Small but amazing Japanese Korean restaurant in Pberg. I was blown away by avocado maki price - 2.30 only! Definitely my favorite spot so far. Omoni offers decent vegetarian/vegan options, like veg maki sets, tofu bowl, vego bibimbap, etc. Kimchi is not vegan, but it's expected. And I really want to share all the nice feedbacks from my non-vegan friends. They really like fish freshness and consider this place to be very authentic. Order the sashimi specials! Omoni was the first open restaurant I spotted near a dance I attended. I sat myself at the open L bar where I could watch the guy make sushi. After translating difficulties (asked for a specialty, got pointed to special tea), I ordered the kopenhagener con ikura. This was a roll with vegetables inside, salmon on top, topped with fish eggs. It was ok. The fish eggs didn't really add anything but texture. The rice was ok, but not firm enough for grasping with a chopstick. It was filling, but when is sushi not filling? Overall, it was ok. They also offer Korean food including noodle dishes. The one thing that comes to mind is the care they took with the decor. read more

Heck yeah! The three of us ordered a sushi platter for 2 and some additional rolls. Perfect! Good rice to meat ratio and great green tea. A friend of mine has been raving about this place for the longest time. So happy I finally tried it out. The sushi was melt in your mouth delicious and I had a fish and rice bowl which was super fresh and tasty. We didn't have a reservation so had a super early 5pm bite - apparently they are usually booked back to back. Once again , I would like to say that it's not special . A lot of families with their babies there and I found it's very loud ( babies cries loud ) and the service is just normal . Some of the best sushi I ever had... I especially recommend the seaweed salad and the sushi carpaccio! And the sushi plates for 2 (The Kopenhagener Sushi and the Mixed sushi plate are delicious). From the minimalistic decor - the light dusty blue walls, the modern meets vintage lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling - to the open sushi bar, to the "i want everything on there" menu, Omoni is my favourite Korean (bordering on Japanese) kitchen in Berlin. Ooooor, at least it shares the no. 1 spot with Yam Yam, but whereas I go to Yam Yam for a bibimbap craving, korean pancakes and dumplings, I go to Omono for the more sushi like options. I have a tendency to order the same things: the tuna tartar rolls ($4.80) are beyond tasty, and serve as the perfect entree. For a main it's all about #15 ($8.50): a rice bowl served up with both raw and cooked salmon, salmon skin and bio-salad - hearty, yet fresh at the same time. And oh yes, the seaweed salad is pretty amazing too. The place is popular, and is only open for dinner, so make sure to book if you are more than two people. After searching house no. 14 for a while, i ordered the fried salmon rice bowl due to all of the recommendations on yelp - amazing flavor, great quality salmon, fresh sald and rice that is not too dry (i like mine on the stickier side). I was not disappointed and the ginger honey tea was tasty, too. I thought it had a balanced flavor, even though i'd have liked it more ginger-ish. As a japanese, i thought it looked more like a japanese restaurant, because there were a lot of japanese styled options like natto rice bowl, etc. i LOVED the interior - simple yet special. A lot of thought was put in there (at least it seems like it was) The lamps in the back of the restaurant were my favorite touch (they were inspired by computer programming things) :b and the 'anpanman' book totally got me :D All in all, i'll definitely come back here and am super happy my sister showed me this place. read more

The interior is clean and simple but still interesting. Most of the cups and bowls were handmade stoneware which I really liked. Service was polite but I think they forgot about us at one point and we had to wait a long time. The menu is large and varied. I had a hard time choosing and will definitely be back to try more. I got a sushi mix plate and was very pleased with the freshness and flavor of the fish, the ripeness of the avocado, and the flavor texture of the rice. Everything was fresh and well made and nothing was drowning in heavy sauce. I also had a honey ginger tea which was a little strong on the honey and weak on the ginger but was still tasty. This will be my go to sushi place if I can just plan ahead enough to make a reservation. read more

Like many of the other reviewers on here, it was the service at Omoni that left us with a bad taste in our mouths. I'll start off by saying that the sushi itself was quite good. But when my friend, being considerate, asked the male server if the fish used was fresh or frozen because there was a pregnant woman in the group (who could only have sushi if it was frozen fish), he put on a most offended air, and proceeded to remind us that, 'We are a sushi bar'. Well, yes, hun, that's why we were there. He promptly stormed off and was never to be seen at our table again. Look, I get it, being an upscale sushi bar means you will only use fresh fish blah blah, but as service personnel, it is part of your job to answer your customers queries - kindly. (Incidentally, asking the same question IN JAPAN, you will receive a straightforward and compassionate response). When I took him aside to talk about it, he mistakenly assumed that I was making sure HE wasn't angry with us. And walked off again. Oh dear. I sincerely hope the management takes note of the high number of reviews (on yelp and trip advisor) focusing on the mediocre to bad service. I've been wanting to check this place because of the good reviews and because it's around the corner. The thing that struck me most was the rude service. I came in right when they opened at 5 PM on a Saturday without a reservation - and the server acted extremely annoyed, like I had the audacity to try to eat there without a reservation. She reluctantly gave me a spot at the bar (the place was practically empty) and told me I had to be out by 7 PM (how it would take me 2 hours to eat a few rolls of sushi, not sure). After this it took her awhile to take my order and for the food to be prepared. I'm used to patchy Berlin service but still... Sushi was alright but nothing special - had a few rolls and a nigiri. The tuna was on the fishy tasting side. The miso soup was bad - had zero dashi flavor and was oily. This all said, I would try it again to check the Korean dishes on the menu. But perhaps I would make a reservation in that case, just to see if the server might be friendlier! read more

I have tried 4 times there before , but it opens only night , so finally the 5th and 6th time luckily i tried the bibi bamp and sashimi , the chef is super nice , when he is making sushi , give me a feeling he is drawing and playing Qi Gong :P , the meaning of " Omoni" is grandma , it's a cosy place as well super warm. This is my favorite place to get sushi in Berlin! It is always fresh and delicious! The white wines they serve compliment the sushi very well. Very nice ambience, whether you have a table or sit at the sushi counter. But you should defiantly make a reservation, this is a very popular spot with locals! read more

They'd run out of the salmon rice on the day I went, so instead I opted for the unagi rice. A bit pricey, but because it's Berlin, still cheaper than the usual Japanese food prices you'd pay. The food is pretty good, given that they are Koreans preparing Japanese food, and prices are fair. But they don't accept anything but cash - and that's only written on a little red stamp on the second page of the menu, not at the door or anywhere else. I had a bill of more than 100 Euro. So they sent me to the next ATM and kept my friends as a security. I took me 15 minutes forth and back and it busted the whole evening. Why they don't accept debit cards? It's much easier to cheat the tax office. And they make their customers pay and walk for it. And they don't learn. I told them twice before that the popular Edamame beans are served with grainy sea salt in Japan. This time again there was no salt on them and the waitress brought the simple, finely granulated salt from the kitchen. Omoni? Never again! read more

best sushi-restaurant in town. this is a rather small place so that they are not able to offer a vast variety on fish (like ishin with it's big refrigerators) but the chef has a good hand picking the best ingredients and gives reliable recommendation on what's good for the day. if you're lucky, you'll get to try raw beef sushi. read more
