A great place to stay right in Bar Harbor. Your typical motel, nothing special. Clean, and just what we needed for our Bar Harbor/Acadia adventure. The staff was extremely nice and we enjoyed the coffee and muffins in the morning as we made our way into the park. There's JUST enough parking here for the number of rooms they have. If you don't get back until late, you might be parking on the grass. One thing to note: Trip Advisor says that they have 24-hour check-in, which I'm not sure is true. We didn't arrive until almost midnight when we drove from Boston and I believe the office was about to close up when we arrived. read more

This hotel has hardest beds I've ever slept on. I woke up in serious pain several times a night. my bed had a big brown stain on the sheets on it upon arrival. if you like sleeping on dirty beds that feel like sleeping on a hardwood floor with nothing but a comforter for padding by all means stay here. the only plus was the location to downtown. read more

Clean room in a super convenient location! Only a 5 minute walk to the bustling downtown area. Everything (except 2 big stains in the carpet) was really clean and in good condition. The AC worked super well and was perfect after long days hiking and biking in the heat. There's a little sitting area on the lawn outside and pretty good WiFi if you need to get work done, but since there's no desk in the room, might be best to head into a cafe downtown. read more

Quiet, comfortable, and quaint. Reminded us of the motels we stayed in long ago when we were young. There is a physical key to the room, not a generic credit card. Coffee is located in the main office, not your room, but walking the short distance to the office in the morning and warmly greeted by the staff is a bonus. Booked a stay at The Anchorage for three nights in July to be close to Acadia National Park. All the B & B's were fully booked and didn't have many other places left to choose from. Check-in was very easy and Monica at the front desk was super pleasant and helpful. Our room was what I expected, and very clean with pleasantly comfortable beds! The only negative aspect was a sticky linoleum bathroom floor. Not sure if it's the cleanser they use or just that it's old linoleum. Has a mini frig in room, would be nice if they add a small coffee pot too. We were up and out early, only one place in town opened at5am for a coffee or tea. They have in Ice machine which was great to keep our cooler stocked and cold for drinks and snacks to take to Acadia. Price was reasonable as well read more

This place was great. Keep in mind, it is a motel. For being a motel, it was better than I expected. We saw older and newer photos of the hotel online. All the rooms are the newer decor. There's fresh paint, bedding, and decor. All the linens were very clean. The bathroom was very clean too, no mold or corrosion on the handles (I always get grossed out by that). It was nice to have a fridge in the room as well as a rack with hangers. I wish there were more outlets, but we made do. The coffee in the lobby was very good. The window in the bathroom was broken and had tape on it, but that was my only issue. read more

Wonderful Kindness!! Myself and 2 kids were there in mid-July. As all the other reviews we also found that the room was perfectly clean. A/C works wonderfully. The location of the hotel could not be better. Right smack-dab in Bar Harbor. Motel has free parking, so you never need to move your car when you go wander around the town. Grocery store is right around the corner. They also have this grassy area with picnic tables where you could have an easy lunch/dinner. I am writing this review to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT OF PRAISE to the staff member: Nattale. She is so friendly and goes above and beyond the call of duty. Her kindness was greatly appreciated. In truth when I was researching places to stay in Bar Harbor, I came across another recent review about how she helped another guest having some issues. I thought if a motel/hotel staff member made that much of a positive impact to the travelers then this is the place for my family to stay. And I was right. This stay was amazing! The staff at the front desk were very friendly. I didn't check in until 11:30pm and was the last check in of the day, which I'm sure was an inconvenience, but Eric at the front desk still greeted us with a smile and was very understanding and friendly. The room was impeccable when it came to cleanliness. It was also very updated with an LG smart tv. Good coffee was available all day and night in the front lobby. The room had a mini fridge, no microwave, but one was available in the lobby to use at anytime. Very good location. Walkable to nearby shops and only a five minute drive to Acadia National Park. The only minor inconvenience was the television would often disconnect from the internet, but this is typical for the area because of the spotty service all over. I would not even look for another place when I come back because from now on it will be here. I definitely recommend this place. They were even kind enough to offer to let us leave our car in the lot after check out because I mentioned our plan was to walk around town, to avoid the struggle of having to search for parking. Most of Bar Harbor lodging prices are too high but this place offers a modest price that fits both your budget and necessary needs. Parking really is a problem in Bar Harbor. In the busy season it is hard to find places and there are long wait times to eat. This place is perfect to avoid those problems. It is a short walk to most places and you can call ahead for seating. Maid staff for the rooms is excellent! They go out of their way to help you out with any request. They are also a good source for local recommendations. Planning on going to see the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain? This is an awesome location to get out in the morning. My friends and I booked a room at the Anchorage Motel for 3 nights for a short vacation to Acadia National Park. We were greeted by Danette when we checked in and she promptly gave us a great hiking recommendation to start our trip off on the right foot! The room was impeccably clean and exactly what we needed for our trip- a comfy place to sleep (seriously! The beds are so comfy), a refrigerator for food, and a place to take a hot shower after a long day of hiking. All of the staff were very friendly (special shout out to Danette and Susie!) and were very knowledgeable about the area and things to do. Not to mention the location is perfect- 7 minute drive to sand beach, 12 minute drive to Cadillac mountain, and a short walk from the main street downtown. When I first checked in, I was unimpressed. I was given a real key (we couldn't remember the last time we'd gotten one!) and only one per room! How could this no-frills motel charge so much per night? But today when I found that my room had not been made up after we had been gone all day, I was furious! For $359/ per night I don't get my room made up? When I called reception to ask why, I was told I had to request it! I have to REQUEST CLEAN TOWELS? Request having my bed made? And, if I was supposed to request it, why wasn't I told I had to request it? Why wasn't I asked when I checked in "would you like an amenity that's provided at even the worst places"? We had paid extra and upgraded to the "superior" room which had granite in the bathroom and I don't know, maybe, better furniture than the non-superior rooms? There was nothing 'superior' about this room. What do the non-superior rooms look like? There was a fridge and microwave, always a welcome feature. But free WiFi?!! It was unusable! It didn't work well for the receptionist who tried to check us in at 3 pm, I was unable to load social media at 3 am, or send a trio of pix to one recipient at 5pm! I had to use my cell service the entire weekend! The ONLY thing I liked about this place was the location! It was convenient to walk to everything in downtown Bar Harbor. How about this for $359/night? We were only given two *threadbare* towels, barely absorbent enough to dry ourselves after showering! The ones we were brought the day it wasn't made up were so thin, one ripped as my husband tried to dry himself. Actually see-through! There was no phone in the room. Ok, another relic from the past, I understand, but no ice bucket? No iron. No ironing board. No HANGARS on the clothing rack hanging on the wall! (Were we to bring our own?!) No clock. No mirror except for over sink. No coffee pot. I guess for that rate all you get is the location? Just as bare bones and basic as can be AND NO CLEAN TOWELS WITHOUT REQUESTING THEM!!! After 3 weeks on the road, I rode my motorcycle into Bar Harbor wrapped in a thick, gloomy, chilly fog. I was exhausted, cold and seriously questioning WHY I was there. When I checked into my motel, the manager, Constance, asked how long I was staying, I gloomily replied "1 day! I'm leaving tomorrow." I felt like I couldn't leave fast enough to make a bee line for the toasty heat of my home state of Texas! However, the ray of sunshine that is Constance, cheerily announced that the sun was coming out on Saturday and I MUST stay to enjoy the glory of coastal Maine. Being from Bar Harbor herself and an avid hiker, Constance lured me with the inside scoop on the best hiking trails, best-kept-secret sunrise spot, and lobster recomms. She even loaned me a trails book and her own windbreaker! Both she and Liv were wonderful and so very welcoming, I felt like an instant friend. They made sure I was located on the first floor to be near my bike, too. So I stayed longer and enjoyed every single moment - making my long-held dream of hiking coastal Maine a surreal reality. I so appreciate both the welcome and comfort of my stay at Anchorage Motel. My (newly updated) room was bright and airy, spotlessly clean, and the bed was oh-so-comfy - especially after a full day of hiking in Acadia NP. When I go back to Bar Harbor, I'll definitely stay at Anchorage, and feel like I'm welcomed as a friend. read more

Really bad place. Either it is heat or cold or fan you can turn on. No thermostats. All night someone jumped on the upper floor. We tried calling and phone didn't work. When I mentioned this to front desk she said the phone is for "show". Mattress is really old. Bathroom is a little updated but overall very hard to stay and impossible to get some sleep. We stayed here at the end of June. Our group was a college culinary trip of 14 people. We had a total of 7 rooms. The rooms were all very clean and comfortable. The mattresses were medium firm but soft enough (for someone who loves/prefers soft mattresses). The bathroom was clean and bathtub was spacious. Permanent hair dryer was in the bathroom. Regular hotel sized refrigerator. The motel is a few minutes walk down to several shops and restaurants. Nice area, very friendly people. Receptionist/clerk was very, very nice! No problems at all. Given that this is a 1-2 star hotel (depending on where you look), I would say it's about as good as you're going to get for this grade/standard of hotel/motel. What we got: A clean room with comfortable bed and newer towels. Free Wifi Free parking A newer flat screen TV (albeit showing only 2 local channels LOL) Heating/AC Hair dryer in the bathroom Pet friendly room (our 2 pooches could travel with us for $15 per pooch) A room that is walkable to everywhere downtown Bar Harbor and to Hannaford (supermarket). What we didn't get: Quilts on the bed (they still have older bedspreads) Coffee/Tea in the room (they have it at reception in the AM) New furniture/fixtures Microwave/Fridge (can be rented separately) Lots of cable channels (we weren't in the room for that long and didn't go there to watch tele!) We booked anchorage motel and it was the greatest experience that I'm sure we wouldn't have had at the other place. Constance, Karen, and everyone working at the Anchorage motel were SO kind and helpful. They gave great recommendations on where to go in town, and made us feel like friends vs guests. The room was very clean, we were given bottled water (a small but meaningful touch!) and the beds were surprisingly comfy. Don't let the "motel" name fool you. I made a reservation a week ago. As I walked in with my child, i asked the receptionist for a bathroom, i told the receptionist my son had a stomach ache I needed to go to the bathroom immediately. The receptionist couldn't care less and told me I had to check in first and complete some paperwork THAN my son could use the bathroom. I am never coming here again nor I recommended. I am sick and tired to 'pay for others to insult me'... The night was horrible: there is no insulation and I could hear the people upstairs walking on top of my head, it felt like the ceiling was going to fall. The bed covers are so old and with stains.
