I travel 40+ weeks a year. We decided to make a weekend out of a business trip and basically this was the only place open late in January. It's nearly perfect. Great view, nice room and arguably the nicest, most accommodating, knowledgeable staff from top to bottom I have EVER encountered. Close to town and close to the stupendous Acadia. We had a very nice meal in the Bistro and enjoyed the Happy Hour and the Open Mic but the best was the made to order omelette and blueberry waffles that Chef John provided. Great place. Highest recommendation. When you stay for 2 nights and know each of the staff's names I think that says it all. John, Norm, Kelly, Chris, Aaron, Marco, Brian, Annie, Sophie and Rachel from Philly. In an attempt to be as fair as possible, here is a disclaimer: Most of this review applies to the main building of the hotel. There are multiple buildings, and this is for the building underneath which is the reception and the dining room. So, for five stars: 1. Location - star 2. View - star 3. Cleanliness - no star 4. Breakfast/food - no star 5. Comfort and commodities - no star 1. The location is great. Close to ME-3 to get wherever you need on Mount Desert Island, but take a corner around the street and you're minutes away from beautiful Bar Harbor - that is, the end with all the parking. A short walk gets you there, and buses stop at the hotel regularly. 2. The view is beautiful. You see ocean, you see distant islands, boats, docks, and you get a faint ocean scent. 3. The beds smelled funny, and the floor wasn't exactly clean. I was also convinced that there were fleas or bed bugs of some sort as all three of us guests woke day after day itching like crazy, and we were very careful of sealing the windows to stop the mosquitoes from coming in. The porch was covered in cobwebs. 4. Not your typical "included continental breakfast". Continental breakfast, by definition, includes some sort of sliced cheeses and meats. Usually, they include eggs, whether boiled, or scrambled/fried. This hotel is incredibly misleading. The only items offered for free were oatmeal, toast, bagels, and muffins, as well as coffee, milk, yogurt, juice, and fruit. There was no protein anywhere to be found! No slices of cheese, no meat, no sausages, no EGGS of any sort. The catch is: there's a menu on every breakfast table. The eggs and sausages were all there. You had to pay. There was no mention anywhere, not during the reservation process, not during check-in, that part of the breakfast was NOT free. Everyone just smiled and said "continental breakfast is included!". Wow. And what's more is that the food that you CAN order is just awful. The fried potatoes are mushy and awful, the pancakes don't look like pancakes, and everything just looks like a greasy mess. I'm not super picky on food, either, especially not breakfast. Wow. I'm not an egg fanatic or anything, but I was angry at how the hotel tried to mislead me by having to pay for food that I was assuming would be there waiting for me the next morning. 5. The beds were pretty stiff and were not comfortable. We could not for the life of us find enough power outlets! There weren't enough for a digital camera per person. This is three people staying in a four-person room! The porch had two crappy little plastic seats, and a flimsy little plastic divider that failed to provide any sort of privacy at all from the balcony next door. So many times did I walk onto that balcony only to have my guts scared out by the person next door. There was a small outdoor pool which was nice, but it was located in a bit of an awkward spot, right smack dab in front of the old hotel building. The only view one had from the pool was of the highway. The indoor pool was pretty nice, though, but that alone isn't enough to win this place a star for commodities and comfort. This place is just okay. If you're not going to be spending much time here and just need a place to sleep, then you'll be happy. But you'd probably be better off, that way, finding a bed and breakfast in Bar Harbor where you may find a room for cheaper. read more

Amazing view of the ocean. We woke up to the hues of a sunrise every morning and had access to a little beach. This made up for a lot of the other things I found issue with. The breakfast was so-so--fairly basic, nothing fancy. The rooms aren't super-clean, there were stains on the seats and some sheets, and the floors could have been cleaner. read more

Great hotel to stay at if visiting Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. Check in was easy and fast. Our room was in the Atlantic view building which seemed newer and had a gorgeous view of the ocean from the balcony. Room was large, clean and the bath amenities were great. Beds were decently comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was more than the usual bread, cereal, yogurts, etc. they had spinach frittata one of the days and orange crepes on the second day. The outdoor pool/hot tub were closed for the winter season but we used the indoor ones that are in the main building. It was only about 5 min drive from the downtown area. It might be the only hotel open all year round in Bar Harbor especially in the winter months. read more

I stayed at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel in March for my biannual quilt retreat. The staff are very efficient and friendly. The room was very nice-plenty of room for three of us. The rooms are clean and the staff friendly. The breakfast is a large plentiful buffet with all kinds of hot and cold items, fresh fruit, coffee juice yogurt and a bit different day to day. The dining area is continually being cleared and dirty things taken quickly. Opens at 6 which is nice for hikers like us. Room always clean when we come back after lunch. The 2 pools are clean. The husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. It is very close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. We stayed in the building with the office. We had a balcony and an ocean view. This building was a little bit older and the wear shows but everthing was clean. The room was very large. It had a nice sized bathroom and a balcony. Free continental breakfast was included with the room. They had potatoes, eggs, cereal, pastries and oatmeal. For a free breakfast I found it sufficient. read more

Stayed here during my first ever visit to Maine for my cousin's wedding. He was married here in a ceremony on the lawn in front of the harbor. The view was incredible, but then again, where aren't they in this neck of the woods!? We stayed in the "modern" building on the first floor and our room opened up to a small patio that overlooked the water. The rooms in this building were very similar to what you'd find in a typical chain hotel. The accommodations were nice and although we did not take advantage, there was a hot tub and small pool next to the entrance. There were two other buildings on the grounds that you could stay in that were slightly higher in price and much more "retro." They were older style rooms with an eclectic assortment of furniture, floral wallpapers and old-timey maritime decor. The room my Aunt stayed in reminded me of a "Bed & Breakfast." Continental breakfast was served every morning. Your typical offerings: waffles, bagels, cereal, fruit etc. and I did notice some gluten-free offerings, if that's how you roll. They also have an indoor pool and hot tub in the older building that houses the "Office" where you check-in. I have no complaints about my visit, but I also don't have any compliments to give either. I am SHOCKED this place currently only has 3.5 stars. My husband and I went on a road trip of New England. We stayed in 12 hotels and this was BY FAR the most amazing one! Our view of the harbor from our balcony was beyond amazing! For the only time on our trip, I was awake for the sunrise and it was GORGEOUS! This place is literally the only one on our trip that we are already planning on revisiting. They have a pretty good breakfast selection as well. Additionally, my husband says the shower was AMAZING! It also added to the ambiance of the amazing hotel that the rare super blood moon was that night. The other guests, some seniors from Iowa, were out front watching with us and we had such a blast. Aside from that, I've never seen such a GORGEOUS night sky, not just because of the moon. The stars truly twinkled and seeing them over the harbor was absolutely magical! I cannot wait to go back to Atlantic Oceanside Hotel & Event Center. Already telling all my friends about it! read more

August of last year, we booked this hotel for 4 days, and well in advance, so I was expecting to arrive to a clean room. We arrived pretty late at night. The room smelled a bit funny, but that's probably due to humidity. Everything looked clean and tidy but we were fooled. Walked in closer, carpet was still dirty, someone didn't vacuum. After a long drive, all we wanted to do was to shower and sleep. Bathroom was clean. I opened the refrigerator and I found a half eaten apple from who knows how long ago. GROSS. I lifted the blanket, ready to plop into bed, when I saw...what in the world is that?! Bugs?! No, wait not bugs, but CRUMBS!!!!!! Crumbs on the bedsheets under the neatly folded blanket. REALLY? House keeping surely did NOT clean up or bother to change the sheets from the previous guests. Before I got a chance to inform my friends, one immediately jumped into the other bed and put her face on the pillow. She jumped right back up and had the most disgusted look on her face, "IT SMELLS LIKE HUMAN, SOMEONE'S SCALP." Housekeeping did not bother to change either of the sheets or pillowcases on both beds. Fantastic. Great impression. So we had to ring up the front desk and ask for new sheets and blankets. That took ONLY about 40 minutes. I was just appalled by how disgusting our room was. Breakfast downstairs is certainly not free, we were misinformed. Sweet old lady running the breakfast room. I believe it was $10 per person, cash only. Buffet style. We only ate here once. Food was acceptable. We liked their fruit and yogurt parfaits. Not much cell phone service around the area so those of you glued to your phone, you're better off leaving it off. Not too far from Cottage street, where all the shops, restaurants, and activites are located. Walkable. read more

I'd originally made a reservation for one night on a Friday night. On Thu night, I looked up the weather forecast and found it to be wet on Fri but sunny on Sunday. I decided to take a chance and called pretty late on Thu night to ask if they could move the reservation over to Sat night. They were very obliging, changed our reservation without any hassle within a minute!! We had the OceanView suite with a kitchen and were 5 people in total. The suite had 2 double beds, but they threw in a cot with no extra charge and even gave us a AAA discount on arrival. They view of the ocean from our balcony was really nice, and the rooms were too. An added bonus was the 2 full bathrooms in the suite. I'd say the only downside was no free breakfast, but since I can't give 4.5 stars, I'm giving Atlantic Oakes the benefit of 5 stars! Nice place. Comfy bed, good views, ok breakfast, great staff. It's in bar harbor, so expect weekend crowds, no space and less flexibility on the weekend. (But I checked in after the weekenders left and the staff was thoughtful, accommodating, and very helpful, which really made my stay incredibly relaxing.) I was moved to a room with a better view, given good recommendations for late dinner and seeing Acadia. The only things I can criticize are the continental breakfast is chaos, and the indoor pool is small and stuffy. So, get coffee and a banana to go, and stick to the outdoor pool and you will be very happy. read more

Thinking back on the unpleasant experience I had at this place, I've taken a moment to reflect. Everything I wrote in my initial review was in fact my experience/story. I asked myself what customers this establishment are marketing to. If I were younger or had a family and my goal was to take them to the Acadia National Forest and to provide a somewhat cheap place to lay our heads at night, this would probably be the ideal place. However, I am a bit older and was looking for a different type of experience which did not happen. So if you are taking the kids to the national park and/or are here for the recreational advantages outside the hotel, this is your place. read more

OH MY GOD. I am still staying here (for work) and I am absolutely in love with this hotel. I travel often for work, but I am blown away with this hotel and the staff. The rooms are clean, gorgeous, and come equipped with a big balcony and an even better view. I attached a couple of pictures I took from this morning from my balcony. The breakfast is above and beyond your expectations. Egg ham and cheese croissants, countless danishes, so many different bagels, cereals, eggs, potatoes, and any beverage your little heart can desire. And the complimentary cookies tonight are baked with pure heaven; seriously, I think it's caramel and macadamia nuts? Whatever it is, God truly made them! I also just got back from dinner with an very professional yet hilarious waiter, and ate the most amazing Maine Lobster (picture also included, and yes, you're welcome). If you have any questions on what hotel you should stay in on your visit to Bar Harbor, put them all aside and book this hotel today. It is amazing and you will absolutely love it. read more

No handicap parking by rooms. A truck was parked taking up three spots so we had no where to park. We had to park up a hill and walk down. When I called and spoke with the night security guard at 1200 am September 2 I was told he had more important things to do. I was lectured on how I could park elsewhere, despite having called two hours earlier. Nice attitude for a staff member. read more

Beautiful view from the room! Great location! Friendly staff! Very clean! That being said ... Loud at night. We were on the ground floor and could hear walking all night long upstairs. Also a lot of light in the room at night. They have a light right outside the glass door and it lit up the whole room all night! Had to wear a sleep mask to block out the light. Breakfast was ok ... they have a lot of room for improvement there. Overall I would recommend for a quick visit to Acadia but will try to find something different for our next visit. Stayed here when I was visiting Acadia this fall and was definitely a fan. The locaton could not have been better, not walkable to the main town area but literally a 2 minute drive to there or Acadia. We stayed in the newer building, I forget what it's called now, probably the Ocean View, and it was all new everything, very nicely done. The rest of the hotel buildings looked pretty dated to be honest though from what I could see from the outside. The free breakfast was decent, not amazing but it's free so how can you really complain? Oatmeal, fruits, bagels, croissants, cereal etc. Pretty standard but decent overall. The staff was friendly, no issues there either and the rates were reasonable. read more

Nice views from the room as others have mentioned, since my room was literally only a few feet from the water. Close access to Acadia, which is a zoo of people. Only issue was with breakfast---each morning there were only 2 hot dishes. I do not count French Toast as an egg dish. Be nice to your guests and add a daily egg dish. The dinner venue holds an inadequate number of people considering how many guests they have, so expect to wait to be seated during the peak evening time . The alternative is to drive into town and wait somewhere else to be seated. Once seated, the food was good and service excellent. read more

This is a good mid-range price hotel for your stay in Bar Harbor. The room was clean and for the most part, tastefully decorated. The beds were clean and comfortable and we both slept well. Breakfast is included with the room and is fairly decent. It was great to wake up in the morning and have fresh fruit and muffins baked in house. The location of this hotel was great as well- a couple of minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and about 10-15 minutes from Acadia National Park. In our building, most if not all rooms had an oceanside view and a private deck, which was absolutely fantastic and perfect for watching the sunrise off the ocean. read more

Wonderful location and views that cannot be beat! We stayed in the main building and our room was comfortable, clean and spacious. The staff was very friendly. Both the indoor and outdoor pools were nice. Indoor hot tub wasn't working though. That was a bit of a bummer. The breakfast in the morning was pretty good considering it was free. I was impressed. There was also an Island shuttle stop which made getting around way easier as parking can be hard to do in the main town area. Would stay here again. read more

Normally I would stay right in town Bar Harbor. This hotel is about 1.5 miles from town. Since it's winter, hotel options are limited. We wanted a room overlooking the ocean and an indoor pool and hot tub. This fit the bill. My 10 year old son and I stayed one night in the main building. It was below 0 outside so it was nice to have the convenience of dinner, pool, breakfast and front desk all in the same building. The pool was great as it was not crowded, it was a salt water pool and was super warm so really enjoyable. The hot tub was not very warm, would have been nice to have a really hot hot tub. Our room had a really nice view and a balcony. The room was older but clean and spacious. The bathroom had been upgraded. Beds and pillows were comfortable. $135 for the night in winter so great value. Breakfast was included and was what you'd expect from a continental breakfast. The older gentleman overseeing the breakfast could not have been sweeter and made breakfast really pleasant. The spinach and egg frittata was pretty good as was the sausage. Breakfast area was clean. Lobby of hotel was pleasant with little nooks to sit in. All in all I'd recommend. read more

The views were beautiful, and if it weren't for the great weather the stay wouldn't have been as good. The staff and the locals of Bar Harbor are some of the rudest and least hospitable people I've ever encountered. It is as if they don't like or care for tourist dollars. Great views of the ocean. Rooms are outdated, have a musty smell, and the furniture isn't the most comfortable. Not located in town, but a easy walk or bike ride. However, the hotel is closer to Arcadia Park than the hotels in town are. We had a car which is recommended unless you will be biking everywhere. read more

we stayed here for a night off-season, and it was great. We had a nice view of the water when we woke up in the morning, the buffet was very respectable with some homemade goodies, and it was quiet. The comforters and pillows were all high quality, not the thin cheap variety. Plenty of parking...so overall, we really enjoyed this place. read more

Being generous with 2 stars for the gorgeous view of the water. The smell in the room was bad. We were offered a new room after we had settled in but thought it would be ok with a candle. By midnight it smelled like a really bad sewage problem. The room had 2 beds and a sofa bed, all accessible from only one side. A very unpleasant experience! Avoid this place! read more

Me and my wife stayed here for a few days last weeks we were in the new part of the hotel stayed on the forth floor with a bay view. Hotel was very clean and up to date inside and outside. There is a continental breakfast downstairs in main hotel. We had to ask about the free bus ride to town but it is only a mile or so away from downtown and the bus stops running early in the night. But we would stay here again if we are ever back in Bar Harbor. read more

We moved to the Atlantic Oceanview after a couple nights stay in a BH hotel which was VERY nice, but not what we were looking for. Atlantic Oceanview is also very nice---not so trendy, perhaps---but it was the perfect fit for us. When we checked in, DH explained that we were moving from another establishment and why and the lovely lady at the desk said she was going to give us a room with the best view---and I do believe she did! We had an absolutely unhindered view of the bay just outside our balcony. (We wrote down the room number, for sure!) The room was very clean, the beds comfy, and it was overall a very really pleasant three nights. We were two minutes out of town, but felt like much further when it came to peace and quiet. The breakfast was generous and there was not a single staff member who was not pleasant, professional, and just plain nice. DH loved the pool and spa! We have always stayed in cottages before, but it will be a hard decision next time, we enjoyed our stay at the Atlantic Oceanview so much. Frankly, I don't know if the guy from Mass and we stayed at the same place. DH says the pool was definitely inside--not out. And our sheets smelled of detergent---I remember noticing it. Breakfast was generous, with all sorts of rolls and breads and pastries, a waffle maker, oatmeal, cereals, boiled eggs... So I just checked, and our receipt definitely says Atlantic Oceanview. Maybe people from Ohio get the better treatment, lol! read more

We stayed in this hotel for five nights. It was clean and well cared for. It came with a very nice breakfast buffet daily with options including oatmeal, two hot dishes, fresh fruit salad,cereal, bread/toast, and gluten-free items. The wait staff was pleasant as were the hotel employees in general. We even had a small balcony in the room with a view. Proximity to the harbor was great, about a mile. Biggest complaint was that our thermostat did not have a cover so we had to guess what temperature it was set at. read more
