One of the best fish restaurants in Berlin. Every single dish was excellent. The Gambaspfanne is not to be missed

I was super excited to come for multiple reasons. Firstly, I was stoked to finally have made it to…read morea Yelp event, secondly I love exploring new restaurants, and thirdly I love Scandinavian food. Munch's Hus is in an area I normally don't frequent that much, but it is super close to a U-Bahn stop, so getting here is really easy. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very cosy with Norwegian music playing in the background. The menu ranging is not big, but all the dishes sound delicious and the ones we had, all were able to keep up with our expectations. It took me some time to be able to decide, but with a beer in one hand and Elkblood (mixed drink from berries and vodka - oh god), I was finally able to make my decision. I went with the Kjottkaker, Norwegian meatballs (I am sure many of you know the Swedish/Ikea version of that Köttbullar). I received 3 massive hand-made meatballs, potatoes and cabbage. Everything was delicious and filled me up to the max. The service at Munch's Hus was also great. Very attentive waiters, who were up to explaining everything, if we had any questions. The prices are also ok, considering the quality and service. All in all, a great discovery and I will definitely be coming back at some point.

You're above…read morescouring Edeka, Aldi, or Lidl for a cheap sandwich or salad because you're reaaaally craving something a little more substantial and flavorful on this dreary winter day. And you can even make it to the Bülowstraße/Yorckstraße area in practically no time at all. The lunch menu at Munch's Hus is what you need right now. And tomorrow. And the day after that. (Variety is the spice of life and Norwegian cuisine in this part of town: the daily specials change every day and don't repeat week after week.) There are three types of dishes to choose from: meat, fish, or vegetarian. I've always been happy with their fish dish of the day--it's a Scandinavian restaurant after all. For under €7, you can enjoy a decently sized piece of fish cooked to tender perfection, along with some vegetables on the side and a bread basket. It's a balanced meal that you'll find little to complain about.

As my late-night döner habits can attest to, I wouldn't necessarily call myself a health nut when…read moreit comes to satisfying particular food cravings. (Carbs, carbs, meat, with a side of vegetables? Count me in--as long as you hold the tomatoes and throw in some extra grease for good measure.) So when it comes to fish and chips, I expect something equally as unhealthy and delicious. Dare I say even more unhealthy and delicious, as everything in this quintessentially British meal is meant to be fried. So maybe I was just barking up the wrong tree because I should've just hopped on a cheap Easyjet from Schönefeld instead of ordering a chippy in this corner of Prenzlauer Berg. After reading the other Yelp reviews, I realize that the most confusing thing about Der Fischladen for a first-time diner is that the side shop with the fish counter--the most intuitive place to enter--is devoid of atmosphere. And the other confusing thing? The meal itself. The fish in question was devoid of flavor because I couldn't taste the batter, though it was certainly tender. (A tad too tender, if you ask me though, as I questioned whether it was a little undercooked.) The chips seemed like frozen fries from a local supermarket and the ketchup tasted too much like curry ketchup for my liking, though I saw a later diner request what must've been normal ketchup from the server. Maybe we should just let British pubs do what they do best instead. And to be fair, it seems like Der Fischladen's specialities are actually the fish market on the side and all of the other fish dishes so the verdict is still out when it comes to the healthier seafood options.

Tried their fish and chips. They are more expensive than their partner restaurant "fischfabrik". 3…read moresmall pieces for 10€ compared to 5.90€ at fischfabrik. The batter is definitely better at fischfabrik. If you are looking for fish and chips and a better deal - go to fischfabrik

We loved the breaded fish (fish and chips) with Scholle which was about 5-7€ per piece. The pieces are medium size. The Remoulade sauce was also great! Unfortunately a lot of their fish was already sold out so we recommend to come early as you can also buy fresh raw fish home. The Seelachs grilled was light and good, same for the dorade where we paid 11€ for an entire fish. If you love fish, this is a an awesome place! The salad is fresh an Update: We went again for the fish and chips and chose Kabeljau as fish. The Remouladensaucen is great and the Fish absolut tasty with a perfect tasty crunch outside. For 16€ for 350grams is a really good price and the service is nice as well. We are fans!

Looking at a map I understand how far Berlin sits from an ocean but this friend had consumed seafood and had no adverse affects so why not me? On a night of dining solo I seized the opportunity to eat the verboten seafood, not just at any old place but at a place which specialized in it. That right there is a rarity as, aside from the sushi joints, I don't recall seeing anyplace besides this one which specialized in seafood. Fischfabrik is adorable. It reminded me of San Francisco's Anchor Oyster Bar though perhaps a squidge smaller. Two-thirds of the intimate restaurant is taken up with seating at high tables on high chairs (not highchairs). The remaining third is a combination seafood market and meal prep area, overseen by two young men who double as waiters. The whole place is very intimate and, when full, feels like you've tumbled upon a secretly special spot. You have. An amazingly long menu for such a tiny place is supplemented by specials scrawled on a chalkboard Parisian style. For seating I doubled up with another solo diner and, when his seafood salad (11€) arrived I merely pointed at his order. That is what I wanted. The seafood salad was a perfect entree comprised of four different types of prepared seafood atop a simple salad and accompanied by home-fried style potatoes. It was a deceivingly filling platter of food which paired perfectly with my Prosecco. Cute place, reasonable prices, good food, and a kindly solo gentleman diner with whom to share my table. A girl couldn't ask for more.
