Visited Aiko on a Thursday evening after work with some coworkers. They have a nice outdoor seating area in the back of the restaurant that we used. The food is priced relatively normal for Berlin nothing crazy there. I ordered the fried chicken udon, a house made soda and takoyaki. The fried chicken on the udon was fabulous but the broth was missing some flavor it was relatively bland for my taste. I really enjoyed the house made soda. I'd never tried takoyaki before and though many of my friends enjoyed it, it was not something I'd order again. Not the restaurants fault, just my own personal taste. (3.5 stars) Came here for dinner and had a nice meal. I was surprised by the menu, which managed to be super long but also not the most enticing. Ended up going with the Japanese curry. Loved the crispy chicken and the veggies, curry was thick and had some flavor but became one note halfway through, really would've love some spices or vibrancy. It also doesn't have much color for a curry. I'd get again if I were to return, but would ask if it could be made spicier. read more

This restaurant continues to be top of mind when I am craving duck noodle soup with a nice weiss beer, especially on a rainy night.

I really enjoy this place since the atmosphere and foods are really decent, especially going here with larger parties or with friends. The food is delicious (though bit pricey for berlin standards) however the only downside is the super slow service. I guess there's an upside since you know they're making your food fresh, but sometimes it gets so packed that servers are overwhelmed. Overall it's one of the better Japanese restaurants I've found in Berlin that's a median price point with fresh and delicious food. I would highly recommend sharing appetizers and rolls so you can try out different dishes and small plates. (The fried squid, edamame, and yakitori are my faves) read more

Chose this restaurant the night of my arrival to Berlin. My husband and I saw it while scouting about for dinner. We were naively hoping for some German cuisine, that were pretty scarce to non existent in the area we were. At around 11pm (bowing our heads as we entered, so we wouldn't be tossed out on our bums), we humbly sought food and shelter from the night chill and groaning bellies. A waiter attended to us immediately, walking us triumphantly to an open table. Once seated with our gimmick laden, (though cute) novel/tablet like menus, I chose to order: deep fried dragon roll, crispy duck roll, edamame and cold sake. My husband chose a bowl of roast duck udon accompanied by a plate of fried squid for an appetizer. Sake made it to our table first, as I poured out our rounds, I noticed a couple black specs swimming in my sake cup. Alarmed, I went in for my inspection and concluded the foreign specimen as 'green tea flakes'...I mean, lets hope thats what it was. Im going to FIRMLY remain with that thought. Simply for that little discovery alone, I had to remove a star. Management should defiantly take care to inspect all service wear, because on a non super hungry occassion, I would have sent it all back. Aside from that little moment of terror, all our dishes were very good. My husband found his roast duck udon to be a bit too salty (he's Chinese and knows his ramen/udon). My sushi rolls were delicious, I wouldn't say phenomenal, but they were good. I figure if I were to ever find my nodmadness (That's a plug, I'm a tribe member) spirit back in Berlin, I'd venture here again. read more

We ate here twice. The first time was nice, we had a few rolls and some appetizers and it was a pleasant experience. The second time, a few days later, things were not so pleasant. We sat down outside and ordered about 50 euros worth of sushi and appetizers. The waitress asked what we would like to drink, and I asked for tap water for my children and wife. She said that they didn't have tap water only mineral water for sale. I said that was nonsense, as we had eaten there only a few days earlier and we had tap water then. She explained to me that she could only provide us with tap water if we ordered beer or wine. I said that I would order a beer, but didn't want it served immediately, but later, after the meal. She said that wasn't allowed, so we cancelled our order and left immediately. Food here is okay, but the service is very rude. Both times we were there, one of the waiters took his break next to our table and smoked a cigarette, and let the cigarette smoke blow directly into my children's faces. read more

Ordered the Sakura menu for 11 euro which was delicious and a big enough portion to get completely full. Been living in Tokyo for 5 years and can say the quality of the sushi at Aiko is great! The interior of the place is very nicely done, very cozy and not too stuffed or loud so its a good place to chat with friends over some food. read more

Visited on 29/01/2016 I'm a big fan of this place. I was already a big fan before the last important internal restyling occurred some months ago The combo "good sushi / modest price" find the maximum expression in this place. I'm happy to bring friends came to visit me in this restaurant, because it's a guarantee The staff is and it always been quick and smily. The place is dramatically full in the weekend. Yesterday (Friday) I called them trying to reserve one of the lovely tables in the short corridor. The guy could not promise me nothing, but when we arrived, despite the overcrowding the table was reserved for us. It's not that relevant, but Yelp is the right place to point something like this out The Maki in general are well assembled. Delicious the gekocht tunfish as well as the vegetarish inside-out. Gyoza are good although I'm not crazy for its side sauce Aiko got an important internal renovation recently. I've really appreciated the outcome because now everything is in a strong japanese fashion. Previously the internal area was like a unique environment, now they divided much of the space in pavilions giving to the place some intimate spots. I'm always skeptical of sushi places that have 50% off offers, but there is nothing to worry about here. What I liked most about Aiko was that the maki was straightforward and simple. Unlike so many other places in Berlin where they approach maki as an exercise in fusion cooking with off-the-wall additions like cream cheese, the maki at Aiko followed the simple and traditional rice, nori, fish/vegetable recipe. The way to go though is the Nigiri. While you may think you'll get more bang or the buck with the maki, the amount of fish in the rolls is on the skimpy side. Both the butterfish and the unagi nigiri were tasty and included a generous piece of fish. The service was good and the sushi made it to the table around 5min after ordering, but this was on a Sunday and there were only a few other couples in the restaurant. Although it looks like it's located in the madness around Rosenthaler Platz, it is actually 50m up the street on Brunnenstraße. This extra distance makes all the difference and results in a dining experience that is more relaxing and calm then what you'd expect first walking out of the U-Bahn station. read more

Girl waitress had the worst customer service I've ever encountered. Blatantly walking around our table whilst I had told her I was missing 2/3 of my order, avoiding eye contact and serving the other tables - constantly rearranging her two greasy strands of hair, half teriyaki, half entitled 20-something hormonal mess. You're not holding Victoria's secret, bring the miso to the table: I can write it out for you if you're slow. Me and my sister have been sitting for half an hour or less, and three waiters have already tried to take away our plates as we are still eating. Get a grip. read more

I went here with a bunch of friends, one of whom is a regular at the restaurant. We got a table outside, which was nice. Not many spots outside, but much sought after due to its tranquility. I am not a fan of Sushi, but thought this Sushi was okay. The fish was delicious. For myself I ordered something from the teppanyaki grill with butter fish. Served with rice and some fresh vegetables, this was a mouth-watering dish! Highly recommended. They also offer other meats, not just fish. Most of the Sushi is 50% off all the time. The staff is very helpful and attentive and even gave one of my friends a lesson in eating with chop sticks! Great selection of beers, teas, wines and cocktails. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised from AIKO. The have 50% of sushi until 11pm, which means that you pay around €1,70 for a maki roll ( 6 pieces), making this definitely one of the cheapest sushi places! The rest of the food had Mitte prices and is not super cheap, but the appetizers are all also decently prices, must under €5. What I liked the most and why I will definitely be coming back is the fact that they have amazing fried sushi (with the inside of your choice of maki) for €3,50! I love fried food and sushi, so I will definitely be back! The restaurant I thought was big, with a little outside area, and the inside was cosy. It does get really crowded, so if you wanna come during rush hour, I would reserve a table. read more

They have cosy Japanese interior inside. Super cool! Pleanty of seats available. During summer, they also have plenty of seat outside. I tried their daily menu and it tasted good. Even though they are specialized in grilled food, which you can tell the quality from the meat (it's very delicious and tender), their sushi is also fresh and tasty. read more

They did not arrange the table, they threw the menus on the table, it took 20 minutes to order, they forgot to bring a meal, they tried to charge us for it and they had the nerve to ask other employees if we got it or not in front of us like we will run from 7 eur of a 60 eur bill. Happy we went there today. Awesome Japanes village themed kinda cozy interior. They got the best wakame I've had in Berlin. Got the rainbow roll and the dragon roll. Dragon roll was good, the rainbow roll was average. The way they served the food is nice and the service was fast (even though it was really packed). Wish they had a little higher quality fish, though! Plus the sushi was falling apart (guess since it was that busy the chefs didn't take that much time to roll.) The cozy interior and the wakame really got me though. Will be back. read more

Wir haben das Premium-Menue zu zweit genossen Suppe, Sushi und Spezialitäten vom Grill mit süßem Abschluss am Ende (Reiskuchen). Mit der Sushi-Platte haben wir am Anfang gedacht, es wäre zu wenig aber die Grill Platte hat alles übertroffen. Sehr lecker der Fisch (Lachs und Garnelen auf der Grillplatte) mit Salat und Gemüse. Eine super gute Kombination. Bier hat dazu köstlich geschmeckt. Ich vergebe nur 4 Sterne da die Heizung in Laden war total aufgedreht (was ein bisschen unangenehm war) und das Leder unser Sitzbank war gebrochen und mit Packband zusammen geklebt das sieht nicht schön aus Aber insgesamt sehr gute Atmosphäre, gehe gerne mal wieder hin! read more

It was one of the worst restaurant experiences ever, the food itself is good and our sushi was fresh annd tasty but the service!!! we went there in the very late afternoon in hope to avoid evening crowds, on sunday, restaurant was not empty but also not too busy, we should have been alerted alraedy while placing order, Menus we got fast and we were greeted nicley but that was the end of "nice" ... we patiently waited about 15min, nobody to take our order! I had to literally grab the passing by fast and furious waitress to actually be attended. Menu for two with Miso soup and some extra salad, beer to drink, nothing fancy! 5...10..15 min nothing happens, no drinks..no soup not even anyway cold salad...I tried to ask, all different waiters, they all said let me check and wooosh they were gone! It's a long story, I know, I was really hungry and after 40min I again grabbed the fast and furious and asked when I get to finally eat or drink?! I said we waiting here nearly an hour and the answer was not..I'm terribly sorry I will check right away nooooo the answer from the manager was we have a lot of takeaways and we busy!!!!! Gosh!!!! is there something worse then being ignored in a restaurant while terribly hungry, seeing other people eating around at the same time?! Early on a Friday night here service was slow and a little off. Green tea was weak. The udon's were filling and a little different with fish balls and fried egg. The maki rolls were ok, but cheap -50% before 11pm. The food was passable, But I will probably try elsewhere next time - too slow. read more
