(A tad too tender, if you ask me though, as I questioned whether it was a little undercooked.) The chips seemed like frozen fries from a local supermarket and the ketchup tasted too much like curry ketchup for my liking, though I saw a later diner request what must've been normal ketchup from the server. Maybe we should just let British pubs do what they do best instead. And to be fair, it seems like Der Fischladen's specialities are actually the fish market on the side and all of the other fish dishes so the verdict is still out when it comes to the healthier seafood options.

The remaining third is a combination seafood market and meal prep area, overseen by two young men who double as waiters. The whole place is very intimate and, when full, feels like you've tumbled upon a secretly special spot. You have. An amazingly long menu for such a tiny place is supplemented by specials scrawled on a chalkboard Parisian style. For seating I doubled up with another solo diner and, when his seafood salad (11€) arrived I merely pointed at his order. That is what I wanted. The seafood salad was a perfect entree comprised of four different types of prepared seafood atop a simple salad and accompanied by home-fried style potatoes. It was a deceivingly filling platter of food which paired perfectly with my Prosecco. Cute place, reasonable prices, good food, and a kindly solo gentleman diner with whom to share my table. Here is the drill: show up around 12.30 or 13.00 on Saturday and order your whole mackerel or filet. You can then either hang around for half an hour or so or do some shopping. At this point, there's probably a space to sit down, and your order will have come to the front of the queue. So, basically, go on nice days, when wandering around the Winterfeldplatz market. What you get for your wait is fresh, charcoal grilled, with perfect seasoning. I don't really think of Berlin as a seafood kind of town, but this food stall has made me reconsider, at least for Saturdays.
