And you can even make it to the Bülowstraße/Yorckstraße area in practically no time at all. The lunch menu at Munch's Hus is what you need right now. And tomorrow. And the day after that. (Variety is the spice of life and Norwegian cuisine in this part of town: the daily specials change every day and don't repeat week after week.) There are three types of dishes to choose from: meat, fish, or vegetarian. I've always been happy with their fish dish of the day--it's a Scandinavian restaurant after all. For under €7, you can enjoy a decently sized piece of fish cooked to tender perfection, along with some vegetables on the side and a bread basket. It's a balanced meal that you'll find little to complain about.

The walk from the Yourkstraße station was't too bad, and from downtown that's only 2-3 stops and a quick ride. Your best be is to make a reservation; we didn't and they only had two non-reserved tables; luckily we got there early and snagged one, but if we'd gotten there a little later we might not have. Munch's is on the higher end of casual; I felt okay in jeans and a Henley shirt, but the service and atmosphere is a little higher class. Service was friendly, and pretty typical pace for Germany. Menus were only in German though, so if you don't read it, make sure you have Google Translate handy! My wife's salmon and potatoes was excellent; perfectly cooked and with a good salmon taste (but not an overly fishy taste). I went with the moose, which I've not had in years. The portion size of the moose meat was a touch small, but the quality was high (not too gamey and not over cooked) and the potatoes, chestnuts, and lingonberries together tasted great and filled me up. Overall a good meal, and one we'd happily repeat.

(Carbs, carbs, meat, with a side of vegetables? Count me in--as long as you hold the tomatoes and throw in some extra grease for good measure.) So when it comes to fish and chips, I expect something equally as unhealthy and delicious. Dare I say even more unhealthy and delicious, as everything in this quintessentially British meal is meant to be fried. So maybe I was just barking up the wrong tree because I should've just hopped on a cheap Easyjet from Schönefeld instead of ordering a chippy in this corner of Prenzlauer Berg. After reading the other Yelp reviews, I realize that the most confusing thing about Der Fischladen for a first-time diner is that the side shop with the fish counter--the most intuitive place to enter--is devoid of atmosphere. And the other confusing thing? The meal itself. The fish in question was devoid of flavor because I couldn't taste the batter, though it was certainly tender. (A tad too tender, if you ask me though, as I questioned whether it was a little undercooked.) The chips seemed like frozen fries from a local supermarket and the ketchup tasted too much like curry ketchup for my liking, though I saw a later diner request what must've been normal ketchup from the server. Maybe we should just let British pubs do what they do best instead. And to be fair, it seems like Der Fischladen's specialities are actually the fish market on the side and all of the other fish dishes so the verdict is still out when it comes to the healthier seafood options.

What we ordered: Esporao white wine, dry Tapas fried anchovies boquerones Mokfish Cataplana The atmosphere of the place is definitely laid back and chill. You should budget st least 2+ hours for a dinner there. You don't want to rush and it is not a place you would like to do that either. The staff is very patient and friendly. We had the dish and wine as a recommendation and they left us the time to discuss the options. We got complimentary baguette style bread with aioli which was absolutely amazing, we had to slow down in order to not overeat. The wine was on spot and we had it almost all done by the time the main arrived. Unfortunately that took a little longer but like I said this is laid back and not for the rushed type. The anchovies were absolutely great. They were spot on, crispy without being dry and served with just a lemon to squeeze over everything. The main was a little disappointing. While all was good, it just was not great. We essentially got soup which we didn't expect. The fish however was great quality and so were all the other ingredients. I think our expectations and what we got just didn't align in this one. The price was okay, maybe a little high. We had a 35 EUR wine and paid a little over 75 EUR. So, it was okay, but since we shared on main, I feel this was on the higher end. All in all, I would say bring time and stick to the Tapas and you and your company are in for a great dinner experience! For us, we miscalculated our time and had to rush out after the main to make it to the classic concert we had bought tickets for the previous day. So, we just couldn't lavish in the atmosphere and take time with everything. Also, I planned on proposing to my girlfriend/dinnerpartner that night so I was kind of antsy I would say. But that's not the restaurant's fault. Also, she said yes!!!
