I love athleta for so many reasons and levels, as a trainer I wear my clothes to DEATH and athleta leggings and sports bras stand the test of time and durability for me. Their B corporation status and fulfillment of realistic women's fitness portrayal in their advertisements hooks me even more. I recently went in needing clothes for a photo shoot and the sales associate (Lauren? Leah? I have an extremely strict dress code for work, so I came to this Athleta hoping to find a good quality pair of pants that would meet the mark. First of all, I have to say that this store is super well stocked! During a time where a lot of stores are running low on inventory, I didn't expect to find my size in so many options. The staff is also extremely friendly; I had collected a lot of items to try on, and a sales associate noticed immediately and took them off my hands and set up a fitting room for me. Additionally, I was agonizing over if a certain pair of pants would meet the strict dress code (non-athletic, non-form fitting, enough pockets to hold passport and keys, can only be black, red, purple or brown), I had not one, but TWO sales associates suggest items for me and go back into the store to get them for me! In addition, they mentioned that they eliminated the shipping costs since their inventory had been so low during covid (which I did not really experience). I know Athleta can be really expensive, but they have a huge sale selection! And ultimately, I wanted to purchase a good quality pair of pants I could and would still wear even if I left my job, so I am glad Athleta had such a good selection, and I didn't have to settle for ugly cargo pants . read more

I was in the area today and wanted to stop by to pick up some leggings. When I stepped into the store, the blonde sales associate nearby greeted me. She was nice, or so I thought. I dug through a pile of the 7/8 Saturation leggings trying to find a size L in black but no luck. I asked that same SA and she checked on her phone for inventory, but she tells me they're all out. Then I continued to dig through another pile of black Elations leggings, all the while she's just standing there being useless and not offering to help me look. I once again, ask her to check and she says to me "no, we don't have a L in black. You can try a medium". What the hell? I told her no, that's not going to fit. I walked away to pay for my other item and watched her be extra friendly to all the other customers that were all White. So disrespectful. This location sucks. Even the cashier who rang me up was so cold. I don't get it? Am I being racially profiled? Did I not dress up well enough to deserve to be treated like everyone else in the store? This Athleta store is a mixed bag. I love Athleta clothing, and this store is conveniently located and nicely designed and has a good selection. They usually are very good about taking returns on items I have purchased online. However, I have had some bad experiences with the sales staff there recently, especially an older woman who appears to be the manager. To some degree these bad experiences are probably stemming from corporate level policies that make it difficult for the brick and mortar stores to make money when they have to compete with the Athleta online store, so it is not really their fault I suppose. Yesterday I went in to try on a variety of new styles. There are a variety of holiday sales going on now, but I don't want to buy and return a million things to find the right size and style. I am 5'2" so I almost always need to wear petites, so I expected to have to order online after I tried things on in the store because they never carry petites. At first the sales staff were very nice to me, maybe in part because I am the white middle aged customer who is more likely to spend a lot. But I am also a Gen X'r who is an expert at online shopping. Once they saw me looking on my phone to see if a style I liked came in petites after I tried things on, their mood sure changed. First the manager lady told me that she could look it up faster on her phone that I could on mine to see if they came in petites. When I actually pulled it up faster on mine, she told me that even though the Athleta website said they had them in stock, that they really didn't according to her information. They she said I should get the regular length ones they had in the store hemmed by them for free instead. From what I can tell, she was probably lying to me. I placed an order for the petites online, and they are now on their way. Interestingly, once I went into the REI next door to look at their Athleta selection on sale, the items I had been looking online at on the Athleta website suddenly were available with a further 30% off promo discount! I wonder if the location detection capacity on the phone was being used by Atheleta to suppress the extra discount promo from popping up while I was in the brick and mortar store. I also noticed that my cell reception seemed much better in other stores in the same mall, so maybe they ever try to block that in the dressing rooms at Athleta so we can't shop online while at the store? I know this sounds a touch paranoid at first, but my hubby works in retail tech so I know they have the capacity to do things like this. So of course I cancelled the first online order and placed a second one for the same items. So in the end I even spent much less than I would have had I bought them in store, and with the money I saved I bought more items I wanted that were deeply on sale on the website. I also bought some things on the REI website that were on sale there that were even less than at the Athleta website, and half the price they were in the Athleta store. I did buy a tank top at the physical store because I felt bad for the mess I made with trying on a million things in the dressing room, even thought I could have purchased it online for considerably less. Their previously friendly attitude sure changed once they saw I was not going to be a big sale, and the older manager woman was on the verge of being downright mean. I do feel for the younger women and women of color not getting respect on help at this store, but being in their target demographic was a bad experience too. They whole experience started as a fun holiday time shopping experience, but ended up giving me a bad feeling. I should not have people lying to me to make a sale at a clothing retail store. This should not have been an adversarial experience. At the corporate level Athleta needs to subsidize these brick and mortar stores because they do increase sales on their online store and reduce the return rate of online sales, and not expect them to compete with the online store. They also need make sure the store has the same prices as the website. Why should I pay 30 to 50% more for the exact same items? There needs to be another way to cover the store overhead and sales person salaries, and I really don't like having to deal with a pressured sale from an angry woman who is probably lying to me over a pair of sweat pants. So go ahead and go to this store to try on the yummy products, but realize the sales staff may not really be there to help you and have your phone at the ready to order other colors and sizes for yourself. read more

The sales associates at this store are the worst ! So much snobbery and definitely favoritism to older white affluent shoppers. I was bending over a rack to look for my size in an item and an older sales associate almost barreled me over to get to the older Caucasian woman who stepped out of the fitting room. Sales commission aggression is despicable and extremely tasteless. This isn't Nordstrom so calm down you sell athletic wear. I want to be honest up front: I'm an ex-Athleta employee (headquarters, not the store). However, I no longer receive a discount and I STILL shop at Athleta due to their quality, size inclusivity, and their return policy. Obviously as an employee who got a discount I loved the clothes. But even now paying full price I still think the quality is 100% worth it. You can even return ANYTHING, and ANYTIME. Out of all the Athleta stuff I've ever purchased I've never had to return something due to quality-I've been wearing the same workout pants multiple times a week for going on 5+ years and they still look and feel great. I am a self-proclaimed Athleta addict. By this I mean I know EVERYTHING about the brand. In fact, most Athleta stores I walk in to, I know the merchandise better than most of the sales associates (which is fine). I have an Athleta card, and I browse the website every day (no joke). Every workout item I own is Athleta, and I am more than happy to recommend the brand to my friends and family. Most Athleta stores I have been to are incredibly welcoming! Well, FORGET about it here. I reserved an item online and when I came in to pick it up, I had to wait 5+ minutes to get my item in my hands. In addition, the process into getting the item into my hands was painful. The women were unbelievably rude, demeaning, and ruthless. One of the younger sales associates used a tone that made me want to cry, which was unbelievable on her part, as I literally walked into the store wearing all Athleta clothing. What screams wanting to spend money more than that?! Long story short, if you're looking for an awesome Athleta store that lives up to its potential, head into the city because women are a heck of a lot nicer and more responsive there. I came in here yesterday to buy a warm-up outfit for a lady friend. Since I know absolutely nothing about women's clothing, I was hoping to get the assistance of a staff member. I must have been there for almost 15 minutes and not once did anyone say hello or ask if I needed help. It was kind of mind boggling since there were like 4 employees working the floor and only two customers in the entire shop. I felt like I was wearing an invisibility cloak, or like that scene in "Pretty Woman" where the mean ladies refuse to assist Julia Roberts. I finally just gave up and walked out. Love this store! I have to admit I used to be a Lulu only kind of girl. But since discovering that Athleta has revamped their leggings, I've been hooked! The powervita fabric is Ah-mazing! Soft, but holds you in and it's great for any time of year. I also love the variety in sizes, tops and athleisure clothing. Fun colors, fabrics and silhouettes. Staff is very friendly and helpful! I have worn Athleta clothing for years and years. Today I went down to Marin to shop the store, rather than the catalog. Yes, the ladies are very attentive, but not overly pushy. The Manager was very pleasant, and knew the answers to my questions which surrounded the textile materials that make up the new "rib" line and the fact that snags seem to happen frequently. I purchased several items and would recommend visiting Corte Madera to see all the wonderful garments that Athleta has to offer this season. The ladies are very attentive to their customers, but they do let you look without pushing too much. I love Athleta, but recently had increasingly bad experiences at this store. The sales associates were so eager to "help" you that I felt hunted down. Not only was I approached by at least 5 different associates that tried to "help" me, but some of them approached several times despite me telling them politely that I was just browsing and not interested in "finding the right size" of the item I was looking at. I basically had to flee the store. This has happened before at this location, but never to this extend. I wonder if the associates are paid a success bonus and a little too eager for that. I am sad, because I would have liked spending more time in the store, to see what might make it on my shopping list. I love checking out Athleta's sales online, but what is it with their brick-and-mortar stores not having a sale rack? Or did I miss it? Do they hide it way in the back like the Anthropologie and Banana Republic stores do? Is it an image thing? (like they don't want to be considered a store that you can ever get a discount at?) This store is now open at the Town Center in Corte Madera, with the Strawberry Village Store having closed its doors. Worst shopping experience ever. First let's clear up that I do like their clothing, like not love. This review isn't based on the clothes they sell it's based on the customer service and the store itself. I had grabbed a few things off the very overly crowded, packed so tight rack that you can barely pull an item from the rack to check the size. I was carrying my items that I wanted to try on around when a nice sales lady asked me if I'd like her to take my things and put them in a room. I was happy to let her take them off my hands so I could use both hands continue to try and rummage through the overly tight packed rack. After having no luck finding my size and being completely frustrated I decided to just go try on my items the very nice sales lady took from me 5 mini earlier. When I got back to the fitting room they had misplaced or returned my items to the main shopping floor. Seriously? This has happened to me once before when I shopped at this location. Well, my very nice salesperson that originally took my things in the back said she remembered my items and would go grab replacements for me to try on. When the clothIng items were finally brought back to me theY were not only the wring items but they were the wrong sizes. I've long been a fan of Athleta since their early days, which is why I was so upset when I went in during the December shopping season and was treated very poorly by a sales associate. The experience left me feeling confused and angry, and undervalued as a loyal customer. A few weeks later I returned to the store to share my experience with another store associate and I was treated with compassion and dignity. Sarah, the store associate more than made up for my poor experience, and even referred me to the store manager, Tera, who made sure I felt valued, supported and taken care of. Before I left the store both Sarah and Tera sent me off with a hug. I walked in not even knowing these people and left with a smile. Ok, it's a rainy Tuesday at 11:00. It's not like it was busy. I liked the pants on the mannequin and couldn't find them on the racks. I asked for help. The lady at the register very busily tried to hand me off to two other women who were also very busy being busy. No one knew where the pants were. Someone urgently asked me what size. The tone was like I was wasting her time. I said I wasn't sure - I need to try them on - probably a 4 or a 6. She thrusted a black 6 at me - again, I wanted blue. I said never mind and left. No one objected. If you had provided a modicum of quality customer service, I would have almost certainly spent at least a couple hundred dollars there today. Athleta. Your clothes are cute. There wasn't one rude sales person. There were three, each very clearly trying to hoist me off on the other. The reason to go to a bricks and mortar shop is to try clothes on and get help. Athleta Town Center at Corte Madera has it all, personalized customer service, an excellent product, and free yoga classes on Sunday mornings! Stephanie Phelan and Sara are great team leaders. The Yoga Garden in San Anselmo was chosen to be their studio of the month for February. Being the owner of the studio, I was not sure what to expect. All my teachers were treated with kindness and the highest of integrity and support. They loved teaching there and we look forward to coming back again. Please sell swimsuits year round. Women swim year round so should be able to buy a swim suit year round. It is really frustrating that my husband has no problem finding a swimsuit yet for women, you have about a two month window to shop for swimsuits in a store where you can try them on. read more
