Decided to try something different on our last night in Berlin. Yelp pointed us to Dudu, which didn't disappoint. Outdoor seating was packed, but pretty much all the (long) tables inside were open. So if it's nice out and you want to sit outside, be prepared to wait. Since almost all the patrons were eating outside, service inside was somewhat slow. Menus were already on the tables, but it took some time to flag down a waiter and get one in English. Food came out in a timely manner, though. Before placing your order, be sure to check out specials on the chalk board! Dudu's menu mainly consisted of a mix of Vietnamese dishes and sushi. Decided to start with dumplings and the starter beef pho. Although both were good, I enjoyed the dumplings more. I liked how the dumpling wrapper wasn't too thick and that it was packed with pork. The dipping sauce went well with the dumplings and wasn't too sour or spicy. I liked how you can order a starter of the pho. It was the perfect size to get a taste of the dish, leaving room for other items on the menu. The small bowl was packed with noodles and beef shavings. The soup itself didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked it to, but it was still good. Our main meal consisted of a variety of rolls that we shared. The salmon avocado and tuna rolls were pretty good, although standard. The fish was fresh and the ratio of fish to fish was good. The crispy yellow roll, one of Dudu's special rolls, was just okay. The roll itself was deep fried and contained avocado and cucumber. Separate from the roll was diced spicy tuna that you were supposed to eat with the roll. If I knew it would came like this, I don't think I would have ordered it. I was over the actual roll pretty quickly, but really enjoyed the spicy tuna. I also tried some of C's "rice for kids", which was a small bowl of soup rice with chicken on top. He quickly ate all the chicken, but left most of the rice. Again, didn't know the rice would be rice mixed in a broth. You could tell the broth had ginger in it as the taste was pretty prominent. Not so sure this is a good idea for a kid's dish...the only kid's meal offered. Price of all the food was reasonable, although pricier than typical meals in Berlin. read more

Wonderful friendly service. Came in as a party of 12. They took really good care of us. The dumplings were amazing in the dipping sauce so flavorful. The Vietnamese spring rolls were just OK. The sashimi and sushi were extremely fresh and delicious tasting. Very impressed. The rolls are generous, big portions. The chicken curry was OK. Could have used a little bit more heat. How on earth this place has a rating less than 5 stars? This is more unfair than Donald Trump being close to becoming the candidate from Republicans. Whining aside and focusing on food, I have to say that in any other major city such as NY, LA or Moscow, the food Dudu offers will be served only in very upscale and expensive restaurants, and I am talking restaurants like Nobu, not just around-the-corner-posh places. The catch is though that the price tag for this amazing food could be around 25 euros. Surprised? I am too. I will not go down describing every dish on the menu, will just say that 2 most popular positions are Crunchy Dudu and Seafood Plate - stick to those. As a bonus I'd really, really recommend trying desserts - they indeed deserve a praise. Again, you will not be able to try THIS level deserts in any other restaurant for ridiculous 4.5 euros. read more

In a word - a place with a statement. Asian fusion restaurant with style and a saying.. And one of the best curry dishes I have ever had. Longer version (for the brave) - everyone always have a good thing to say about Dudu, but I always thought its unaffordable. Don't let the looks fool you, yes- it is a bit pricy for Berlin. But you can totally handle this :) We went in and got a place outside, as we arrived before the evening peak we had a lot of seats to choose from. The menus are simple without too many options - but that's pretty much all you need. Some starters, sushi plates, a few soups and main dishes, and about 2 or three kinds of desserts. Simple. That is the key. There's a big board with specials and offers which most are not on the menu, so don't forget to check it out too! We started with the papaya salad with tofu which was absolutely amazing. The dressing was very light and you could still enjoy the vegetable flavor. The main dishes didn't arrive too long after - and my oh my - this is PERFECTION in a plate. If you ignore the unpleasant surprise in the shape of fresh tomatoes in my salad (will I ever get over my hate for fresh tomatoes???) This is by far one of the best curry dishes I've had in a while, if not the best one. Thin slices of chicken, perfectly made rice, fresh salad on top, peanuts and creamy curry with a special flavor (our guess is that there's fresh anise in the curry that gives it a nice twist) I loved every single bite of it, and added a bit soy sauce for saltiness and some fresh red chili pepper just to make it a bit spicy, exactly how I like it. It filled me up real good, even though the dish is not too big, spot on people! Even the sushi and the seafood dishes that I don't eat looked so good I was tempted to ask the people next to me for a bite hahaha All in all - a starter, two juice glasses and two main dishes for 27€ is ok, and it's really worth it. Amazing food. Some of the best sushi I've had! I recommend the Tunacado special rolls, so yum!! The selection is nicely creative but not over the top crazy. I also really enjoyed their drinks. I understand opinions differ, and I do get the idea of the concept. But I still think that if I leave after dinner with a severely strained voice, something is a bit wrong. We were basically yelling at each other across the table, and they squeeze so many people in there that it gets uncomfortable. But all in all a very nice experience, would come again. read more

This place was busy. It was a Sat night and you definitely needed reservations. We needed up being able to get a table outside but had to be out by 9PM probably because there were reservations after that. We were easily able to be served and leave by then (about 80 minutes). We had 3 kids so ordered the fish and chicken kids dishes. The chicken and rice kids dish was really good. Excellent broth with lemongrass. We also ordered a beef dish and the lovers sushi plate. The sushi was fresh and decent. The beef dish was also flavorful. They don't have regular pop/sprite here and my kids didn't really like what stye did have, but whatever, they dealt with it. I knocked a star off for two things. They really pack you into the outdoor area which is great for them, but it's super cramped to the point where we were constantly being elbowed in the backs by the people behind us... who didn't seem to care that this was happening over and over. So that was annoying. And the staff here were less than friendly. They did their job and we got the correct food and I also realize this is partly a cultural thing, but she was bordering on rude. read more

An Asian restaurant with very delightful ambiance. Though you have to wait for quite long before the food is readyit is worth waiting. Sushi look so fancy and really tasty (vegi-inside out roll); although in general choices for sushi is a bit limited I tried their Vietnamese roll Nem Song as well and the homemade sauce for the rolls is very special. Cocktails and cold drinks are also pretty outstanding. There is still some rooms for the improvement in their service. Went here to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had reservations but make sure to book a table, it gets pretty crowded in there. Not a lot of space in between the tables. Menu offers an Asian fusion mix based around Japanese cuisine and focused on sushi. Treated myself to the seafood bowl which was amazing!!! Different kinds of sashimi on a bed of rice and some greens. Also some tempura shrimp. It was topped with some tomato salsa and guacamole which was heavenly! The fish was fresh and of really high quality and the toppings just took it to another level! I really don't understand the high ratings for this place! I went here twice, just to make sure that the food was really bad and that I gave it a fair shot. First time there were flies surrounding my rice! Yes, I kid you not. Second time, my salmon definitely came out of a freezer. When I asked where they get their fish from, the waitress looked at me in shock and had no answer. How can you not be prepared for such a simple question at a place where you claim to serve fresh fish? The dishes are not flavorful. Ok, I really really do like Dudu. I love the people who work there, the owner is hilarious, the people who eat there are generally sexy and its in a great part of town. It also is one of the best sushi places in Berlin... Actually I only go there for sushi which is what my rating is about... So why only a 3 star rating? Well, I just can't help it. I've been in Berlin for 5 years now and I'm so happy to be here I wake up every day, jump out of bed and do a little jig because it's so amazing to be in Berlin. But one of the only things it's missing is a high standard for sushi. Dudu is one of the best places in Berlin for sushi, but in other cities with a higher standard, it would just be pretty average. It's doesn't blown my mind at all, it's not like I chomp into it and just lose it how good it is or anything like that. It's just pretty good, and actually, comparatively just too expensive for what it is. But in the context of Berlin, maybe 4 stars, but not in the context of this review unfortunately. Just as an example, they have a 'crispy tiger maki' which is just a shrimp tempura roll with salmon on top... And a spoonful of guacamole on the side. It's just so average (although good for Berlin) and maybe 13 or 14 euros. I dunno, just kinda lame. The rice is good. But yeah really just 3 stars. Best sushi I have had in Germany to date. The menu offers a variety of traditional and Asian inspired dishes; from Pho to Sashimi. I shared the "Sushi for 2" with a friend and had more than enough for the two of us. The fish not only looked very fresh, but also tasted fresh. There were a combination of rolls, sashimi and sushi. All very good. The ambiance of the restaurant was a bit loud, but still very comfortable. Make sure to make a reservation, as tables fill up quickly. Despite the obvious crack one can make about the name of this place, I kind of like it's naive simplicity - and it's fun to say: DUdu, DUDU, duDU, dudu.... Anyways, once you arrive(!) you realise it's achingly hip. Based on food quality alone, I would give 3 stars, +1 star for ambience and setting. My group of 8 was seated in the front outdoor patio section where the tables and benches were quite small and cramped (definitely to small for average-sized adults, especially in Germany) but that made the environment forcibly intimate. The decor was modern and trendy, as was the fashionable Mitte crowd. Service was good to lacking. We had to ask for still water several times, although one waitress was particularly friendly. I ordered seafood bowl (13 euros) which was tasty, but later on other patrons in my group agreed that they were very thirsty (high salt-content?), attributing it to a somewhat "cheap" quality of the food, despite it's fancy presentation. Wow. What a great place. Went with my sister, and we had a beautiful meal. The design of the place is very simple, white walls, no pictures or anything on the walls which gives it a little cold and distanced look. But when it comes to the food it all changes. We had the sharing meal for two with the special mama's roll which was great. A really high class meal of sushi. We had also the Nom Dudu, a papaya salad with a very special touch, that you can order with chicken, tofu or veggie. Try out this salad! The first time I went to Dudu, I had indulged in a few beers and I wasn't sure if my memory of the food being outstanding was a result of my inebriated state. But today I returned in a sober state, and confirmed the suspicions that I originally had - Dudu is another reason I can go home claiming I love the Berlin food scene. On my return visit, I was alone and had the summer rolls which were fresh and crunchy, and the wildekrauter curry (a creamy chicken coconut curry). Both were well seasoned and flavoursome, and the tangy fresh flavours were complemented well by a Moscow mule cocktail with a strong ginger hit. There is also a strong emphasis on sushi rolls on the menu for those that are that way inclined. The wait staff have been friendly both times I have been there - the first on a busy weekend night (even when I knocked a picture off the wall) and the second time when I visited on a quiet Monday afternoon. read more

Some items on the menu are tasty but it is too easy to hit some dull dishes that make the overall experience forgettable if not regrettable. Great great place plagued by pretty mediocre service. I came here tonight for dinner after having read about the place in some HuffingtonPost article about Berlin. I definitely wasn't disappointed in the menu--ordered the mango calpico (for those of you who are familiar with calpico in its original form, this was the fanciest one I've ever been served) and the seafood bowl. There was definitely a lot of really cool stuff going on in the menu that I was really excited about. The seafood bowl came out very quickly despite the restaurant being extremely packed when I got there at 8pm. Instead of giving you wasabi which is what you would expect, they put in what I believe they call salsa roja and guac, which initially sounds like a less than desirable combination, but once you really start thinking about it, it's actually quite brilliant given how avocados are always in sushi rolls. Good helping of sashimi, shrimp, and a nice salad and rice to complement So the terrible service. I don't think anyone here was exceptionally intentionally giving bad service, but I think the place is perhaps too popular so they can't manage it. I'm honestly normally not a picky person about service so for me to notice it is a bit bizarre. But I will say that it's frustrating when waiters are just taking your soy sauce or your utensil jar away from you in the middle of the meal. Waitresses were also very gruff to me when I wanted to order and just very rude in general... while the food was good, I just didn't feel comfortable sitting there alone, and maybe that's just because they looked like they were dealing with a few really large parties inside. I guess I would come back for the food because I do think it's close to 5-star quality food, I'm just really disappointed with the service. When we found this Asian restaurant in Berlin, we had been walking around for hours. Obviously, we were very hungry when we got here. I didn't bother too much with going over the meny (which was mainly fish, sushi and steak) - and went straight for the steak. I had the opportunity to visit the ladies room before my steak arrived and it was a fantastic experience. In fact, the entire restaurant gave off the same vibe - great food, clean place and fresh ingredients. When I walked passed the sushi preparation station, I instantly regretted not getting sushi. Dudu has a hip and open atmosphere. The restaurant is pretty well hidden behind leafy bushes but when you pass them and glace in, you are greeted by a huge out-door place with plenty of room to rest your legs. Great little Asian fusion place in Mitte. I ordered all sushi including a roll with "Dudu" in the name. It was fantastic. Great vibe. Wasn't too crowded when we arrived but got super crowded fast. Sat out on the communal tables on the patio and enjoyed my 1st meal in Berlin. Coming from California, though, where we have great sushi places it's hard to say this is better than those. I came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed. But we didn't wait long for a spot as they managed to squeeze us into a table with another group. This was a happening place though it seemed like a jumping-off platform for those going heading to clubs. There was a lot of base bouncing off the walls and it made conversation difficult. I was rather annoyed to be sitting next to a group of rather large and very boisterous American girls. Now I digress as I certainly can't fault the restaurant though I proper table of two would have been nice, or at least an inch or two of elbow space. It's been awhile since I've had some good sushi, but Dudu really hit the mark with taste, freshness and generous portions considering the hipster aura of it all. Our server was polite and pleasantly fast with our drinks, food and bill. I have to disagree whole heartily with the previous reviewer. I like the bench seating and the feel of the room. The food is not at all pricey and the bench seating leads to the casual vibe of the place. This is a Japanese restaurant not an Asian restaurant so come here for the sushi !! Very fresh creative and fun. If you come with a big group you can take a whole table and they'll whipe you up something special. I really like DUDU because they are trying something different. A very London or New York style experience and void of the tiresome standards of Berlin's dining scene. i.e. Fusion , snake lights , candles on tables , everything under 10EUR read more
