company would be first class. Our home is almost 30 years old with the original rather scant insulation and the worst part ----- a disgusting rodent problem. Oscar initially took several photos of the attic and then explained in detail what work would be needed. The crew, led by Logan, arrived on time (with a phone call 30 mins prior to arriving). They worked non-stop the whole day, at least 8 hours. After removal of the old insulation, the attic was sanitized, the insulation replaced, ALL air ducts replaced and all possible entry points for the rodents sealed with wire mesh on the outside of the house. The cleanup was thorough. Oscar came during the day to see how the project was progressing. We really appreciated this professional approach. We were given about 90 before and after photos and we were thrilled with the transformation. I would highly recommend this company. read more
