DO NOT GO HERE! We probably should of picked a different place to begin with because we tried to make a reservation online since we were 7 people, but it didn't work. We called the restaurant many times and they didn't pick up the phone. But, it's a short walk from our office so we decided to go anyhow. Came with my coworkers to send one of us off to their new job, big mistake. We only have an hour lunch so we checked the menu online to see what we'd like to eat. The menu at the restaurant was completely different, it didn't even have what any of us wanted to order. Half of us settled for shrimp tacos, the other half chicken quesadillas, along with some sides. The shrimp tacos was one TINY taco..... the shrimp was salty and overall not good. The chicken quesadillas, small in size and did not fill anyone who ate the entire "meal". Also, I really believe they gave me pork and not chicken, it tasted like pork, smelled like pork and I don't eat pork and have the biggest stomachache that I'm about to POOP MYSELF since I ate that "chicken" quesadilla. We get the bill, almost $150 for some snacks that we didn't even enjoy! The only reason we ate our food is because we were starving and didn't have enough time on our lunch break to choose another restaurant. ALSO, the waitress came at the end of the meal and asked us how everything was. We all stayed silent but one of my coworkers said, "I mean I wouldn't ever come here again.", the waitress ignored her, did not even ask what the issue with our meals was and started clearing our table. I had heard so many rave reviews and after trying Cosme I was excited to try Atla too. Went for Sunday Brunch with a friend, we had a reservation but were 15 minutes late, luckily the table we had reserved was still being used. We were seated 20 minutes later. We had the bread basket to start, the concha was my favorite, super fluffy and tasted like orange blossom. Honestly the bread basket is the only reason I would go back. My Friend had a Paloma and I had the horchata latte, both were just fine. We ordered chilaquiles, I got the verde and she got the rojos. In all honesty the flavors were really forgettable, as someone from Mexico the flavors lacked seasoning. They both needed salt and were just fine. We didn't order anything else because we were just so underwhelmed by the food, the ambiance was pretty chill. The hits and misses kinda balance themselves out. If you've been to Mexico City - Roma / La Condesa in particular - you'll recognize this place. It's the kind of hip, urban place so common there, with an interesting menu, an excellent cocktail list, and all the mezcal varieties that you could possibly want. The freshest most delicious quacamole with cilantro and other herbs- we licked the bowl clean. Brussels sprouts tacos finely chopped deliciousness , Pork al pastor gringa (made with pineapple butter!!) was spectacular, even salad greens with avocado, radish, red onion, cucumber, herbs, was special. Overall a 3.5/5 for food but bumped up .5 because of the general ambiance and service at the restaurant. We walked in at 7:00pm on a Tuesday night to a packed restaurant but were lucky enough to snag a table. Low lighting, good for a date or group dinner. Completely packed (every table taken on a Tuesday), which says a lot. FOOD: we ordered the guacamole, the fish a la talia (basically well seasoned, cooked fish served with soft tortillas and herbs) and the cecina (really thinly pounded beef with grilled pepper and guacamole and tortilla). For a side we had the mushrooms and dessert were churros. The guacamole was solid but nothing to write home about. The fish was really tasty, perfectly seasoned and cooked. The cecina was also really well seasoned and flavorful - worked really well to make tacos out of, though tough-ish to chew in some places. The mushrooms were by far the best dish. I ate the entire bowl - they were super well flavored and cooked. Deedinitely recommend you order with whatever main course ! SERVICE: the restaurant was super busy but we never waited too long to get a servers attention or our food. VERDICT: i would definitely come by again if in the area. I didn't want to believe the reviews about the service and was excited to try another of Enrique Olvera's restaurants.. what can go wrong, it's NY? Well, disappointedly so the service was not only bad it was terrible. Getting seated and placing our order was fast and easy. But it all went downhill after this. Our server did not check in on us and we had to flag him down. Even then, after requesting salsa for our Barbacoa tacos twice he kept ignoring us. When we asked for it a third time, he said the kitchen was getting it ready. We never got it. You can't eat barbacoa tacos without a good salsa. One of the best parts of barbacoa is the hot consome, unfortunately they served us cold consome. The fat in the consome was already solidifying when they served it to us. A friend recommended this place as we were staying in Greenwich village. It was a great option for us as it was walking distance from our hotel and there were plenty of vegetarian items on the menu for my husband. Atla is a tiny, modern space and it was bustling on a Tuesday night. We had super attentive service and our food was brought out in a timely manner. We started with the guacamole and there was the perfect ratio of tostada to guacamole. We shared the cheese quesadillas with mushroom and there was a crema sauce to put over it (it was my least favorite of what we ate) We also shared the flaxseed chilaquiles rojas and it was a large portion. The chilaquiles were firmer than other chilaquiles I have had so we ate them more as chips with our fingers. The outstanding dish of the night for us was the rice and sweet corn. It was a delicious sweet and moist rice almost like and Arborio rice and it had great flavor. I also LOVED the guava Aqua Fresca and I drank two of them. This was a good meal in a cool vibe setting. Drawbacks were that it was really loud in there, so not a place to have a quiet conversation and the quesadillas and chilaquiles were good but not the best I have had. I hadn't been in a while but things are still as good as I remember. The guacamole is still spectacular. This was a solid restaurant. It had a young and fun vibe and they have built quite the elaborate outdoor dining setup. They had some outdoor seating that was not enclosed and other outdoor seating that was 99% enclosed (basically indoor dining) with nice heaters and plexiglass dividers. The service was a bit sparse, but nonetheless, our waiter was really friendly. As for the food, the guac was good but the chips were a little bit bland. The ceviche was tasty but almost a little too acidic with the combination of the citrus and passion fruit. The churros were light and airy and delicious. They came with a sauce that was similar to dulce de leche. I also tried the kumquat, jasmine, and black sesame aguas frescas which had an interesting flavor which I personally thought had a little too strong of a jasmine taste. It's more of an indoor enclosure instead of outdoor which is a little concerning. The guacamole was very good. Not enough chips for us so we ordered more. Had lunch here during Fleet Week NYC. I didnt have a reservation so I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by the bartenders who had amazing customer service and recommendations for food and drinks. I ordered a mezcal negroni, shrimp Taco and the brisket taco. The bartender comped me a carrot salad, which I never would have ordered but it was amazingly delicious. The tacos were both incredible, expertly sourced masa was used for the in-house Tortillas and definitely elevated them both. The brisket taco was my by far my favorite. To finish off the meal I was treated to mescal a tour of the kitchen and some guacamole & chips to go. Amazing service, amazing food and amazing atmosphere made for one unforgettable experience. This is my second review of this place. My first review was 3/5. I had noted that everything we had was quite mediocre except for one dish - the arctic char ceviche which I thought was excellent and would return to get. So I came back just to have this and surprise, it is no longer on the menu, and it is replaced by a striped bass ceviche. It was not nearly as good as the arctic char version. The sea bass is less fatty and flavorful than the arctic char. Sea bass is a tender but neutral-tasting fish that is popular with french tasting menus for highlighting very buttery sauces; I think it is less effective than the arctic char for ceviche. I'm aware that sea bass is a typical fish used for ceviches but I just think that they ruined a great thing by removing the arctic char from the menu. I had also come back forgetting how bad the margaritas were. $18 for a margarita that's highlighted as their signature cocktails so I assumed they were good, but they were mediocre and one-dimensional in flavor, and I feel like they add a lot of liquor to hide that. Food and drink aside, the ambiance of the restaurant is quite good, especially during the daytime. The restaurant has glass walls so it gets a lot of rays of sunlight that make the inside very sunny and pleasant. read more

Made a reservation here for a Friday night. We sat in the covered area outside which is lovely, especially when the weather is nice. Overall the experience and food were great, as was the service. Their quesadillas are incredible, and the roasted chicken I had was cooked really well. The drinks were a little disappointing, especially since they go for $18. My boyfriend got a pina colada which was kind of watery and not very strong. I had a Paloma which was pretty good though. I was about to order churros for dessert when our waiter suggested the chocolate cake. He sold me on it so i called an audible and ordered that instead. Unfortunately, it was kind of dry, and I wasn't crazy about it. I didn't find out until afterwards that it's a new dessert. Next time I'm getting the churros!! read more

Interesting for brunch. I liked the concept of a more casual Enrique Olvera place. I like that thee articles say they want to have a lot of vegetables on the menu, with a lot of life. It's a bit high on the price point for what it is- $14 for chilaquiles, and a whopping $19 for a bowl of herb guacamole. Service was a bit on the slow side. There is a spattering of menu items that you'll look up on your phone and wonder how the chef will interpret these dishes: tlacoyo, pambazo, ayocote hummus, enfrijoladas. I love how many traditional Mexican items are offered, and I'd want to come back and try them. The enfriojoladas turned out to be bitter, almost mole-like. I thought the chilaquiles with chicken and a poached egg was an excellent dish- the add ons make the dish even more expensive. I ordered the chicken enchiladas - divorciadas, which just means half red and half green sauce. The red sauce is super spicy so it was nice to have a balance there. The food is generally drowning in the sauce, so fortunately the sauce is pretty good on its own. The table next to us asked for an extra stack of tortillas to sop up the sauce, and I thought that was a pretty grand idea. The aguas frescas are delicious, but our watermelon juice was super tiny. Toasted sesame horchata was almost smoky in flavor. Overall, interesting ambience and concept. The food was solid, and I'd come back for a second try. read more

Lunch at Atla was incredible, and I already cannot wait to return. I'm a huge Enrique Olvera fan and have loved my memorable meals at Cosme in NYC and Pujol in Mexico City. Atla is now a more casual (although still pricey) option to eat his delicious and unique Mexican food. Everything on the menu sounded so good that it was truly hard to decide on what to order. We started with the herb guacamole - WOW! Simple but divine. Next came the Arctic char tostada which was my favorite morsel of the whole meal. I could have eaten three more! The fish was so perfectly fresh and buttery and the accompaniments were unique. The ceviche was also lovely, as was the very unusual nopal (cactus) salad. Next time I will try the more substantial meat dishes. Oh and dessert!!! I love strange desserts so I ordered the savory corn tamal, which was very funky topped with cheese curds. However, I was totally into it. My lunch companion was not, however, so this dish might be only for the very daring. We also savored a concha, which was a nice way to end the meal. I'll also add that it just so happened that the health inspection took place right as we were dining. That meant that we waited a very long time for our food (our lunch ended up lasting three hours). However, the staff at Atla handled this very professionally, periodically updating us on what was happening in the kitchen and also giving us two free glasses of wine. Thank you, Atla! I tried all the tacos - the suadero taco, the cauliflower Al Pastor, and the shrimp taco. They were all great. I wasn't blown away by the tortilla though, which I was surprised about. They were pretty expensive, even for fancy tacos. Suadero was 15 for 2, cauliflower was 14 and shrimp 15. That's steep even for NYC. Churro was great. Guacamole was good. What an awful service. We had an early dinner reservation at 6:15 for 5 people. Due to some last minute change it ended up being 6 people. They would refuse to seat us and eventually gave us a table outside in 96f. We even told them that we could free up a table by 8 and that we are happy to pull another chair on our table of 5. Born & raised in Mexico City (same city as the head chef), I've tried high, middle, local market and home Mexican cuisine. I am sorry but you aren't going to pass those $17 chilaquiles as legit to me. It was pre-fried tortilla with below average green salsa. For good chilaquiles...particularly the ones that cost $17, sauté the tortilla at the moment. Heck, I would even claim that the salsa was taken out of an Herdez can. 100% below average. At least add chicken to it. I get the whole new wave Mexican food but if you call something chilaquiles give me chilaquiles (sesame seed and all, even if it isn't mole it's ok with me). $70 later, I would NOT recommend it. Given Daniela Soto-Innes just won 2019 Female Chef of the Year, and Cosme was a pretty good gastronomic experience, I was disappointed with Atla. First of all, the restaurant wasn't really well ventilated. On a 30+ degree day, sitting almost shoulder-to-shoulder with the next table on this uncomfortable thick fabric without good ventilation and pot lights intensely shining over you (not sure why when there are windows all around, and it is mid-day) is not so comfortable. The frozen margaritas were great, but when we asked for a second, the blender was broken. It happens, but just wanted to point that out for the disappointment factor. We ordered the guac, cauliflower tacos, tamal, chilaquiles and churros. The avocado in the guac was barely smashed, and it came with this ridiculously huge chip that wasn't so visually stunning (as I think it was intended to be). The tacos, tamal and chilaquiles were just all missing something flavour-wise. The tacos actually tasted overwhelmingly of pineapple. And the chocolate with the churros (which were good) was too bitter. The portions were not that great for the price charged. The service was fine - our waiter was pretty nice, and the food came out at a decent pace. Finally, I'm just never a big fan of places that have one unisex bathroom stall for the whole restaurant. The new more casual all day spot from the Cosme team is just as great. Serving breakfast starting at 9 AM, they give you a menu and a pencil to fill out what you want. The items range from small and healthy to a big bowl of spicy Flax Seed Chilaquiles ($14). Do not miss the Concha ($5), a large, really fluffy bread topped with cookie crust that almost dissolves in your mouth. It almost tastes like the lightest doughnut you've ever had from all the sugar, but is not actually fried and makes for an amazing bite. The Split Pea Tlacoyos are also excellent ($9). I had a really big breakfast. It's a very bright restaurant, on the corner of Great Jones and Lafayette with floor to ceiling windows. I have been hounded by so many friends that rave about this place and, while I really wanted to share in their passion, I thought my experience was only okay. Highlights of the meal included the arctic char tartare and the spicy margarita we shared. Snagged a last minute indoor reservation on a Saturday here. Definitely a high energy soho scene place to go. I felt the menu was a little small actually, but they had some interesting stuff on it. We got the guac, salsas, flatiron steak and quesadilla and churros. All very good, and I was impressed with the steak cut. Everything came very hot and fresh. Churros were also awesome. I really want to like this place, I really do. The ambiance is fantastic, but there were a few things about the food and service that left us throughout dinner scratching our heads. We got the guacamole which was excellent, but for a huge bowl, they only gave us two big round chips. We asked our server if we could get more, and they said no, the kitchen was closed. Okay.... So they couldn't get chips out of a Tupperware somewhere? After while, they circled back to us with a bag of chips, but a different type from the ones that were originally served with the guacamole, and they were a bit stale. The shrimp tacos came out after and it was a little cold and bland. Also, one of our guests specifically requested no cilantro on the shrimp tacos. It came back heavy with it. One of our other friends ordered the chicken tortilla soup and it was bland too, and in desperate need of salt. The fish milanese was the highlight of our meal, but that's pretty much it. When we inquired about the churros for dessert, they came back and said they couldn't make it because their machine broke. The hostess was nice enough to compensate with a little mezcal and chocolate to finish the meal. Mezcal was okay, chocolate was a nice touch. I'm not a big wine drinker, but fyi - our friends said their wine list needed a lot of work. We spent $400 on our meal including drinks for four people. The sauce was good 1/2 lb beef birria- (2/5) it wasn't BAD, but definitely wouldn't order again. The meat is really bland?? Wasn't expecting that. I have gotten excellent birria from a taco truck in Williamsburg. Just go there if you want birria and skip this. More than enough food for 2 people tho. Churros - (4/5) hard to mess up churros. These were good but nothing special really. Mezcal margaritas - (3/5) these were good but nothinggg special. Way over priced for how regular of a margarita it is. Just go to Pujol in CDMX if you have the chance if you want to really experience Enrique Olvera. It wil blow your mind. Idk whats going on with this place but it's pretty underwhelming. The food isn't bad but it's a bit expensive for what it is and I had much higher expectations. I do want to come back to try some other menu items tho. read more

The guac is to die for and the brussels sprout taco was delicious as as the quesadilla. The waiters have that special grace that I've found only in central American countries...I just loved Atla.
