What we ordered: 1) unagi don 17€ 2) 6x sake avocado maki 6€ Interior: Super nice, high standard and pretty cool for a date or nice evening! Price value: The unagi don for 17€ was quite pricey. I understand that unagi is expensive but the slices were thin and there was not much in it. I'd say 14-15€ would be considered a good deal. 17 seems to be slightly overpriced The sake avocado was a pretty big roll filled with lots of salmon. The 6 euro might seem a bit for 6 pieces but given their size and taste it's pretty ok! Taste: The unagi don was good but not outstanding. Definitely better than it looked. I'd wish for it to have more unagi sauce or at least have the sauce on the side. Would I order it again - only if I crave unagi. The rice was good. I feel like if you buy unagi at a grocery store and cook sushi rice you'd get a similar experience with a Better value The sake avocado roll was surprisingly good! It was big filled with lots of salmon, great texture and taste of the rice. Really well done! I'd order that again!

We had an 8:30 reservation; unfortunately a table was not ready so we did end up waiting a little while for one to open up. The hostess was really incredible & made sure we had some drinks while we waited and greeted all her regulars so warmly. Once the table was ready, we opted for "tapas style" and the food was really delicious. Raw oysters were on point and the sea bream ceviche and chef specialties were all wonderful. We also ended the night with the passion fruit crème brûlée & it was one of the best I've had. Nice patio seating outside with some indoor seating as well. Definitely recommend making a reservation as this place was quite busy!

Before you go so quick as to dismiss sub 3 star reviews as rants, I'll preface this by saying the FISH was fresh. Taste was good. So thank you Funky Fisch for bringing what seems to be an exotic species to land locked Berlin. Came here with my significant other. Having tried all of Mr Ngo's spots, we were excited at the prospect of another solid meal. We started the night with oysters from some coast of France. Oysters fresh, not the best that I've tasted but they were fresh which is what matters. We then split a small mixed poke with salmon and white fish. Hamachi seems to be somewhat of a rarity in Berlin and both FF and Ryotei have it. Solid props to the food purveyor and the Ngo restaurant dynasty for bringing it to Berlin. Poke was also good. Here's when the night went sour. We ordered the sea bass some Pommes and fish tacos. We sat playing with our leftover poke rice for 35 minutes which felt like a goddamn eternity. I won't go into specifics nor do I want to whine, but a single apology would've made a world of a difference. It's almost as if we were to blame for the delay in the food when half the time the cooks in the kitchen were walking around with their hands behind their back. Sea bass good. Was fresh and grilled perfectly. Fish tacos meh Pommes soggy and cold. I think what irked me the most was the manager who at the end knew that they had ruined our evening but instead of addressing the problem head on, decided to be a dismissive to the idea that an error was made by offering unnecessary services as to wonder if we needed a cab or a receipt. Quality of food is definitely important, but when service is bad, food no longer becomes enjoyable. TLDR: good fresh seafood, bad service. Not worth it.

(Carbs, carbs, meat, with a side of vegetables? Count me in--as long as you hold the tomatoes and throw in some extra grease for good measure.) So when it comes to fish and chips, I expect something equally as unhealthy and delicious. Dare I say even more unhealthy and delicious, as everything in this quintessentially British meal is meant to be fried. So maybe I was just barking up the wrong tree because I should've just hopped on a cheap Easyjet from Schönefeld instead of ordering a chippy in this corner of Prenzlauer Berg. After reading the other Yelp reviews, I realize that the most confusing thing about Der Fischladen for a first-time diner is that the side shop with the fish counter--the most intuitive place to enter--is devoid of atmosphere. And the other confusing thing? The meal itself. The fish in question was devoid of flavor because I couldn't taste the batter, though it was certainly tender. (A tad too tender, if you ask me though, as I questioned whether it was a little undercooked.) The chips seemed like frozen fries from a local supermarket and the ketchup tasted too much like curry ketchup for my liking, though I saw a later diner request what must've been normal ketchup from the server. Maybe we should just let British pubs do what they do best instead. And to be fair, it seems like Der Fischladen's specialities are actually the fish market on the side and all of the other fish dishes so the verdict is still out when it comes to the healthier seafood options.

Takoyaki is a speciality in this restaurant and as simple as that I obviously had to get them. So far these were the best Takoyakis I had in Germany but they are a rare species to begin with. Unfortunately I have one major complaint. The Takoyakis were not fresh and hot. They came out very fast which is surprising considering how long it usually takes to make them. I can only assume they were pre-prepared and finished to order. You could argue that I took pictures but I only needed about 5 minutes for that and all the Takoyakis I had in Japan still burned my mouth even after that time. These here were warm and could be eaten as a whole which I would never do in Japan! SERVICE Lovely service. The staff also explained the different Takoyaki variants on your plate at the table. ATMOSPHERE Small and simple restaurant. I decided to sit at a table outside because I felt it was nothing special. RATING If my Takoyakis were hot and "fresh" it would have taken me back to Japan instantly. I think when you put an item on the front of your menu, you should give it your best even if the customer has to wait. I will gladly wait thirty minutes or longer for hot and fresh Takoyakis. They still get my recommendation!
